One reason the # of Afghans is so high is that people are bringing their entire extended families, regardless of whether anyone meaningfully aided war effort or faces a particularized threat. Perception of an unrestricted policy surely helped drive oversized crowds to airport.

Asshole.

You’re a big part of the reason good deserving people who actually fought for their country and ours never got their SIVs and are hiding from the Taliban with little chance to escape.

I personally have two dozen Afghans stuck there. I’d happily trade you for any one of them.

I was once a statewide elected official who aspired to be a United States Senator. It’s no longer what I want, but there was a time when I wanted it badly.

I was even suffering from an undiagnosed, untreated psychological disorder at the time.

Yet I never wanted it this badly.

Some of the responses:

Which IMHO it is worse. He’s willing to put people in harm’s way not because he believes something that is false or harmful but because it is the way to win an election. Willing to weaponize this rhetoric for his own gain. Sick

The voters he and other Rs are courting are fed a constant stream of propaganda that is becoming more and more unhinged. Anger that’s been stoked over masks/vaccines/basic public health are rising and will spill over into violence. This shit is wildly irresponsible.

He’s got to out-pander Greitens if he wants to get into the Senate.

Do the ones who know better actually feel no sense of responsibility for highly-likely serious and deadly consequences of their purposeful misdirection?

No. Ths has been another edition of short answers to simple questions.

The fact that he will say this crap and it will actually EARN him votes is then not only dangerous and disgusting, but disingenuous. A little honesty, integrity and love for one’s family and neighbors goes a long way. At least it should.

That’s the scary part. These performative culture war outbursts are getting people killed.

intellectual dishonesty is disqualifying.

And that’s what makes it worse.

And on and on…

We defeated Al Qaeda.

It was mission creep to attempt to build a western style government.

We improved many lives during these 20 years.

The Taliban was always going to wait us out.

We succeeded. We also failed.

I feel pride, anger, and sadness.

All of it can be true.

Patriotism isn’t about making everyone stand and salute the flag.

Patriotism is about making this a country where everyone wants to.
8:51 AM · Sep 24, 2017

Today, from the third senator from Virginia:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
Replace the lies with the truth! That’s what my Love America Act is all about. No more critical race theory in schools. Teach our kids the truth of who we are – a nation of liberators
[….]
6:33 PM · Jul 22, 2021

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
The Left wants to teach our kids that America is systemically racist. That’s false and it’s meant to divide. It’s time to replace lies with the truth! America is a great nation of good people – and our kids should be proud of that. That’s why I’m introducing the Love America Act
6:20 PM · Jul 22, 2021

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
It will require schools that get federal tax dollars to teach kids the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution & Bill of Rights, and the Pledge. These texts affirm the truths that unite us, and make us a great people.
6:20 PM · Jul 22, 2021

The first page of the United States Constitution [1787] – National Archives – detail

Uh, the Pledge of Allegiance isn’t a founding document. By the way, which version?

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
No more critical race theory. No more hate. Let’s teach our kids what unites us as Americans – what we love together. Let’s teach them the truth
6:20 PM · Jul 22, 2021

As usual, there is much hilarity in the responses:

“And what unites as Americans in my world is complaining about Simon & Schuster canceling my book deal…”

Hawley when Jim Crow laws were enacted and when they had separate black and White dining areas was that racist?

Critical Race Theory is not being taught in schools!!!! It’s not!

Factual real history is taught and should be honored.

In that history are some things we cannot be proud of. But that doesn’t make them less important to look at and understand.

No whitewashing the facts.

Josh Hawley (r) doesn’t care.

Critical Race Theory is not taught in A SINGLE SCHOOL IN AMERICA. It’s presented to college students who have the ability to discern the information. Totally misleading…. AS USUAL

Putting a band aid and blinders on do not help solve our problems and unite us. Being honest and teaching our history, not a whitewashed history, and how we got to where we are is how we heal and grow together.

Ignoring prejudice won’t eliminate it. Ignoring hate doesn’t solve our problems. Turning our backs on issues is a plan for failure. Teach the truth. We can teach our children to face reality and they can still love our country

Wtf Josh, should we not teach children about the truth that there was slavery.. that the QOP has been hate mongering all through the last 2 years… just teach the truth good and bad..people can’t stick their heads in the sand

Like what you did on 1/6?

Sounds great. Let’s teach them the truth. All truth. Even the painful truth. Denying the racism that’s woven into our society isn’t teaching truth. Teach the truth. Allow our children to form opinions based on true history, not the whitewashed version you propose.

As a model for what you want schools to teach, can you begin with the history of how Missouri became a state?

What would you teach? Would you teach that Missouri’s first constitution prohibited the entry of free Negros and mulattoes?

“No more hate”… Does that mean LGBT are in or out? Hard to tell with you.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Why are you so against education & critical thinking? It’s not about division (unlike your rhetoric) it’s about taking an honest look at where we started, and trying our best to move forward.

Teaching history is not hate.

First. Critical race theory isn’t taught at our schools. Second, you can’t just pick and choose the history taught. History can be both bad and good. Our kids can take it!

Critical race theory isn’t taught in schools. It is usually taught as an elective in High level college classes. Stop fear mongering.

Dude who helped sell the big lie that the election was stolen and then incited a violent insurrection in an attempt to overthrow the government says what about the truth?

He lives in Virginia.

Hey man just a bit of feedback. You’re a fascist

Actually, a Fascist pig.

We could teach this to the indigenous people of America but we were united with so much love in the 19th century that we killed them all.

So we can’t teach US history, the good and the bad?

This isn’t even about teaching racism is it? You just want to close public schools and get money to your church schools. What are you so worried about? your kids don’t go to public schools.

Cite a primary source that substantiates your position on CRT. And please explain your reasoning.

“Faux News channel, fascist groupies” – protest sign, circa 2003- 2004.

None of what you listed is critical race theory, son. It’s history.

So a guy who should be in jail for insurrection is introducing a bill to teach what is already taught because a manufactured outrage like Chris Rufo’s Critical Race Theory stunt is dividing people, causing FOX News viewers to believe teaching American history is bad. Got it.

You don’t know the first thing about the truth.

Some of us don’t love insurrections.

You should learn the definitions of the words and phrases you use.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

The really frightening ones use it as a blueprint.

You know full well CRT is only taught in colleges, but far be it from you to be honest with your constituents.

You are the opposite of a uniter.

I thought you said that you want to teach kids the truth. Truth is, the US used slave labor to build. Then even after freeing the slaves, the government systematically denied them basic human dignity and rights. You want to teach fairy tales.

So the way to love America is to restrict criticism of it? #fascism

If you can’t handle the facts of slavery and racism in the United States, you’re not concerned with the truth. You’re only concerned with propaganda.

This is the most pie in the sky bullshit I’ve ever heard.

It’s in his nature.

You’re never going to be president, Josh.

There’s already a really low bar. Donald Trump. I rest my case.

Pigeonholing all public schools to say the pledge? Bullshit.

Actually, it is: WEST VIRGINIA STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION ET AL. v. BARNETTE ET AL., 319 U.S. 624 (1943).

You take civics teaching which is already being done and legal theory and confuse people by misleading through lying about what is actually happening. Insurrectionist continue to foment for the over through of the constitution. You should resign.

Mr. Rone, if your grandkids are handling your tweets, you ought to inform them this type of response (“Who cares”) is petty and rude. At a minimum, whoever is tweeting these zingers should at least use punctuation. I’m left wondering who is “Who” or is it WHO?

Prior to his legislative duties, Rep. Rone was an accounts manager for FMC Corporation, Agriculture Solutions. He also spent time as a farmer and as a teacher for Matthews and Portageville High Schools. Rep. Rone has served as Mayor of Portageville Missouri and New Madrid County Public Administrator. Rep. Rone served in the Missouri National Guard.

Rep. Rone is a 1963 graduate from Portageville High School. He received his BS degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1968.
