On Saturday:

Mark Alford
June 21 at 10:46 PM

Just got this text from Jewish friend in New York City whom we just visited in his home two days ago:

“Dear Mark- THANK YOU and thank God Almighty for leading President Trump to overcome the far right isolationist and far left Iran Apologists in the cracks of our government and order the final nails to be put in the coffin of Iran’s nuclear program. Shabbat ended at about 9:30pm tonight and we don’t use tv or phones of internet in the sabbath, so we turned on the news tonight to learn that this great achievement has happened. I literally feel like tens of millions of American and Israeli lives have just been saved from a nuclear holocaust that would have happened in a few years to come if Iran was not stopped. I am overwhelmed with relief and gratitude.”

New York? Uh, Mark, don’t you know any Jews in Missouri’s 4th Congressional District you can quote anonymously? Just asking.

Performative eschatological bullshit :

We’re not a prop for your apocalyptic right wingnut fever dream (October 21, 2023)

“…that would have happened in a few years to come if Iran was not stopped…”

So, then, why wasn’t Congress asked for approval as required by law if the threat was “…in a few years to come…”? Not yesterday, not tomorrow, but “…in a few years to come…”

Some of the responses to Mark Alford (r):

Praise God! Great stuff Mark! Prayers my friend for you and your decisions for Christians worldwide. 👍🔥🙏👊

Yeah, those Jews are just props.

Didn’t he run on “we need to focus on the people here”?

I can make up quotes too!

Anonymous quotes.

All except he needed congressional approval to do what he did!

There’s that.

We have friends in Israel… They are grateful, too.

Didn’t ask their friends in Iran. Oh, wait…

Being Jewish doesn’t mean endorsing endless war or blind loyalty to Israel’s government. Quoting one Zionist friend isn’t justification for reckless escalation—it’s propaganda dressed as policy.

right?! His own people told him that 2 weeks ago. They do not have nuclear capability or weapons presently. Trump and his tech “brologarchs” are the only clear and present danger to this country.

History repeating itself. We lost too many lives in Iraq because of a lie.

Don’t forget that the same political leaders who are condemning the strike on Iran are the same ones that have been wanting the US to get involved in the Ukraine-Russia war and continually voting to fund that war. I am not for war at all but if taking out nuclear development facilities and bio labs keeps the world safer then perhaps those targeted attacks need to occur. Hopefully the message got delivered. Our biggest threat is the sleeper cells that have imbedded in our country due to the open borders. Again, the same political leaders who are condemning the strike on Iran are the same ones protecting those terrorist sleeper cells.

Who said anything about bio labs? That’s so last Iraq War. Try to keep up.

you are exactly right we still have enemies within that are being protected by some people in our own government!

Dolchstoßlegende. If you’ve ever wondered what you would have done had you lived in Germany in the 1930s, you’re doing it now.

There’s a reason there’s a right way to do things. An illegal war mongerer creating a war without Congress is not what we as a country need. He has put our troops and American in harms way.
He obviously planned this, building up troops, ships, and arsenal in that region specific, for months.
Stop justifying an illegal act, again.

What a disgusting American! You just said on TV that President Biden left American Servicemen in Afghanistan to die. Disgraceful comment.

T did not have the authority to do this on his own. He has gone so far rogue that if he isn’t reigned in by people like you, Mark, America is going to pay a price higher than anyone wants. Even most Republicans.
There is a reason people were protesting against kings/dictators. He has become a one-man band and has bypassed the power YOU are supposed to have. Even if you were going to support this move, he should have consulted Congress but did not. How does it feel to be basically powerless and ineffective?

Congress is supposed to be the ones to approve war not the president but Congress doesn’t want to do anything anymore so why do we have them?

They like the health insurance.

unfortunately, this is what flailing fascists do. If you can’t lead, launch missiles. That should keep everyone busy for awhile.

Now we need to lock and load. How many sleeper cells came into the U.S through our unsecured borders?

Do you mean those people wearing masks who are kidnapping people of the streets? Just asking.

“…Mike will work tirelessly to bring about Peace in the Middle East!…” How, exactly? Just asking.

Sixteen years ago:

Mike Huckabee (r) [2008 file photo].

A news item today:

Trump picks Mike Huckabee as US ambassador to Israel

President-elect Trump announced Tuesday he will nominate former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) to serve as ambassador to Israel, a major diplomatic role that will take on added importance amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.

“Mike has been a great public servant, Governor, and Leader in Faith for many years,” Trump said in a statement. “He loves Israel, and the people of Israel, and likewise, the people of Israel love him. Mike will work tirelessly to bring about Peace in the Middle East!”

The Senator (r) doth protest too much, methinks.

Josh Hawley [2016 file photo].

This morning:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
Anti-Semitic “dog whistle”? Delivered at a conference organized by an Israeli Jew, to an audience of many Jewish-Americans, and from a guy who has been an ardent advocate of the state of Israel and the Jewish people? Nice try.

“…Delivered at a conference organized by a[n] [far right wingnut] Israeli Jew…” Fixed it for you.

When the Dog Whistle Is Silver-Plated & Hand-Chased: Conservative Thinking At Its “Best”

It goes deeper than just an anti semitic dog whistle. The founders that crafted the political theory of the new nation, as seen in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, revered such Roman Stoic philosophers such as Seneca and Cicero and Marcus Aurelius. Ideas such as “All men are created equal” and appealing to “a decent respect to the opinions of mankind” and “let Facts be submitted to a candid world” are deeply Roman Stoic cosmopolitanism. The idea that human dignity is grounded in reason is deeply cosmopolitan. The idea that humans, all humans, by the mere fact of being human, are endowed with unalienable rights is deeply cosmopolitan. These are some of the aspirational ideals and principles of the European and American Enlightenments. These aspirational ideals are the legacy of the founding and our inheritance, first as human beings and then as citizens.

Hawley’s declaration that “It’s time we ended this cosmopolitan experiment” comes eerily close to “It’s time we ended this American experiment.” As Franklin said when announcing a new Republic, “if you can keep it.”

“…from a guy who has been an ardent advocate of the state of Israel and the Jewish people…”

Until it’s no longer convenient, right?
