Chris Koster’s (D) 2016 gubernatorial campaign filed its 8 Day Before General Election campaign finance report with the Missouri Ethics Commission today:

C031159: Koster For Missouri
Committee Type: Candidate
Po Box 440173
St Louis Mo 63144
Party Affiliation: Democrat
Established Date: 08/12/2003
[….]
Information Reported On: 2016 – 8 Day Before General Election-11/8/2016
Beginning Money on Hand $6,578,737.97
Monetary Receipts + $4,484,383.14
Monetary Expenditures – $7,920,845.15
Contributions Made – $995,000.00
Other Disbursements – $0.00
Subtotal ($4,431,462.01)
Ending Money On Hand $2,147,275.96

[emphasis added]

That’s the money raised and expenditures from October 1st to October 27th.

This includes $2,000,000.00 from the Democratic Governors Association. Organized labor (various unions) contributed in amounts ranging from $250,000.00 (teachers) to $100,000.00 to $50,000.00. There appears to be a significantly larger number of contributions (from in state, and in smaller amounts) than the republican candidate.

And yes, there’s a lot [pdf] of spending on media.

Total receipts for this election?: $27,550,445.44

Eric Greitens’ (r) 2016 gubernatorial campaign filed its 8 Day Before General Election campaign finance report with the Missouri Ethics Commission today:

C151053: Greitens For Missouri
Committee Type: Candidate
Party Affiliation: Republican
4579 Laclede Ave #138
St Louis Mo 63108
Established Date: 02/24/2015
[….]
Information Reported On: 2016 – 8 Day Before General Election-11/8/2016
Beginning Money on Hand $2,716,601.34
Monetary Receipts + $9,394,708.00
Monetary Expenditures – $8,588,466.22
Contributions Made – $455,000.00
Other Disbursements – $59,164.19
Subtotal $292,077.59
Ending Money On Hand $3,008,678.93

[emphasis added]

That’s the money raised and expenditures from October 1st to October 27th.

$6,500,000.00 (up to and including October 27th) of that $9,394,708.00 came from one entity, a PAC. The same PAC contributed another $1,500,000.00 on October 29th, past the reporting deadline. We have no idea who wrote the checks to raise money for the contributing PAC. Other contributions include a different PAC contribution of $500,000.00, a personal contribution of $500,000.00, a personal contribution of $250,000.00 (from out of state) and a few other contributions in the $100,000.00 to $50,000.00 range.

That’s not particularly grassrootsie, but it does pay [pdf] for saturating the airwaves with banal ads.

Oh, and the total receipts for this election?: $17,847,731.00

$295,000.00 in one day, right before the election. For a state senate seat. For a backbencher:

That’s a significant amount of money to promote a backbencher in the House with no significant legislative achievements (well, okay he thinks he does) to the Senate.

Update:

The propping up continues. Today:

C111215 10/30/2016 FRIENDS OF CALEB ROWDEN Missouri Senate Campaign Committee PO Box 754 Jefferson City MO 65102 10/28/2016 $300,000.00

Nothing exceeds like excess.
