Governor Mike Parson (r) [2018 file photo].

Yesterday:

Governor Mike Parson @GovParsonMO
States, territories and the federal government should work together to simplify the federal workforce structure and create public-private partnerships to upskill workers that will bridge the ever-present skills gap and fuel economic recovery as the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
[….]
7:03 PM · Jul 12, 2021

As the “pandemic subsides”? Really?

Some of the responses:

Wait, Parson was just bragging about #Missouri unemployment rate, economic recovery (via U-Haul), signed a Fed nullification bill, won’t spend Fed funds people need, won’t fund education, healthcare, vaccination campaign, Health Depts, Child Services, etc but now this? Really?

Missouri ranks 49th in education. 49th in teacher pay. Number 1 for Covid infections. One wonders if the skills gap and education and covid infections might somehow be related??

You need to concentrate on getting Covid under control. If you don’t want to do it, find someone who knows what they are doing and hire them. This is only going to get worse as the weeks go on.

Missouri is still leading the nation in Covid. I know you still really want to pretend it’s over

The pandemic isn’t subsiding in Missouri. It’s raging. Pretty soon we’ll have our own variant because your neighbors don’t believe in science.

Says the guy who blocked federal law that defunds local law enforcement if they work with Federal law enforcement. My OFallon police chief resigned bc of it.

You think COVID is subsiding in MO? That’s almost as delusional as thinking you want cooperation between state & Federal govt. Didn’t you just sign a bill saying the opposite?

“As the COVID-19 pandemic subsides”? Sir you do know you are the governor of the state of Missouri where COVID-19 cases are currently increasing exponentially?

Umm. It’s not subsiding in MO.

WTF???

COVID is NOT subsiding in Missouri. It’s getting worse. Why would he say it’s subsiding? It’s a shitshow in SW Missouri where I live. Hospitals are overflowing. People are dying. Parsons has failed to respond in a timely manner to this pandemic. This is failed leadership.

Are we going to shift the paradigms and build synergy to optimize positive outcomes?

This is a bunch of corporate-speak BS that was copied and pasted by the Governor’s staff.

It was written by a committee and then forwarded by an idiot.

Subsides? @GovParsonMO perhaps talk to a few healthcare folks in Springfield. What a poor poor example you are.

Subsides? You need to go check your dictionary.

Continue to ignore Covid and you will have a lot of jobs open up. Republicans continue to not care about their own voters, it’s just amazingly stupid.

Where is Covid subsiding? Certainly not in MO under your failed leadership.

You have no idea what you’re doing. Please stop offering suggestions on what should be happening. You’re incompetent.

Covid has not subsided. Admissions are doubling again. Nurses have left because they are tired of the no vaccine no mask bullshit. There won’t be enough nurses to care for our aging population. Good luck you’re pretty much f@cked.

I see you’ve managed to incorporate seven bull$hit bingo terms into your run-on sentence tweet, including the ridiculous “upskill”.
AND you’ve implied (dishonestly) that the pandemic is subsiding, while you have a full-blown medical crisis in your state.
Liar.

Missouri counties are in the top 20 of all of USA for covid cases, hospitalizations, .and deaths. Obviously not subsiding. You are just another alternative facts Republican moron.

You really are a shitty governor.

Says dude who cut off unemployment so as to try and force people to take crap minimum wage service jobs. GFY

Subsides? Have you seen the numbers in Missouri? Christ you’re an ignorant asshole.

But…at least we know who are more likely to engage in behavior that will reduce the red voter pool in 2022. Good Job killing your voters off, Moron.

Missouri.

On March 2, 2021:

Republican Women’s Club hosts candidate forum for JCCHS board candidates
[….]
Megan Jaeger

Megan Jaeger introduced herself as a Christian, a homeschooling mother of two, a wife to a military member, the owner of a farm north of Warrensburg and was previously a physical education teacher. She is also a member of Johnson County Freedom Keepers, which hosted an anti-mask protest in front of JCCHS last year.

Jaeger said she decided to run for the position after she made public comments during JCCHS board meetings over the last year. She said her questions were dismissed and board members told her that she was misinformed about mask safety. Jaeger said she never received responses to emails made to JCCHS regarding COVID-19.

Jaeger said she also decided to run because parents and educators she spoke to felt their voices were not being heard by the board.

Jaeger said she believes the role of the health department is to inform citizens and allow citizens to make their own decisions. She claimed that implementing a mask mandate is “overreach” and stated she would not support actions violating human rights or body autonomy.

Jaeger said she believes the JCCHS board lacked transparency. When prompted by an attendee, she said if elected, she would provide her email and phone number to the public.
[….]

Megan Jaeger was elected to the Johnson County [Missouri] Community Health Services Board of Trustees.

And what did anyone expect?:

Chris Prener @chrisprener
Wow… Johnson County’s local health board contains a newly elected anti-vaxx member. Missouri has some of the lowest vaccination rates in the nation. Local public health officials poisoning the well does nothing to help us.

Some of the comments:

Michael Bersin There was a candidate who was highly qualified and didn’t even come close – a retired nurse practitioner who had served as a commissioned officer in the Public Health Service.
Those who didn’t vote in the election got the board member they deserved. Everyone else suffers.

These folks frustrate me to no end. She just has “questions” but no answers. Uh huh. So what’s her big idea to solve the pandemic? Still waiting on an answer.
(sorry for the language, i am running out of patience with these folks around here) [….]

What I find continually ironic is that when those opposed to the vaccine become get COVID, they trust healthcare workers to use science to treat them-& through their ignorance they put those people at risk. The levels of ignorance, entitlement and selfishness are so frustrating.

How does someone like this get elected to anything.

Whoever wrote this article [Fox News] kind of sucks, given that they presented her idiotic viewpoint pretty much as an “equal” to the reality… When it’s not even close to reality. Irresponsible journalism

Well, it’s Fox. But she’s popular on Facebook, around here, in Warrensburg. Sadly.

That doesn’t surprise me at all… I’m sitting right on the Cass/Johnson County line… 90% of the people around here appear to have been turned into deranged cultists over the last year or so and that’s just all there is to it.

On July 7, 2021:

Keep the feds out of our county.

Uh, Whiteman Air Force Base, anyone?

The responses are priceless:

States routinely accept federal monies and resources e.g. roads, highways, bridges and flood relief. Why should you oppose federal assistance to help Missouri residence get the vaccine if they want to be vaccinated?

It is one thing to be Antivax and it is another to push your belief on others. If your science is so good, why would you stop the information about the “other side” informed choice

Megan Jaeger for JoCoMo Health Board It’s not about censoring information. It’s about government overreach.
Why are they censoring the science?

Uh, who is “they”?

Megan was elected because she represents the views we already have here in Johnson county. She’s not pushing us. We decided against getting the vaccine all by ourselves.

Disinformation is not helpful. Missouri is in crisis and you make it worse.

Please resign I see you have 0 education or credentials to backup your positions

Megan Jaeger for JoCoMo Health Board The board is voted in by the people. The community spoke.

Apparently, by attitude and ego, it was by 15,000 votes?

what is the purpose of the feds? I’m needing an update please!

Uh, universal mail service, for starters.

Everyone needs to put up a no trespassing signs immediately. They better not show up here

Doesn’t want universal mail service?

Looks like you enjoy watching COVID spread and kill people. Don’t think you’d make a good member of the health board, sorry.

Megan Jaeger for JoCoMo Health Board Did you vote in the April election?

Uh, the job is to serve the entire population, not just the millions who voted for you in a landslide.

Megan Jaeger for JoCoMo Health Board Who determines misinformation? If it can be backed by facts, it isn’t misinformation. You claim I don’t care about health because we abstain from vaccines, that claim is misinformation. Our personal choice to not participate in this medical procedure began when members of our family suffered severe reactions.

The plural of anecdote is not data.

Megan Jaeger for JoCoMo Health Board I’m not advising against vaccination. I’m encouraging everyone to do their due diligence. I share information for informed consent.

“I’m not advising against vaccination….” Yes, you are.

You obviously care not a whit for the health and well being of others, or you’d be promoting masking and vaccines.

Why did you have to get the media involved?? That seems to be the trend now days, whatever it takes to get attention. If you’re not an “anti-vaxer” and want others to make decisions for themselves, why did you go as far to reach out to the media to be interviewed on a KC news station? That’s a bit extreme and seems as if you’re taking such an avenue to shove your beliefs down others throats. Also, I’d really like to know your background – what medical training do you have other than googling and sharing articles that you agree with?
Yes, I’m a nurse. Yes, there is a certain vaccine I did not have my daughters get due to my firsthand knowledge of adverse reactions. But that does not make me label ALL vaccines as bad. I am a recent leukemia survivor and had a bone marrow transplant whose immunity is still low and I received the COVID vaccine. Thankfully my body developed antibodies to COVID thanks to the vaccine. Does that mean I’m 100% safe? Absolutely not, but it makes me feel much more safe.

Megan Jaeger for JoCoMo Health Board I was contacted by Linda Wagar last week. I’m just as surprised as you that a KC news station would care what I think. Please don’t assume you know why we abstain from vaccines. I shared more about the interview Wednesday.

Ah, yes, that little known Federal law requiring people to talk to the press and exhibit their foolishness while doing so.

lol, lol, more hillbillies gonna croak from covid!

Unfortunately so, especially when simple actions could save lives.

This is what we face as a state and nation, and why we can’t have nice things.

We’re getting a massive traffic spike from this, posted yesterday morning:

This morning in Springfield, Missouri (July 11, 2021)

A hospital administrator [for Cox Health] in Springfield, Missouri enumerated, via social media, the severity of the increase of admissions due to the COVID-19 surge. The math isn’t good.

Another comment appeared with that post. Trolling. We’re not allowing these out of moderation to be linked with the original post, but are reproducing them on meta posts here, as we see fit:

What percentage of Cox employees are vaccinated against COVID?

And?

More relevant questions:

How many Cox employees continued to show up to care for SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 patients before there were available vaccines?

How many Cox employees contracted SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 while caring for any un-vaccinated patients?

How many Cox employees died from SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 after caring for SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 patients?

Show some empathy and respect. But, this, of course, is Missouri.

This is what we face as a state and nation, and why we can’t have nice things.

Here we are.

Get vaccinated.

Meta: I honed some of my social media chops over eighteen years ago as a volunteer “troll hunter” on a campaign forum for an eventually unsuccessful national presidential campaign. One of my innovations was a “troll museum”, a section where I moved trolling posts and comments to where they would be preserved for observation and public derision – without distracting from the purposes of the original campaign posts. This ain’t my first rodeo.

We’ve received a couple of additional comments. Again, we’re not allowing them out of moderation to be linked with the original post, but are reproducing them here for the purpose of public derision and mockery.

The first, less obnoxious, but not particularly well thought out comment:

[….] Just to play devil’s advocate, please don’t lump all non-Vac folks together. Some are old and have so many underlying problems, even their doctors advise them to pass on the jabs and just not go out at all.

Well, you certainly are doing the Devil’s work, if you believe in such things. A question: What percentage of the population in Greene County, Missouri is elderly (say, over 65) and has refrained from getting vaccinated because of their doctor’s concern for the possible impact(s) due to their preexisting medical conditions? We’ll wait.

Also, read this.

The next comment:

Would love to see all the information on what is the long term effect on all those getting the shot ( it’s not a vaccine) is especially our young ones. Seems like a shot that has never been approved thru normal channels should at the very least be a concern as all indications show that a extremely high percentage of people either will not get sick or will come through the ordeal just fine with the correct treatment. Amazing how many other sicknesses have diminished with covid-19 always in the forefront. We really need to see fact’s on this disease and those cure’s that are actually working.

Uh, it’s a vaccine. Read more, watch less television.

“Faux News channel, fascist groupies” – protest sign, circa 2003- 2004.

Also, possessive is not plural. It appears that science and critical thinking weren’t the only school subjects you slept through.

Reports on SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19, disease transmission, treatments, and vaccine development, testing, and efficacy are easily accessible via the CDC. Go read those readily understandable reports and studies. Science. Hint: the veterinary version of an anti-parasitic drug available from your local agricultural supply center doesn’t work, but it could make things worse.

This is what we face as a state and nation, and why we can’t have nice things.

So, here we are.

Get vaccinated.

Wear a damn mask.

Invariably when a traffic spike like this occurs we get comments, some from right wingnut trolls. If you’ve ever been around here before you’d notice we don’t get a lot of comments. That’s mostly because we’re normally only read by dozens of people. So many that even international spammers don’t bother us with investment solicitations or prescription advice anymore. Sadly, when we get a massive traffic spike it predicts the return of those spammers. Not to worry too much. Our system filters those out for the most part.

We also had the foresight to set our comment default to “moderation” when we moved to this platform. This means that a comment doesn’t get posted unless we approve it. Generally, we approve relevant comments. We save all the violence and death threats, but don’t publish them (really, there haven’t been that many). By the way, when you post a comment we also get your email and IP addresses.

This afternoon we received a trolling comment, held in moderation. We’re not going to allow it go up with the post, but it is such a perfect example of right wingnut talking points and willful ignorance that we’re presenting it here. This is what we face as a state and nation, and why we can’t have nice things:

[….]
Your people are in denial to be honest with you they don’t have a testing process that is full proof we have more false positives than anything besides let’s talk about what incentive the medical community has to follow the push of the government they get paid extra if they flag it person as covid positive. This is gotten out of control and to be honest with you the taxpayers are tired of the medical community only being concerned with money in their pocket this is all bullshit

So, here we are.

It’s not good.

Steve Edwards @SDECoxHealth
119 Covid inpatients at CoxHealth this morning. (We had only 14 patients in the middle of May).

Projections for the week of July 19 range from 153-178. This is likely well beyond our capability.

Delta is so highly transmissible, if not vaccinated, you are at tremendous risk.
7:27 AM · Jul 11, 2021

Some of the responses:

@GovParsonMO Thank you, Governor. You need to have more tourism in southwest Missouri.

Any numbers available for how many you are treating in ER/outpatient and sending home, sending home with oxygen? Any info on how many cases are bad enough to miss 2 weeks+ of work? # of people in area dealing with long haul symptoms?

Steve Edwards @SDECoxHealth The answer to all questions is “a lot” sorry, don’t have time to track this down, but your point is well taken. Hospitalizations are the tip of the iceberg in terms of human and economic costs. Rising insurance cost, lost wages, long haul syndrome…

I know you’ve said you’re seeing pediatric patients now. Is there data on how Delta is affecting otherwise healthy kids? I’ve looked but can’t really find anything. How worried do we need to be for our kiddos who can’t be vaccinated?

Steve Edwards @SDECoxHealth It is scary that we are beginning to see more pediatric admissions, but our anecdotal experience is they have recovered quickly. Don’t know yet about long haul syndrome.

How ma[n]y are not vaccinated?

Steve Edwards @SDECoxHealth That number probably won’t change much, you can assume that 97% + percent of covid pneumonia admissions are unvaccinated.

Gonna need more beds. Biden is capable of sending military personnel to help with expansion and medical care. I would rule out Gov. Parsons. He would probably just send National Guard to hand out popsicles and balloons.

Wow! So 20 new Covid admissions since your tweet yesterday?

Steve Edwards @SDECoxHealth 20 net admissions, as we also have discharges so total new admissions exceed 20

Sadly, I agree with you that with the current trajectory it will indeed get worse before it gets better. I’m at a loss Mr. E. You all are Heroes in my eyes. I wish there was more I could do to help.

Missouri got confused about “all exposure is good exposure”

Fools…And to avoid this strain on our healthcare systems, all folks needed was a little prick in their arm w/ a proven life saving vaccine. My prayers are with the healthcare workers and not so much with the foolish. Sorry, I’ve low tolerance for politically driven stupidity.

Yes, and the strain on the system might be denying others treatment they desperately need. And the HCWs, many underpaid overworked and their own lives and families being put at risk.

Unfortunately, some people must learn everything the hard way…

Get vaccinated.

Wear a damn mask.

The campaign continues

Corona virus, COVID-19, hospital, missouri, pandemic, Pettis County, Sedalia

“…We will be increasing security staff at the hospital’s front entrance to help manage what we see as an unfortunate increase in people who don’t want to follow the rules…”

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Today, in Sedalia, Missouri:

Bothwell Regional Health Center

This is an urgent plea from our hospital medical staff to our community. If you don’t have time to read it, please at least read the bulleted TLDR (Too Long, Didn’t Read) version:

• Visitors are not allowed for hospitalized patients who are Covid positive or who are awaiting test results.
• Don’t visit patients in the hospital if you don’t have to and definitely stay home if you are ill.
• When you’re in the hospital or any Bothwell clinic, masks are required to be worn.
• Consider vaccination. Seriously.

Real talk? Covid is not gone as we all wish it was. The number of people in our hospital is increasing daily; today there are 10 with several on ventilators. And because the current virus variant symptoms are different (runny nose, sore throat, diarrhea and brain fog) from the original, many people don’t believe they are ill with it and are subsequently spreading illness in our community. Yesterday, the Pettis County Health Center reported there has been a 175% increase in cases in the past seven days.

As we are again testing all admitted patients, no Covid positive patient or a patient waiting for test results may have any visitors. We do make exceptions for end-of-life, special circumstances and patients who are children. It’s not safe for anyone but medical personnel wearing gowns, masks and goggles to be in these patients’ rooms. The good news is that we have an efficient testing system and the wait for results is relatively short.
If possible, decrease the number of visits to patients in the hospital and do not visit if you have any of the above symptoms no matter how mild or insignificant you think they might be. If you must visit, masks are still required. We will be increasing security staff at the hospital’s front entrance to help manage what we see as an unfortunate increase in people who don’t want to follow the rules.

Also on the good news front, we have seen an uptick in demand for the Covid vaccine. As a result, we have added clinic dates to the schedule. Find all vaccine information at http://www.brhc.org/vaccine. If you can’t get to our daytime events, Katy Trail Community Health offers vaccines from 3-6 pm each Tuesday and Friday at the Sedalia Area Farmers’ Market on the Missouri State Fairgrounds as well as on Saturdays at 821 Westwood in Sedalia. You may also visit http://www.vaccines.gov, text your zip code to 438829 or call 800.232.0233 to find your nearest vaccine location if these opportunities don’t work with your schedule.

Thanks for reading this far. We simply must protect our patients and our employees so they can be here to protect them, and you should you need hospital care.

Sedalia, Missouri in August 2020:

‘Resist the Mandatory Mask.’ Missouri town’s fight over COVID mandate lands in court (August 19, 2020)

Inspiring confidence. Not.

Governor Mike Parson (r) [2018 file photo].

This morning:

Governor Mike Parson @GovParsonMO
Missouri’s health care system remains stable.
11:05 AM · Jul 9, 2021

Some of the responses:

Liar.
[….]

If you are concerned about getting the #COVID #vaccination, please get the facts from the scientists. [….]

“Stable” is what you say about a patient that may get better or may die. It’s not something you say about something doing well.

Why can’t you just come right out & say to your voters “please get vaccinated today, it’s safe and effective” that’s all – just keep saying that everyday. Maybe make a trip (like the one to Branson or Liberty or Kearney but talk about vaccines. That is how you serve your voters.

It would actually be a more effective PR strategy to just help people instead of ignoring the problem. Just saying.

Keep telling yourself that.

Is this the opening line of your stand-up act, Gomer? Because it’s the best joke I’ve heard all day.

Mike ignored not just science but math, so #Missouri has taken a bath as his new cases soar. Of the toll he lost score in the face of the variant’s wrath but he keeps his head stuck in the sand, now and then at events to grandstand. [….]

Who says?

Totally normal thing to say when things are going well

When you have to send patients hours away to hospitals in larger cities that is not a stable healthcare system for rural Missourians. The elected GOP in this state have failed their constituents by politicizing a virus that is causing their voters harm.

Parson must be back at the family farm this weekend, because he is shoveling some bullsh*t this morning.

Sure sure. Stable as in the infection rates are going UP.
#GOPDeathCult #DeputyDawg
[….]

Hospitals are turning away covid patients. @GovParsonMO is incompetent.

You know nothing about the stability of our health care system. You’re too busy with photo ops and propaganda. [….]

You mean what we’re seeing with our own eyes is not what we’re seeing?? Your COVID-19 leadership = callous indifference to human life.

If you are going to continue to lie why not say this:

Trump made you a big beautiful vaccine. The most beautiful vaccine. A special one just for MAGA. So come get the bigliest beautiful vaccine. Only for you, his special ones.

Our state government is an international joke

Repeating lies does not change the facts.

Missouri’s health care systems, especially in rural communities that listen to you and your party over professionals and science, are strained nearly to breaking.

You did nothing to promote the vaccine! NOTHING. And now the Delta variant has become the dominant strand in Missouri. You have blood on your hands.

As is the rise in COVID hospitalizations in your state.

Intubate much?

Right, and you’re a very stable genius.

You’re in denial.

Not even close, thanks to your incompetence. [….]

Had a woman tell me the vaccine is poison. I’m assuming these are the kind of people that voted for you. We are the laughing stock of the country. It’s you’re inability to lead that’s getting people sick here.

Excuse me, Governor—what the f&@k does that mean, exactly? And by the way, if you had the courage to push vaccines as a remedy to the pandemic (instead of the “availability” of vaccines), maybe you wouldn’t need to comment on the “stability” of the health care system.

Don’t you want MORE for Missouri than merely “stable” (your word)? Don’t you want Missouri citizens’ health THRIVING? “Stable” sounds like you’re totally fine with people getting sick and dying.
Why not put a little effort into getting shots in arms? You’re a terrible governor.

People die, but the system is in good shape. You’re a weird dude, Parson. Not running again, yet you are such a coward and somehow proud of being a national embarrassment.

You’re negligent.

Get the fuck out of office & let someone competent take over.

LOL what are you talking about? How can the GOVERNOR be so out of touch with the realities of his own state?

Or are you a shameless liar?

Yes.

Our state is #1 in the nation for per capita covid cases, only 39% are vaccinated, our death rate is raising, and our state has been declared the least safe state during the pandemic. We are failing under your leadership and you are out on a Bicentennial tour. Kindly fuck off

If you haven’t already done so, get vaccinated.

Governor Mike Parson (r) [2019 file photo].

Don’t be like Mike.

Wear your damn mask.
