Yep, Senator Claire Mccaskill (D) called it a year ago:

Risky and Reckless.

In the news today:

He’s an imbecile.

Roll that around in your mind for just a brief moment. Then think about the entire 2016 election.

There’s no such thing as a “moderate” republican.

FiveThirtyEight (Nate Silver’s place) is keeping a running tally of the votes in Congress and how they align with Donald Trump’s wishes:

Tracking Congress In The Age Of Trump
An updating tally of how often every member of the House and the Senate votes with or against the president.

Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer (r) [2014 file photo].

In the House of Representatives [How often a member votes in line with Trump’s position]:

Jason Smith R MO-8 96.6%
Billy Long R MO-7 96.6%
Sam Graves R MO-6 100.0%
Emanuel Cleaver D MO-5 12.0%
Vicky Hartzler R MO-4 100.0%
Blaine Luetkemeyer R MO-3 100.0%
Ann Wagner R MO-2 96.6%
Wm. Lacy Clay D MO-1 14.3%

Representative Vicky Hartzler (r) [2015 file photo].

Representative Billy Long (r) [2013 file photo].

Voting for Donald Trump’s agenda 96.6% of the time is an unqualified endorsement. 100% is a true believer.

In the U.S. Senate [How often a member votes in line with Trump’s position]:

Roy Blunt R MO 100.0%
Claire McCaskill D MO 45.0%

Well, look at that, Roy Blunt (r) is no moderate.

Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D) [2016 file photo].

Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D) made a brief appearance this morning on MSNBC’s AM Joy.

Representative Cleaver first handled a question from Joy Reid on Senator Lindsey Graham’s (r) remarks that Democrats’ treatment of Donald Trump as president is unprecedented while republicans were “somewhat respectful” of Obama. The good representative from Missouri had none of that.

Right wingnuts nor most old media have no capacity for memory longer than two weeks. Joy Reid is a welcome exception in the media.

In answer to a question, from Joy Reid, referring to Donald Trump’s (r) tweet threatening former FBI Director Jim Comey with a “taped” conversation Representative Cleaver was of the opinion that republicans should stand up and speak out

On another question, from Joy Reid, on establishing an independent commission on Russia – Representative Cleaver stated, “When the nation is at its worst it needs a Congress at its best. And we’re not at our best when our whole, when one whole side of Congress has already decided that the president is just, uh, being beaten up unfairly. And it’s, and it’s rather sick.”

It is sick.

Representative Lauren Arthur (D) [2016 file photo].

Lauren Arthur – State Representative

I am disgusted. Republicans control Missouri government. They hold five of the six statewide offices, including the governorship. In the legislature, Republicans have supermajorities. They possess all of the power, yet they are beyond dysfunction. They cannot govern. They refuse to work collaboratively, even with other Republicans. And they disrespect the process.

While I take offense as legislator, I am disgusted on behalf of the millions of Missourians who will suffer as a result of the decisions made this year. Every person should ask him or herself, “Am I better off this year than last?” If you are a senior citizen, a person of color, LGBTQ, a student, a female, a union member, an entrepreneur, if you drive on roads, have a lower income, live in a rural area, suburban area, or an urban one, have experienced discrimination or suffered an injury caused by someone else — basically, if you live in this state — the answer is a resounding “no.”

That sums it up.

4th Congressional District, Constituents, missouri, social media, town halls, Twitter, Vicky Hartzler

You there’s just not enough civility in our political discourse these days, eh?

How can anyone tell when republican office holders can’t be bothered to publicly engage with any of their constituents who are interested in doing so?

There was this curious Twitter post on Tuesday from Representative Vicky Hartzler (r):

Rep. Vicky Hartzler‏ @RepHartzler
Thank you @CoMoProgress for meeting w/ me today. Was productive time hearing your concerns & discussing solutions. I appreciate your ideas.
4:45 PM – 9 May 2017

On reading this we thought, my goodness, did we miss the announcement of an open public town hall in the district? Have we all been too harsh on Representative Hartzler (r) for not scheduling any open public meetings or town halls during all those congressional breaks? Nah.

Yesterday we heard a little more of the story.

We were told that the meeting was held with six individuals, not the entire group. Representative Hartzler (r) and/or her staff also dictated no pictures and no audio of the meeting. The small group agreed – they did attend the meeting, right? Representative Hartzler and two members of her staff attended the meeting. Think about that for a minute.

The whole point of being a representative is to engage with any of your constituents who wish to do so, not filter who can or cannot participate. More so, groups which are ostensibly promoting transparency and access for all individuals who care to participate apparently acquiescing to such restrictive ground rules for a meeting are not serving their purpose.

They got rolled. There’s no record (yet) of what transpired. Vicky Hartzler got a reelection advertisement moment. For nothing.

Leave it to newbie activist progressives to bring a toy [brand name avoided] foam bat to a gang fight. Until they realize the latter is the reality of our current political environment they’ll continue to get used.

Donald Trump, Foreign relations, James Comey, missouri, Roy Blunt, Russiagate, Sergey Lavrov

The day before he was scheduled to testify about the FBI investigation into the Russian role in the 2016 election and the possibility of Trump-Russian collusion, FBI Director Comey was fired. Trump spokespeople then went on TV and said it’s “time to move on” from that pesky Russian business. One wonders if the White House really thought that firing Comey would squelch an inquiry that, given the abrupt nature of the firing and its bizarre rationale, we have no recourse but to conclude is really close to putting the Big Orange Daddy on the hot-seat. .

And what does our GOP Senator Roy Blunt have to say about this remarkable occurrence? Not much:

After Comey’s firing Tuesday, Blunt issued this statement: “Director Comey has served the country well in a number of different roles. Many, including myself, have questioned his actions more than once over the past year. I believe new leadership at the FBI will restore confidence in the organization and among the people who do the hard work to carry out its mission.”

Get the picture? Officer Blunt at the scene of a bloody accident, directing traffic to “move along, nothing to see here folks.”

Tell me this, Roy Blunt: who’ll be selecting that new FBI director? The President who is under investigation by the very FBI whose director he fired? The Attorney General who had to recuse himself from the investigation since he was caught playing footsie with the same Russians who compromised Trump’s former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn? The members of a GOP controlled congress who can’t seem to understand why stonewalling the appointment of a special prosecutor or independent commission to investigate the Trump-Russia love-fest might make them potentially complicit with treason?

Yeah. Just business as usual according to ol’ Roy.

Meanwhile at the White House, Trump celebrated with the Ruskies, specifically the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who, by all accounts, was in high good humor. Which, why wouldn’t he be? Maybe he thinks that Trump’s little show of dictatorial temper has finally derailed the inconvenient dust-up that seemingly soured his usefulness for for Russia. Of course he, and by extension, Putin, might just be gloating because they’ve proven they can get Trump to jump through Russian hoops at will. All joking (wink, wink) aside, Politico’s Susan Glasser points out just how bizarre holding this meeting, at this time was:

The images of Trump putting his arm genially on Lavrov’s back—and a later White House official readout of the meeting that said Trump “emphasized his desire to build a better relationship between the United States and Russia”—couldn’t have come at a more fraught political moment for Trump, amid a barrage of bipartisan criticism of his firing of FBI Director James Comey. On Wednesday morning before meeting with Trump, Lavrov even cracked a joke about his hosts’ political predicament, laughingly claiming not to have heard of the Comey firing while standing alongside Trump’s secretary of state, Rex Tillerson.

In other words, Lavrov was right where he has always wanted to be Wednesday: mocking the United States while being welcomed in the Oval Office by the president himself.

Shouldn’t we be asking Blunt if he really believes that Trump, who, in addition to his intellectual shortcomings, may be compromised by Russian entanglements, can possibly go toe-to-toe with Putin, who, morally repugnant though he is, is still a very smart, very devious man, a man who, in short, doesn’t just talk about the “art of the deal,” but really knows how to deal. Already, Glasser warns, “a number of Russia policy experts with whom I spoke […] worry, too, that Trump is allowing Lavrov—and Putin—to define the terms of his dealings with them on key issues such as Ukraine and Syria.”

Can Republican politicians like Senator Blunt continue to turn a blind eye to what is going on? Is it worth undermining the integrity of our government in order to milk the oblivious fool in the White House for their own domestic purposes?

4th Congressional District, Columbia, missouri, protest, Vicky Hartzler

The office was closed.

Close to sixty individuals showed up outside Representative Vicky Hartzler’s (r) Columbia distict office today to take issue with her support of Trumpcare. Since the office was closed the group lined up facing the traffic on South Providence Road. They spent over an hour and a half doing, holding signs and waving to the passing traffic – which, more often than not, leaned on their horns in support.

There were similar actions today at Representative Hartzler’s (r) district offices in Lebanon and Harrisonville.

Yes, I do this for free…

Vicky voted to make America sick again.

Anti-life, pro-death.

Coward.

No cuts to our care.

Messages left on the district office door:

Closed for meetings…

Vicki – I was here. Where were you [?]

I want the truth

No more billionaire welfare

Time for an independent commission to investigate Russian ties!

We expect town halls. It’s your job to meet us!

Save the ACA!

Vicky, Why do you support an American fascist narcissistic personality disordered DT who wants to emulate + repeat Hitler’s History? You do not represent me!

The First Amendment is an all American thing.

We estimate that the probability of Representative Vicky Hartzler (r) holding an open public town hall in the district anytime soon is zero.

Russia. It’s got to be about Russia.

From the White House:

The White House
Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release May 09, 2017
Statement from the Press Secretary

Today, President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office.  President Trump acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

“The FBI is one of our Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” said President Trump.

A search for a new permanent FBI Director will begin immediately.

The letter:

Read that second paragraph. Several times. He never got out of junior high school…

One of many reactions:

We’ll soon find out if we also have a compromised congress, in addition to a scandalized White House. 1/

Trump, with Jeff Sessions and his deputy’s help, may have just took a huge step toward putting himself beyond the reach of law. 3/

Roy Blunt (r) [2016 file photo].

Senator Roy Blunt on Facebook today:

Senator Roy Blunt — US Senator for Missouri
Discussed the widespread failures of Obamacare this morning on Fox News’ Happening Now. With less access and higher premiums, it’s clear the current system is just not serving Americans well and it has to be changed.
[….]

Some of the responses:

“Less access” should be on your business card, Mr. I-Don’t-Hold-Town-Halls / ignore email and snail mail from constituents/ unplugged my fax machine so I can forget that I’m about to ruin the lives of the people who voted me into this position… as a public servant, you’re an utter disgrace and I wouldn’t trust you to tie my shoe, let alone decide how we should structure 1/6th of the US Economy.

Single payer. Now. Let’s join the rest of the world on this, shall we?

VOTE NO! Do not repeal ACA until there is something better than what is offered now!

#TrumpNoCare

And your plan of taking away insurance from the poor so you can give a tax break to the rich is better how? Why don’t you have a townhall so we can discuss. Worthless POS.

Blunt is a paid by insurance companies to raise our premiums !

We need a public option. #SinglePayerHealthcare

The current system has saved many lives already. If you’re truly pro-life, you will admit that Obamacare saves lives. And the bill from the House will cause the loss of many lives.

explain and give examples who in Missouri has less care under the ACA then before? As to the cost who had cost go up on the same policy in excess of inflation. Stories I heard the old policy was in name only. The “policy” did not cover much, no preventive care/ immunizations, lab test, any outpatient.

Blunt needs to be voted out. He votes strictly by party lines and cares nada for Missouri constituents.

We’ll have to wait until 2022.

Your new plan has even less access and even higher premiums! Repeal suddenly became Repeal/Replace after the election. Stop lying Senator Blunt. I urge all Missourians to vote against him in the future if he votes for this plan in any form.

Again, we’ll have to wait until 2022.

Way to twist things to fit your agenda Senator. You & your party help spread the uncertainy & fear of failure until you make it a reality. We all see right through your lies & deception. You should be ashamed of yourself Mr Blunt.

Universal health care is the answer.

There are very real and life ENDING/altering consequences for this! Look in your heart, examine your holy book, think! What would your religion ask of you when confronted with a child who’s life could be saved except that he can’t pay for medicine? What would you heart tell you to do if you saw someone being beaten by their spouse? Is your first thought to check their pockets for cash when you find someone who is weak, sick, poor? Then why in the name of everything good can you not see that YOU saying ANYTHING positive about this makes you culpable for it?

Smh….. You can talk to Fox but can’t answer phone, fax, or e-mail.

Or hold open public town halls in Missouri.

Single payer. Not tax cuts for the rich.

I have medical insurance! I won’t have if you decimate the ACA. I’m a small business owner. I want to stay in business. Stop doing this!

Please don’t be in a hurry to dismantle what has done so much for so many! Just fix it. Unfortunately, it could have been done years ago if the Republicans hadn’t been so stubborn!

This message is brought to you by the people who payed for it…multi-national insurance conglomerates

There are problems but those were and are recognized. A giant tax cut isn’t the solution for providing low income health care efficiently

#alternativefacts

The present ACA with a few changes would work well for the majority of Americans. The trump/Ryan version is a disaster. So very disappointed with your views on this crucial issue. It seems that you and many of your peers have no interest or intention of doing what would benefit the majority of Americans.

Clearly the ACA served the majority of people who follow you on Facebook pretty well. When will you tell our stories? Here’s mine: I got great coverage for $75 a month when I lived in Columbia. That would have been impossible ten years ago. We are calling you and we are angry, listen to us or lose your job! Blindly following your party’s line to your constituents’ detriment goes against everything this country was founded for!

Easy thing to say when you don’t participate in the system and you’re too big of a coward to face your constituents.

Single payer.

Congress and insurance companies have spent all their effort to make it fail. Then act surprised or proud of themselves that they broke it.

Congress withheld money from the high risk pool which forced insurance companies to absorb more cost which forced them to drop out.

But some how there’s a lot more money for Trump’s high risk pools.

Except the way y’all are taking it looks like it’ll get worse

How you continue to be re-elected is beyond me.

It’s working better now than before there was a law, and with the tax break you want to give to your billionaire buddies will bankrupt us all!!!!!!!

How are you not hearing the American public who is crying out not to repeal and replace?? How are you going to sleep at night knowing how many people you are denying healthcare to?

I eagerly await your corporate talking points.

Interesting that you call ACA Obamacare. I called your office in Springfield yesterday, and when I called it Obamacare, they corrected me and said ACA.

Minor point to be sure, the major issue is that yes there are things about ACA that needs some fixing, however the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) numbers don’t support your claim that the ACHA would provide greater access and lower premiums BEFORE the Amendment that was tacked on and then pushed through on the House Bill. It’s clear that said amendment will decrease even further access to insurance as well as increase the cost, especially to those with pre-existing conditions as well as older American’s and lower income American’s.

Your constituants, as well as the entire nation will be watching what changes the Senate makes to the bill. Your office assured me they were rewriting. Whether the Senate version will be a good thing or not is yet to be seen. But be sure, you and the GOP will be judged on what the all male (where are the women?) committee comes up with.

Your years of obstruction, coupled with lack of cooperation by insurance companies are finally achieving your sick goal of killing ACA, regardless of who may be harmed. Instead of trying to help your constituents by improving the workable existing plan you continue to pursue the partisan goal of erasing any and all Obama legacy. And after all these years you don’t even have a skeleton of a workable plan? You are beneath contempt, unworthy even of the time I just spent writing this.

More like the widespread failure of Missouri to implement all the changes. I have Blue Cross insurance through my work (Tennessee) and the rates are less than half of what I was paying for the exact same Blue Cross plan here in Missouri. The difference is Tennessee did Obamacare the way it was supposed to be.

The simple, effective solution is to open Medicare to anyone, then set premiums and the existing tax to cover costs. Why not try to do the right thing for people, not just big corporations?

You lie. People will die!!!

ObamaCare is doing some really good things, though. I’m happy with several things in it.

The AHCA/TrumpCare, on the other hand, isn’t good at all. It doesn’t help people. And it’s going to harm many, many people. Including friends and family.

How about this novel idea….healthcare for everyone regardless of income…

Improving the House bill is gov speak for bigger giveaways to corporations and the rich. He knows where his campaign bribes come from.

How about you and your family stop taking so much lobby money and work for us for a change.

So far, it is serving me just fine. I get access to health care on my own despite my type 1 diabetes. Do you actually talk to people about their experience with the ACA or do you just assume that its a failure because Obama and the Democrats enacted it? Here’s a thought, talk to consumers, doctors, nurses, people who have chronic illnesses, those who might be able to educate you about something instead of pretending you know it all.

IS THIS A JOKE?! People are going to die because of this. In my opinion, any support for DONTcare (as a friend so aptly named it) makes you an accessory to murder. You should be ashamed!

Nah, Senator Blunt (r) isn’t going to be holding any public town halls in Missouri…ever.
