A tip of the hat to Nelson Muntz.

This morning:

Rep. Vicky Hartzler @RepHartzler
On the desk this morning:
[….]
8:41 AM · Feb 6, 2020

And, as usual, there is much hilarity in the responses:

And around your neck (like an albatross) in November.[….]

The saddest thing is your glee. It shows a complete lack of respect for a significant portion of your constituents. This is the very definition of partisanship. Your hypocrisy knows no bounds much like the President’s respect for the law.

“Acquitted” doesn’t always mean “innocent.”

You may be ok with potus soliciting foreign help in upcoming election and withholding congressional approved aid to try and get said help, but WE THE PEOPLE are not ok with it.
#FireVicky
#CorruptGOP

Orange God will be happy you shirked your duty. #GOPtrumpSycophants

Save those! The Trump Crime Syndicate can use them as blankets in their jail cells once Daddy Don is out of office here soon.

Oh wow, it sure is impressive that a slim majority of senators, all from the president’s own party, decided against removing him from office. What an accomplishment.

Good reminder that senate republicans failed to do their jobs and uphold their pledge to be impartial jurors.

Also, in every history book…

I enjoy giving money to the strong, smart, principled lady who will take your office from you. Enjoy it while it lasts. You’ll actually have to work for that seat next time

Political fear is a strong thing!

Republicans worship a man above the constitution. Republicans are corrupt af. Don’t be like republicans. #VoteBlueToSaveAmerica

Also from the WP (on your desk) The WH is now sending around anti-Romney talking points, including:
•Romney’s decision was unsurprising as this display of self-serving political expedience has come to define his career.
•Romney has a long history of flip-flopping.

It was a fake trial, resulting in a fake acquittal. Valueless, really. I’m voting for @LynzforCongress to get someone who understands the law.

#impeachedforever

Cult of Trump

Still IMPEACHED!

That you are proud of this is profoundly sad

A travesty. I hope you will be held accountable for the part you played.

And still guilty.

In the trash this morning…

Yes, Vicky, your tribe won. America lost.

I question your understanding of the events ma’am. You seem to be celebrating a party and president who was impeached and will remain forever impeached. Acquittal was publicly assured before the articles found their way to the Senate. This should embarrass you and the GOP.

Not surprising, when you have a fixed jury.

Good people don’t defend a bad person. You are not a good person

Vicky thinks it’s appropriate for a sitting president to use congressionally allocated aid as leverage to a coerce a FOREIGN GOVERNMENT into interfering in a US election for his benefit.

Vicky is unAmerican.

Remember, ‘Not Guilty’ is not the same as ‘Innocent’. It means the case wasn’t proved beyond a reasonable doubt, not that the accused didn’t do it. There just wasn’t enough evidence to warrant a conviction. And, how do you think that happened?

Uh, they refused to look at any evidence? Just spitballing here…

I can see you doing high kicks cheering on dear leader as he starts extorting more countries to meddle in our elections. But this means you get a few more farm subsidy checks! Congrats!

#ForeverImpeached. And he set a new record. The greatest bipartisan vote for conviction and removal in our history. What a winner you are kowtowing to, ya coward.

I thought the media was fake and against our dear leader?

How are you not sick of Trump’s behavior?

And you are okay with this? Why are you supporting such a vile, incompetent, hateful, lawless person? Seriously, as a constituent and business owner in your district, I am ashamed of the “leadership” in this country. It is disgraceful.

Shame on your party for doing this to America. I hope you are voted out.

This is not a good thing, Vicky. Uphold the constitution or we’ll find someone who will.

Hey Hartzler! President Trump: “I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong. Nor do I like people who say ‘I pray for you’ when they know that that’s not so. So many people have been hurt and we can’t let that go on.”

It all depends on whose ox is being gored, eh?

Don’t be a partisan hack. Don’t be Vicky.

It’s in her nature.

Yesterday, from a republican:

Romney Delivers Remarks on Impeachment Vote
Wednesday, February 5, 2020

….This verdict is ours to render. The people will judge us for how well and faithfully we fulfilled our duty. The grave question the Constitution tasks senators to answer is whether the President committed an act so extreme and egregious that it rises to the level of a “high crime and misdemeanor.”

Yes, he did.

The President asked a foreign government to investigate his political rival.

The President withheld vital military funds from that government to press it to do so.

The President delayed funds for an American ally at war with Russian invaders.

The President’s purpose was personal and political.

Accordingly, the President is guilty of an appalling abuse of the public trust.

What he did was not “perfect”— No, it was a flagrant assault on our electoral rights, our national security interests, and our fundamental values. Corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one’s oath of office that I can imagine….

Well, then.

Vicky Hartzler (r) [2016 file photo].

Yesterday afternoon:

Rep. Vicky Hartzler @RepHartzler
Not guilty.
3:22 PM · Feb 5, 2020

As usual, there is much hilarity in the response:

#AmericansFindTrumpGuilty NOT EXONERATED #GOPCoverup

The president and his staffed admitted to the crimes publicly.

Acquitted but admitted guilty.

Guilty as sin by his own admissions. Ever the sycophant.

Of course, we all know he is though, don’t we? Any additional crimes are on you.

donating to your opponent. have a nice day.

I like presidents who haven’t been impeached.

Trump? He’s guilty as hell. The Bidens, not guilty but Trump got exactly what he wanted out of this charade- dirtying a good man’s reputation.

You can’t be “not guilty” when your trial doesn’t consist of witnesses or evidence.

History will remember this treachery and abdication of constitutional duty

He’s guilty and you know it.

Vicky hartzler is a joke

#ForeverImpeached Acquitted, not exonerated.

That’s not what that guy you all voted for 8 years ago says.

Shame on you!

Not guilty is not the same as innocent. It simply means they fear Trump more than the voters and history. We all know the man is guilty as hell.

Still impeached and an awful man. And you’re complicit.

The republic has failed

Not exonerated

Oh, Vicky, he’s guilty all right.

Rigged jury.

Still impeached. Forever!

Complicit in the cover up. Yes you are.

It’s incredible anyone can say that with a straight face. You don’t want him gone… bc you like who and what he is. Gross but ok. But his guilt isn’t even in question. He obviously did that shit.

Sure let’s act like it was a fair trial. Let’s pretend republicans weren’t bias in this trial. Let’s pretend the republicans didn’t block witnesses from testifying. You are seriously so stupid. Go represent the great state of Kansas and get out of Missouri.

Oh, the Orange Menace is guilty. You just don’t have the moral courage to do anything about it.

He is clearly Guilty! And you are also guilty of a cover-up!

As it should be, Way to go Senate, except for Romney (Traitor)

It starts.

So you think it’s appropriate for a sitting president to use congressionally appropriated aid as leverage to coerce a FOREIGN GOVERNMENT into interfering in a US election to his benefit?

REALLY?

And Mitt Romney is the traitor? Give me a break…

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…

Some of the responses:

Ok. Where is your proposal to protect people with pre-existing conditions?

Trumps in court right now to remove that, so Senator Joke Hawley won’t go against his party. America be damned, Hawleys gonna kiss him some orange trumpy ass. #HawleysATraitor

Get your mouth off the President’s ass and grow a backbone.

How dare you disrespect a wounded vetran. You have every right to disagree with anyone but ni right to disrespect them this is not one of you housewives reality shows stop your trash talk

Uh…

Blah Blah ….

If you want to end the “cycle of bitterness” then stop using terms like “The Dems”.

What foreign nations are you going to use for your next campaign?

…umm…the people’s priorities were that you call witnesses. You blew off our priorities, pal.

P. S. It’s galling that you say “it’s time to end this cycle” while you yourself perpetuate it.

Might want to drop a note to the #ImpeachedPresident about your *concerns* .

That would be great! Does this mean you’re going to stop trying to belittle the other side of the aisle in your tweets and host some town halls to share a vision of unity and progress with your constituents?

How do you know what the people’s priorities are when you never meet with your constituents?

Can you list my priorities? I am your constituent. Hint…you’re suing to take away one of them.

I listened to Senator Romney and I listened to you. Enough said.

And…you could have begun listening to the American people by voting to allow the witnesses that 75% of Americans were asking for. You clearly only care about listening to a certain demographic.

ROMNEY: “Were I to ignore the evidence that has been presented and disregard what I believe my oath and the constitution demands of me for the sake of a partisan end, it would, I fear, expose my character to history’s rebuke and the censor of my own conscience.”

Watch Mitt’s speech and the way he voted.
How craven you are.

I, too, wish to turn to the future of voting you out of office for this embarrassing behavior.

#sycophantsenator

I believe this will be possible when Trump is no longer dividing our nation.

You, sir, are not worthy of being in the same room with #MittRomney.

Our priorities are having a president who obeys the law and does not lie about literally everything.

We can’t rebuild if you allow our president to deconstruct our society piece by piece. He shows he really doesn’t care about us in his recent tweet saying the Chiefs were in KS!! Seriously! He doesn’t care! He is all show and no knowledge! Unfit! and you will be too!

you mean #trump’s base….. everybody else you say is the enemy

From the dude that is trying like hell to get rid of safeguards for preexisting conditions

He literally said to a reporter after a townhall, “I believe insurance companies should be able to charge more for preexisting conditions.”

𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯’𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦. 𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘪𝘥, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴.

And you’re in the loop…

coward

Romney made you look small.

You are trying to take away people’s ACA healthcare.

Hack.

Respectfully, eat turds, man.

So, what ladder are you going to try to climb next? Aiming to be the next #MoscowMitch?

Ok then!! How about holding town halls? With “the people”? Hahahahaha Right!!!!! It’d be nice, wouldn’t it? Oh well, maybe we could be rich lobbyists and get a meeting!!!

Coward.

I have no interest is anything you have to say…you deny the truth and therefore I can’t trust you.

Congratulations on the cover up! And thanks for letting your constituents not hear all of the evidence. Thanks for never working with us too, BTW!! Well done. I can’t wait to see what Trump will get away with next because he’s totally above the law! Wish I could be that. GFY.

I’ll remember your vote on this. You’ll never get my vote again.

ALL of the people Josh? Or just the ones whose backs you use to climb the ladder?

Come to MO and hold a town hall with your constituents…blue and red, and we shall see how true this Tweet was.

It seems treason does pay.

If you were actually listening to the American people, like you claim, you would have voted for witnesses and evidence. 75% of the American people you say you represent wanted to see witnesses…

What are you afraid of?

You couldn’t find the truth if it was water and you fell out of a boat. Resign.

You have shown clearly that your priority is not the American people. Resign you partisan hack.

are you a senator or a late night televangelist?

Are you kidding? @realDonaldTrump is the KING of bitterness@and revenge. #delusional #AliceinWonderland #VoteBlueNoMatterWho2020

“people’s priorities” from one of the most notorious DARK MONEY beneficiaries of all time

a man is truly dangerous when he believes his own BULLSHIT

Mr. Hawley the state of Missouri and the people of the United States will hold you accountable for your vote. Trump is guilty and you know it. You’re not gonna tell me that you are so naive that you can’t see that for yourself. Wake up..

Your words are meaningless. You work for special interests and your own selfish political ambitions.

The people want the truth. You blocked witnesses.

Fake much? You are so transparent. You could care less about anything but your own political career. I guess you are if the Lindsey Graham school. You know the ones that would sell their mothers to stay in power. Can’t wait to vote you out

Can you imagine what we could do if we didn’t have a president that with every turn endangers are republic and the future of our country. You can ONLY imagine and that’s the problem. Shame on you #GOPCowards

Won’t happen because Republicans are allowing a criminal to forever taint our elections!! When this is said and done Trump will be more emboldened to lie and cheat! Hope you’re proud you have helped destroy democracy in this country!!!!

Dishonoring your oath and bringing more bad repute to a failing institution isn’t the way forward.

You freakin Trump toadie!

You don’t answer letters in a timely fashion, your staffers don’t answer the phone, you don’t hold town halls. You are all that the Republican Party represents: Bullshit, Gaslighting, and Mediocrity.
Resign!

You don’t know what the people’s priorities are.

You put party before country and made it easier for future presidents to abuse their power. Shame on you

You know what would help end the cycle of bitterness & payback? Actual consequences for lawbreaking. Rule of law. Concern about the Constitution.

Sweeping crime and corruption under the rug because it was done by _your_ asshole isn’t a road to reconciliation.

Senator, for too long the GOP has played nice with the opposition. Now, we have a coup de etat on our hands, Bolsheviks as serious presidential contenders, and a violent Brownshirt wing of the democrat party. I think the gloves need to come off.

Ooh, a Fascist.

It’s time to shut the fuck up, Joke Hawley, because you don’t listen to the American People. Why in the fuck do we need to hear the bullshit coming out of your mouth? #GOPBetrayedAmerica #Traitor #HawleysLyingAgain

You’re a complete asslicking idiot, eat shit!

Fuck off.

Hard to rebuild our great national life together when your party likes to do crime-ing and obstructing. Hard to rebuild when your Dear Leader elevates a racist blowhard over a Tuskegee Airman at the SOTU. Hard to rebuild when you’re up the president’s ass as much as you are

You are a slack-jawed, spineless, gutless coward.

You utter coward.

Eff you, pig!

The people’s priorities were hearing the witnesses, you sniveling little sycophant.

Not a particularly strong group of ringing endorsements, eh.

Uh, the U.S. Senate hasn’t voted yet. Literally.

Jason Smith (r) represents Missouri’s 8th District in the United States Congress. He has priorities.

Missouri’s 8th Congressional District:

Missouri 2908
Congressional District 8

People Below Poverty – 142,608
People Below Poverty – percent – 20.1%
People Below 185% of Poverty – 295,331
People Below 185% of Poverty – percent 41.7%

Children Below Poverty – 44,546
Children Below Poverty – percent – 27.7%
Children Below 185% of Poverty – 86,053
Children Below 185% of Poverty – percent 53.5%

Yesterday, a priority from Representative Jason Smith (r):

Rep. Jason Smith @RepJasonSmith
Dear Nancy,

Thanks for wasting five months of our lives.

Very insincerely,
Literally everyone
6:45 PM · Feb 1, 2020

You think he gets the insincere part, too? Nah. Some people never get out of junior high school.

There was much hilarity in the responses:

I’ll never forget how you supported the criminal President. It will haunt you when everything comes out.

Apparently, also, someone named “Kurt Rusel” is some kind of self-described constitutional scholar or something.

I think Missouri deserves a representative that does not dwell in a hyperbolic world and focused on the real world issues of Missouri and US . . .

It would be nice if he also understood what”literally” means.

These are not the comments of a leader. You’re failing MO. I’m planning to vote for @ellis4congress!

Kathy Ellis (D) [2020 file photo].

Dear Jason,

Thanks for proving you’re as corrupt as the rest of them.

Resign,
Literally everyone

Actually, not everyone. Including many you represent.

You’re a disappointment.

Dear Jason,

You have yet to hold a town hall.

Sincerely,
Everyone

Do you read the responses to your tweets? Does your family? Does anyone? I’m guessing not because you are somehow not picking up what people are laying down.

Exposing a Republican Senate as rejecting their Constitutional responsibility and embracing an aspiring dictator was time well spent. It showed the American people how easily democracy can be corrupted.

There’s that.

It’s not like you were doing anything else

No. Thank YOU for wasting a seat in Congress.

Unconstitutional Conservative

There, fixed it for you.

Very sincerely,
The dying Republican Party

Agree with you: we should be grateful for Nancy and the Democrats representing the majority of Americans, to have impeached Trump (forever) and exposed the republican’s corruption and betrayal of the constitution. You’ll check the bill in November.

A U. S. Congressman who literally doesn’t understand the meaning of the word “literally”. Great.

Dear Jason,
Remember Benghazi?
Literally, Everyone

Wow you’re so funny. Maybe you should tour with that funny Huckabee fella.
On a more serious note, you can’t resist sucking up to trump, every chance you get. You are a fraud and it will all catch up to you.

Dear Jason,

Thanks for not caring about defending the Constitution of the U.S.

Sincerely,
Everyone
#impeachment

I can see how defending the constitution is baffling to you. Your entire party is corrupt. Cheat, lie, steal. Everyone connected to that mobster is dirty.
#DirtyGOP #CorruptGOP #ShamTrial #NotExonerated

Dear Smith,
Senate Republicans literally denied hearing all witnesses and relevant information. Are their limits to corruption?
#2020Elections

Dear Mr. Smith,

Thanks for letting us all know that you are on the wrong side of history

Sincerely,
A voter.

P.s. signing a letter with “insincerity” is antithetical to your point and is behavior unbecoming a US representative.

We noticed that, too.

You are a joke.

Literally? Jason, do you know what “literally” even means?

Dear Jason,
Thanks for the #CorruptGOP not upholding their oaths of office, their abdication of duties fully known by 75% of Americans.
Signed
#VoteBlueToSaveAmerica

Not this one…you don’t speak for everyone you egotistical maniac, not even close.

You are a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Trying to save our constitution is not a waste of time. Apparently that Rep in front of your name doesn’t necessarily mean you have a brain.

Very classy! Reinforced as an idiot

Except for 75% of the country bigot #GOPCoverup

When are you folks going to bring us together ? You will lose the next presidential election so drink up now buddy because it’s all going to change bye-bye.
75% of the country wanted witnesses which country do you live in? Russia? Good lord Jesus is watching your dumb ass.

“…A Fascist kakistocracy, if you can keep it.”

He’s “disappointed”?:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
I am disappointed we were not able to vote to acquit @realDonaldTrump tonight – but I look forward to casting that vote next week, and ending this bitter, partisan circus
7:06 PM · Jan 31, 2020

Says the partisan hack and sycophant who can’t be bothered to hear witnesses.

It’s so cute that the junior senator from Missouri thinks it’s over.

Some of the comments:

Just think about all the times you get to go on Fox and talk about how pressuring an ally to investigate a political opponent and withholding crucial information and witnesses are not an impeachable offense. After all, if the President does it, it’s not impeachable.

“The most dangerous place to stand in Washington D.C. is any place between Senator Josh Hawley and a live microphone” – Charles P. Pierce

Impeached forever. No exoneration. The Dems should impeach him again on new charges.

Imagine hitching your wagon to Donald Trump (r) and believing he won’t do the same shit, eh Josh?

Voting for ending free, fair elections so Donald Trump can select himself president like Vladimir Putin does.
Sounds like you expect a patronage position as an American Oligarch out of the deal to vote for acquittal.

I believe your side has the elephants and the clowns.

Your party wants to do it Soviet style – pre determined outcome, attained with no witnesses or evidence. Not one scrap of paper. That does not exonerate DT – he is impeached forever.

In similar fashion, we’re disappointed in you.

To put it mildly.

You also refused to hear all the evidence. I think that’s sad for a former attorney general. Or anyone for that matter.

I’m completely disappointed that I even voted for you. #HawleyHidesTheTruth

It’s only partisan because you choose to be complicit instead of honoring your oath of office

I’m disappointed that you’re my senator. You have abandoned the constitution and your nation in your furvor to acquire more power for your party at the expense of this country and your dignity.

So disappointed you weren’t able to legalize bribery and obstruction?

The only reason it was partisan was because one side decided to double down on the cover up.

You violated your oath of office. Plain & simple.

i am so disappointed someone in your position isn’t taking this extra time reviewing the materials presented to them and seriously, IMPARTIALLY coming to a conclusion they keep to themselves until voting
#RIPAmerica #RIPGOP

You’ll never actually be able to acquit because you never actually held a trial. You just let him off like good puppets.

Although you’ll vote for acquittal, he’s guilty and you all know it.

Again, I ask; how did it feel to recite the pledge of allegiance, only to turn around and shred the Constitution?
The circus is nothing compared to the crimes that will come to light. We will not forget. History will revile you, toady.

Well, okay, the first one is a little poem written for children by a socialist minister in the early 1890s, the other is the governing document of the United States of America and is apparently no longer operative.

Look at that!

We have a Senator from Missouri showing he has no intentions of being an impartial juror.

Too bad his seat isn’t up until 2024.

Yes you would take joy in acquitting a criminal and not listening to the people who pay your salary.
@GOP knows trump should be impeached and removed. 75% of Americans know how a trial is supposed to work!
@GOP do not want the American People to hear from witnesses! #GOPCowards

What was your soul worth?

I’ve lost all respect for that darn GOP
And it’s not just because we so rarely agree
It’s their lies and deceit
How they shamelessly cheat
That’s distasteful, disgraceful, disgusting to me

Can’t aquit with a sham trial. 80% wanted witnesses. Only little people have to follow the law.

I’m embarrassed to be represented by you.

The democrats just don’t get it do they? They cannot accept election results unless they win and when they don’t we’re going to have continuous temper tantrums because they didn’t get their way.

Projection doesn’t just happen in movie theaters.

We appreciate that you support President @realDonaldTrump, it’s painful to see this disgusting trial go on another day. Hasn’t he been put through enough?

And, wait for it:

No

Gives you plenty of time to shine his shoes.

Problematic if you can’t tell shit from Shinola.

You mean you look forward to licking the boots of a corrupt dictator as you abandon any pretense of working for anyone but him. And the Kremlin.

Okay, not Shinola.

The American people are disappointed in you and the 50 other senators that are perpetrating a cover up. What kind of trial doesn’t have witnesses and documents? You are proving just how corrupt our government is and how much of a need there is for us to rise up against it.

tRump is IMPEACHED for life, even if he is acquitted in the Senate. He will still go down is history as being impeached. As @MickMulvaneyOMB would say “Get over it”.
#GOPCowards

We at least still got the victory knowing he will be acquitted.

“Knowing,” as in pre-ordained? How extra-constitutional. [see also: Pyrrhic]

With all due respect…you might be watching alternative news too much.

I understand your hurry. After all, the truth might come out.

The bitterness will not end with your gift to Putin and transnational crime, I guarantee you that.

“Россия” (Russia) – a variant of the Russian presidential flag.

I look forward to your next chapter in life when you’re voted out of the senate….

Partisan?!The majority of THE PEOPLE would like to hear witnesses.Have this be a true trial. Not the us vs them crap that you and other sycophants are parroting to save your rears.Wholly unbelievable.History won’t be kind to you Josh. The damage will be irreparable.#RIPAmerica

You and your Impeached Leader, enjoy it while you can. Tick, Tock.

If you think Trump’s troubles will end just because 51 sycophants and scaredy-cats cast a vote, think again

53, actually.

I can’t believe ANYONE agreed to leave this Trial open while the Democrats, as they are admitting, want more witnesses and to continue digging. 49 / 51

That is absolutely outragous!

#WeThePeople want you ALL too Get Back to WORK!

That’s so cute. They think that #MoscowMitch keeps the U.S. Senate working.

Its what will happen this week that concerns me.

Well, we are talking about Donald Trump (r) here.

Like it or not – you’re still an irrelevant nobody and no matter how much you kiss Trump’s behind you can bet he’d throw you under the bus in a minute.

Well, we are talking about Donald Trump (r) here.

Let’s hope, Senator Hawley, that you’ll do your part to end the partisan behavior. That means you’ll have to seek common ground and find compromises.

What color is the sky in their world?

If only there was a way you could have made it non-partisan, like actually listening to witnesses, looking at evidence and DOING YOUR DAMNED JOB.

Do you think, like Senator Alexander, that Trump did what Schiff said, but it wasn’t impeachable? Or do you think Trump’s call was perfect?

We could ask, if Josh Hawley (r) ever held open public town halls in Missouri.

Josh doesn’t think. At least not for himself.

He proved he’s just another GOP hack this week.

#GOPCorruptionOverCountry

I’m disappointed to see the GOP continue to put party over country, constituents, and Constitution. The corrupt must be very deep and very wide. #ShamTrial #TruthMattersRightMatters

Follow the money.

Rush to judgement to decide without even considering all the evidence, witnesses. What a shameful exercise.
#SenateGOPCoverup

I could not be more embarrassed of my elected senators right now. Cowards, both of you. This is a fake trial and there will be a fake acquittal.

He may be acquitted in a few days, but he’ll never be exonerated.

This tweet won’t age well. You’ll see it again at election time.

Frame that, and put it up on your wall.

This tweet will come back to haunt you. Get ready. And yeah, history has its eyes on you. So do millions of thoughtful, thinking people everywhere. Craven sycophancy isn’t a good look; nor is shredding the Constitution.

Donnie was impeached…forever and lost the popular vote. You went against the American public too, we wanted witnesses (if just one could have cleared Donnie we would have seen them=this means YOU know he is guilty and don’t care)

Well, at least this gives you the weekend to find a nice scepter and crown for his majesty.

This afternoon:

Trump’s lead attorney in the impeachment trial could also be a witness, according to Bolton’s book
John Haltiwanger
…Cipollone was at this meeting, the manuscript said, suggesting he witnessed Trump order a top adviser to get involved in the coordinated effort to pressure Ukraine. This raises ethical questions about whether it was appropriate for Cipollone to lead Trump’s defense in a trial pertaining to matters he’s said to have firsthand knowledge of…

Claire McCaskill @clairecmc
1) Bolton is telling the truth
2) Cipollone was in the meeting
3) Cipollone is a fact witness and has misled the tribunal
4) Cipollone has violated the ABA Rules of Professionall Conduct
5) Cipollone should be disciplined by the Bar and potentially lose his bar license.

Hopeless sycophant.

Josh Hawley (r) [2016 file photo].

Last night:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
As their case unravels, today Dems gave us a tour of leftwing conspiracy theories. Schiff said @realDonaldTrump stole 2016 election, said Trump has rigged 2020, berated senators for questions he didn’t like, & repeatedly used the word “coup.” They’ve lost it. Let’s vote
9:58 PM · Jan 30, 2020

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People aren’t buying it. Some of the comments:

Josh, you aren’t fit to carry Adam Schiff’s briefcase.

I thought Adam Schiff was remarkable. You could only wish to be half the man/lawyer/Senator that he is!!!!

Ashamed of you, Senator.

I loathe the premise of you being a senator, much less one from my state.

I am ashamed that you represent me.

The American people want witnesses. You work for us. Do your job.

How can a case unravel if you can’t even bring in witnesses to assess the facts? You’re a bad lawyer and a worse senator.

this is the death by suicide of the republican party that we are witnessing. No longer can there be any respect for republicans’ stances, deplorable display! -from a voting republican.

GOP doesn’t believe in the truth or the rule of law or the constitution. A trial without witnesses is a sham. GOP dishonors our country with their cowardice. They now own all of the President’s crimes and corruption. Vote them all out.

history will record your shittiness in this crucial moment for our nation, senator.

Ridiculous Josh. You cant have a trial, especially one against a president, without witnesses or evidence. I’ll remember your actions in 2022.

You choose to be blind to the facts that show your president is deserving of removal. There is no gray area here, it’s right versus wrong and you know it. We won’t forget this betrayal to the Constitution and the people you represent. #OneTermJosh

You’re the dishonest one, Josh. This constituent will not forget your shameful behavior. I’m only sad that I have to wait so long before I can vote against you

The White House ignored all the subpoenas and obstructed Congress
Please do your job!

Josh sit down

It’s in his nature.

“The most dangerous place to stand in Washington D.C. is any place between Senator Josh Hawley and a live microphone” – Charles P. Pierce

Around 3/4 of Americans think that you should hear from witnesses at this trial. Do your job.

Josh equates the oath he took to some graffiti near a bar urinal

COWARD.

I don’t think it would be humanly possible for someone to suck as much as you do Josh.

Senate Republicans will be remembered for continuing Trump’s obstruction in admitting no documents or evidence.

Their case was fine. The final nail in the country’s coffin was when Senator Alexander admitted they proved their case without the need for witnesses but that being completely corrupt and tampering with elections is now ok. The case was airtight; our country’s soul was leaking.

Hack.

Cool story, bro. Needs more dragons and shit.

The coup is trump’s, he has hijacked the Constitution. I am so ashamed of you.

The first senate trial with no witnesses. Sham.

Your legacy is sealed and it is not good.

Quisling says what?

Apparently, you don’t even acknowledge letters, phone calls, and replies to your tweets, demanding witnesses and a fair trial.

You’re only performing for the audience of one, Trump, by tagging him in your tweets.

There’s that.

And Josh Hawley gives us a tour of the GOP-issued talking points that show the GOP coverup.

GOP is now totally the party of grifters and corruption.

Josh, what’s it feel like to be the answer to the question, “What if Trump, but more weasel-like?”

Okay.

You’re a smug one-term Senator who has decided to be a tyrant’s accomplice.
Shame on you for supporting corruption over democracy and country.
By standing with Trump, you are committing political suicide.
The people will remember your choice.

You are a coward and I question your ability as an attorney. An attorney who doesn’t call witnesses. #OneTermJosh

“…he went to Yale, I think, or Harvard, one of those, one of those fancy ones…”

Heh.

Wow, you’re a full on Trumpist. Do you ever think about the harm President Trump has done to your party? Do you think your party will be able to survive after the cancerous Trumpism that has infected every level of it?

They have a lot of money.

Bolton says he has relevant info

Republicans have decried lack of witnesses

Why have your balls shrunk so quickly?

We don’t have a photo for that.

What’s it like to be a complete moron every day?

Heh. Maroon.

How is abusing presidential power to get a foreign country to make up fake investigations not rigging an election?

How is lying to the American people about illegal Russian election interference *in the middle of an election* acceptable conduct by a president?

Their case didn’t unravel, you and the rest of the Republicans simply decided you are happy with a president seeking foreign interference in our elections.

Coward

What an insult to your voters that you think they are dumb enough to fall for this brazen lie

“ A civilization is not destroyed by wicked by wicked people. It is not necessary that they be wicked, only that they be spineless.” The current GOP whose historical legacy will be trash. You did your country no good service.#VoteBlueToSaveAmerica

No, wicked people are doing their part.

You’re a lawyer???

That’s what we thought. “…he went to Yale, I think, or Harvard, one of those, one of those fancy ones…”

You’re too stupid to understand, Josh. But you’re right about voting, at least. Voters will have quite a lot to say.

You are such an incredibly poor excuse for an elected official. You’ve completely given up your country to protect your dear leader. How are you going explain this to your children?

Your constituents can see how fake you are and we will work harder than ever to ensure you don’t get a senate seat again. Your lack of values and integrity will haunt you.

You’re a hack. Pander on, #senatorflatbed

Voters remember.

The Ivy League vision of a flatbed truck.

The current Republican senators are a disgrace to what the Republican party is supposed to be. You have driven hundreds of thousands of people away from the party. You will find out in November that you have destroyed the Republican party..

The case didn’t unravel. You are covering for a corrupt president and there are many of us in Missouri that won’t forget your cowardice and lack of impartiality in this process.

One or the other. It can’t be both.

Lamar Alexander (r):

Alexander Statement on Impeachment Witness Vote
Posted on January 30, 2020
[….]
Washington, D.C., January 30, 2020 — United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote regarding additional evidence in the impeachment proceedings:
“I worked with other senators to make sure that we have the right to ask for more documents and witnesses, but there is no need for more evidence to prove something that has already been proven and that does not meet the United States Constitution’s high bar for an impeachable offense.
“There is no need for more evidence to prove that the president asked Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter; he said this on television on October 3, 2019, and during his July 25, 2019, telephone call with the president of Ukraine. There is no need for more evidence to conclude that the president withheld United States aid, at least in part, to pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens; the House managers have proved this with what they call a ‘mountain of overwhelming evidence.’ There is no need to consider further the frivolous second article of impeachment that would remove the president for asserting his constitutional prerogative to protect confidential conversations with his close advisers.
“It was inappropriate for the president to ask a foreign leader to investigate his political opponent and to withhold United States aid to encourage that investigation. When elected officials inappropriately interfere with such investigations, it undermines the principle of equal justice under the law. But the Constitution does not give the Senate the power to remove the president from office and ban him from this year’s ballot simply for actions that are inappropriate.
“The question then is not whether the president did it, but whether the United States Senate or the American people should decide what to do about what he did. I believe that the Constitution provides that the people should make that decision in the presidential election that begins in Iowa on Monday.
“The Senate has spent nine long days considering this ‘mountain’ of evidence, the arguments of the House managers and the president’s lawyers, their answers to senators’ questions and the House record. Even if the House charges were true, they do not meet the Constitution’s ‘treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors’ standard for an impeachable offense.
“The framers believed that there should never, ever be a partisan impeachment. That is why the Constitution requires a 2/3 vote of the Senate for conviction. Yet not one House Republican voted for these articles. If this shallow, hurried and wholly partisan impeachment were to succeed, it would rip the country apart, pouring gasoline on the fire of cultural divisions that already exist. It would create the weapon of perpetual impeachment to be used against future presidents whenever the House of Representatives is of a different political party.
“Our founding documents provide for duly elected presidents who serve with ‘the consent of the governed,’ not at the pleasure of the United States Congress. Let the people decide.”

Sen. Roy Blunt (r): You want to try those lines at an open public town hall in Missouri?

Probability approaching zero.

Roy Blunt (r) [2016 file photo].

Today, from Roy Blunt (r):

Senator Roy Blunt @RoyBlunt
House Democrats can’t bring a half-baked case to the Senate and expect us to make something of it. These are two of the weakest articles of impeachment you could possibly have.
[….]
10:52 AM · Jan 30, 2020

There was much hilarity in the comments:

So why don’t you allow witnesses to debunk their case? What should we not hear from the national security advisor Bolton under oath?

Then that just means you’re willing to sell your soul for a very low price, Rubles Roy.

82% of the public demand witnesses. We won’t be quiet about it.

I am your constituent, and I want witnesses. In fact, 75% of Americans want witnesses. You know who doesn’t? Trump. Innocent people want eye witnesses to clear their name. The guilty want them gagged.

Witnesses Roy. Your constituents are demanding witnesses! Why are you ignoring your constituents?

You have to wave a fistful of $100 bills to get Roy’s attention.

It’s really pretty simple, Roy. You, Josh, and Donnie think its okay for the POTUS to have a foreign country (widely seen as corrupt) to interfere in US elections and to investigate American citizens. Hope that Helps. We’ll remember you in 2022. [….]

I saw that you got a shout out from Trump yesterday. Good for you. And all you had to do was lick his testicles.

There’s not enough bleach in the world.

Good Ol’ Cash n’ Carry Blunt, the perfect lackey for Trump and Moscow Mitch. He can’t carry an honest tune but he warbles like a canary to make his masters happy. Blunt is bad for Missouri, bad for the nation.

Of course! Deny them access to the relevant information/testimony then cite lack of relevant information/testimony as justification for a glaringly obvious, partisan conclusion.

It’s not a trial if there aren’t witnesses

You corrupt, covering up sycophant. Those who cover up crimes are criminals too. I am a constituent and I will do everything in my power to see you voted out.

I want to hear from the witnesses! This president must not be allowed to be a dictator!

Call witnesses and let America decide then.
#CallTheWitnesses

Roy Blunt has chosen to work to protect trump 24/7 over working for MO.He will spend the rest of trump’s Presidency working and lying for trump. Every day more will come out and new scandals and Roy will spend all of his time working to defend trump.
#CorruptGOP
#GOPCoverup

I disapprove of the job you are doing. I am your constituent.

Call the witness and vote to release the documents. Call for Trump to testify.
So you are going to vote no on both to spite the House Democrats? The majority of Americans want to hear the witnesses. You represent the people of Missouri. Not Trump

80 percent of Americans want to hear Bolton testify. This is a trial. All trials have witnesses. This what Americans want. Let Bolton testify!

It’s not half-baked when it’s all true and you’re unwilling or scared of Trump to do the right thing. Vote for witnesses and stop fucking around.

I have been on a jury. There were witness. There was evidence. Do you work for the people of Missouri or the President’s defense team? The President is accused of misusing our tax dollars. Why don’t you want to know the truth? #ShowMeWitnesses

Think of it this way: Trump has been impeached. A healthy majority think he abused power and obstructed Congress. The trial is about whether Republican Senators want to be accomplices. It is you who are on trial. #Coverup #ObstructionOfCongress #WeWantWitnesess
@senatemajldr

And you are the weakest Senator… sadly, I voted for you in 2016, but I can do something about that in 2022. Trust me, you vote to acquit and MO voters will remember !!

I am in your constituency and want witnesses and documents anything less is a coverup by you.

You’ve failed, Senator.

You’re planning to endorse illegally impounding military aid to a vulnerable ally to coerce them to announce a sham investigation to interfere in our elections and then deny congressional authority to investigate?

Sooo… you’re all in on unaccountable dictatorship, then.

Weaker than lying about a blow job? When 75% of Americans want witnesses, I guess that really doesn’t matter. Don’t worry, the truth is going to come out and you and your complicit and corrupt GOP ilk will be standing on the wrong side of history.

you’ve done your best to keep it impossible to bring the facts to light. But just remember, you’re setting precedent.

And the information is still going to come out. They can fool themselves into believing if they don’t allow Bolton to testify, they will have buried the evidence but that’s just not reality.

It’s shameful and the greatest betrayal that you are choosing to fight for a criminal to have unlimited and unchecked power instead of fighting for our sovereignty. What a disgrace.

So you do want witnesses in the Senate? Good to know! Let’s see you get on board with calling some to testify, Roy!

Sarcasm, eh.

Senator, you & fellow GOP senators are the real risk to democracy, not the corrupt & guilty President. When you vote to acquit, you destroy the ability of Congress to be a co-equal branch of govt and elevate Trump to King. #CorruptGOP

Yeah, except for all the times he and his staff admitted it. On television. In front of millions. Except for that, right, #RublesRoy?

You’re being delusional Senator Blunt. The evidence is there to support it, how can you sit back and allow this to happen? I mean if a democrat did half the stuff Trump has done you a the GOP would be screaming impeach or “lock her up”.

So calling out traitorous acts is half baked? Grow a spine, Roy. Do the right thing! #WeWantDocuments #WeWantWitness

How long do you think you’ll be able to get away with gaslighting the country?

You can’t participate in a whole sale coverup without consequences
Not only are the @SenateGOP choking the life out of a 243 year democracy, they have managed to mortally wound their own party.@GOP @HouseGOP @senatemajldr @GOPLeader

Putin is very proud of your loyalty to trump, Roy.

Trials have witnesses. Period. Anything else will be seen as a cover-up and Republicans will be remembered for it forever.

The State of Missouri deserves better. #CountryOverParty

Democracy is over in the United States. The Republicans have sold out the country to Trump and Putin. Democracy is over.

You’re embarrassing us, Roy. The only thing half-baked are the excuses the GOP keeps trying to run past us about why you’re going to acquit no matter what evidence you block to the contrary.

I don’t agree with your assessment. You have not been paying close attention to the facts. Witnesses and documents are needed regardless of which political party it helps.

Without witnesses you are participating in a cover-up.

And on and on.

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…
