Yesterday at the Missouri Ethics Commission, from one right wingnut PAC to another:

C190964 04/27/2020 Don’t Tread on MO PAC American Democracy Alliance 1100 Main Street Suite 2700 Kansas City MO 64105 4/25/2020 $120,000.00

[emphasis added]

“Don’t Tread on MO PAC” couldn’t be more obvious. Well, alrighty then.

In 2019 the Don’t Tread on MO PAC received a starter contribution:

C180122 Chouteau PAC October Quarterly Report Don’t Tread on MO PO Box 26777 Kansas City MO 64196 08/21/2019 $500.00 Monetary

The address for Chouteau PAC (filed with the Missouri Ethics Commission)?:

MECID: C180122
1100 Main St Ste 2700
Kansas City MO, 64105

[emphasis added]

Wait, that’s the same address.

And in 2019 Chouteau PAC received money from:

C180122 Chouteau PAC 48 Hour Report of Contribution Received Over $5000 American Democracy Alliance – Ridgely PAC 1100 Main Street Suite 2700 Kansas City MO 64105 08/15/2019 $15,000.00

[emphasis added] [emphasis added]

Yep, it’s the same address.

And who funds the American Democracy Alliance PAC?:

C171141 American Democracy Alliance – Ridgely PAC 48 Hour Report of Contribution Received Over $5000 Herzog Contracting Corporation 600 S. Riverside Road St Joseph MO 65407 06/17/2019 $50,000.00

C171141 American Democracy Alliance – Ridgely PAC 48 Hour Report of Contribution Received Over $5000 Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. 700 S. Riverside Road St Joseph MO 64507 06/17/2019 $50,000.00

C171141 American Democracy Alliance – Ridgely PAC 48 Hour Report of Contribution Received Over $5000 Herzog Technologies, Inc. 600 S. Riverside Road St Joseph MO 64507 06/17/2019 $50,000.00

That’s just so…grassrootsie and…populist?

Funding astroturf is so easy, when you have a lot of money.

Today’s expression of moral outrage on Twitter.

A pop up social media account:

America’s colleges and universities have been turned into kangaroo courts, thanks to Obama’s 2011 Dear Colleague Letter. I’m a mom fighting a broken system.

Ironically anonymous.

Uh, if this has been a problem since 2011, what took you so long to express your outrage, Mom? Why the “emergency clause”?

Is it privilege and/or a lot of available money?

Well, the account follows Mike Pence, Betsy DeVos, and James Lankford (Oklahoma?), so the answer is probably “yes.”

Another circumstance? Do tell.

4th Congressional District, 501(c)(4), 60 Plus Association, Astroturf, missouri, social media, Twitter, Vicky Hartzler

Old friends from Vicky Hartzler’s 2010 campaign against Ike Skelton (D).

Astroturf refers to apparently grassroots-based citizen groups or coalitions that are primarily conceived, created and/or funded by corporations, industry trade associations, political interests or public relations firms.

That’s them, fake grassroots.

Today, via Twitter, from Representative Vicky Hartzler (r):

Rep. Vicky Hartzler @RepHartzler
Honored to receive the Guardian of Senior’s Rights award from the @60PlusAssoc today! I am grateful to have the opportunity to advocate for the senior citizens of #MO4.
1:48 PM – 27 Jun 2018

It appears that the “60 Plus Association” went through some reported board turmoil. They operated as a 501(c)(4).

Lawsuit Isn’t First Time 60 Plus Association Has Been Accused of Lying to the IRS
By Matt Corley
March 11, 2016
The 60 Plus Association, the seniors-focused conservative nonprofit that has spent millions on influencing elections, is in disarray. Last month, four of the group’s board members, including founder and longtime chairman Jim Martin, filed a lawsuit against another set of board members that includes 60 Plus’s president…

There is a 60 Plus Foundation.

The 60 Plus Foundation has a bare bones web site:

[….]The 60 Plus Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3)* non-partisan educational organization formed to identify these problems and needs, and to seek alternative solutions developed through the private sector, financed through the free enterprise system, which enhance the quality of life, dignity, and security of American senior citizens. The Foundation brings together segments of the public, representatives of civic institutions, leaders in private enterprise, and specialists in educational disciplines to restore the vigor, intentions and beliefs of our founding fathers, as those intentions and beliefs relate to senior issues. We work to rekindle a nation and a culture that assists, supports, and provides opportunities to its senior citizens, while respecting the Constitutional right of every citizen to live in dignity and thrive in a democratic society, free from government reliance.

Director and President: James L Martin
[….]

Jim Martin and James Martin. They’ve got to be the same person, right?

Apparently the “new” 60 Plus Foundation has applied to be a 501(c)(3).

We can probably guess that “free from government reliance” means they’ll gut Social Security and Medicare and then privatize them.

We’re not sure if it’s the same organization in the tweet or how that translates into Vicky Hartzler being an “advocate for the senior citizens of #MO4.”

Note the 60 Plus Association in the 2012 right wingnut funding maze:

The Koch network was one of the biggest political operations in 2012 and worked largely outside the campaign finance system, raising at least $407 million. Source: Robert Maguire with the Center for Responsive Politics.

Isn’t that special?

Just asking.

So, who funded this? Who wrote the check(s) to Americans for Prosperity Foundation – Missouri?

Their concept of diversity appears to begin and end with hardhat colors.

Who benefits from “right to get paid less”? It ain’t working people.

Their mail vendor managed to send this piece to a dues paying union household. They apparently have plenty of money to waste on propaganda.

Today at the Missouri Ethics Commission for an entity opposed to organized labor:

[emphasis added]

A New Missouri?

Oh, look:

Now they’re flush with cash.

What are they up to?:

And who gave them all that money? From March, in the Kansas City Star:

Nonprofit linked to Missouri governor raises new questions about ‘dark money,’ ethics
By Jason Hancock

JEFFERSON CITY
In the shadow of the Missouri Capitol, just a block from the governor’s mansion, sits the headquarters of a just-started nonprofit called A New Missouri Inc.

Founded by Gov. Eric Greitens’ campaign treasurer and housed in a building linked to one of Missouri’s most prolific political donors, the group’s stated purpose is to “promote ideas, policies and/or legislation to create more jobs, higher pay, safer streets, better schools, and more, for all Missourians.”

But its focus will be advocating for the governor and his agenda, a Greitens adviser said this week. And because it’s a nonprofit, A New Missouri can accept unlimited contributions and won’t be required to disclose who is giving it money….

Well.

From $0.00 to $250,000.00 with one contribution – with no way of knowing who actually anted up. “Missourians for worker freedom”? That’s serious fake grassroots.

Understatement (July 20, 2014)

Robert Onder, one of three candidates in the republican primary for the 2nd Senate District, had a good campaign fundraising day today as reported to the Missouri Ethics Commission:

C131072 07/22/2014 ONDER FOR MISSOURI Missourians for Excellence in Government 6175 Westminster St Louis MO 63112 7/22/2014 $10,000.00

A curious individual might ask, “Who funds Grow Missouri?” This being a progressive political blog, we have the answers to your campaign finance questions right here:

[emphasis added]

Okay.

Think about that for a moment. A single contribution so large that the Missouri Ethics Commission system can’t handle the extra zero.

Okay. You might also ask, “Who funds Missourians for Excellence in Government?”

Remember this?:

[emphasis added]

[….]

….No contributions yet for 2014. We’ll see. Astroturf in politics is always interesting.

Wouldn’t it be easier just to write the checks directly to the candidate’s campaigns? Just asking….

Well then.

And then there’s this contribution last month to Robert Onder’s (r) campaign:

C131072 06/30/2014 ONDER FOR MISSOURI Missouri Club for Growth P.O. Box 2068 St Louis MO 63158 6/30/2014 $15,000.00

[emphasis added]

Remember this?:

Understatement (July 20, 2014)

On Missouri taxes and education policies, Rex Sinquefield’s clout is growing

By JASON HANCOCK

[….]07/19/2014 6:11 PM

“….We are not a puppet of Mr. Sinquefield,” Abrajano said. “His contributions are truly his only involvement….”

Oh, but the rest of us are.

[….]

To recap, three entities each made large dollar contributions to Robert Onder’s (r) 2nd Senate District primary campaign. All three entities have at least one other person in common.

Our question remains, since there are no campaign contribution limits in Missouri, wouldn’t it have been easier to write just one check?

…For the poor it consists in sustaining and preserving the wealthy in their power and their laziness. The poor must work for this, in presence of the majestic quality of the law which prohibits the wealthy as well as the poor from sleeping under the bridges, from begging in the streets, and from stealing bread…

Here’s a modest proposal: limit campaign monetary contributions to eight times the hourly minimum wage. That is, a day’s wage for honest work – a “reasonable” amount available to every working adult in the state, no matter their economic status.

After that if you want to contribute more to a campaign using your individual sweat equity by going door to door, doing literature drops, walking in parades, stuffing envelopes, whatever, then go ahead and knock yourself out.

The law, in all it’s majesty, allows each and every one of us to contribute one point five million dollars or eleven cents to support our choice of political causes. It’s your choice…
