“How is this going to work?
Does the sanctuary kick in when they teleport inside the city limits?
Just asking.”

There is an issue being discussed by the Rolla City Council that we would like to make you aware of.
Some members of the City Council are interested in declaring Rolla a “Sanctuary City for the Unborn”, and as such, taking away some of the reproductive rights that were supported by the majority of voters at the November 5th election when Amendment 3 was passed.
If this is an issue that is important to you, please consider going to the Monday, January 6th City Council meeting at Rolla City Hall, 901 North Elm Street, Rolla, MO at 6:30 pm. There might be a big crowd, so please come early. Planned Parenthood is requesting that supporters of keeping our reproductive rights wear pink.
Our City Council needs to know that they are not supporting the will of the people by trying to impose an ordinance that could limit the availability of reproductive rights that were just approved by the voters.
If you cannot be present at the meeting, you can watch it online: Rolla MO City Council Meeting January 6 2025 [….]

FFS… some members of the Rolla City Council are wanting to declare that city a “sanctuary city for the unborn.”
Missouri just overturned our abortion ban through a constitutional amendment.

Some of the responses:
I’m not sure if they’ve worked out the details of how a blastocyst applies for sanctuary…
As long as they can kill some women, that’s all they care about.
Truth
Rolla City wants to declare itself a ‘sanctuary city for the unborn,’ yet Missouri has already overturned the abortion ban with a constitutional amendment. The fight for reproductive rights is far from over
Im sorry..but thats just weird.
And that will end up in court. City ordinances don’t supersede state laws.
Why are they so ignorant to what their citizens want? What a waste of citizens money.
I long for the day when city councils focus on garbage pickup, filling potholes and clean tap water, and state legislatures fund the schools and destitute and Congress brings home the pork.
This is why I refuse to let my engineering major sons spend my tuition money in Rolla.
Same.
When they don’t give two shits for the already born?–seems a little hallow, eh?
Anti-abortion is to saving babies like Agent Orange is to gardening. =TOXIC
So basically… they read A Handmaid’s Tale, and decided it looked like a great policy choice? [….]

“Abort the court”
What, pray tell, will they do with the walking around children? Let them go hungry and cold, no doubt.
Rolla is in the poorest district in the entire state of Missouri
Yep. I grew up in Texas County, next door to Rolla. Geezus people.
Idiots. What a waste of time and money. Another example of the rule of law party not following the law or voice of the people. [….]
OH, “Stupid is as stupid does” immediately comes to mind. There aren’t enough facepalms to facepalm here. Good grief! Missouri has spoken. Leave it alone!
Notice how the voters keep coming together and voting for higher wages, human rights, & healthcare.
But Conservative Christian Republicans in office keep trying to overthrow the will of the people to take away more of our rights.
Fucking Republicans refuse to listen to the voters. It’s sick.
Does this mean that pregnant women can come to the city and be taken care of until the baby is born?
No.

Venn Diagram of Right Wingnut Orthodoxy – not complete
Why don’t they take it step-by-step.
First, be a sanctuary city for those that have been born.
When they find that fulfilling of the needs and caring for all those who have been born is mission accomplished, then they should take their extra resources and be a haven for the unborn.
OMG.
It’s all about control. Judging for someone.
The bible thumpers need to tend to thine one gardens a bit more.
If love to see the passengers on that bus
They lied when they said it was about state rights, they want a national ban.
They lie when they say it’s the will if the people. They keep trying to overturn the will if the people.
It’s about power over women.
Is it a sanctuary city for the women who provide the nutrients for the “unborn”? Free healthcare for pregnant non-citizens and poor people?
Religious zealotry makes people so stupid.
