You don’t have to have a passport to be a US citizen. When I renew my passport every ten years, that is an unnecessary hassle. Last time I drove to Hot Springs AR and got it done in one day. The Save Act cannot be a law and either Alford knows this, or he rightly should be shamed for this level of rank incompetence. In either case, it is an unforgivable breach of the public trust places in the seat that has been the voice of West Central Missouri for over 100 years.
Here are the facts:
In 2013, the Supreme court decided the case of Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc. (570 U.S. 1). In that ruling, Antonin Scalia wrote the majority opinion clarifying the Qualifications and the Elections clauses stating, and I quote:
​”The Elections Clause empowers Congress to regulate how federal elections are held, but not who may vote in them.”
And then, just to make sure you know, he backed it up with the hammer:
​”Prescribing voting qualifications is the ‘States’ exclusive prerogative’ under the Constitution.”
If Alford or any MAGA party leader was at all serious about this, they would be making the case with proof of illegitimate voting in the most recent elections where the MAGA party secured unified government control. They would then easily be able to get the 2/3 majority vote in both houses that a constitutional amendment requires.
Instead Alford is pushing this fantasy test-bill that would immediately be knocked down by the Supremes. And for what? It’s a fantasy that Alford and the entire MAGA party is wallowing in, and it’s frankly boring and pathetic.
