Statistics. Variables.

From U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) [Up to December 15, 2022]:

…Records checks of available law enforcement databases following the apprehension of an individual may reveal a history of criminal conviction(s). That conviction information is recorded in a U.S. Customs and Border Protection database, from which the data below is derived…

“…following the apprehension of an individual…”

So, the Border Patrol is doing its job.

And:

So, approximately 60% or more of the apprehensiona are for Illegal Entry or Re-Entry.

Leave it to Eric Schmitt (r) to play with repackaging in service to right wingnut political hackery.

Sure, enough, yesterday afternoon:

“…Records checks of available law enforcement databases following the apprehension of an individual may reveal a history of criminal conviction(s). That conviction information is recorded in a U.S. Customs and Border Protection database…” [CBP]

“Encounters” versus “Apprehensions”. Interesting choice of words there, Eric Schmitt (r).

Some of the responses:

So the Trump DHS was letting in more criminals.

When will you start helping Missouri residents?

Oh wow… Can you believe how many criminal aliens got away with crime under Trump?
It’s insane. The CBP was too busy locking kids in cages to go after the actual bad guys.

Thank God we have actual leadership now.

Yeah that’s not a biased data source

They did spin the labels…

Any chance you’re going to work on any MO problems? Probably just hide in your new position like Hawley and get rich while accomplishing nothing.

Thank goodness that the border patrol is working for the Biden administration. They have made so many more arrests and encounters. This is what happens when you have professionals running the gov’t and not the circus clowns from 2017 – 2020.

You are not die hard. You are blow hard.

The question remains, Christmas movie, or not?

Weird — the Heritage Foundation lists these as “criminal alien ENCOUNTERS”… but the USCBP data that it links to says that these numbers are “Criminal Noncitizen CONVICTIONS.” Almost like the problem is that Trump admin enforcement was weak. In any case, the graph is dishonest.

We noticed that, too.

Interesting enough this survey doesn’t say anything about the pandemic being rampant in 2020 . And isn’t it a good thing that border patrol stops people?

Would you prefer that border patrol *not* encounter them?

Who gives a shit when the worst criminals in the country are congressional Republicans?

We see what you did there.

Can you work on actually fixing shit here in Missouri instead of just mindlessly pandering bullshit buzzword topics on twitter?

Surely you jest.

Now Eric, I hate Biden but this just shows an increase of enforcement by border patrol agents.

Isn’t that what we want? Reduced inflows of illegal aliens?

Uh, well, whatever.

The disgraced former president was too busy arresting children and their families to concern himself with actual criminals.

Are you really this ignorant?

Yes, please move long because you’re a total idiot

Rep. Vicky Hartzler (r): Up, up, and away…

Desperate people always find a way. In 1979:

Harrowing Flight From East Germany

…Three hours later, after a 28-minute, 15-mile flight in a home-made, hot air balloon that, they hoped, had carried them and their families across that border and into a farmer’s field, the two men ran toward a stunned policeman, shouting, “Are we here, in the West?” They were…

Representative Vicky Hartzler (r) [2016 file photo].

Yesterday, via Twitter:

Rep. Vicky Hartzler @RepHartzler
(2/2) We need to ensure border patrol agents have tools to efficiently remove illegal access to USA. Waiting for environmental reviews of drug tunnels that have already disturbed ground & will ultimately be filled with concrete is unnecessary & threatens our national security.

And, a response wins the Internets:

Replying to @RepHartzler
So what you’re saying is that the Great Wall of Trump won’t work because people can dig underneath it? Wait till you find out about ladders.
