Statement from President Joe Biden on Decision in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA
Today a single federal district judge in Texas ruled that a prescription medication that has been available for more than 22 years, approved by the FDA and used safely and effectively by millions of women here and around the world, should no longer be approved in the United States. The Court in this case has substituted its judgment for FDA, the expert agency that approves drugs. If this ruling were to stand, then there will be virtually no prescription, approved by the FDA, that would be safe from these kinds of political, ideological attacks.
The prescription medication in question in this case is used for medication abortion, and medication abortion accounts for over half the abortions in America. The lawsuit, and this ruling, is another unprecedented step in taking away basic freedoms from women and putting their health at risk. This does not just affect women in Texas – if it stands, it would prevent women in every state from accessing the medication, regardless of whether abortion is legal in a state. It is the next big step toward the national ban on abortion that Republican elected officials have vowed to make law in America.
My Administration will fight this ruling. The Department of Justice has already filed an appeal and will seek an immediate stay of the decision. But let’s be clear – the only way to stop those who are committed to taking away women’s rights and freedoms in every state is to elect a Congress who will pass a law restoring Roe versus Wade. Vice President Harris and I will continue to lead the fight to protect a woman’s right to an abortion, and to make her own decisions about her own health. That is our commitment.

Office of
The Vice PresidentFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 7, 2023Statement from Vice President Harris on Decision in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA
Today’s unprecedented decision threatens the rights of women nationwide to make decisions about their health care and the ability to access medication prescribed to them by their doctors. Simply put: this decision undermines the FDA’s ability to approve safe and effective medications—from chemotherapy drugs, to asthma medicine, to blood pressure pills, to insulin—based on science, not politics. This decision threatens the rights of Americans across the country, who can look in their medicine cabinets and find medication prescribed by a doctor because the FDA engaged in a process to determine the efficacy and safety of that medication.
At the same time as the court in Texas issued the decision to try to restrict access to FDA-approved medication, a court in Washington state reached a different conclusion.
Each person in our nation should have the right to access safe and effective medication which has been approved by the FDA. In the face of attacks on a woman’s right to access an abortion, our Administration will continue to fight to protect reproductive freedom and the ability of all Americans to make health care decisions with their doctors free from political interference.

Remarks by Vice President Harris at the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies 28th Annual Awards
MAY 24, 2022
[….]7:06 P.M. EDT
THE VICE PRESIDENT: [….]Tonight is a rough night. We planned for a great celebration, but I’m sure most of you have heard the tragic news about what has happened in Texas.
So I had prepared comments about tonight, which I will speak, but I just first want to begin by saying a few words about the tragedy that occurred today in Uvalde, Texas.
As many of you now, the reports are that there was a mass shooting at an elementary school, and the preliminary reports are that 14 children have been killed. And the details are still coming in, and of course the President and I are monitoring the situation closely.
So while we don’t know all the details yet, we do know that there are parents who have lost children, families that have lost children and their loves ones, of course, and many others who may have been injured.
So, I would normally say in a moment like this — we would all say naturally — that our hearts break, but our hearts keep getting broken.
You know, I think so many — there’s so many elected leaders in this room. You know what I’m talking about. Every time a tragedy like this happens, our hearts break, and our broken hearts are nothing compared to the broken hearts of those families. And yet, it keeps happening.
So, I think we all know and have said many times with each other: Enough is enough. Enough is enough.
As a nation, we have to have the courage to take action and understand the nexus between what make for reasonable and sensible public policy to ensure something like this never happens again.
So, the President will speak more about this later. But for now, I will just say to the people of Uvalde: Please know that this is a room full of leaders who grieve with you. And we are praying for you, and we stand with you.
And it is difficult at a time like this to think about much else, but I do look around this room and I know who is here, and I know this is a room full of American leaders who know and have the courage to take a stand.
And so let us, tonight, as we do every time we all get together, recommit ourselves to having the courage to take action.

Statement by Vice President Harris on Texas Law SB8
SEPTEMBER 01, 2021Today, a new law takes effect in Texas that directly violates the precedent established in the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. This all-out assault on reproductive health effectively bans abortion for the nearly 7 million Texans of reproductive age. Patients in Texas will now be forced to travel out-of-state or carry their pregnancy to term against their will. This law will dramatically reduce access to reproductive care for women in Texas, particularly for women with low incomes and women of color. It also includes a disturbing provision that incentivizes private citizens to sue anyone who assists another person in receiving an abortion.
The Biden-Harris Administration will always fight to protect access to healthcare and defend a woman’s right to make decisions about her body and determine her future.

Is Vice President Kamala Harris now more likely to go to the border or space first?

Someone never got out of junior high school, either. It’s the mean lunch table.
As usual, the responses are hilarious:
I imagine both will happen before you admit lying about the VP and her book.
True that.
We should explore the space between your ears.
Pass.
#Seditionist sez, “What?”
Is @RepHartzler more likely to defend the Constitution or a father who objectifies his own daughter?
#GOPDemocracyCrisis
I’d say both are more likely than you holding a open town hall meeting
Heh.
Seems to be living in that head of yours
We noticed that, too.
What are the gop primary policy goals right now? Your last several tweets are about the border. Even if you perceive it as a problem, you have to admit you failed to offer any solutions when your party held power. Do you have nothing to offer for Missourians?
You’re like a brain damaged parrot.
Are you an idiot?

American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, Chuck Schumer, Congress, Corona virus, COVID-19 relief, Domocrats, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, pandemic
Hope.
This afternoon:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 11, 2021Remarks by President Biden at Signing of the American Rescue Plan
Oval Office
2:07 P.M. EST
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you for coming in. In the weeks that this bill has been discussed and debated, it’s clear that an overwhelming percentage of the American people — Democrats, independents, our Republican friends — have made it clear — the people out there have made it clear they strongly support the American Rescue Plan.
Yesterday, with the final passage of the plan in the House of Representatives, their voices were heard and reflect- — reflected in everything we have in this bill. And I believe this is — and most people, I think, do as well — this historic legislation is about rebuilding the backbone of this country and giving people in this nation — working people and middle-class folks, the people who built the country — a fighting chance. That’s what the essence of it is.
And I’m going to have a lot more to say about that tonight and in the next couple of days, and be able to take your questions.
But in the meantime, what I’m going to do is sign this bill, and make the presentation tonight. And then there’s going to be plenty of opportunities where we’re going to be on the road, not only talking about — what I’m talking about tonight is the impact on the virus and how we’re going to end this pandemic. And we’re going to talk all the elements of the bill, beginning Friday, Saturday, and through the week.
So, thank you for being here.
(The bill is signed.)
Got it. Thank you all. Appreciate it.
2:09 P.M. EST
No thanks to Roy Blunt (r), Josh Hawley (r), Sam Graves (r), Vicky Hartzler (r), Billy Long (r), Blaine Luetkemeyer (r), Jason Smith (r), or Ann Wagner (r). The party of “No”.

in“Madam (Vice) President” March – Major Brian Dix
SAN DIEGO — Retired Major Brian Dix, Director Laureate of the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, will debut his recent work “Madam (Vice) President” in a performance by an all-volunteer, all-female orchestra hailing from the state of California. Appropriately scheduled in time for the 59th presidential inauguration, the virtual concert honors Vice President-Elect Kamala D. Harris.
Last year, Dix was in discussion with the Rhode Island Philharmonic to debut this symphonic march, originally titled “Madam President,” until the COVID-19 pandemic suspended live performances and the work had to be shelved. Following last year’s historic election, Dix was inspired to rededicate the march to both the first woman vice president and all of the extraordinary women who enter the American political arena.
“When the Associated Press called the election on November 7, several colleagues said, ‘You’ve got to change the title!” Dix said. “Just as the vice president of the United States is also the president of the Senate, this march can pull double duty.”
Dix then assembled an all-volunteer orchestra featuring musicians from professional, semi-professional, college and community orchestras. “This performance is not only for women, but by women,” Dix said. “I want to pay tribute to their hard work over the past 100 years and to inspire younger women to march forward with their dreams, where becoming Madam (Vice) President is the ultimate brass ring.”
