Republican economic policy.

No revenue, no society, no problem.

Yesterday:

Rep. Jason Smith @RepJasonSmith
Talk to most any American and they’ll tell you that the IRS is the agency they fear the most.

Democrats are giving Americans even more to fear by unleashing more than 600,000 new audits on families making less than $75,000.

Actually, the current U.S. Supreme Court.

Some of the responses:

the dark money donors who paid you to say this don’t fear the IRS because they know that people like you are in their back pocket protecting them and their money! Robbing from the poor and middle class to give to the rich is the @GOP way!

I am so grateful the IRS got the funds they desperately need. When I needed help this year I didn’t have to wait on the phone for hours.

Oh, and I don’t see you giving up your taxpayer salary and benefits any time soon. You like being on welfare.

Nope. Have nothing to worry about. Most of us that is.

Actually, the agency I fear the most is MAGA.

The only people I hear say they fear the IRS are @gop politicians.

The only people who fear the IRS are those people (usually the wealthier folks) who know they are cheating on their taxes.

As you people like to scream about: if you’re not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about. Amiright?

By “most Americans” of course you mean mostly white. Mostly rich.

I paid more in taxes last year than Amazon.

All thanks to the GOP Tax Scam that only helped the rich and big corporations.

The GOP put 2T on the National Deficit just for that. They put 8T total on the National Deficit.

Do you feel the trickle down they promised?

I do not fear the IRS because I am not trying to cheat on my taxes! GFY! Pay your share and shut the phuck up!

Pay your fucking taxes.

You are so full of shit.

You are a lying sack of shit!

Why would anyone fear the IRS? Oh, right, Republicans are always lying and cheating! Yeah, you guys should be afraid![….]Trump supporters are so stupid![….]

In case you were wondering, someone is winning the class war and it’s not you

This morning:

Rep. Jason Smith @RepJasonSmith
The Washington Democrats’ response to families who are suffering the worst inflation crisis in 40 years is to give the IRS even more money to go after those families.
9:03 AM · Aug 23, 2022

Do you know anyone who makes more than $400,000.00 a year?

As usual, there was much hilarity in the responses:

Help us out.
What is your income?
How much are your taxes going up?

#lie
-87k new over 10 years
-50k current employees scheduled to retire
-Your district has the LOWEST per capita household income… $31k & under are not getting audited.

#wedeservebetter
#puppymill proponent
#Jan6thattendee
#facts

I believe the response was extra money that helped lift kids out of poverty. I believe you fought against that.

Bro, you represent the poorest district in Missouri and continue to give tax cuts to the wealthy.

Those families aren’t cheating on their taxes. Stop lying. What are you scared of?

Is this the best you can do. This lie has been debunked multiple times.

If I am audited. I’ll comply with it. What’s your problem?

Really, the IRS has no interest in “going after” ANYONE who pays their taxes in the 1st place.
It’s not so hard to understand.

Enforcing tax laws shouldn’t scare anyone except people breaking tax laws..

As usual, this is completely false. The IRS audits irregularities, and not even on the first issue. Be honest with your constituents.

This is a lie. Those suffering the worst, are making nowhere near 400K. The IRS will be going after the tax cheats making 400K or more.

No. After people like you.

No, the Democrats’ response was the Inflation Reduction Act.
The REPUBLICAN response was to VOTE AGAINST IT.

Yeah, so gaslight somewhere else.

The #InflationReductionAct increases taxes on taxpayers making over $400K/year. That’s the top 1.8% of taxpayers — does that sound like the middle class?

The top 5% cheats their way out of $300 BILLION/year. It’s time they pay their #FairShare! That’s why the IRS needs funding.

America’s wealthiest 10% have 70% of all income and wealth.
So no, Jason.
The IRS will not be targeting the 90% of working families with only 30% of the income and wealth.

The GOP is terrified of their wealthy donors being audited.

They were paid to keep that from happening and failed.

IRS agents pursue and prosecute tax frauds. Once again, the Missouri GOP proves they’re not the ‘law and order’ party.

BTW, tax cuts do nothing to reduce inflation. The Missouri GOP are pushing for tax cuts for the wealthy at the worst possible time.
[….]

Jason why don’t you tell us about all the failing infrastructure in your district or how people from your district are literally starving and how the only thing you do is complain on Twitter that democrats are trying to help people.

I find your tweet of no help and wonder how you justify a 6 figure tax payer salary

You mean the 10 year plan to replace the aging workforce? Most Americans don’t make enough money to not take the standard deduction. You lie about everything, clown boy.

There it is.

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…

This arrived in yesterday’s mail, two weeks after the check:

“…We are fully committed to ensuring that you and your family have the support you need to get through this time…”

What a waste. What a putz.

The War On The IRS: Congress Cuts Its Funding To Lowest Level Since 1998

The massive 2015 spending bill that President Obama is likely to sign this week continues an ongoing effort to trash the Internal Revenue Service.  It is a cynical recipe for a self-fulfilling disaster: Give the agency more and more work. Cut its budget. Blame it for failing to do its job. Repeat.

House GOP Appropriators bragged that this year’s IRS budget is the lowest since 2008. But it is actually worse than that. In inflation adjusted dollars, the agency’s funding is lower than it has been since 1998….

Gee, you think anyone will make a connection there?

Follow the money.

The Red Lily, Anatole France

…For the poor it consists in sustaining and preserving the wealthy in their power and their laziness. The poor must work for this, in presence of the majestic quality of the law which prohibits the wealthy as well as the poor from sleeping under the bridges, from begging in the streets, and from stealing bread…

In Missouri and America the majestic quality of the law allows the wealthy and the poor alike to face no limits on the amount of money they can choose to contribute to a candidate or political cause.

Representative Vicky Hartzler (r) on the IRS, today via Twitter:

Rep. Vicky Hartzler ‏@RepHartzler

Just passed spending bill which stops IRS Conferences & videos, stops targeting by IRS, & prohibits IRS from enforcing Obamacare. 12:47 PM – 16 Jul 2014

I suppose in the future the IRS will just have to rely on spontaneous confessions from tax scofflaws.

As has become the norm, a few very interesting replies:

Alexandra ‏@aliemalie

.@RepHartzler aren’t you suing to enforce Obamacare? why are you now telling the IRS not to enforce Obamacare? so confusing! 12:48 PM – 16 Jul 2014

Heh. Good questions. You were expecting consistency?

Bob Yates ‏@OldDrum

@RepHartzler And is a great boon to tax cheats. 3:37 PM – 16 Jul 2014

501(c)4, campaign finance, IRS

Who needs logic or consistency when you’ve got nuts?

So, the teabagger enablers are complaining that the IRS 501(c)4 scrutiny cost Mitt Romney (r-1%) the election. Cause and effect? Power and greed trump logic every time.

From Tim F. at Balloon Juice:

….These groups all wanted 501(c)4 tax exempt status. This bracket of the tax code lets you both tax-exempt your donors’ cash and shield them from public disclosure. However, it forbids political activity by eligible groups. Nonprofits, for example, cannot endorse or campaign against a specific candidiate. If swinging the election was a goal for any of these tea party groups (cough) then they did not deserve 501(c)4 status in the first place. The argument destroys itself in a logical paradox and Shatner wins….

Heh.
