Today at noon, in high humidity and a temperature in the high 80s, close to three hundred individuals gathered in front of the federal courthouse in Jefferson City, Missouri to rally in support of reproductive rights.

The street in front of the courthouse was blocked off for the rally. Several speakers addressed the crowd.

There have been a number of similar demonstrations scheduled across Missouri over the past few days.

“You can only ban safe abortions”

“My body, my choice”

“…for safe and legal abortion”

“…Keep your politics out of my uterus”

“I’m 14…”

“We won’t go back!”

“Im a woman, not a womb”

“…More regulated than guns”

“Keep your rosaries off my ovaries”

“Abort the patriarchy”

“Motherhood should be a choice, not a punishment”

“Keep your theology off my biology”

“You will never have the comfort of my silence”

“Keep your laws off my daughters”

“If it’s not your body it’s not your decision”

“My rights don’t end where your beliefs begin”

Nailed it.

“When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty…”

“Reasons women get abortions…”

“…Because you get none”

“Bans off my body” “…The elephant in the womb”

#resist, gun violence, guns, Madison, March for Our Lives, protest, Wisconsin

I can’t believe we still have to protest our nation doing absolutely nothing about gun violence.

Several hundred showed up at the Wisconsin capitol building yesterday afternoon to demonstrate against gun violence and our cultural inaction in addressing it – as one of several hundred such March for Our Lives events scheduled across the country.

Wisconsin capitol building.

“Why aren’t we safe…”

“No one needs assault weapons”

“Stop…”

“Protect kids…”

“Your prayer means nothing when you do nothing”

“Enough is enough…”

“…How many kids have you killed today”

“No more silence…”

“…NRA’s blood…”

“21st Century weapons, 18th Century laws”

“Policy & Change”

“Fighting for change because Congress won’t”

The work is not done. Not even close.

bigots, drag show, missouri, protest, right wingnuts, Warrensburg

“…One of them told [us] we were going to Hell if we walked in here. [….] replied that was probably so, but you’ll be there serving me coffee when I arrive…”

This morning a group of right wingnuts took it upon themselves to protest outside a scheduled Pride event in Warrensburg.

Name the band:

“…And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men…”

Was anyone forcing people off the street into the event? Just asking.

It’s a G-rated drag show. You know, pop tunes and Broadway musical songs with fancy costumes and stage makeup.

1982. Victor, Victoria. A film about a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman. You know, drag shows. Julie Andrews, James Garner, etc. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning for best musical score.

What’s the difference?

You don’t want to see it? Don’t go.

Otherwise, continue wearing your self-righteous public bigotry with pride.
