Hope.

Joe Biden (D) [2020 file photo].

This afternoon:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 11, 2021

Remarks by President Biden at Signing of the American Rescue Plan

Oval Office

2:07 P.M. EST

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you for coming in. In the weeks that this bill has been discussed and debated, it’s clear that an overwhelming percentage of the American people — Democrats, independents, our Republican friends — have made it clear — the people out there have made it clear they strongly support the American Rescue Plan.

Yesterday, with the final passage of the plan in the House of Representatives, their voices were heard and reflect- — reflected in everything we have in this bill. And I believe this is — and most people, I think, do as well — this historic legislation is about rebuilding the backbone of this country and giving people in this nation — working people and middle-class folks, the people who built the country — a fighting chance. That’s what the essence of it is.

And I’m going to have a lot more to say about that tonight and in the next couple of days, and be able to take your questions.

But in the meantime, what I’m going to do is sign this bill, and make the presentation tonight. And then there’s going to be plenty of opportunities where we’re going to be on the road, not only talking about — what I’m talking about tonight is the impact on the virus and how we’re going to end this pandemic. And we’re going to talk all the elements of the bill, beginning Friday, Saturday, and through the week.

So, thank you for being here.

(The bill is signed.)

Got it. Thank you all. Appreciate it.

2:09 P.M. EST

Kamala Harris (D) [2019 file photo].

No thanks to Roy Blunt (r), Josh Hawley (r), Sam Graves (r), Vicky Hartzler (r), Billy Long (r), Blaine Luetkemeyer (r), Jason Smith (r), or Ann Wagner (r). The party of “No”.

Give it a rest, at this point you’re just sounding more desperate

Vicky Hartzler (r) [2016 file photo].

On Monday Roy Blunt (r) announced that he would not seek reelection to the U.S. Senate in 2022.

This afternoon:

Pre-packaged right wingnut spin.

Rep. Vicky Hartzler @RepHartzler
When 91% of a bill is designed to appease special interests, it’s not COVID “relief.”

Let’s be clear: This $1,900,000,000,000 bill is a partisan payoff.
[….]
2:36 PM · Mar 10, 2021

“…a partisan payoff..” Says the individual that got how much from the previous relief bill(s)?

Some of the responses:

Dear Vicky’s New Social Media Person—

You’re citing information that isn’t true. You’re trying to incite outrage to further divide a torn nation. And you’re parroting talking points that have been fact-checked + called false earlier today.

Be better than Vicky. Tell the truth.

Guess I won’t be buying anything at Heartland Tractor with that attitude.

Bipartisan: involving the agreement or cooperation of two political parties that usually oppose each other’s policies.

Bipartisan dosen’t mean the GOP complains about a bill, that is supported by the majority, until they get their way of screwing over the American people.

Hartzler is lying. That’s why she is in the minority.

Big Poverty finally gets a win.
Thanks for assuring your constituents that you oppose the general will of the people.

Yeah…special interest in helping people, healthcare, arts and humanities, prisoners are humans that will need to build a life after prison…none of the things in this list are bad…Why are you like this, what is wrong with you?

So you voted No to not provide relief to Americans who need help now. Instead you would much rather take more time debating as the American people continue to struggle to pay for food/rent/mortgage. Makes perfect sense… The Majority of Americans support this bill.

Absolute hogwash, Vic. Stop lying.

Would you just shut the hell up. Americans are getting help in spite of you and all other Republicans obstructing it. Your only option now is to continue spinning your lies. You failed the American people at a time when they most needed help. Resign.

2nd Congressional District, American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, Ann Wagner, Corona virus, COVID-19 relief, pandemic, Roy Blunt, U.S. Senate

On Monday Roy Blunt (r) announced that he would not seek reelection to the U.S. Senate in 2022.

Ann Wagner @RepAnnWagner
It is shameful that Democrats have disregarded their obligation to provide real COVID relief to the American people and are instead attempting to use this process to jam through partisan agenda items. This bill is not targeted, timely, nor tied to COVID.
10:47 AM · Mar 10, 2021

Yes, shameful, that’s the word.

There is much hilarity in the responses. First, from Ann Wagner (r):

We need to focus on solving the critical issues at hand—getting vaccines to Americans, providing relief for our local restaurants and entertainment venues, and supporting those who have been seriously impacted by this pandemic.

Uh…

Anyway, my family will happily accept the aid offered in the COVID relief bill, and we will remember that you didn’t want us to have it.

Timeliness would’ve been a lot better with a modicum of Republican support.

How much crack does the right smoke?

You are shameful.

It was shameful to go maskless in your district during a pandemic this Christmas (on a carriage ride, no less), and then to allow constituents to die because of your ineffective leadership to provide vaccines and meaningful aid. Talk about shameful. Take some responsibility, Ann.

This bill is the worst nightmare possible for Republicans like you. I feel your pain but frankly don’t care. You don’t understand what COVID did to this country, to families who have suffered under GOP policies for decades.

The Empire Is Striking back. You lost. We won.

Not quite the analogy I would have chosen, but it still works.

You’re lying. The bill addresses both The pandemic directly and the economic crisis that was created by COVID. These crises—made exponentially worse by the terrible leadership of the previous administration—must be tackled simultaneously.

It’s shameful that you, yet again, failed to support your constituents. We lament having you as our representation on a daily basis. We wonder how you sleep while you try to destroy so many lives and hope for someone who actually gives us a voice sometime soon.

There’s that shame thing again.

High irony using the word ‘shame’.

They haven’t. We know they haven’t. Stop lying. You’re embarrassing yourself, and your state.

Quit your damn lying. For once try to represent the interests of your constituents. Your cowardice and corruption are pathetic. [….]

You are so full of it. You are voting AGAINST $1,400 direct payments, jobless benefits, state and local aid, school assistance, and so much more. Why do you hate your own constituents? Why do you lie so much? Why are you so damn worthless, unethical, and corrupt?

Give it up Ann, you lying liar. This bill has incredible bipartisan support everywhere, even with republican voters. The only ones that don’t like it are republican obstructionists like yourself. [….]

@RepAnnWagner
Hey, traitor. Here’s the breakdown on the 2017 GOP Tax Bill.
-1.3 Trillion Corporate tax giveaway
-83 B to let heirs inherit larger estates
-435 Billion tax cut for the wealthiest 1% of Americans
You voted to overturn the Democracy. You are a traitor.
#GOPHypocrisy

There’s that.

American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, Corona virus, COVID-19 relief, Josh Hawley, missouri, obstruction, pandemic, social media, Twitter, Virginia

Josh Hawley (r) [2016 file photo].

Yesterday, from the third Senator from Virginia:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
.@mogop_jasper have been looking forward for many days to being with you tonight for Lincoln Days. But the Senate has stayed in session and I’m still in DC representing our state. I’ll keep on standing up for what we believe – unafraid – and hope to see you soon
11:24 AM · Mar 6, 2021

As usual, there was hilarity in most of the rsponses:

You voted against COVID-19 relief.

You don’t represent Missourians.

Josh, we here in Missouri are so very proud of what you are doing for us. Standings up for what us right and just and fair.We voted for you and have been very proud of you.

And the folks in Virginia?

Most of the people in Missouri I know didn’t, and the ones who did say they feel duped. They especially don’t like they found out he was lying about supporting pre-existing conditions, and conned them about even living here.

Who’s surprised that the party responsible for a violent insurrection that left 7 Americans dead, hundreds injured, ended a 232-year peaceful transition of power and whose own members are now currently under investigation by the DOJ wouldn’t vote for a plan to help Americans?

Personally I’m glad bill passed as I NEED the help! But, I totally agree with the reasons the Republicans are voting against it. It’s not the helping Americans part they object to, it’s the 90% of the bill going to things thst are not covid or people related.

Think about that for just a second.

I got mine, screw you (February 27, 2021)

except for you voted against the relief package after WEEKS of virtue signaling when it was politically convenient. Woj said it best. Resign.

Josh expressed a degree of concern;
about Wray’s probe he tried more to learn.
His hands fairly twitched; his
voice wavered & pitched. Maybe
Josh felt a tinge of heartburn?
Why focus on the metadata?
We very well may find out later.

Senators Hawley & Cruz have repeatedly expressed concern about the idea of the FBI looking into phone records of those in Congress, on & leading up to Jan 6. Hawley in particular has fumed about this “violation of privacy” in multiple hearings.

Mmm… Wonder why…

You voted against raising the minimum, guess you guys really aren’t the party of the working class.

The guy who instigated an attempt at political assassination — is going to celebrate “Lincoln Days.”

This shit writes itself.

This person won the Internets yesterday.

Wait…was Josh Hawley really planning to come back to Missouri?? Guess his sister was going to make up the spare bedroom for him at his “home” in Missouri.

You don’t represent us – we wanted the Covid relief bill & you voted against it. Thankful for the Democrats who passed it. They care. You don’t.

Maybe, and I’m just spit balling, don’t let your party waste 10 hours reading a bill just to be obstinate.

“Unafraid” is an odd word to throw in there…

Unafraid of what? The FBI gathering data on terrorists? Donors abondoning you as fast as they can?

At least you won’t have to pay for a hotel in Missouri, since you don’t have a house to stay at while there.

Here, let me fix this for ya: “Don’t worry, I’ll keep lying for you, and can’t wait to be thanked for it.”

Its your party’s fault it took this long.

Yeah, where is that vote for raising the minimum wage? Anyway, you support insurrection. Just stay at your Virginia home.

You don’t even live in Missouri, Josh

The very last place you represent is Missouri.

Unafraid? To represent a state you don’t live in?

Josh is busy trying to prevent financial help from reaching middle class families so that there will more $ to send to his billionaire donors.

So good to know Joshie cares so deeply for the people he used to live among! He clearly deeply connected! #JoshLies

You don’t represent me. (A Missouri resident.)

Pretty confident most Missourians oppose insurrection.

It’s close though.

Which state? The one where you live?

For what “we believe.” Maybe represent your entire state not just “we.”

There’s that.

Give it up. One termer.

You voted AGAINST the American people

He just tweeted this to another girl, dont believe him

You sure about that?

What are you afraid of? Hmm…

If you were truly unafraid you would not constantly say you are unafraid. #Traitor

“standing up for what we believe”. Is “what we believe” just limited to treason, insurrection, and sedition, or is there more to it than that?

The more you say you’re unafraid, the more we get the impression you’re trying to convince yourself otherwise.

Josh…what is it “exactly” that you believe in…

CERTAINLY NOT the working class. So rich people rejoice, the other hundreds of millions of you go F-yourself

Signed – j hawley

Biden COVID bill passed by Senate.

100% of Democrats supported it.
100% of Republicans who voted opposed it.

77% of all American voters support it and are relieved it passed.

Relief is coming, no thanks to Republicans!

@HawleyMO, are you able to help your constituents understand which parts of this you oppose? Be specific.

Another canned tweet from a deadbeat Senator.

Your no vote on the American Rescue Plan proves you have been lying all the times you swore to fight for $2000 stimulus checks. You and your obstructionist comrades don’t care a damn bit about working families struggling to keep their families fed and a roof over their head.

Y’all voted against the stimulus package so please tell your constituents to return their 1400.00

Yep.

That was then…

All 6 GOP Reps in Missouri Voted for That Crazy ‘Tax Reform’
Posted By Danny Wicentowski on Tue, Dec 19, 2017 at 3:44 pm

Like a collection of sycophantic Santa Clauses all muscling down a chimney at once, Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives today finally gave President Donald Trump the legislative gift he’s been hoping for all season. And Missouri representatives were right there in the heart of the huddle.

One barely needs to check the list of votes once, let alone twice. In Missouri, the vote came down to a straight party line, with Ann Wagner, Billy Long, Blaine Luetkemeyer, Jason Smith, Sam Graves and Vicky Hartzler each casting their vote for a tax bill that, in addition to pumping up the nation’s deficit and providing luxurious belly rubs to corporations, also unstitches Americans’ current healthcare coverage and provides big breaks to the wealthy.
[….]

Vicky Hartzler (r) [2016 file photo].

This is now…

Very early this morning:

Hartzler Opposes Legislation with Massive Price Tag
February 27, 2021 Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04) released the following statement regarding tonight’s vote on the American Rescue Plan:

“For the sixth time in less than a year, Congress considered legislation to address the COVID pandemic. The last five COVID relief packages have provided a combined total of $4 trillion in relief funding. However, an analysis by the Committee for a Responsible Budget has found approximately $1 trillion that has yet to be spent from the previous relief packages.

The American Rescue Plan is serving as an excuse to spend our tax money on unnecessary things completely unrelated to the pandemic. With less than nine percent of this legislation designated for COVID, this spending spree could not be further from ‘relief.’

This package contains $112 million for Speaker Pelosi’s Silicon Valley tunnel project, $135 million for the National Endowment for the Arts, $135 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities, $200 million for the Institute of Museum and Library Services and $12 billion in foreign aid. None of these items actually tackle this pandemic.

By pushing this bill through Congress in the name of ‘relief,’ we are recklessly gambling with our future while expanding our national deficit by trillions.

With a growing economy, COVID numbers going down, and over $1 trillion still available for ongoing needs, now is not the time to go further in debt by passing wish-list pork for the Speaker disguised as ‘COVID relief.’”

That is, at the very least, an ironic choice for a press release headline.

What was that vote again on the massive Donald Trump (r) giveaway for the top 1%? Oh, yeah, we already mentioned that.

And, of course, this, from last Spring:

Hartzler-owned firms receive disaster loans
Posted Apr 28, 2020 at 5:37 PM

Like many businesses, those owned by U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler and her husband, Lowell Hartzler, applied for and received Paycheck Protection Program loans to stay afloat during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Paycheck Protection Program was created in the relief bill approved March 27 and given $349 billion for loans to businesses that kept employees on the payroll. The money may also be spent on expenses such as rent, mortgages and utilities, and if spent within eight weeks of receipt does not have to be repaid.

Hartzler, R-Harrisonville, voted for the original legislation and last week voted to add $310 billion to the loan fund. She opposed a proposal to create a special Congressional oversight subcommittee to monitor spending of federal aid and the overall response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
[….]

Vicky Hartzler (r) got hers. She apparently doesn’t believe most other Americans need similar help.

Late last night, I voted YES on the COVID relief package.
