The replacement

I had a Biden Harris yard sign in my front yard. Over night on Friday someone stole the sign and wire, leaving the other signs.

That was then:

I always mark my signs in permanent ink, on the lower border and inside the sign “Stolen from [address]”. I figure if someone gets caught with it, there’s the evidence. I e-mailed the Warrensburg Police Department with a complaint.

Stealing or vandalizing a yard sign is a Class 4 Election Offense in the State of Missouri, punishable by up to a year in jail and/or up to a $2,500 fine. RSMo §115.637

We’ve been active in local, state, and national politics for over twenty-five years. Over that time we’ve accumulated the leftovers and detritus of years of campaigns in our garage. One of my proudest possessions is a vandalized Obama Biden 2008 4 x 8 sign, another is the leftovers from a 4 x 8 Kerry 2004 sign that was cut from the posts with a straight razor. We have zip ties, steel fence posts, old yard signs, steel yard sign wires, etc.

I knew a state party team was coming through town with a sign delivery on Saturday afternoon. I asked if there’d be 4 x 4 signs. I was told I could get one. And I did.

I prepared the 4 x 4 this morning with plenty of reinforcement.

This is now:

The only way this one is coming down is if some moron chains it to the bumper of the too expensive truck they’re upside down on their loan on and tries to rip it out.

Karma would be them leaving their bumper behind with the license plate still attached. All caught on camera.

Yard Signs: resupply (October 17, 2020)

Too bad they didn’t think of that when they dismantled the Post Office sorting machines in Kansas City

In late August:

USPS removes 4 mail-processing machines in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An official at the United States Postal Service confirmed Friday that four mail-processing machines have been removed at its Kansas City, Missouri, facility.

The removal of machines comes as part of changes made by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, according to a report from CNN.

The USPS official said that in addition to the four machines removed in Kansas City, the USPS had removed two machines in Springfield and one in Wichita “for efficiency and lower mail volume.”

[….]

“We are seeing the destruction of the postal service,” U.S. Rep Emanuel Cleaver II, a Missouri Democrat who represents KCMO, said. “I don’t think there are any questions about it.”

[….]

The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported Friday that Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft was notified in late July that the USPS may not be able to return all mail-in ballots to election authorities by the Nov. 3 election.

That delay could invalidate some ballots for the general election, when the country will elect a president and Missouri will elect a governor, among other races.

[….]

That was then, this is now.

A campaign piece, from Uniting Missouri, the PAC propping up Governor Mike Parson (r), arrived in our mail yesterday:

“Officials say you should return your mail or absentee ballot now to ensure it is received and counted in time.”

No shit, Sherlock. Who’s responsible for this state of affairs?

Wait a minute. In Donald Trump’s (r) world aren’t mail-in ballots rife with fraud?

This right wingnut mail piece is just oozing cognitive dissonance and gaslighting. Not that their target audience would notice.

Oooh, scary stuff.

Fascists gotta Fascist.

Secretary of State: Yinka Faleti (D) ad

Yinka Faleti (D), the Democratic Party nominee for Secretary of State, has started running ads in the Kansas City media market:

I swore an oath to defend our constitution. West Point. Two tours in Kuwait. After 9/11, a Battle Captain in Operation Enduring Freedom.

My name is Yinka Faleti and now I’m asking to defend our constitution again, as your Secretary of State.

See, Jay Ashcroft’s making it harder to vote, even during this pandemic. Opposing same-day registration, early voting, even mail-in voting.

Our democracy is only as strong as our right to vote. We have to defend it.

Exactly.

Yard Signs: resupply

missouri, signs, yard signs

The Missouri State Democratic Party has been sending teams out across the state to resupply county committees with yard signs, 4×4 signs, and 4 x 8 signs. This afternoon one such team made a delivery in Warrensburg.

Drive by, after yelling “MAGA, MAGA…”

Overnight someone removed the Biden/Harris yard sign from our front yard. We acquired a 4×4 replacement this afternoon. It’ll go up on steel fence posts tomorrow morning.

By the way, in Missouri stealing political yard signs is a Class 4 Election Offense, punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $2,500.00 fine.

We mark all of our yard signs in permanent marker with “Stolen from [address]”. You steal our signs, don’t hang on to them. You don’t want to get caught with stolen property.

115.637. Class four election offenses. — The following offenses, and any others specifically so described by law, shall be class four election offenses and are deemed misdemeanors not connected with the exercise of the right of suffrage. Conviction for any of these offenses shall be punished by imprisonment of not more than one year or by a fine of not more than two thousand five hundred dollars or by both such imprisonment and fine:

[….]

(19) Stealing or willfully defacing, mutilating, or destroying any campaign yard sign on private property, except that this subdivision shall not be construed to interfere with the right of any private property owner to take any action with regard to campaign yard signs on the owner’s property and this subdivision shall not be construed to interfere with the right of any candidate, or the candidate’s designee, to remove the candidate’s campaign yard sign from the owner’s private property after the election day.

It ain’t worth all the effort.
