This evening:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
Questioning for 5 hours so far in the Senate. Adam Schiff just said House Dems’ case is about bribery. But they didn’t allege bribery in the Articles! Or extortion. Or any unlawful conduct of any kind. But we should overturn an election? Schiff & Co getting desperate
5:46 PM · Jan 29, 2020

Josh Hawley [2016 file photo].

As always, there’s much hilarity in the responses:

You’re dishonest and should resign because you very clearly do not plan to follow through on the oath you swore.

I’ve never been a Hawley fan, but I didn’t expect him to this blatantly show his corruption to the world

Josh we want witnesses. I’ll remember this in 2024.

IT IS NOT OVERTURNING AN ELECTION. Because the bribe was not accepted does not negate the bribery. Please call witnesses!

Senator, you do realize that we have TV &/or radio & can listen in real time, right? Because….that is so not what he said.

Impeachment is NOT overturning an election. It’s in the Constitution

How did trump cheat in an election? He won fair and square. This impeachment has nothing to do with crimes or misconduct and everything to do with the Democrats trying to alter the course of the 2020 election. This is a coup. Fuck the dem pieces of shit.

Obvious satire.

He’s making it up as he goes.

Hey Josh, I’m a Missouri resident and I will be voting against every Republican on the ballet from now until the day I die!!
The shit show that you’re party has brought to our national politics is nauseating to say the least. Witnesses and documents or it’s a cover up…

Sure they alleged bribery in the Articles.
Here’s the text.

Impeachment doesn’t overturn the election. It replaces Trump with Pence. It’s in the Constitution. Read it.

Hey Josh just so u know, the “Constitution” (mentioned above) is the founding document of the American govt. I actually feel like u took an oath to it at some point, might be relevant here IMO. I heard it’s widely available online if you want to check it out.

Good luck buddy!

The description of Trump’s crimes by Democrats includes the solicitation of a bribe by Trump, when he asked Ukraine for a “favor”.

We want witnesses and documents.

Those silly Democrats trying to protect the sanctity of our elections and our constitution!!

Okay, that one’s sarcasm.

Are you a Senator or a Trump’s defense attorney? They aren’t the same.

It’s hard to tell. Either way the quality of the work is just as bad.

Remember the oath you took.

I am so disappointed in you Josh! Your allegiance to this virale, corrupt President is going to come back and bite you so badly!

There is no overturned election. This is a lie that Republicans perpetuate. The election stands but Pence becomes POTUS. If it were overturned there would either be a new election or Clinton would become POTUS. #RemoveTrumpNow

Ask if Josh is under oath! Ah wait he is! He just doesn’t seem to show it.

I’m a constituent and would like to see the Senate call for Witnesses and documents. It is then I think we will know the truth and there will be no doubts one way or another! Otherwise there will be a SHADOW over the Republican Senators as a coverup! Truth!

Your lack of knowledge is overwhelming.

We want witnesses and documents and a vote to remove. He is guilty Josh.

If you want to call Hunter Biden, go ahead. You have the majority. But it’s all a sham isn’t it? You guys would rather just smear someone than actually hear from them. You can’t ignore Bolton and think this will be a real trial. An overwhelming number of citizens want witnesses.

Are you sure you’re a lawyer? Abuse of Power by bribing a foreign official, (I will release the aid if you help me), to help with an election. Does that help. Your very disappointed constituent.

“…Now I know he went to Yale, I think, or Harvard, one of those, one of those fancy ones…”

Heh.

Your email to me was absolutely horrendous! Blunt emailed me back, and he was considerate and talked about how my views were justified; However, you just slammed my views and said they were unfounded and ridiculous! I’m insulted by this display! Expect another call!!!

Or, a sternly worded memo might work.

Article 1 describes bribery. We’re not that stupid.

He is.

You could not be more wrong.

Overturn an election=Not doing my job of holding a president accountable to the constitution.

Who said anything about overturning an election? Besides you.

Smart move to say the Democrats can only remove Trump after catching him in ALL his crimes since he’s proven he can commit them at break-neck speed.

Bribery IS Abuse of Power.

This isn’t overturning an election, that election is long over. Impeachment is removal of a President that abuses his power, in this case, by bribery.

That’s covered under abuse of power Sparky. Find a better lie than overturning the election.

This too… right in the Articles

“President Trump solicited the interference of a foreign government, Ukraine, in the 2020 United States Presidential election.”

This afternoon:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
After listening to the Dems’ 20+ hours of argument and the rebuttal arguments from @realDonaldTrump, I’ve got lots of questions for the Dems. Like this one: Why did Schiff lie about his contact with the “whistleblower”? More to come!
1:33 PM · Jan 28, 2020

As always, there is much hilarity in the responses. They ain’t buying it:

But you don’t have any questions for Bolton, or Pompeo, or Trump? You’re the worst senator, and that’s a hard title to earn.

I’ve got questions:
Q1: Why did Trump ask Ukraine to do him a favor – check into Biden, when that was old news & already resolved?
Q2: Why was he ONLY interested in them announcing an investigation?
Q3: Why did he withhold the $ from Ukraine?
Huh, Josh?!!!

Why are we not asking the president why he illegally withheld aide from Ukraine in order to benefit his campaign? #politicalhack

@HawleyMO, I’m sorry, what exactly was the defense? All I’ve heard so far.. Bidens, Bidens, Bidens, oh, they threw in Obama, a lecture on impeachment and all the half truths and selective testimony taken out of context. BUT, I have heard no defense for #trumpIsACorruptLiar

What are you even talking about? Focus on the trial and stop the whataboutism

You’re worried about fiction instead of facts. Typical of republicans these days.

Mostly, we’d like to have some genuine first-hand information about the conversation. Bolton was there. He knows more than anyone we’ve heard from. It sure would be helpful to hear his side of the story.
#BoltonTestify

You are missing the point and just parroting the last few whitehouse points that were written on a map with a sharpie.. the oath needs to be replaced. New idea attach 50k Volts to each bollock and swear on that instead. If you lie you get a shock .. how to sort out politicians

Oh, FFS. This isn’t hard. Come to Kansas City and let your constituents ask questions of you, Senator. I’d say more to come, but you only show up on Fox News.

Have you tried using a bank of microphones as bait?

Call the witnesses; produce the documents. We deserve to know the whole truth. Doesn’t sound to me like Schiff did have contact. But does it matter? The whistleblower was just a tip; the facts have supported those claims.

@HawleyMO, where you sitting in on the trial? Do they have a little box in the senate room that the impeachment trial is playing on while Hannity gives his views? I’m thinking you didn’t see the first half of the trial. IGNORANCE is no excuse for the law!!!!

That would be funny if there actually was a little senators’ table.

Why did @realDonaldTrump lie about knowing Parnas? Why did @realDonaldTrump say to “take her out” about Yavonovitch? And why was the State Dept worried about her safety when they wisked her out Ukraine in the middle of the night?

This is performance art right? Like a bad Andy Kauffman/Tony Clifton thing. There is no way you could be this craven and devoid of integrity.

Tony Clifton had a better haircut.

Knock yourself out. By the way, Americans want to hear from John Bolton.

More to come = waiting for #MoscowMitch to tell me what to say.

Missouri deserves so much better. Impeach and Remove.

Better question, what is trump hiding?

I have a question… who is the hackiest hack, you or @SenJoniErnst?

Let Bolton Speak

Resign

Witnesses.

Yes, and what is the current market price of tea in China?

Call the witnesses. Produce the documents.

Do you have any questions about the President illegally impounding military aid to a vulnerable ally to coerce them into announcing a fake investigation to interfere in our elections on his behalf?

Why don’t you care about Trump’s abuse, betrayal, and corruption? #DoYourJob

How about, “Why did #ImpeachedForever #FakePresident think it was ok to bully a foreign government desperate for funds already allocated by congress, and then lie about it?” The good thing is that you are actually young enough to find another job when you are voted out of office.

Let’s call this exactly what it is: a cover-up.

What a ridiculously fraudulent partisan sham whitewash cover-up being executed by Trump and GOP.

Nobody believes you, Joshie. You’ve lied to us too many times.

#HucksterHawley who wants to be president in 2024 panders to the Trump base keeping their conspiracies and hocum alive. #GOPCorruptionOverCountry

You are a disgusting excuse for an American. You do not deserve the job of Senator. You should resign in shame.
You took an oath to defend the Constitution, and now when your defense is needed, you join the assault on our most sacred document. Why don’t you care what trump did?

Distract. Distract. Distract. Flashing objects at your base isn’t respectful. Cluttering the discussion can only hurt your cause. Schiff isn’t being impeached. Trump is. Lead or leave. And, stop having high school sophomores managing your messaging.
@realDonaldTrump

Not high school sophomores, a middle school dance decorating committee (volunteer). High school sophomores would be doing a much better job.

Great….now, how about you answer some questions for your constituents? You clearly have the time judging by your appearances on Fox News and your tweets yet we never get a response.

Why would you vote not to see witnesses when 70% of Americans would like to see testimony?

You’re lying and it the whistleblower is irrelevant. The Biden’s are irrelevant. The only thing that matters here is what Trump did and he’s guilty. If you don’t vote to remove, I hope you’ll be a one term senator.

He’ll have all the money he needs in 2024.

Where’s your moral compass? It seems to be MIA.

#OneTermJosh #OneTermHawley

I can’t believe there are enough gullible voters here for you to have a job. You’re a liar and a shill for your dear leader.

Deflection is such a played out tactic, Josh – is your case THAT weak?

Have you noticed @RoyBlunt is not tweeting? Maybe he’s at least trying to appear impartial.

You should just stop. It’s making you look dumb.

Look?

Dude, you like the tweaker who steals tools out of your garage and then comes back to help you look for it…shameless.

You’re a special kind of stupid, aren’t you? #RemoveandIndictTrumpNOW

You’re such a fucking liar it isn’t even funny.

Tonight:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
Dershowitz eviscerates the Dems’ case tonight. They have not charged an impeachable offense or alleged impeachable conduct. Period. Let’s vote
8:32 PM · Jan 27, 2020

As usual, there was much hilarity in the responses:

You know this because of your extensive Courtroom experience…….Oh wait.

That one was from a retired Missouri Circuit Court Judge.

…didn’t you want to hear from Hunter Biden and Schiff earlier today?

I’m just trying to keep track—are they important or nah?

He’s kind of shakey at this sycophant thing, so they cut him a little slack.

Here’s what’s changed. The NYT dropped another leak from Bolton’s book tonight. They have to get things wrapped up before anymore facts come out. Drip. Drip. Drip.

No, as a Show Me State resident, I want witnesses. Start with Bolton. Let’s get testimony

And now you know why josh had to quickly get a different job than being a lawyer

Ouch. That one left a mark.

Then let’s bring in Bolton and get the word straight from the horses mouth.

How can you vote when you haven’t heard from any witnesses? Why are you pushing this through? Is it because you are afraid of what else may surface publicly? Because you know it will.

How can abuse of power not be impeachable? It is by definition not proper conduct! And obstruction of Congress is denial of the Congress’s enumerated power to impeach and try impeachments. If that’s not impeachable, nothing is.

We’re Americans. We’re not children and we’re not afraid of the truth. Bring it.

Let loose the witnesses!

Yes, but they’re republican senators…

Dersh is a criminal defense lawyer. 1 of his students who became a constitutional lawyer said he was glad he didn’t have Dersh for constitutional law b/c his arguments are laughable. Explain how Trump was legally able to withhold aid already approved without notifying Congress.

Maybe the self described “constitutional lawyer” needs to ask for his law school tuition back.

The impeachable offense is listed in the articles. Once this bs grandstanding of parading republicans to defend their religious values is over… and the real trial begins… then you’ll have the proof for the impeachment.

But I understand dumb voters don’t research.

Dunning-Kruger Effect.

Dershowitz treated the Constitution today like a square of toilet paper. He has no conscience and will do anything to give Republicans an out. To Dumb down the Constitution like trump has dumbed down America. This is a direct assault on the Law and the US Constitution.

Yep, a vendetta against Republican attempts to have a trial without witnesses or documents – especially when new facts are coming out every day.

Republicans are delusional if they think acquitting trump w/o witnesses won’t come back & nite them in the a$$.

Obstruction is an impeachable offense, Senator. I know you’re focused on bootlicking, but have a bit of objective decency. Once again, feel free to come to KC and face your constituents!

Is it just me or does-
Trump’s attorneys sounds like they are doing an oral book report on a book they never read. Hours of nothing.

As my elected representative I urge you to stop being a sycophant and use that fancy Yale Law degree to think seriously about the danger this president poses to us all and our constitutional republic. You must vote to hear witnesses and to remove him from office.

Pro tip: cheating to win an election is always impeachable

Yeah Hunter Biden withheld military aide. He also told his personal attorney and the AG to go find dirt on his political opponents.

Are you really a constitutional lawyer? Did you get your degree in a gumball machine?

So I’m other words you failed logic and critical thinking in 8th grade.
#AmericansDemandWitnesses

“eviscerates”? Now that’s certainly creative. Seems more like he said no other ‘constitutional’ attorney agrees with me but that’s my opinion. Period. Let’s call witnesses.

Dershowitz is a prima facia case of “opinions money can buy”.

“The subjects of its jurisdiction are those offenses which proceed from the misconduct of public men, or, in other words, from the abuse or violation of some public trust.“ I’ll take Alexander Hamilton‘s version over Dershowitz’s.

Dersh said himself that his opinion on this does not match the consensus of nearly all constitutional scholars. He is the outlier here.

Wait… aren’t you the one that said human trafficking is the result of the American sexual revolution in the 1960s? And ripping kids from their parents was a matter of upholding law and order?

Well, now that you ask, yes.

Why are you attempting to GASLIGHT Americans?

Wow Hawley. Now I know just where you stand. Against Justice, against the will of the People, hearing the witnesses & viewing documentation to complete the trial with full information. Missouri voting is easier everyday. Show your colors MO politicians. We’re watching.

And every constitutional scholar says Dershowitz is totally wrong. If you can find even one reputable person to agree with him, you might have a case, but the only person who used to agree with him wrote an op-ed today about why offenses were impeachable.

Whoa there, Joshy. Captain Underpants spoke in contradictions and has even less credibility than Ken Starr. But I can see you’re in a hurry to acquit before Bolton has a chance to testify. He’s a first hand witness. Isn’t that what you say is missing?

Feeling the rush to vote before Parnas drops another 2 -3 videos?

He didn’t eviscerate anything.
It was so unwatchable and nonsensical I had to turn it off.

Did you have to use your fidget spinner to make it through that mess?

#CallTheWitnesses #LetBoltonTestify

Dershowitz has a pretty obscure take on the matter. Seems like you maybe should call other Constitutional scholars since most say his arguments is utter BS. But you already know that, don’t you. So tired of GOP dishonesty.

I am so disappointed in you. I look forward to supporting whoever runs against you. I just wish I could vote against you sooner. You have shown time and again that you have no character. Such a disgrace.

The president’s defense is still just lies and misdirection, just like his life.

And on and on…

Missouri’s junior senator:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
WH Counsel Pat Cipollone: Overturning 2016 election and taking @realDonaldTrump off 2020 ballot is what Dems are asking for. That’s real election interference
11:22 AM · Jan 25, 2020

He really thinks everyone else is that stupid. Royalist toady.

There was much hilarity in the responses:

Fun Fact: If Donald Trump is impeached, Mike Pence, who was on the 2016 Republican Presidential ticket, becomes president. So, NOT overturning an election.

This is about 2020, not 2016, and the president’s attempt to tamper with it through Ukraine by extorting a conspiracy theory investigation, or at least an announcement of the same. Bring on the witnesses and documents so we the people can hear the full truth.

Impeachment is in the Constitution for those who grossly abuse their power. Trump was what the founders had in mind when they gave it to us. If a president can’t be indicted, misuses his power to rig elections, he must be impeached.

Must be afraid of #HeadsOnPikes. or just a sycophant. Either way is chickenshit.

No pressure, right?

this is why you’re on twitter gaslighting while @clairecmc is on a panel analyzing. the contrast of your emptiness with her competence is overwhelming.

That’s literally the remedy in the Constitution, which I believe you swore to uphold.

Josh,
In the interest of trying to understand you, what is it exactly that you like about Trump?
His tax cuts for the wealthy? His ignorance of science? His adultery? His handling of N. Korea and Iran? Emoluments? Flynn and Manafort?

… I just want to know.

Politicians have had to leave office for wrongdoing even though they were duly elected by the people. These removals do not negate election results, they are punishing the officeholder for their actions. Ask Rod Blagojevich.

So you are a lawyer who supports crime?

Please answer this question @HawleyMO !

It is NOT “overturning the 2016 election.” Pence would be president, not Hillary. All the legislation, appointments, and judges would still be there. It is a Constitutional process and should be taken seriously.

No dude ‘overturning the 2016 election results’ = riots in the street. This is an Impeachment Trial. Right now you just gotta sit still and be a good boy.

No Josh, that’s protecting our democracy.

Josh is so thirsty to be the top lap dog.

Oh pullease. It’s called checks and balances. Try it.

Missourians are asking for a fair trial with #WitnessesAndDocuments , Senator.

They’re asking for accountability.

Condescending blathering…

Pence would take office. It’s not like Merrick Garland.

If any of us acted like Trump at our place of employment, we would be fired. Adults in the professional workforce general have to adhere to a copmany’s Code of Conduct. If we lie, cheat or steal – we get fired immediately. Trump should be fired.

This sounds like the occupant in OUR house is throwing out more nonsense. Pretty sure our WH is used by a group of squalling toddlers. NOTHING presidential comes out of the WH.

Today is the day that Trump’s lawyers transform into Baghdad Bob.

Nothing to see here just a divine, caring, faithful, man.

It’s Bidens fault.

Trump is always grabbing the GOP by the p**sy.

Let’s be clear. If @realDonaldTrump is allowed to get away with inviting foreign governments into the American elections. The 2020 election will be stolen again.
Just ask Merrick Garland.

How is this undoing the 2016 election? If Trump is removed from office, Hillary Clinton will not be president. Mike Pence is next in line to the presidency.

That’s so ignorant.

How did you get to be a US Senator with such silly unintelligent logic?

Privilege? Just spitballing here.

Parrot that new party line. He lost the popular vote, remember?

Not the winner of the popular vote…he brought this all on himself.

It’s similar to saying that conviction and imprisonment of a murderer is interfering with the
Murderer’s freedom and liberty.

You were an attorney general?

Well…

Just stop sycophant!

Oh god. What a fool.

As a Constitutional lawyer you obviously don’t believe that?

You are saying the Framers made an error adding the Impeachment clause into said document.

So, Senator Hawley, your argument is that we should allow the president to coerce foreign governments to help him cheat in the next election because hey—he’s already on the ballot?? Would a President Pence really be worse than allowing Trump to blackmail Ukraine?

So much for the he didn’t know Lev Parnas.
Are we shocked he’s a liar, not really.
Are we shocked Republicans stand for nothing not even the rule of law, nah, kinda expected that too.
Remember when being a CROOK in America meant something?

Holding the POTUS responsible for attempted interference in the 2020 election is the same as attempting interference in the 2020 election? Did you teach circular reasoning in your Constitutional Law class?

You are, without a doubt, the stupidest person in the Senate.

You don’t overturn an election when the ELECTED Vice President becomes president after a criminal is thrown out of office, you disingenuous blowhard. Try to use your powers for good sometime, wouldya?

Ahh. Come on Josh… you are not really that dumb.. are you?

So tired of hearing “overturning an election” crap. Are Republicans Senators really this stupid? I would say no, just using it to manipulate the ignorant and partisan. Do you guys really hate Pence that much?

No Josh, that’s crap. Learn the difference or resign.

Fascist Constitution-hating apparatchik.

You need to resign if you really believe that.

Proven election inteference in 2016. Proven election interference in 2020. But yeah let him do it again… maybe you should read the constitution for the very first time and take your head out of trumps ass.

Wow- you’re stupid. Impeachment is in the constitution. Holding a president accountable for their actions isn’t election interference boot licker.

Hey Hawley, afraid your head will end up on a pike? You’re a coward.

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…

The junior senator for Missouri had his delicate sensibilities mussed this evening.

Josh Hawley (r) [2016 file photo].

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
Schiff & Co end as they began: insulting senators, calling @realDonaldTrump a dictator, and disparaging the will of the voters
8:11 PM · Jan 24, 2020

Hmmm. A royalist toady. Go figure.

As always, the responses:

Schiff is asking us all to remember that truth matters. You may have forgotten, Josh, but the nation hasn’t.

This isn’t about the 2016 election. This is about a man who betrayed the nation.

Shame you are following him like a lapdog.
#truthmatters

Or, a toady.

I’m a constituent. I just called your office and left a message. Your most solemn obligation to this Republic is to vote to remove this aspiring autocrat from office. You’ll be remembered for nothing else.

You did not watch the impeachment. There was plenty of evidence. In a criminal trial this would be a slam dunk.

To oppose these article means you have a fundamentally flawed understanding of American history or governance.

As a veteran, I am completely insulted of your fealty to a man and not our Constution. We want documents and witnesses NOW!

And you end as you began, ignoring all evidence presented and disparaging the public who wants to hear from the witnesses Trump silenced.

At least you’re consistent. Never did your job as AG. Not doing it as our Senator.

Ouch.

You’re not voting on whether or not you’re offended or if President Snowflake got his feelings hurt. You’re supposed to be voting on the truth. Which would be significantly easier to do if you would allow witnesses and evidence.

Why are you protecting this man? He could not be less worthy. Oh wait.. you’re That Josh Hawley.

Truth matters. Apparently it hurts too if all you got out of this is a presumed insult.

You know what else disparages voters? Election interference.

71% of voters want witnesses.
51% of voters want Trump removed.

The will of the voters wanted Hillary.

Well if it walks like a dictator and talks like a dictator…

Oh their FEELINGS were hurt with some words and not at all by the THREAT to their heads CUT off and put on spikes by the person THEY are defending?

Ok… What color is sky on the planet you’re from.

Says the MO Senator whose seat was bought and paid for by Dark Money Super PACs. Lev Parmas donated a lot of money to Missouri campaigns right Josh?

Spoken like a professional bootlicker who didn’t open his mind one centimeter to honor the oath of impartiality he took before the trial. Good luck, @HawleyMO. America heard everything.

Schiff is asking us to remember that truth matter. The Constitution matters. Your president used extortion for his own personal gain. He is a pathological liar. He thinks he is above the law. That is all the traits of a dictator. Too bad the GOP sees fit to cover up his crimes.

As if Trump doesn’t call names, jealous of a 16 year old girl for being picked as “Person of the Year” has derogatory names for everyone that dares to “hand it back to him” when he bullies. So spare the poor, poor pitiful, Trump is a victim BS.

Damn. You are unbelievable. This is America. Trials have documents and witnesses. And jurors are there to look at the evidence and make a call. The evidence is overwhelming. This will be the vote that everyone remembers Remove Trump.

I’m a constituent! “Give America a fair trial. She’s worth it.” #Fairtrial #WitnessesAndDocuments

The wannabe dictator who lacks the insight that suggests he wants to do whatever he wants just like a dictator. Newsflash! The American people are the real jurors!

The voters wanted a criminal for President? That seems odd…
But I guess they did. Trump was a criminal for decades before he ran for President

Omg. I watched the entire close. That *that* is what you took from him is evidence of a juvenile, superficial, and insipid “thinking”. You are the Peter Principle embodied.

truth hurts

if there is only one branch of government, by default the mode of government is a monarchy

You’re a constitution lawyer? You should go back and read the constitution, think you missed some parts.

Trump lost the election by 2,868,686 votes.

Yep.

Your constituents are watching. What I saw was Adam Schiff and Democrats standing up for the rule of law and truth and the constitution. All I’ve seen out of Republican Senators is whining about having to listen. You are an embarrassment to Missouri.

Yeah, whatever.
So,here’s your chance. Vote to admit witnesses/evidence.Use them to exonerate the impeached president,if that’s what they support. If exonerated, then acquit.
Acquittal 1st,before this process, concedes his guilt and he will never be exonerated.
Uphold your oath.

Truth hurts, huh?
As for the will of the voters, need I remind you that your boy lost the popular vote and that without cheating, he will lose the next election too?

They’re disparaging the actions of a tyrant.

What do you call a leader of a country who disregards the law, disregards his advisors, disdains government norms & simply does whatever he wants because he knows he has castrated the Senate by his bullying? A dictator

Schiff destroyed the President’s defense before it even started. Fantastic work from Schiff, he’s a true patriot.

Quit grandstanding and do your job.

And on and on…

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…

Josh Hawley (r) [2016 file photo].

Last night:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
What have I seen today? Lots of grandstanding – but nothing new. It’s the same old talking points recycled over and over. Team Schiff simply has no evidence to convict @realDonaldTrump
[….]
7:33 PM · Jan 23, 2020

As always, there was much hilarity in the responses:

You voted 9 times to block new evidence and witnesses. Remember? It’s the witnesses and documents the president blocked from the House investigation. But nice try, liar.

So much for Josh Hawley (r) complaining about evidence when he voted to not see any.

Maybe call witnesses you corrupt idiot. What do you have to lose if you think Trump is innocent? You have no good answer for that. Its not national security. Trump just taunted that he’s got the materials.

Senator Hawley does not want more evidence.

No amount of evidence can persuade Senator Hawley to do what’s right for America.

Senator Hawley only cares about what’s right for himself.

What’s right for himself is to pander to the Trump base.

They hold the cards in the GOP.

I live in Missouri, but I do not consider Josh Hawley OR Roy Blunt my senators. They seem concerned only with covering up a corrupt government and preserving their own political hides.

Josh Hawley thinks it’s ok for a foreign government to interfere in our election, and to think once Missouri had the great senator Harry Truman. Now we have to Senators that have sold out to corporate America.

What I’ve seen Elite Boy, is a brilliant layout of all the actions used by POTUS to coerce an ally to do his bidding regarding his bogus claim against the Bidens. He, Mulvaney, Ghouliani have all admitted it in public,on camera multiple times. Also noticed you too took Lev money.

Mr. Hawley…

Who exactly are best served w/ your predisposed words & stance? The law? The Constitution? People of Missouri? Any of the oaths of office you promised to support & defend? Nah. So far the only loyalty you exhibit is towards your dark money campaign donors.

Yeah, go on @MSNBC and try and get away with that crap.

You’re complicit.

And when it ALL comes out (and it will), we will remember how you chose to look the other way.

This situation is exactly why principled leaders have core values.

You & the GOP have failed spectacularly.

You’re all just covering up. Gaslighting. Destroying the rule of law. You’re just a thug. Sold out the country for not even that much money. He did it on television. We saw it. Traitors really don’t have happy endings.

Looks like you’ve made up your mind to cover up for the worst president in the history of our country. Not only is he foul, incompetent and demented, he’s also a career criminal. Go right ahead and side with that man, I’m sure it’s going to work out great for you!

Really? You see no evidence? How about the evidence that Donald Trump used our TAX DOLLARS for his own personal political benefit. Who pays for the salary for the ambassadors who were told to “work with Rudy”? We do. Who pays for the military aid that Donald Trump used to Leverage the Ukraine to do him a personal favor? We do. If you are not going to be a good steward of my tax dollars, you need to resign.

Trump must be held accountable for his actions. You are ignoring the facts to suit your partisanship.
You have no business being a U.S. Senator.

Where you even there? 21 Republican senators skipped out. Since Republicans control the cameras, we can’t see the half-empty room.

One splinter. How do you square Trump using his pers lawyer, who is not a gov’t employee and does not have SECURITY CLEARANCE, as a liaison to request a foreign govt investigate an American citizen/ political opponent when he heads worlds finest investigators, FBI?

Josh, when #45 conditioned the release of aid on President Zelensky making a statement that Ukraine was investigating Burisma/Biden and 2016 election, that was a bribe. When #45 released the aid because he was ‘caught’, his illegal conduct was attempted bribery.

You say “nothing new” yet you refuse to allow witnesses to be called and documents subpoenaed. #coverup
@senatemajldr #CoverUpMitch

Actually they have him dead to rights. You’re just a craven opportunist who would follow Hitler if it was politically expedient.

A reminder, Godwin’s Law has been suspended for the duration.

Trump was just bragging about how he was withholding the evidence!

Any impartial juror would find that disturbing, Senator.

Voted against hearing from witnesses with firsthand knowledge and then complains the he heard nothing new

Listen to the evidence and protect our Constitution. The evidence is there and it’s being shown to you #showmestate

“You heard nothing new” says the GOP senator who voted 9 times to avoid hearing anything new! #CorruptGOP #embarrassing #ConvictAndRemoveTrump

Hey Hawley….this Missourian wants to see the evidence and hear from the witnesses. Do your Constitutional job. This is the Show Me State….so show us!

There’s plenty, and more available, if you’d use the subpoena power to bring in witnesses. You fear the truth, though, and stick your head in the sand.

Quit trying to gaslight . Missouri voters are smarter than you give us credit.

LISTEN!!! I’m your constituent, and I demand that you listen to this trail! How dare you skirt your obligation to us!

You were sleeping and dreaming that you were watching Fox News if that was your take away. Do some stretches, have some coffee on your breaks, and pay attention to the actual information in front of you. Then make a statement. Thanks, from MO

Let’s see … you voted for no new evidence or witnesses. But more facts were presented. If you’d bring in the documents and witnesses, you could get corroboration or exoneration on those also.

Oh, there’s evidence and testimony. Your MO constituents want to hear it and see it. You should too, sir. That is what representation rather than loyalty to party looks like.

If that is what you think then you must have been one of the 23 republicans that left their seats and left the senate completely. Because what I saw and heard was a very compelling argument against an impeached president.

Another day, another night on Fox News. What have you done for Missouri lately?

I don’t know if the President needs to be removed but your lack of concern for his behavior is proof you aren’t representing the character and values of Missouri.

It’s the same evidence as last year.
That suggests Trump asked a foreign power to gelp his campaign. Don’t you want to know what really happened? Then ask to hear from witnesses close to Trump.

Get off your iPhone and do your job.

Signed,
one of your constituents

Well now that’s dishonest of you to say.

Maybe if you could stay in the chamber and listen might help!

Feels like maybe you should have voted to allow that new evidence. Or witnesses.

You’d think.

Which foreign nations are you going to solicit help from in your next election?

So we’re good with getting foreign help in our elections now? Noted.

I think it’s great. You should have to hear it over and over and over again. The whole truth will eventually come out. You will not be able to deny it when it does.

Then give them the documents and witnesses’. As a lawyer, you know this!

That’s “constitutional lawyer” to you.

YOU AREN’T LISTENING!!!!! Want new evidence??? Allow for all the documents and new witnesses!

Are we watching the same thing?

I am now dumber after watching the democrats speak

Must resist commenting…must resist commenting…must resist commenting…

It’s not too late to get on the side of truth. Vote to actually see the evidence you claim they don’t have. If it isn’t there, what are you worried about? #GOPCowards

Complete BS. You voted 10 times to reject seeing new evidence. #ImpartialJustice #WitnessesAndDocuments #CountryOverParty

With hot takes like this, I’m not sure how you even won a mock trial.

#TruthMatters and we know that a fair trial with witnesses and evidential documents will get us there. You’re not listening Josh.

Not true

You complain about seeing nothing new after voting not to allow anything new. and you think your constituents don’t see that? well your buddy Trump has announced that he has all the evidence so maybe ask him.

how did you ever get through law school? did you buy your way? you are the one grandstanding, chuckling like a loon and acting like a clown. there’s a mountain of evidence. you better hope your crack pot team have more than nonsense

Step 1: vote 11 times to make sure no new evidence or witnesses are admissable.
Step 2: complain that there’s nothing new.

Your complicity and corruption are pathetic.

Trump hurt our elections and national security. Stop whining and grandstanding; do your job and convict.

Well let’s see, there’s the constitution (I think you and the president are supposed to defend) the rule of law, morality, integrity, country before party and this little thing called self respect. Anyone or all would motivate a person with a beating heart to pursue the truth.

As a constituent of yours I am offended. If by the ‘same old talking points’ you are referring to the mountain of evidence brought about by courageous witnesses then yeah, you’re absolutely correct. Stop insulting the people of Missouri with your bias.

I’ve been a Republican my entire life. I fear what the Ds will do with the presidency and both houses of Congress, but corrupt liars like Trump and you are making it happen. There’s a mountain of unrebutted evidence, you little weasel.

Want to see something new? Ask for the documents being blocked by the WH. Want to hear something new? Ask for witnesses to testify. But you don’t want that. You don’t want the truth. You don’t care about anything except your own personal gain. Sounds like someone else we know.

Same old talking points?

You disgusting shill for smarter fascists than you. Those “talking points” prove the impeachable offenses by your Chief GOP Criminal, and the reason for conviction.

You need to be removed from office. You are complicit in enormous crimes against us.

And on and on…

“Faux News channel, fascist groupies” – protest sign, circa 2003- 2004.

“Россия” (Russia) – a variant of the Russian presidential flag.

Majority Leader McCarthy in 2016: ‘I think Putin pays Trump’
By Brandon Carter – 05/17/17 06:27 PM EDT

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) accused President Trump of being paid by Russian President Vladimir Putin back in 2016, according to a report resurfacing a conversation between McCarthy and other Republicans.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that McCarthy made the stunning remarks in a private conversation on Capitol Hill.

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: [California Republican Dana] Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy said, according to the report.

The Post reports that Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) stopped the conversation immediately and made the members present swear to secrecy.

“No leaks,” Ryan said. “This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

[….]

That Kevin McCarthy (r).

This Kevin McCarthy (r):

Rep. Vicky Hartzler @RepHartzler
Yes, @GOPLeader McCarthy is absolutely right about this.

Their entire argument, which they bring up over and over again, is built on the fact that they do not want
@realDonaldTrump to be President.

No one should weaponize impeachment for politics purposes.

[….]

2:19 PM · Jan 23, 2020

So, quick question, was Kevin McCarthy (r) absolutely right in 2016? One or the other. Which is it? Just asking.

Representative Vicky Hartzler (r) [2016 file photo].

“…No one should weaponize impeachment for politics purposes.” Have you ever heard of Bill Clinton? Just asking.

There was much hilarity in some of the responses:

Bullsh*t, Vicky. Even after being stonewalled by trump, the Democrats have more than enough evidence to convict and remove him. The problem? Republican senators violating their oath to be impartial jurors in IMPOTUS’ senate trial. Willful ignorance!

Oh, def! Cuz all those things the President did – like ask for a “favor” and block all evidence and witnesses – are totally fine! They have no VALID reason to push to remove someone who abuses the power of their office if they didn’t like him to begin with. #ImpeachmentTrial

Because he broke the law! Let’s be clear about something. On Tuesday, every single Republican senator voted to block access to firsthand witnesses and relevant documents. And now they have to gall to say that so far in the trial, they haven’t learned anything new.
Traitors

Someone needs to design a test to see if any of these GOP reps have read or watched the House testimonies or read the documents available to date. None of these folks are taking their oaths of office seriously. Shameful. Vote the entire GOP out from all levels of govt.

They don’t want him to be president because he has committed crimes while in office, has obstructed Congress, the Mueller probe and the Justice Department at every opportunity. His charity was shut down by NY state and he was fined & banned from running charities there, so YES!

Funny, I feel like you all are turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to everything for the exact same reason. You are not on the right side of history on this

It’s time for Republican senators to put country before party. Americans deserve to see a fair trial, not a GOP-cover up on Trump’s behalf.

No, @RepHartzler – the argument is that the president shouldn’t coerce a foreign government into helping him cheat in an election. The argument is that the president should place the national interest above his own personal interest.

Their argument is that Republicans should place country over party rather than be complicit in a cover up.

yes, we do not want an immoral man abusing his office for personal gain as President.

why is that a problem?

He committed a crime that Obama would have been burned in effigy for. We knew the president’s character was questionable prior to the election.. but we know now FOR CERTAIN he’s a crook. This isn’t about popularity.

If you’ve checked lately, Donald Trump (r) is not popular.

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…

Exploiting Ukraine’s vulnerability as our ally is exactly what the president did. He unlawfully withheld aid (according to GAO) in order to obtain a sham investigation

We see through it, Vicky. No matter how much you all cry about anything besides the facts

You’re partially right on that one, we just don’t want a Russian puppet in office.

“Make America Great Again” – in Russian.

The American people deserve a fair trial.

But President Trump and Senator McConnell don’t even want to consider witnesses and documents.

Why are Senate Republicans enabling a cover-up?

Abuse of power/obstruction/bribery & extortion.

You’re the only one making this argument.

Well, to be fair, republicans are the only ones making this argument.

I’m sure witnesses and evidence would prove that…

More talking points handed down by your male superiors.

You are putting your party before your Country yet again. Uphold the Constitution. Quit drinking the Kool Aid. Do your job. Your part in this cover up will be remembered.

Their arguments are built on facts. Your specific argument here is built on an assumption: they are doing this for political gain. As an american i find your claims mere distraction from the reality: donald john trump acted criminally for personal gain.

Actually, and factually, they are saying they don’t think any President who acts in this way should stay in their position. Get the @gop, um, I mean goop out of your ears and pay attention.

Impeachment is weaponized to remove a bad president. Yes, it impeachment is a political process. Kindly explain to your constituents why you support him.

She got to ride on Air Force One once.

Didn’t @GOPLeader say Trump was paid by Russia? And now we find somewhere was McCarthy. #GOPCoverup #GOPCorruptionOverCountry #GOPTraitors

Heh.

Nonsense. Go re-read your oath. Try and live it or step down.

Fuuuuuck you!

Nope. Wrong again.

Oh ps your gopleader is a liar and a co-conspirator.

No one should be supporting a lying, racist, bigoted, xenophobic extortionist as president. But here we are.

Here we are.

You were there the whole time, right? Just asking.

Josh Hawley [2016 file photo].

Yesterday:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
#ImpeachmentTrial Day 1 = epic fail for House managers. Used 13 hrs to grandstand, repeatedly taking rebuttal time just to delay. Attacked senators. Alienated their audience. Admonished by the Chief Justice for unprofessionalism. If this is best they can do, should just stop now
11:21 AM · Jan 22, 2020

How about last night?

Oh, pearl clutching.

There was hilarity and much mocking of this partisan hackery in some of the responses:

Imma need to see some receipts…..oh wait. You voted against producing documents and witnesses.

I just don’t get the blind devotion to Trump. Explain it to me please.

Total BS. Fail by all 53 Republicans to defend the Constitution and our democracy. If Trump is innocent as you all keep saying, the evidence would exonerate him. Anything else is basically pleading the 5th.

WTH are you talking about?? The HOUSE has a boatload of evidence, and the self victimized Senate are the ones unwilling to review the evidence, even to the point of not allowing it OR witness in a TRIAL. “Sorry”

My husband and I watched 90% of the Trump trial yesterday. Here’s what we thought: Dems seek the truth, Republicans are covering up Trump’s abuse of power and obstruction.

Americans want documents and witnesses. We want facts. We want the truth. We want a true and real trial. We don’t want a cover up.

Our democracy is worth it! #ImpeachmentHearings

They did a remarkable job. They are laying out a strong case. Why hide the documents that prove the truth? Why hide them? There is only one reason and it’s obvious what that reason is. You’re a lawyer. It’s obvious they are lying and don’t want those notes to prove they are lying.

What would we do without Republican Poutrage?

It keeps both the fainting couch and vapors industries alive!!

“I was GOING to convict, but your deeply uncivil language FORCED me to install Stalin!”

Just saw you on C-Span. Did you somehow miss every single intelligence agency agree that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help Trump? Even Pompeo! This is about a corrupt man, being corrupt 24/7. You’re either too stupid for the senate or completely amoral.

It could possibly be both.

Correction: both counsels were admonished.

“I think it is appropriate for me to admonish both the House managers and the President’s counsel in equal terms to remember that they are addressing the world’s greatest deliberative body.”

Heh. And we should probably admonish the Chief Justice for his inaccurate statement.

#EpicFail of the @GOP. You just stood on C-Span and said that the special counsel found “no collusion.” He found open cooperation despite individuals who actually lied in their interview. He also found 10 instances of open obstruction. There is no call ”transcript” either. @POTUS

You know what is unprofessional? This tweet. At least pretend you are taking this seriously.

What did you watch?
The chief justice told both sides to cool it
“. . . to admonish both the house managers and the president’s counsel in equal terms . . .”

One side told verified lies and was unprepared.
The other side showed evidence from sworn testimony & were prepared.

Well, there is the cloakroom.

trump just said he had all the materials. If he sooooo innocent than why not release the documents and question Bolton, etc. You are the embarrassment.

Ah the WH Lawyers were admonished as well – you see Josh some of us are watching – tell the truth because we will call you on it! If you like I can clip Roberts admonishing both sides from CSPAN if you like!

Either speak like a professional, hold a fair trial, and decide the case on the merits, or resign.

Last I checked, the House managers played out the cards they have, namely the proven truth. The fact you don’t believe proven facts is on you. Mitch wants a trial with no witnesses? He doesn’t want to require the W-H to release the subpoenaed documents? Why? Trump has them.

Trump admitted in Davos this morning that he does have all the documents but Congress can’t have them? This is a mockery of a trial, run by a guy who loves breaking the rules and is proud of it. Will Mitch allow new info? Nope…He knows none of it is exculpatory. Nice try Josh.

That’s right. Cheat and brag about it. Puff up when you frustrate your opposition. Just remember, the president doesn’t care about the law and he doesn’t care about you.

Josh, you’re a contender to be the worst senator out there today. And that’s saying something. I don’t know how the hell you got elected, but as a Missourian, I’m so embarrassed.

That’s all you got? No arguments or denying substance of allegations?
When you can’t defend the facts, you attack the process.
Brilliant strategy josh, oh and very worthy of the “r” behind your name.

The fail was the Senate not voting for Fairness. #ImpeachmentTrial #ImpeachmentTrialRules We the people are watching. Fox News is not our only news source.

Remember that Oath you took…we all do. I can assure you that I will do everything I can to make sure you don’t get reelected when your time comes up. I’m sick of the cover-ups and it’s clear you’re up to your neck in this crap.

I voted against a fair trial and to do my job to protect the constitution because @RepJerryNadler was mean to me….. Forget facts, forget what’s right, forget what the American public deserves and wants…. a Dem was mean so I will do as they accused me of, a cover up

Oh, que up the #GOPFauxOutRageMachine
You are so afraid of Donald Trump you are incapable of doing your job as a Senator in a CO-EQUAL branch of government. Resign your position. We Missourians need a real Senator with a spine.

We had one. Once.

Go figure, the Senator from the Show-Me state standing behind the President who refuses to produce documentation or allow witnesses.

As a Missourian who voted Republican in 2016…that will not happen again in 2020. I am embarrassed that you are my Senator. Stop playing partisan politics and seek the truth no matter where it leads you.

He said “”It is appropriate at this point for me to admonish both the House managers and the president’s counsel in equal terms”, why did you leave out “the president’s counsel” in your discussion of the admonishment?

He’s a partisan hack? Just a wild guess.

The Chief Justice was clear in his comments that he was speaking to both sides of the case, not just House Managers or the president’s team. And some of the mis-truths from the defense team were pretty galling if you track these things. And I do.

Hawley, you have shown that you don’t care about impartial justice and only want to continue this partisan cover up. If you had any integrity you would resign into obscurity.

This constituent is embarassed to have you as a senator.

Do your job. Look at the facts. Quit twisting things and take your oath seriously. The Democratic prosecutors are laying out the facts. The @GOP is spewing rhetoric. And seriously? GOP senators hiding out while Schiff was speaking?? Grow up.

The other side of the coin is that you and all the Republicans are stonewalling, disallowing the admission of witnesses and documents. America wants a fair–keyword: FAIR–trial, and we’re NOT getting it.

The epic fail belongs to Trump’s lawyers. And Roberts wasn’t just talking to House Managers.

“I think it is appropriate for me to admonish both the House managers & President’s counsel in equal terms to remember that they are addressing the world’s greatest deliberative body.”

too bad Roberts doesn’t think it’s his job to admonish the republican members of the “world’s greatest deliberative body” when they walk out of the trial against the rules.

i am a part of the audience and you alienate me daily.

Ouch.

Epic fail is by you and your fellow cult members that only care about covering up the crimes of Trump and keeping your power to enrich yourselves. Resign since you lied already about being impartial. No trial has no documents or witnesses.

You forgot to mention that the Chief Justice admonished Trump’s attorneys. You can’t lie by omission. If this is the best you can do, should just stop now.

Epic fail on senate republicans. Nothing more to be said.

Moscow Mitch put together rules that would make sure this remained the biggest coverup since the beginning of the Republic. The whole thing is Pettifoggery at its best!

Maybe everyone could examine documents and listen to witnesses. You know, examine evidence like how legal proceedings work in the US. Just a thought.

Both. And trumps lawyers straight out lied about things and had to be fact checked. We are watching. We saw you just want to coverup.

With all due respect, Senator, I listened to the entire thing. Can you please tell me what constituted “attack”?

It was a very good presentation. I would know because I saw it. The American people aren’t stupid they can see it for themselves.

Allow witnesses and documents.

Yes, Josh Hawley was an epic fail for working to continue obstructing justice of a criminal president on behalf of dark money donors who love their tax breaks & obliterating protecting of their workers & the environment to increase profits

There’s that.

Uh, what were you watching…cause this wasn’t just on Fox. And specifically, what case like this have you tried as a lawyer?

Well?

You must not have been watching the same proceedings as I was.

There are rumors.

Stop defending the indefensible.

Oh look, Josh Hawley is attacking the process again.

Really? That’s your takeaway? I guess you missed a lot hiding out in the cloak & dagger room

You’re embarrassing yourself. And you’re embarrassing us.

My high school debate team would have wiped the floor with Trumps team, and we sucked.

Ouch.

But they have evidence, Josh. Lots of evidence.

And on and on…

WASHINGTON—Let me tell you something I know for certain. Listen, for this thing is true. There is a rookie U.S. Senator named Josh Hawley. He comes from Missouri and he is a Republican. He replaced MSNBC’s Claire McCaskill, who was a nominal Democrat, because Missouri is one of those states that has steadily lost its mind over the last two decades, which we’re not supposed to notice because it is impolite to all those nice people who carried the prion disease into our politics. Anyway, in a town full of thirsty people, Josh Hawley is a man crawling across the Kalahari. And this is the thing that I know for certain. The most dangerous place to stand in Washington D.C. is any place between Senator Josh Hawley and a live microphone….

[….]

Around midday on Wednesday, there was a bank of microphones and an exaltation of television cameras in the basement of the Capitol, where the little trams disgorge senators on their way to the chamber from their various office buildings. This is prime quote-stalking territory, even with the ludicrous restrictions that have been put in place, especially for these impeachment days. The microphones and cameras had been lined up for a scheduled press conference with the House managers of the impeachment trial. They were running a little late. Meanwhile, Hawley got off the tram, spotted the microphones and cameras, and reacted like a wolverine in a meat locker. His closing speed was nothing short of stunning. He was already at full boil by the time he’d reached his mark.

The people in the first rows of the galleries leaned over a little further, and the people in the rows behind them stretched and craned their necks. Down and to Schiff’s left, Mitch McConnell was holding the arms of his chair so tightly that his knuckles went bloodless and his lips were clenched tighter than his fingers were. You could not have pulled a pin out of McConnell’s ass with a tractor.

It was only a moment, and it passed, and McConnell soon slipped back into the placid mien of The Man Who Has The Votes. But the president* is guilty as sin, and they all know it, and they all know they can’t do anything about it because more senators don’t want to do anything about than do want to do anything about it. But the president* is as guilty as Jesse James, and they all know it. Every one of them knows it. They have to decide if they can live with that knowledge, and the tragedy is that they get to decide whether we have to live with it, too.
