Hey Brandon Phelps (r), we hear you’re afraid of church ladies

They asked substantive questions which you had difficulty answering were mean to you.

Brandon Phelps (r) [2025 file photo].

Don’t be a such a snowflake, it’s actually part of the job. You know, being held accountable by your constituents.

Let’s see, on September 9, 2025 Brandon Phelps (r) voted to approve the Gerrymandering of congressional districts in Missouri and voted to restrict the citizen initiative process for Missouri voters.

We understand those rude church ladies had the temerity to ask you questions about that.

Then, this came in today’s mail, apparently paid for by a right wingnut PAC of some sort:

Oooh! “Liberty.” Ironic, don’t you think, considering Brandon Phelps (r) just voted to disenfranchise voters and restrict their voices in the citizen initiative process?

Oh, gee, the legislative agenda of AFP-Missouri. Did you actually ask your constituents about that? Just asking.

Do tell us about China

There is no such thing as a moderate republican. You’d think individuals and organizations would learn. Instead, they persist in wanting to believe in some mythical unicorn despite all evidence to the contray.

In today’s mail:

Venn Diagram of Right Wingnut Orthodoxy – not complete

A right wingnut republican touting an endorsement from the AFL-CIO?

Nothing from Missouri NEA, eh?

And just think of the juxtaposition of an endorsement from the Missouri State Teachers Association (MSTA) with “Defends the 2nd Amendment and voted repeatedly to guarantee Missourians right to conceal and carry”. Missouri Association of School Administrators, too?

“Protecting our kids from liberal indoctrination in our schools”? Is that book banning or book burning? Just asking.

Try as I might, I haven’t been able to find an International Allied Printing Trades Council label – “union bug” – on any of these mailings. Solidarity forever.

In the mail from a PAC propping up Dan Houx (r) in the 31st Senate District primary:

A nice reminder that right wingnuts have controlled the Missouri General Assembly for over twenty years.

“…funding the National Guard at our Southern Border”

What did Arkansas ever do to us?

“Protecting our kids from liberal indoctrination in our schools”

He doesn’t want them to read, you know, books.

“Defend the 2nd Amendment and voted repeatedly to guarantee Missourians right to conceal and carry”

….In an average year, 1,288 people die and 2,312 are wounded by guns in Missouri. Missouri has the 8th-highest rate of gun violence in the US….

….In Missouri, the rate of gun deaths increased 70% from 2011 to 2020, compared to a 33% increase nationwide. The rate of gun suicides increased 37% and gun homicides increased 130% compared to a 12% increase and 70% increase nationwide, respectively….

“Balanced Missouri’s Budget…”

Missouri’s budget is balanced every year. It has to be. It’s a constitutional requirement.

“Keeping boys out of girls’ sports”

Yeah, like we’re all really worried about that.

“Made Missouri the most-pro-life state in the nation and defunded Planned Parenthood”

All by himself. Uh, Planned Parenthood provides health care services to women. Cutting that access is nothing to brag about.

There is no such thing as a “moderate” republican.

Today at the Missouri Ethics Commission for a PAC propping up Will Scharf (r) in the republican Attorney General primary:

C232374 07/26/2024 Defend Missouri Club for Growth Action – Missouri Federal Committee 1700 Dogwood Farm Lane New Bloomfield MO 65063 7/26/2024 $301,000.00

[emphasis added]

And what is $4,466,000.00 in out-of-state money over that last two days paying for?

So, Will Scharf (r) believes in the divine right of kings and that not all people are equal before the law. Good to know. Fascist pig.

And, the Defend Missouri PAC doesn’t like Andrew Bailey (r), also running in the republican primary for Attorney General.

We can hope for a scoreless tie.

Pass the popcorn.

Rep. Rick Brattin (r) [2018 file photo – Jerry Schmidt].

We received a mailing piece promoting Rick Brattin’s (r) special brand of bigotry, apparently a franking piece paid for by our tax dollars.

The badly shopped photo seems to indicate that the Missouri Senate chamber has cheap, kid side desks (it makes sense when you think about it), or Rick Brattin likes to spend his time sternly lecturing Missouri school children when they’re not present in their empty classrooms.

And, of course, the piece lists Rick Brattin’s (r) phobias and legislative priorities.

Fought to ban drag shows from being attended by children

Rick, if you don’t want your kids to watch a drag show, throw your television in the trash.

Passed legislation banning pornographic material from school libraries.

Smart move there, promoting book banning. Rick, if you don’t want your kids to read books just home school them under your supervision.

Passed legislation to prohibit gender reassignment surgery and puberty blockers for children.

Sigh. Rick, just leave these kids and their families alone.

There’s a republican primary:

absentee ballot, COVID-19, dogma, mailing, Mike Parson, PAC, pandemic, right wingnuts, Uniting Missouri PAC, vote by mail

Oopsie.

In the mail this week:

Support Governor
Mike Parson
and the rest of your Missouri Republican Team

Our Republican candidates up and down the ballot are counting on you to cast your vote this year. Liberal Democrats hope you’ll let fear stop you from voting. Don’t let the Democrats win!

Stay safe. Vote by mail.

Wouldn’t it have been easier just to wear a mask?

“…Liberal Democrats hope you’ll let fear stop you from voting…” Projection, the republican way of life.

New this year in Missouri:
Vote by mail

Notary not required for many voters

Exercise your right

Don’t let the COVID-19 pandemic stop you from exercising your right to vote. If you are 65 or older, or are in an at-risk category for contracting or transmitting COVID-19, you are eligible to vote absentee by mail – without having your absentee ballot notarized.

Keep yourself safe

Voting by mail is easy, and it will help limit the spread of COVID-19. Simply fill out the enclosed application and mail it in to fulfill your duty as an American without putting your health at risk.

Help our nation recover

When you vote by absentee ballot from home and drop it in the mail, you can be confident that all ballots mailed in to your local election authority will be counted.

“…fulfill your duty as an American without putting your health at risk…” Wait, isn’t their dogma that the pandemic is “fake news” and that the risks are overblown? “…If you are 65 or older, or are in an at-risk category…” Wait, aren’t old people expendable?

Keep yourself safe while you vote

Voting by mail is convenient and safe for every voter.

Let your voice be heard by requesting and mailing in your ballot before the election.

Voting by Mail is Secure

Fill out the attached form completely and accurately

Mail in the completed form after signing and dating at the botton

Wait to receive your official absentee ballot

Dont put your health at risk.

Vote from the comfort and privacy of your own home to fulfill your civic duty and stay safe during the pandemic.

“…Let your voice be heard by requesting and mailing in your ballot before the election…” Before the election. The must really believe their voters are idiots. They may have a point there.

“…Voting by Mail is Secure…” Not according to Donald Trump (r) and his sycophant enablers.

The mailing had two Request for Missouri Absentee Ballot forms printed on it, one partially filled out with the name of a member of our household.

Paid for by Uniting Missouri PAC.

Note the conflation of “absentee ballot” and “Vote By Mail”. That ain’t the proper right wingnut Donald Trump (r) dogma.

Governor Mike Parson (r) [2018 file photo].

Gov. Mike Parson (r): safety, meh, voting, meh (May 28, 2020)

But, if they don’t, you know, the number one thing is their safety should be number one, so if they don’t, um, then, then, don’t go out and vote. You know, you know, I don’t know that I’ve ever heard myself say that, but, but, you know if you didn’t feel safe than I wouldn’t do that…”

Voice: When, when you ran your campaign [crosstalk] the only thing we heard was jobs, jobs, jobs [crosttalk], jobs, jobs. [crosstalk] You get into office and the only thing we hear out of you now is abortion [inaudible].

Voice: We were gonna fix it, that’s what you said….

[underline emphasis added]

…and it still is now. Representative Vicky Hartzler (r) sent out another campaign mailer style franking piece this past week.

The franking disclaimer and signature (condensed).

Details from Representative Vicky Hartzler’s (r) campaign mailer style franking piece.

Yep, abortion. And, of course, there’s the obligatory rhetorical beating of a dead horse intermixed with another wedge issue.

Are teh gay really so icky, Vicky?

It’s about jobs!

The full mailer:

Some of the “survey” questions:

4TH DISTRICT FAMILY VALUES SURVEY

…1. Do you support the department of defense’s repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy allowing open homosexuality in the military?…

…2. Should Congress pass a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman, or should it be left up to the states to decide?…

…3. Should the federal government provide federal funding for abortions or health coverage for abortions?…

Is discrimination a family value? Just asking.

“…allowing open homosexuality in the military?”

Uh, isn’t that actually to allow individuals who are homosexual to serve in the military without having to worry if anyone knows or not if they are?

Should the federal government provide federal funding for federal abortions or federal health coverage for federal abortions? There, it’s fixed.

It’s about jobs, jobs, jobs! Evidently not.

The working people of the AFL-CIO ain’t fans of Roy Blunt (r-lobbyists)

2010, AFL-CIO, mailing, missouri, Robin Carnahan, Roy Blunt, Senate

We received a mailing today from our brothers and sisters of the AFL-CIO explaining Roy Blunt’s (r-lobbyists) sad record and lack of support when it comes to working people and their families:

Important Union Message

Roy Blunt Failed to Create Jobs in Congress.

Why Should We Trust Him Now?

Roy Blunt Failed Missouri’s Workers

Roy Blunt’s anti-worker economic policies have failed Missouri. Now Blunt wants a promotion that he hasn’t earned. Here are the facts:

Failed to Create Missouri Jobs

Blunt opposed legislation that would create good-paying Missouri jobs. [H.R. 2847, Vote #991, 12/16/09; St. Louis Front Page, 12/20/09]

Failed to Protect Missouri Workers

Blunt opposed legislation to extend unemployment insurance to laid-off Missouri Workers. [H.R. 5618, Vote #398, 6/29/10 Washington Times, 6/12/08; CQ, 6/10/08]

Failed to Improve Missouri’s Economy

Blunt voted for the massive bailout of wall Street but opposed legislation to protect Missouri jobs. Time and again, he’s stood on the side of big banks and corporations over working families. [H.R. 1424, Vote #681, 10/3/08; gannet, 10/2/08; H.R. 2847, Vote #991, 12/16/09]

How You Vote is a Personal Decision

Your Union Has Endorsed Robin Carnahan for U.S. Senate

Vote Tuesday, November 2nd

And this mailing is a pittance compared to the special interest support Congressman Blunt (r-lobbyists) is getting from his inside the beltway Washington friends. From a Robin Carnahan (D) campaign e-mail sent today:

…Consider this:

   * Karl Rove’s Crossroads groups are spending $4.7 million on TV attacking me (they’ve already spent over $2.1 of that);

   * The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has already spent $1 million on TV attacks;

   * The National Republican Senatorial Committee just reserved $1.2 million for TV;

   * Congressman Blunt is the top recipient of lobbyist money of all House Members of Congress, and he’s number two in PAC contributions, giving him nearly limitless resources to spread lies about me and distort his own record.

What does this mean? A couple things: First, that the Washington Republican establishment knows that Congressman Blunt’s record makes him extremely vulnerable; and second, that they’re willing to spend anything and say anything to stop us from holding them accountable….

[emphasis added]

That’s serious money to prop up a Washington insider. I wonder who he’d be looking after?

Proposition C: dueling literature for an exercise in republican posturing

health care reform, mailing, missouri, Missouri Hospital Association, Missourians for Health Care Freedom, Proposition C

Before the August 3rd primary we received a photocopied flyer on our doorstep in the name of a right wingnut astroturf organization in support of proposition C and in opposition to federal health care reform legislation. Of course, it’s much ado about nothing because of the supremacy clause in the U.S. Constitution, but it does serve republican posturing.

Let’s take a look at the money.

They received some interesting contributions in the days leading up to the election – as reported to the Missouri Ethics Commission:

We also received three mail pieces from the Missouri Hospital Association in opposition to proposition C (and yes, they did spend a lot of money, too):

The MHA asks the question that the teabgger opponents to health care reform legislation never seem to want to answer: “Should Missourians who already pay for health insurance also have to pay for those who choose not to pay?”

The best quote about the outcome of the Proposition C vote, given the usual republican turnout in these August primaries: “It’s like expecting Red Sox fans to vote for the Yankees.”
