Yesterday in southwestern Missouri:

Steve Edwards @SDECoxHealth
Hospitals have required employee vaccination for decades. A patient should expect not to be exposed to a deadly disease while in the hospital.

At our final deadline, 64 out of 12,500 employees, 0.51%, chose not to comply with our policy and were discharged.

We are safer now.

Just a few of the comments:

Retired nurse here. Employers during my entire career required annual TB test, Hepatitis B titers & if it was low, boosters, childhood immunizations. Was tested for HIV, had mandatory physicals, etc. Would never want to be endanger my patients.

As a nurse I’ve taken multiple required vaccines or had blood titers drawn to prove immunity as a condition for employment. I’ve always known that goes with the territory, protects me, my patients, and my coworkers. And decreases sick time. Why the protests now?

Thank you for doing the right thing by your employees and your patients. Mandatory vaccination is not a new concept in healthcare. I have had vaccinations, titers, repeat vaccinations, more titers, and I never took it personally. Or politically. It’s a job requirement. Period.

Get vaccinated. If it’s time, get boosted.

And while you’re at it, wear a damn mask.

Like meat? Too bad, cause this bill taxes cow farts, costing farmers and ranchers over $6,500 per cow. This is the DC Democrats’ message to rural America.

One answer:

The Heartland POD @TheHeartlandPOD
Know how we know that? 5 minutes of research. 5 minutes. Politicians like @RepJasonSmith tell lies like this because they are willing to bet that folks won’t do that 5 minutes of research. But we will. Here are a few links on this issue.

Finally: “Infrastructure Week – Part 1” (November 6, 2021)

Joe Biden (D) [2020 file photo].

President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

Congress passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act), a once-in-a-generation investment in our nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness. For far too long, Washington policymakers have celebrated “infrastructure week” without ever agreeing to build infrastructure. The President promised to work across the aisle to deliver results and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure. After the President put forward his plan to do exactly that and then negotiated a deal with Members of Congress from both parties, this historic legislation is moving to his desk for signature.

This Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will rebuild America’s roads, bridges and rails, expand access to clean drinking water, ensure every American has access to high-speed internet, tackle the climate crisis, advance environmental justice, and invest in communities that have too often been left behind. The legislation will help ease inflationary pressures and strengthen supply chains by making long overdue improvements for our nation’s ports, airports, rail, and roads. It will drive the creation of good-paying union jobs and grow the economy sustainably and equitably so that everyone gets ahead for decades to come. Combined with the President’s Build Back Framework, it will add on average 1.5 million jobs per year for the next 10 years.

“…Graves added he felt Missouri was receiving ‘less than we should be getting.’…”

Think about that for just a second or two.

He didn’t vote for the bill.

Officials review what infrastructure bill means for Northeast Missouri
[….]

U.S. Rep. Sam Graves, R-Tarkio, said he didn’t support the bill because the positive aspects of the bill are overshadowed by not laying out how it will be paid for. He said he wished a bipartisan solution could have been reached, noting the legislation would fuel further inflation and supply chain issues.

“There’s some good things in the bill, but they didn’t come up with a real way to pay for it which is the real problem with this bill,” Graves said. “They slapped some budget gimmicks in there and called it a day.

“That’s going to fuel more inflation and contribute to the rising prices we’re already seeing under President Biden, which is only increasing the price to fill up your car or feed the extended family on Thanksgiving. We can’t afford that right now.”

Graves recommended constituents in his district reach out to local leaders as well as his office. He stressed his door is always open to hear comments and concerns.

“Much like the way they are accustomed to requesting federal money, folks will need to work through MoDOT and other state agencies, as well as the federal grant process. I didn’t support the bill because of the costs, but I’m going to fight to make sure Hannibal and the rest of North Missouri gets its fair share. If local leaders have a project in mind, my office is always available to answer any questions they might have. It’s been that way before this bill passed and it will always be that way.”

Graves added he felt Missouri was receiving “less than we should be getting.”

“Missouri is slated to get $8 billion out of $1.2 trillion. We make up 1.8% of the U.S. population. We got the short end of the stick,” he said.

[….]

“…We got the short end of the stick…”

Chutzpah.

This year’s Thanksgiving will be the most expensive in the holiday’s history. On top of that, Missourians will be paying more to even get to the Thanksgiving table. [….]

Some of the responses:

Nope. U should actually go shopping instead of repeating nonsense. I bought my turkey for 79 cents a pound and saw turkeys for half off. Also, gas prices are coming down and store shelves are filling up thanks to POTUS. Maybe do ur job and legislate not obstruct.

You have forgotten that Thanksgiving 2020 Americans spent hours getting COVID tests, if they could get to a testing site. There wasn’t a vaccine.

In 2021, 60% of Republicans aren’t vaccinated, making the pandemic longer.

I am grateful to spend Thanksgiving with the vaccinated

Did the new .13 per gal tax levied by Parson & the Republican state legislators do anything but add to the financial burden? Forget about that?

The Missouri GOP raised gas prices through a tax increase on gasoline. Missouri deserves better than Republican super majority.

I got a free 15lb turkey from Ibotta, free stuffing, free pie, free vegetables, free cranberry, free gravy. Turkeys in my area are .47 lb. Seems to me you just might be making your way on to the naughty list by lying to your constituents

Where do you shop Neiman Marcus? Ours wasn’t expensive at all.

Just so you know, I bought a frozen turkey for $.49 a pound. Also, ALL shelves are stocked.

Would you please share with us how much you and your family spent on Thanksgiving last year and how much this year?

You think it’s written off as a lobbying expense? Just asking.

The free market is a bitch, ain’t it.

Chevron & Exxon profits doubled. Hmmm [….]

Walmart disagrees.

That mean you will vote for BBB? Helping your constituents live better? Supporting their healthcare, childcare, elder care? Putting a cap on insulin? Or no.

Well?

yes, it cost us 800,000 of our loved ones, friends and neighbors due to misdirection on a deadly virus

Yeah remember last year when there was a raging pandemic, we had a President in complete denial and none of us spent the holidays with our loved ones?

We get it, inflation is the Republican talking point. My talking point is gratitude. I am grateful for Thanksgiving 2021, which will be with vaccinated family and friends. Thanksgiving 2020: Covid was raging, people were dying and Trump was lying. [….]

Imagine if Trump Senators like Blunt had taken COVID seriously and loudly encouraged vaccines and masks.
We could have been back to normal a year ago.

Oh bullshit. Am I paying a slightly higher price for groceries, yes. Is it the most expensive thanksgiving ever? Absolutely not, at least this year I’m not watching family members die from Covid that Republicans prefered to ignore.

You already tweeted this, we already explained how you’re a disingenuous piece of shit, so how about you shut up so we can all enjoy our holiday?

Yea life was so much better when everyone was locked in their homes trying not to catch covid instead of driving their cars driving cost of fuel to historic lows. If only we had an incompetent fucking useless president again so he could botch his response to a global pandemic.

They ain’t buying it, Roy.

More money than sense. Or is it just cynical posturing?

Yes.

The taxpaying public should have an unambiguous right to see what’s being taught to their kids, how schools are performing, and how money is being spent.

A few of the responses:

The premise of this “Bill of Rights” is built on the sense of loss of control. Your justification? “I’ve heard stories from concerned parents …” And for those “stories” you propose sweeping changes to a system that already has parental control.

I question your true motive.

How about you be open about your agenda in demanding accessed to things you already have access to? Not hearing anything from you about what motivates your orchestrated effort to undermine faith in public education.

This is 100% just another way to sow division and distrust in public schools so your wealthy donors can get another tax break for their kids’ private school. Of course those private schools cost 2-3x public schools and there’s no facts or data showing they have better outcomes.

Maybe Eric Schmitt (r) would know? Nah, that assumes a fact not in evidence.

Unspoken
