Every day I read a story about someone who has been detained who shouldn’t have been. Today it was an engineer from South America who was working in Portland and was legal. His car window was smashed in, he was dragged onto the street, shipped to the east coast and put in detention. He was released into the street days later with no phone and no way to get back. Until this BS stops, people are going to protest against ICE. The system needs to be fixed because it is broken. Brutalizing a vulnerable community is NOT a solution.

Do you agree with Trump that keep our military strong we can’t afford to pay for Medicare, Medicaid, and childcare? In the meantime, how much was your tax cut compared to a family of four with an income of $70,000.

The no taxes on overtime is bullshit. I worked almost $28k in overtime last year and it was a deduction of a percentage of my overtime, which after the time and a half and double time came out to be an $8k deduction which my accountant said might have changed my tax return by $1600, 20% of $8k. But I fell in the higher tax bracket so my return was about $2k less than last year. I’ve worked 7-12’s and paid over $3,000 in taxes in one week. So it’s bullshit rhetoric to get common people on the hook to excuse billions in tax cuts for the richest Americans at the expense of society’s most vulnerable people.

To clarify: 1. Re: No tax on overtime, the taxpayer can only deduct (exclude) the overtime premium, (i.e. the extra 1/2 for time and 1/2 from income) and pays the full income tax on the rest of the hourly pay. For example $6,000 of overtime would result in deduction of $2,000 from income. Social Security and Medicare taxes would apply to the full amount of the overtime pay. The states for the most part have not excluded the overtime premium so all of it would be taxed by the states.
2. Re: No tax on Social Security for seniors, there is no exclusion of tax on Social Security. There is a larger standard deduction for seniors which may eliminate the tax for some taxpayers, but would not eliminate tax on Social Security if the taxpayer has a certain amount of income.

I beg to differ. For the first time since I started working at 15 as well as being married filing joint for the last 24 years we OWED both fed & state this year.

Interesting because I am on Social Security and when I did my taxes, our refund was lower and we took the standard deduction.

How about being honest? The no tax on overtime is misleading. On the time and a half only the half part is no tax. No tax on tips is only up to $25,000. The bracket with the biggest returns is the highest bracket. Those in middle class and lower have to pay more taxes so the higher bracket can reap the reward. When I first ran for State Representative back in 1992, my aspiration was to represent my hometown of Tarkio, Missouri. I was a twenty-seven year old farmer who just wanted to stand up for a way of life and his community. I never could have imagined where that decision would take me.

For 8 years in the Missouri House and Senate, I fought for Northwest Missourians. From deregulating vehicle inspections, to standing for chain gangs, to securing funding for rural schools in the desegregation fight, I never lost sight of why I was sent to Jefferson City. Then, in 2000, the good, hardworking people of Missouri’s Sixth District entrusted me to be their voice in Congress.

For 26 years, I have had the privilege of serving, culminating in becoming the Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and passing some of the most significant legislation in our nation’s history. The responsibility entrusted to me is not something I have ever taken for granted. Not for a single day.

What I’m most proud of is the work my team did when Washington made life harder for the people of Missouri’s Sixth. Together, we stood with hundreds of thousands of Missourians in their toughest moments. We helped them cut through red tape and navigate a system that often felt stacked against them. We got them answers and fought to deliver real results when they needed them most.

I’ve said all of that to say this: After considerable reflection, 2026 will be my final year in Congress. This wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s the right one. I believe in making room for the next generation. It’s time to pass the torch and allow a new guard of conservative leaders to step forward and chart a path forward for Missourians.

That doesn’t mean I’m slowing down, not even close. As I enter the 4th quarter of my life, I have more left in me. As many of you know, I don’t let grass grow under my feet. We’ve still got a lot of work to do. I’m going to fight to protect Missouri interests as we work to shape this year’s Highway Bill. I plan to finish this last term the same way I started, full speed ahead.

Maintaining our strong democratic republic will always depend on good people stepping up to serve from every corner of our great nation. I’m grateful for my colleagues in both parties, for the people I’ve worked alongside, and even for the opponents who challenged me and made me better. Public service isn’t easy. It takes hard work, humility, a thick skin, and a willingness to fight for what’s right
.
At the end of the day, I’m still the farmer from Northwest Missouri. You’ll find me back home on the farm nearly every weekend, after all, it is planting season. In fact, I’ll probably be on a tractor this weekend. And come Monday, I’ll be heading back through Kansas City on my way to D.C. to keep doing the job you sent me there to do.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I fully support President Trump’s decision to send ICE agents to Kansas City International Airport (KCI) or any other airport across the nation.
While Democrats in Congress — including Sen. Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi & Rep. Emanuel Cleaver — continue to play political games and refuse to properly fund the Department of Homeland Security and TSA, American travelers are facing longer lines, delays, and real security risks.
