it’s in their nature.

Yesterday in Jefferson City:

‘Won’t pass any bills this session’: MO Senate slams back into gridlock after map fight
BY JEANNE KUANG FEBRUARY 16, 2022 5:00 AM

[….]

“I can talk for a long time,” shouted Sen. Denny Hoskins, a Warrensburg Republican and Conservative Caucus member. “If that’s the game we’re going to play, we won’t pass any bills this session.”

No.

There is no such thing as a “moderate” republican.

Congressional reapportionment in Missouri.

Missouri Senate Majority Leader Caleb Rowden (r):

STATEMENT FROM SENATE LEADERSHIP:

Over the last several weeks, we have watched as business critical to MO citizens has been delayed by a small group of senators willing to send our congressional map to federal courts if they do not get districts that suit their ambition. #MOLeg

These Senators are also standing in the way of critical policies Missourians are asking for — election reform, banning Critical Race Theory, providing more choice for Missouri parents, and the list goes on. #MOLeg

Let’s see, voter suppression, misrepresentation of public school curriculum, and defunding public schools – yeah, those are not considered “moderate” public policy nor priorities by most Missouri voters.

So, which schools and/or school districts in the State of Missouri teach Critical Race Theory? We’ll wait.

State funded vouchers for private or parochial schools? Go ahead and try.

In the Missouri Constitution:

IX Section 8. Prohibition of public aid for religious purposes and institutions. — Neither the general assembly, nor any county, city, town, township, school district or other municipal corporation, shall ever make an appropriation or pay from any public fund whatever, anything in aid of any religious creed, church or sectarian purpose, or to help to support or sustain any private or public school, academy, seminary, college, university, or other institution of learning controlled by any religious creed, church or sectarian denomination whatever; nor shall any grant or donation of personal property or real estate ever be made by the state, or any county, city, town, or other municipal corporation, for any religious creed, church, or sectarian purpose whatever.

Last night:

William Eigel @BillEigel
Drawing a congressional map that squanders MO’s chance to send more Repub’s to Congress doesn’t just help Nancy Pelosi—it helps every socialist Democrat from Joe Biden on that are bent on changing the very nature of our country from rural farms to urban skyscrapers. #moleg
7:46 PM · Feb 10, 2022

All those unspoken parts.

Some of the responses:

Is that the rhetoric you were taught to spew by your ALEC handlers. It’s not very original, intelligent or true. Do better.

“changing the very nature of our country from rural farms to urban skyscrapers” has got to be one of the most nonsensical turns of phrase I’ve ever heard. I mean, I know what you were going for but woof.

Soooo, you’re saying you’re scared of….something??

People can actually live in skyscrapers. Farms are huge pieces of land that people don’t live on that also gets paid by the government to not grow shit

Guess what? Pelosi and Biden don’t live here. I do and you’re not listening to people like me. Stop this madness

You know that both skyscrapers AND farms are part of America, right? Your buddy Trump *literally* has many with his name on them.

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…

Is a socialist Democrat the opposite of an authoritarian Republican? Just wondering

Missouri is 40% Democrats and 60% Republicans.

A 5-3 map is fair and balanced.

A 6-2 map is unfairly tilted.

A 7-1 map is openly corrupt.

I wonder what it’s like to believe – I mean truly believe – in your own BS.

Authoritarian fascist is what you want. Just say so.

Do you charge Nancy Pelosi rent since she’s in your head all the time?

This state is represented by total wankers

You sound deranged. Changing farms to skyscrapers? Get a grip.

What we’ve all come to expect from Denny Hoskins (r):

Senator Denny Hoskins, CPA @DLHoskins
THANK YOU to everyone who has contacted me in support of a 7R-1D congressional map! Time to stand up and fight for liberty!
[….]
5:10 PM · Feb 7, 2022 from Missouri State Capitol

The irony always escapes Denny Hoskins (r):

Who can reply?
People @DLHoskins follows or mentioned can reply

Problem solved, eh?

[….]

We already did some of the math:

…The total Congressional vote for either Democrats or Republicans in Missouri in 2020 was 2,896,117. The total Congressional vote for Republican candidates in 2020 was 1,723,982 (59.53%). The total Congressional vote for Democratic candidates was 1,172,135 (40.47%)…

[….]More like 5 [Republican districts] (62.5%) – 3 [Democratic districts] (37.5%)….

We’ll finish:

40.47% > 37.5%.

6 is 75.0% of 8. 2 is 25.0% of 8.

37.5% > 25.0%.
[….]

7 is 87.5% of 8. 1 is 12.5% of 8.

40.47% > 12.5%.

Math is hard. Apparently more so for a CPA.

Even more meta.

Occasionally a post here will generate a lot of traffic. With that we sometimes get rambling illiterate responses posted as comments. There appears to be a correlation.

When anyone posts a comment here at Show Me Progress their email and IP addresses are attached to the comment.

All comments are held in moderation until approved. Illiterate responses are held in perpetuity – they won’t appear with the original post. However, we can and have devoted “Meta” posts mocking such content.

Early this morning:

looks like the publisher can’t do math either. looking at vote counts it’s 6 republican to 2 democrats . yup I’m from Missouri yup I can do math yup I can analyze numbers take your bullshit talking points somewhere else

Heh.

They appear to be incapable of showing their work.

Think about that telling exhibition of critical thinking skill for just a second.

State of Missouri – General Election, November 03, 2020

Secretary of State endorses 7-1 congressional redistricting map
An extra Republican in Congress would represent Missouri better, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft said.
by Ryan Pivoney Nov. 10 2021

[….]”The biggest question there is whether Missouri will stay a 6-2 state, with six Republican districts and two Democrat districts, or whether they will go 7-1,” Ashcroft said.

He said the state’s political leaning has been changing during the past couple decades, which could provide reason to change the current districts for more Republican representation.

He said he’s expecting a robust discussion on congressional redistricting, particularly in terms of how Missouri voters line up with current representatives.

“Just looking at my own position, I won statewide by 25 percentage points, which makes me say that it seems to me Missouri is a pretty Republican state,” Ashcroft said. “So in that regard, if we were 7-1, I think that would probably do a better job of actually representing who the people of Missouri are in Washington, D.C.”[….]

Democratic.

Jay Ashcroft (r), right wingnut, math:

60.505% is equal to or greater than 87.5%

36.371% is less than 25.0% and equal to 12.5%

This also explains how the U.S. Senate filibuster “works”.
