Eric Greitens., General Assembly, governor, HB 1558, missouri, revenge porn

Someone in the House side gallery quipped as this bill was brought up, “Ah, the Eric Greitens bill.”

On a corner of E. Capitol Avenue and Madison Street.

Late this afternoon the House took up a bill on the subject of “private sexual images”, making the unauthorized distribution of those images by another party a class D felony. This practice is also known as “revenge porn”.

The bill, back from the Senate, was handled on the House floor by Representative Jim Neely (R):

Representative Jim Neely (R) – on the floor of the House – May 10, 2018.

Voting.

House Communications @MOHOUSECOMM
HB 1558 (Private Sexual Images) has been Truly Agreed and Finally Passed by #MOHouse by a vote of 138-0.
3:50 PM – 10 May 2018

With no dissent.

The House discussed and voted on an emergency clause for the bill which would make the bill law immediately upon signing by the governor (or after a period, without his signature and without his veto). The discussion was about if the passed bill would be forwarded to the governor immediately. The Speaker took to the floor of the House to answer that inquiry.

Representative Jon Carpenter (D) – on the floor of the House – May 10, 2018.

Speaker Todd Richardson – on the floor of the House – May 10, 2018.

The answer appeared to be that it would.

The emergency clause passed without dissent:

Emergency Clause for HB 1558 (Private Sexual Images) has been adopted by #MOHouse by a vote of 138-0.
3:56 PM – 10 May 2018

Doe anyone think Eric Greitens (r) will sign this bill when (or if he’s still governor) it reaches him?

Bryan Spencer, General Assembly, Jefferson City, missouri, Todd Richardson, virtual education

There’s not much time left in the General Assembly’s regular session. It ends on May 18th at 5:59 p.m.

This morning the House worked on education bills, voting to affirm the bill titles to keep the scope of any amendments narrow and germane to the main bills.

HCS SS SCS SBS 603, 576 & 899 (bills get combined and worked over in both houses of the General Assembly) on the subject of virtual education, was handled on the House floor by Representative Bryan Spencer (R).

Representative Bryan Spencer (R) – May 10, 2018.

After amendments and debate the House voted. The tally was close, with a number of members not yet voting.

The board was held open for a lengthy (and quiet) period:

Some arm twisting:

Speaker Todd Richardson (R) (second from right) – May 10, 2018.

After the discussion arm twisting on the House floor the board was closed and the bill was third read and passed.

House Communications @MOHOUSECOMM
SBs 603, 576 & 898 (Virtual Education) has been third read and passed by #MOHouse by a vote of 84-66.

Today at the Missouri Ethics Commission in support of a PAC supporting “right to get paid less”:

Isn’t that special? That’s a lot of money to promote the “freedom” of workers to get paid less.

“…bomb, bomb, bomb…bomb, bomb Iran…”

Yesterday, via Twitter:

Rep. Vicky Hartzler @RepHartzler
W/drawal from Iran agreement provides opportunity to establish more stable, equitable solution so Iran doesn’t develop nuclear weapons. New agreement should address ballistic missiles, require stronger inspections, & permanently restrict Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons.
2:11 PM – 8 May 2018 from Washington, DC

Some of the responses:

No, without the agreement they can begin working on nuclear weapons immediately. You support that. And why would any country trust a deal with the US if we’re just going to bail, despite them upholding their end. Be specific, how was this decision good. Hold a public town hall

Well, she did hold one of those on August 14, 2015. That was a while ago.

Respectfully, may your constituents review this new, more stable, equitable solution? Many people are saying the administration for which you provide cover, doesn’t have a plan. Can you prove them wrong?

Withdrawal from the Iran agreement shows the world that we can’t be trusted to keep our word. You have just permanently ruined our political standing in the world. Stop trying to sell it as some enlightened strategy.

Then tell me why France, Germany and Great Britain pleaded with us to not break the deal??

Trump’s going to do that? That’s a pretty tall order for a guy who couldn’t keep his casino from going bankrupt.

Gambling with money, gambling with lives, there’s not much difference, right?

How will the US violating the terms of this agreement help your constituents here in the 4th Congressional district?

That’s easy. Higher gas prices. Oh, wait, you said “help”…

Just ride right along with his idiocy. Birds of a feather.

Thanks: By the way, now that Trump says Iran is in breach of JCPOA, according to the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, the IC is required to provide Congress with details of the breach within 10 calendar days. I’ll be looking forward to hearing of this report.

Especially since DNI director Coats has testified they are in full compliance [….]

Detail, details…

Idiot! You know it won’t be renegotiated

We just lost all of our bargaining power you idiot. Trump has no plan B. BiBi wants war so sign your kids up for the military. We’re tired of fighting GOP lead wars in the Middle East.

There seems to be a theme.

And, in the words of Christiane Amanpour, yesterday:

Mick Krever @mickbk
.@camanpour: “I would describe pulling out of this deal as possibly the greatest deliberate act of self-harm and self-sabotage in geo-strategic politics in the modern era.”
[….]
9:42 AM – 8 May 2018

That’s a nice way of saying “idiot”.

General Assembly, HCS SB 743, House, Jefferson City, missouri

Cato the Elder tacked that on to his speeches in the Roman Senate, relevant or not.

The republicans in the Missouri General Assembly have super majorities in both houses.

Therefore, we should arm everyone in our public schools. Therefore, if it could possibly involve Planned Parenthood, we’re not interested. Therefore, St. Louis schools are not our problem. Therefore, an AR-15 is a perfectly good tool for hunting, because, well…

HCS SB 743, an education bill, was the subject of most of yesterday’s morning and afternoon sessions in the House. By one count there were forty amendments to be considered on the bill. With the time remaining on the legislative calendar, the actions (or lack thereof) of the Senate, and an impending sense of doom the education bill became a vehicle to try to hang entire bills which have no other legislative route to approval other than as amendments to another bill.

Then those amendments have to survive a conference committee.

As the afternoon session ground on one member of the House in the side gallery started quietly singing “Oh, Christmas tree”, joking that hanging all those ornaments on the tree was going to make it topple.

Representative Bruce Franks, Jr. (D) – May 8, 2018.

Representative Stacey Newman (D) – May 8, 2018.

Representative Hannah Kelly (R) – May 8, 2018.

Representative Holly Rehder (R) – May 8, 2018

Representative Deb Lavender (D) – May 8, 2018.

Minority Whip Kip Kendrick (D) – May 8, 2018.

Representative Martha Stevens (D) – May 8, 2018.

Representative Karla May (D) – May 8, 2018.

Speaker Todd Richardson – May 8, 2018.

Representative Mike Moon (R) – May 8, 2018.

There isn’t much levity at the end of this session in comparison to others. One can sense the tension and frustration – sometimes that bubbles up. It’s not so much the possible (probable, depending on who you talk to) impeachment of Governor Eric Greitens (r), but, as one member of the House said, a symptom of the Trump Era.

The Special Session which may consider impeachment commences at 6:30 p.m. on May 18th, thirty minutes after the end of the General Session. No one is certain of what is going to happen.

Though, we’d like to find out where that $1,975,000.00 really came from.

General Assembly, Jefferson City, missouri

This morning on the third floor of the Capitol in Jefferson City about ten grim faced individuals exited the Speaker’s office approximately fifteen minutes before the start of the morning session.

Toward the end of the morning session the Speaker walked through a side gallery to the back of the House to speak with the Minority Floor Leader:

Minority Floor Leader Gail McCann Beaty (D) (left) and Speaker Todd Richardson (R) (center) on the floor of the House – May 8, 2018.

He then walked through to House and exited the floor.

There doesn’t appear to be the usual amount of levity on the floor of the House, even for this point close to the end of the regular session.

It appears to be falling on deaf ears.

Today in Jefferson City, on the third floor of the Capitol, on more than a few members’ office doors:

“Blessings [and] provisions, God’s will – be strong”

“God’s blesings and wisdom and provision on this office!”

“Where God guides the providers!”

“Pray for a healthy planet for our grandkids to inherit an[d] for our reps to care too.”

“Pray for separation of church and state!”

True story: @drobertsNYC and I knew this dude at Oxford (he was Rhodes year before me) and found him so creepy we made him the villain in a screenplay we wrote… It was a pretty bad screenplay. But also maybe we were just ahead of our time?

And:

Yep. He was sure creepy. Already talking about how he would be governor or president. Loved to box. Put on a suit every day to “work on his book”….

Did he wear a tie? Just asking.

Blaine Greteman @BlaineGreteman May 4
Let’s just say the “sexy workout” part does not ring untrue…

And a defender:

Replying to @BlaineGreteman @JaneDueker @DRobertsNYC
So you just now are tweeting about Governor Greitens? Pretty convenient to join the liberal bashing. The State can’t win the invasion of privacy case without the imaginary photo.

We have no idea.
