A Friday evening news dump *:

Department of Natural Resources moves LGBTQ exhibit to Lohman Building
Friday, September 3, 2021
Lohman is part of Jefferson Landing State Historic Site

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, SEPT. 3, 2021 – The Missouri Department of Resources announced today that an exhibit detailing the history of the LGBTQ community in Missouri has been relocated for display at the Lohman Building, part of the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site. The exhibit will be available for viewing beginning tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 4. (The Missouri State Museum and the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site will be closed Sunday and Monday for Labor Day.)

The Lohman Building is located adjacent to the Capitol and is easily accessible. Missouri State Museum team members staff and operate the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site.

The display was moved from the Missouri State Museum in the Capitol earlier this week after the department received complaints.

“We apologize for the way this unfolded,” said Dru Buntin, director of the Department of Natural Resources. “We agree the history of all Missourians is an important story that needs to be told, and we’ve made a commitment to work with the members of the State Capitol Commission and the Board of Public Buildings to do so.”

Careful review of the museum’s interpretive and exhibit guidance shows that exhibits on loan from other institutions like this one are often housed at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site.

The Making History: Kansas City and The Rise of Gay Rights exhibit is on loan to the Missouri State Museum from UMKC. The exhibit, which was produced by UMKC, was borrowed due to its connection to a notable date – the formation of the Phoenix Society of Individual Freedom – on the Missouri Bicentennial timeline on display in the museum’s History Hall. It is on loan through the end of the year.

“In response to a number of concerns, we made the decision to move the exhibit while we clarified and reviewed our internal process to make sure we were complying with state law,” said Mike Sutherland, deputy department director.

The Department of Natural Resources is charged with maintaining an historical state museum in the Capitol. The museum develops many of its exhibits, but it also accepts exhibits on loan from other institutions to expose visitors to a wide variety of topics significant in Missouri history and culture. State law requires the museum to coordinate with the Board of Public Buildings for the use of space in the Capitol. The board has delegated responsibility for that coordination to the Missouri State Capitol Commission.

The department invites the public to attend its Sept. 16 public meeting for the Missouri State Museum and Jefferson Landing State Historic Site. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Riverside Collections Facility, 117 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City. Following the informational meeting, museum staff will provide a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum’s collections area.

Another profile in courage.

“…’In response to a number of concerns, we made the decision to move the exhibit while we clarified and reviewed our internal process to make sure we were complying with state law,’ said Mike Sutherland, deputy department director…” Ah, pearl clutchers.

[House Minority Leader] Crystal Quade [D]
STATEMENT
Governor offers false excuse for pulling LGBT exhibit

“The Parson administration’s removal of an exhibit on LGBT history from the Missouri Capitol Museum was disappointing. That the governor lied about his reasons for doing so is indefensible. The statutory procedure the governor says wasn’t followed for approving exhibits does not exist. State law authorizes the Board of Public Buildings to allocate space to the museum but gives the board no power to determine the content of exhibits, and there is no evidence the board has ever done so. The governor had no justification for removing this exhibit and no excuse for not restoring it.”

Oops.

This afternoon:

Governor Mike Parson @GovParsonMO
Mandating masks for vaccinated individuals is sending the WRONG message to Missourians.
1:05 PM · Aug 12, 2021

Some of the responses

I’m vaccinated and welcome a new mask mandate!!!! Maybe try asking the vaccinated individuals what they really think!

With so many on your side of the political spectrum dissing both vax and masks for months now, we fully vaxxed folks cannot TRUST unvaxxed to mask up. Children are at risk. Need mandates to get these selfish anti vaxxers to do the right thing.

So what message is the right one? That you’re admitting that you haven’t learned a god damn thing? That you’re probably making a ton of money the longer that Covid goes?

You’re the human version of a participation trophy.

You’re going to ruin the lives of so many people including children.
[….]

10,000 Covid deaths in Missouri and you recently bragged about providing extra ambulances to transport Covid patients to neighboring hospitals. This sends the message that Missourians getting sick and/or dying is preferred over wearing a piece of cloth on your face.

Gladly will wear a mask to help others… You know sacrifice for others is something your demographic is supposed to understand

Nope! People who live in communities, participate in communities and shop in communities need to wear mask regardless of vaccination. The vaccinated are protected enough to keep them out of the hospital but they are as contagious as the unvaccinated. Hence the spread AGAIN!!!!

I hate masks but I put one on every time I go indoors in a public space. If the CDC is “strongly recommending” it there might be a reason to be concerned. This should not be a political sticking point. Mask mandates in schools make sense. The schools will be isolating in weeks.

Why? Virologists have shown that breakthrough infections and transmission can very much happen among the vaccinated. So, why wouldn’t we want a mandate so that there is just that much more preventative action?

Now, how could we go about granting the vaccinated freer access w/o requiring a mask? Hmmmm… Something passport, I swear. What was it?

Why? If Missourians ONLY get a vaccine because they think it means they will never have to wear a mask again, then you have failed in your messaging regarding the benefits of the vaccine. Obviously the current measures are failing us and something else is needed. Masks work.

Not if it saves lives by stopping the spread of a potentially deadly virus. Wearing a mask says, “I live in a civil society and care about my actions and how they effect others”.

Yes, but we live in Missouri.

Don’t you realize that the vaccinated people are wearing masks to protect those that are too Young or too dumb to get vaccinated? Do you honestly think we want to wear masks? For Pete’s sake we’re just trying to save peoples lives.

Many of us who are vaccinated continue wearing our masks, Governor. Now Delta is spreading and everyone, vaccinated or not, is again at risk for transmission. Universal masking helps stop the spread. I trust my kid’s infectious disease doc about this more than you.

Why the stubbornness? The FACT that vaccinated people can both contract AND spread Covid is the reason vaccinated folks should also wear masks until you can get the vaccine in enough arms to reach hers immunity. It’s not that difficult to understand – quit being obtuse

I’m fully vaccinated and wear a mask for a two main reasons -1) my young children can’t be vaccinated at the moment 2) since I can still catch Covid, my mask adds more protection for those who aren’t vaccinated, either by choice or because they’re too young

You right. Missouri as a whole doesn’t seem to acknowledge science.

YOU are sending the wrong message to Missourians

Problem is, there is no way to tell who is vaccinated without requiring proof of vaccination. And the same people who refuse to wear masks are the same people (for the most part) that refuse to get vaccinated. So we’re all screwed.

This absolutely ridiculous….mask mandates should be for everyone due to the fact of the high number of unvaccinated people. This is reckless. Have you no moral compass. What is wrong with you.

It’s to save children’s lives #ParsonIsAnIdiot

So what you’re saying is the state motto, Salus populi suprema lex esto, is a lie and the welfare of the people is not the supreme law. YOU are delivering the WRONG message, Gov. Negligent Homicide. Hope you are sued into oblivion for each and every death, and all damages.

Yep. Stepping on a rake.

Up to this point things had been going so well

This morning:

GOVERNOR PARSON ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL MUTUAL AID AMBULANCES TO SUPPORT HOSPITALS ACROSS STATE

Press Release
AUGUST 6, 2021

JEFFERSON CITY Today, Governor Mike Parson announced that Missouri is tripling the number of mutual aid ambulances that provide long-haul patient transfers to help reduce the rising COVID-19 caseloads straining hospitals. Thirty ambulances and more than 60 trained personnel are scheduled to begin arriving in five regions of the state today, August 6, 2021.

“The ambulance strike teams we positioned in Springfield have been extremely effective in helping save lives and ease the pressure on local hospitals,” Governor Parson said. “These 30 new ambulance teams triple our transport capacity and expand it to the entire state, as needed. Our health care professionals are performing heroically to save lives as the Delta variant dramatically increases hospital admissions. We will continue to support our health care heroes across the state.”

The new ambulance strike teams, provided in response to a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, include 20 advanced life-support ambulances, five basic life-support ambulances, five specialty care ambulances, and required medical and support personnel. They are expected to begin transporting patients as early as Saturday. The teams are tasked with operating anywhere there is a critical need in Missouri through Sept. 5.

Ambulance strike teams will initially be positioned in Regions A (Kansas City area), B (northeast Missouri), D (southwest Missouri), G (south-central Missouri), and H (northwest Missouri) and have the ability to move as needed.

Thirteen federally-provided life support ambulances in southwest Missouri will replace the 10 ambulances provided through the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management and an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request from the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). The Arkansas teams will depart for home today. Since they began working in Missouri, the 10 ambulances have logged more than 53,000 miles on 223 patient transports. Some of those transports required roundtrips of seven to nine hours or more.

“Delta is the most aggressive and transmissible variant of COVID-19, and it is more important than ever to take advantage of the highly effective vaccines,” Governor Parson said. “Vaccination is the best way to prevent serious illness from COVID-19. Vaccinations are free and available across the state, often with no appointment necessary, and vaccinated Missourians will have their shot at $10,000 cash or $10,000 toward an education saving account. Enter at mostopscovid.com/win.”

The Missouri Disaster Medical Assistance Team (MO DMAT-1) will continue to staff the state-run Monoclonal Antibody Centralized Infusion Center in Springfield. It reduces the strain on hospitals by treating COVID-19 patients who otherwise would require treatment in a hospital setting. Through Thursday, MO DMAT-1 staff had treated 243 patients at the infusion center since it opened on July 23. Monoclonal antibodies are proteins that can help your body fight off COVID-19 and reduce the risk of severe disease and hospitalization – if administered to high-risk patients soon after diagnosis.

The southwest Missouri ambulance strike teams and monoclonal antibody infusion facility were part of a resource request made to the state of Missouri by Greene County on July 14.

Some of the responses:

Thank You Governor Parsons for creating these new jobs. For a cow farmer your are pretty smart. More Covid cases more jobs! They will need to be transported to other hospitals due to Springfield being overwhelmed. You must be so proud!!!

Uh…

A declaration isn’t enough, but actual action is needed if you want to stop overflowing hospitals. Stop trying to do nothing to appease deniers.

Maybe you shouldn’t have let it get to the point of needing this but in doing something like that you would have actually been a governor.

You’d think.

And yet the census in said hospitals still going up.

It’s weird to talk about there being so many people in the hospitals in SW MO that you are having people transported to hospitals 4 hours away like it’s some great accomplishment.

Sounds like a great reason for you to have a state wide mask mandate and stronger stance on vaccination. How many people need to die?

How about a “please get vaccinated” to go with this senseless bragging?? [….]

Help us out, Hee Haw. Is this one of those GOOD NEWS tweets orr nah?

Can you say…….. crisis?

Who pays for these transports?

Which shouldn’t have been necessary IF YOU WOULD DO YOUR JOB.

Yeah, not seeing the positive of having to transport people due to overcrowding [….]

And what did you do to address this growing concern yesterday ??

Photo op chases photo ops

@GovParsonMO staff finds these fun field trips for him, like the corn cob fest. No hard questions. @GovParsonMO is Missouri’s #dumberdesantis

To StL? Where your AG is suing to stop a mask mandate that will save lives? Asking for people who actually care about saving lives.

Yep.

Yet 3 days ago he held a huge unmasked event in Springfield (which is in crisis) now he’s bragging about how fast ambulances are hauling extremely sick people out of here. [….]

So, you going to do anything other than tweeting at the problem? Maybe suggest or (gasp!) mandate masks for indoor public spaces?

Wonder what could be done to prevent the need for this?????

That’s great. How about a mask mandate to help slow the hospitalizations and give our medical hero’s some relief?

Nah, he doesn’t give a shit. Never has. [….]

Would have been better of you could have acted faster in granting resources foe the ACS. You dragged out the decision and they had to find another solution.

And . . . .? You are doing WHAT to help stop this?

Rural hospitals are disappearing, and you brag about a fleet of ambulances that can do round trips to the big cities in 6 hours.

Yeah, about that…

I thought the virus was a hoax and we don’t need to vaccinate, wear masks?

Transporting them outside one area does not reduce burden on healthcare workers, including this “strike team” (whatever that means) Do you think if Springfield #s are low MO will quit making national news and you won’t look like the terrible leader you are?

Too bad you failed to do your job. We wouldn’t even be seeing this.

Finish the tweet….

due to your inept leadership and not actually giving a crap about your citizens.

No hospitals beds available in Springfield? That is part of the reason STL and KC felt it was necessary to safeguard the limited urban hospital beds w. a mask mandate. Can you call off your attack dog @AGEricSchmitt with his worthless lawsuits so we can protect all Missourians?

There’s that, too.

And let’s not forget about the State Fair coming up in covid central. [….]

Your vaccination strategy FAILED!! As of 7/16/21 Mo vaccination rate – 41%. Your refusal to implement a mask mandate killed people !!In Mo New Delta Covid cases have spiked over the past month. One in every 350 people in Mo has been diagnosed with COVID !! Worst Governor ever!!

Why are you having to transport patients? Are they going on your bicentennial tour with you?

States, territories and the federal government should work together to simplify the federal workforce structure and create public-private partnerships to upskill workers that will bridge the ever-present skills gap and fuel economic recovery as the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
[….]
7:03 PM · Jul 12, 2021

As the “pandemic subsides”? Really?

Some of the responses:

Wait, Parson was just bragging about #Missouri unemployment rate, economic recovery (via U-Haul), signed a Fed nullification bill, won’t spend Fed funds people need, won’t fund education, healthcare, vaccination campaign, Health Depts, Child Services, etc but now this? Really?

Missouri ranks 49th in education. 49th in teacher pay. Number 1 for Covid infections. One wonders if the skills gap and education and covid infections might somehow be related??

You need to concentrate on getting Covid under control. If you don’t want to do it, find someone who knows what they are doing and hire them. This is only going to get worse as the weeks go on.

Missouri is still leading the nation in Covid. I know you still really want to pretend it’s over

The pandemic isn’t subsiding in Missouri. It’s raging. Pretty soon we’ll have our own variant because your neighbors don’t believe in science.

Says the guy who blocked federal law that defunds local law enforcement if they work with Federal law enforcement. My OFallon police chief resigned bc of it.

You think COVID is subsiding in MO? That’s almost as delusional as thinking you want cooperation between state & Federal govt. Didn’t you just sign a bill saying the opposite?

“As the COVID-19 pandemic subsides”? Sir you do know you are the governor of the state of Missouri where COVID-19 cases are currently increasing exponentially?

Umm. It’s not subsiding in MO.

WTF???

COVID is NOT subsiding in Missouri. It’s getting worse. Why would he say it’s subsiding? It’s a shitshow in SW Missouri where I live. Hospitals are overflowing. People are dying. Parsons has failed to respond in a timely manner to this pandemic. This is failed leadership.

Are we going to shift the paradigms and build synergy to optimize positive outcomes?

This is a bunch of corporate-speak BS that was copied and pasted by the Governor’s staff.

It was written by a committee and then forwarded by an idiot.

Subsides? @GovParsonMO perhaps talk to a few healthcare folks in Springfield. What a poor poor example you are.

Subsides? You need to go check your dictionary.

Continue to ignore Covid and you will have a lot of jobs open up. Republicans continue to not care about their own voters, it’s just amazingly stupid.

Where is Covid subsiding? Certainly not in MO under your failed leadership.

You have no idea what you’re doing. Please stop offering suggestions on what should be happening. You’re incompetent.

Covid has not subsided. Admissions are doubling again. Nurses have left because they are tired of the no vaccine no mask bullshit. There won’t be enough nurses to care for our aging population. Good luck you’re pretty much f@cked.

I see you’ve managed to incorporate seven bull$hit bingo terms into your run-on sentence tweet, including the ridiculous “upskill”.
AND you’ve implied (dishonestly) that the pandemic is subsiding, while you have a full-blown medical crisis in your state.
Liar.

Missouri counties are in the top 20 of all of USA for covid cases, hospitalizations, .and deaths. Obviously not subsiding. You are just another alternative facts Republican moron.

You really are a shitty governor.

Says dude who cut off unemployment so as to try and force people to take crap minimum wage service jobs. GFY

Subsides? Have you seen the numbers in Missouri? Christ you’re an ignorant asshole.

But…at least we know who are more likely to engage in behavior that will reduce the red voter pool in 2022. Good Job killing your voters off, Moron.

Missouri.
