Tell that to the parents missing work at home this week in Missouri because schools are closed due to high case numbers.
Eric, we are not free to drive drunk, run red lights & stop signs, because those “freedoms” have negative effects on ourselves & others.
We are in a pandemic w/a way out, the mitigations were not there before, why would they remain after? We need to fight COVID, not each other!
It wasn’t ineffective until you started messing with the system. Our kids were in school more & even had fewer missed days due to flu and rotoviruses when the strategies were in full play. Illegal, nope, no more illegal than any school dress code. Wrong, again nope. Cite a source
“Hardworking Missourians have invested a lot in their communities & kids’ schools. We need to protect these investments & make sure they’re not wasted in a fight against frivolous lawsuits brought by someone always running for higher office.”
Your tweet is misleading. As per CDC, masks have been shown to be effective. Indeed, they are not 100% effective, but they do offer some protection.
“Calvary?” Do you realize you’ve used a religious term to describe your attack against Covid mitigation? It makes me wonder about your true motivations. [….]
We dont have to wonder. Purely political.
Stop using our tax dollars for these lawsuits! Stop fighting FOR covid! JUST STOP!
1. It is cavalry.
2. 9 days back in school and my middle school had over 10% positive Covid cases without masks. The close contacts outnumbered the student body.
3. Get a dictionary and go donate blood. That might actually help someone.
It is not ineffective. It’s imperfect, yes, but masking reduces the spread of disease significantly (and not just COVID, either). You are lying to people, and you’re not helping anyone but yourself.
calvary however, refers to “an open air depiction of the crucifixion,” or more recently “an experience of intense suffering.”
Eric, I’ve heard meditation and anti- anxiety drugs can help people who struggle with hysteria.
Maybe worth a shot.
Our Hospitals are struggling our schools are struggling we need help. Listen to what the hospitals are saying. Too many people are dying, every life is important. Mask help, help the schools and hospitals by stopping this maddness. This is beyond evil what you are doing!
You just want to be wrong about everything, don’t you?
No, no, and no. It is effective according to experts (you are not one). It is legal according to experts (you are not one). And it is right according to people who have a soul (you do not).
Not ineffective according to the data
Not illegal and you should know better
Not wrong when we are trying to protect our communities as a whole during a pandemic
This pandering to uninformed voters is disgusting
Sir, my kids’ school district had 35 cases as the highest rate with a mask mandate in place. Two after it was allowed to expire, it had gone to over 100. This past week saw 270 cases. We are now shutting down schools because everyone is getting sick. Please stop grandstanding.
trying to climb to the senate on a stack of bodies.
Instead because Covid number quadrupled without masks our schools are now closed for at least a week. Congratulations Eric you screwed parents even harder
“The calvary is coming”
Seriously, who says that? What a doofus.
We are in the midst of a generational public health crisis and you want to play Bootheel Braveheart. Stop taking yourself so seriously and work to fight the real problem at hand.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt today released the following statement addressing school districts that continue to illegally enforce mask mandates and quarantine orders despite the recent Cole County ruling:
“School districts have never been given the authority by the legislature to enact public health orders like mask mandates or quarantine orders – the recent Cole County judgment just further affirms that fact. The decision to mask children in school should rest solely with parents and families. Last month, I informed a number of school districts that their decision to continue to enforce mask mandates is illegal and must be stopped immediately. Some school districts dropped their mask mandates and quarantine orders, but others continue to defy the law, despite the fact that COVID-19 poses very little risk to children. My Office is currently finalizing lawsuits against all non-compliant districts to end the forced masking of schoolchildren, which will be filed later this week. It’s far past time that the power to make health decisions concerning children be pried from the hands of bureaucrats and put back into the hands of parents and families, and I will take school district after school district to court to achieve that goal.”
Selling your soul to end up behind Eric Greitens (r) in the U.S. Senate primary – what could possibly go wrong?
Also today in Springfield, Missouri:
District to close for the remainder of this week
Last week, we shared with you that the COVID-19 surge in Springfield is having a negative impact on our staffing levels at schools. Today, we have continued to see the number of both staff and student absences increase dramatically. Over the last week alone, SPS has documented 863 cases of COVID-19, impacting 661 students and 202 staff. In addition, this has led to challenges in recruiting available substitutes.
At this time, the best option to address staffing shortages and help limit further spread of COVID-19 is to temporarily close our schools and district offices beginning tomorrow – Wednesday, Jan. 19. We hope that by Monday, Jan. 24, we will be able to return to our normal operations; however, we will continue to monitor conditions and keep you updated if there is a need to extend our temporary closure. In the meantime, all in-person and live virtual instruction are canceled for the remainder of this week.
Please note the following:
While district facilities are closed this week, all SPS sites will undergo a thorough cleaning.
The district’s centralized testing location will remain open, but COVID-19 testing will be limited to symptomatic SPS staff until further notice. This will allow SPS to accommodate the demand for appointments with the available inventory of test kits. For other testing opportunities, visit this website.
Grab-and-go meals will be available for students throughout the temporary closure and sign-up is required. Five days of meals will be available for pick-up on Wednesday, Jan. 19, from 4 to 5 p.m. at select sites. To sign up for meals and learn more about pick up, use this form. Note: If you are currently enrolled in virtual learning and already receive grab-and-go meals, additional sign up is not required.
If the current staffing shortages are not improved by Monday, the district will provide an update, which may include an extension of the temporary closure or a transition to virtual learning.
We understand that this change creates a disruption for families and have taken every measure available to avoid this step; however, we are currently unable to continue providing appropriate staffing in our schools. In consultation with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, we determined that this was the best approach for protecting the health and well-being of all those we serve.
SPS encourages you to practice social distancing by limiting public interactions, wear a mask while in public settings, monitor symptoms daily, schedule a test if you’re symptomatic, and if you have not already done so, get a COVID-19 vaccine or booster shot.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we continue adapting to the difficult circumstances created by the ongoing pandemic.

There is much hilarity in the responses:
I certainly hope you will defeated in 2024.
You represent everything MLK fought against. Shame on you
After today, you won’t be seeing Hawley support the message of MLK until next year on this date.
Josh googles ‘famous quotes by Martin Luther King’
Love the quote but you quoting it is hypocrisy
Pass the voting rights bill
Vote yes then to voters rights! Otherwise this is JustBlowing in the Wind
They said scary people would be “” MLK today… damn they were right [….]
Is this a joke?? It has to be a joke, right?
“The world was made for those not cursed with self awareness.”
Don’t quote him unless you are voting for the Freedom to Vote Act.
How did you tweet this with a straight face? Do you think we don’t know you?
And what are YOU doing for voting rights, Senator?
MLK is Hawley’s hero. LOL NOT
You gotta be fkg kidding me.
You don’t deserve to invoke his name.
Keep his words as out of your mouth as they are out of your heart.
How dare you quote this man, when your actions are the exact opposite of everything he believed in and fought for?
WTF are YOU quoting MLK for????
Sit down. MLK would have never supported the insurrection party.
Nothing worse than someone like you quoting someone like MLK.
Look at this virtue signaling.
If you respected MLK at all, your voting record and rhetoric would have been vastly different.
Pretty odd you of all people are quoting MLK.
Noticed that you did not say anything in your own words.
Why is that?
Just words that don’t mean anything to you.
This is hilarious because if MLK was around today Josh would call him a communist and do everything he can to denounce everything he says or does.
Quoting MLK while stomping on his life’s work.
You are seriously quoting Martin Luther King, Jr. after attempting to invalidate the votes of people of color? YOU —?
MLK called for leaders of “sound integrity.”
That leaves you out, @HawleyMO
Lordy, I forgot it’s “racist white people quoting MLK day”…[….]
Quoting MLK and then burning Toni Morrison books.[….]
Yeah ummm… I don’t think you get to quote MLK jr. You would 100% oppose his views if he was alive today. You would be going to Tucker Carlson to slam him so just shush [….]
Do not say his name, while you destroy all he achieved, for your own political gain
It’s to bad that you are one of the people are promoting the REMOVAL OF Martin Luther King’s life and legacy from history class
you want you quoting Dr. King placed under that pic of the repub carrying the confed flag thru the hallways of the attacked Capitol?
or over the one where repubs beat a cop unconscious?
If only you understood and, more important, lived this quote in all its meaning and context. If only you believed in these words. Instead, using his words as you do reeks of political opportunism, just like fist-pumping at an insurrection.

Meta. On occasion we get comments which our system holds for approval. At times, when we’re particularly bored, we’ll take a comment that we wouldn’t normally remove from moderation and post it separately to mock it.
The thing is, is people want to go to hell then that’s their choice! Religion isn’t forced upon anyone! But christians are forces to deal with lots and lots they shouldn’t have to because non Christians rights appear more important! The Bible commands Christians to walk about the land spreading the Word! Telling the Good News!! So we do! Not our fault you’d rather not go to heaven!
We rest our case.
You’re not a particularly convincing representative. We want to be wherever you’re not.

To amend chapter 227, RSMo, by adding thereto two new sections relating to the designation
of memorial highways.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

In context. The list of bills sponsored sponsored by Hardy Billington (r):
HB 1451 – (3064H.01I)
Designates January 12 each year as “Rush Limbaugh Day”
HB 1452 – (3096H.01I)
Requires the performance and explanation of an obstetric ultrasound and auscultation of fetal heartbeat prior to an abortion
HB 1453 – (3070H.01I)

Establishes the “Rev Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Highway” and the “Rush Limbaugh Memorial Highway” in Poplar Bluff
HJR 65 – (3075H.02I)
Modifies the process for getting an initiative petition on the ballot
That’s quite a trend there.
You half expect HB 1456 to require a profile stamp of Rush Limbaugh an all catalytic converters sold in Missouri, which with the emitted hot gases would actually make some sense.

You Ann know exactly how elections are run. As Director in STL county the checks, double checks, the audit that go into certification. Your no vote yesterday was direct opposite of protection of my constitutional rights.
Which rights in particular. Or are you gonna fight for all of them even if you don’t agree with them
Lmao, since when?

ALL of them?
“Protect your Constitutional Rights*”
* exceptions include, voting rights, reprorductive freedom, the separation of church and state, the 13/14/15th Anendments, the Supremacy Clause, 4th Amendment rights
you’re really getting in the way of my pursuit of happiness, ann
Ms Wagner, please stop. We know better.
Due process and reproductive health.
You just voted against the Freedom to Vote act yesterday.
Labor laws, relief aid, combating racial discrimination- either silent when your constituents rights are on the line or openly vote against them.
What about Right to Assemble?
Right to Vote?
Right to Free and Fair Elections?
Right to our own reproductive health decisions?
Not voting rights! What are you scared of Ann???
Only the ones you agree with.
This is simply not true
It helps when you buy a SCOTUS to define constitutional
Then why don’t you support the right to vote without obstruction?
I’m truly embarrassed you are my ‘representative’.
Why would you use “your” in here? Do you think constitutional rights are subject to conditions? Only apply to some? Define “your”
Constitutional rights according to *your* interpretation, Ann.
Is that a joke
Ann…. God doesn’t like liars.
How about you just focus on your oath? How about next time you hold seditionists like Steve Bannon in contempt, rather than in high regard?
Well.. if the past is any indication of the future, I would say that’s a big fat whopper of a lie Ann.
Nobody believes your lies
You lie with such sleaze. It’s almost like second nature to you like breathing. [….]
Meaningless platitudes are worthless, Ann.
Why make voting harder? Why make the pandemic worse? Why only care about spending during D presidencies?
Because you only care about what you can do for money.
You’re Prolife for a fetal heartbeat but not the one beating in my chest. You opposed healthcare for us with pre-existing conditions (cue the squeal). You’re anti mitigation to protect vulnerable from Covid. You oppose Medicaid expansion causing hospitals to close. Try again.
Why do Republicans want to destroy American democracy?
Ann, in order to fight to protect our constitutional rights, you first have to commit to protecting the constitution. In the 2020 election, you failed to do this.
Your tweet is thus disingenuous at best and an outright lie at worst.
