SurveyUSA released a 600 sample poll of “adults” on September 30th taken in Missouri from September 27th through the 28th. The margin of error is 4.1%. The poll was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City.

President Obama’s overall approval numbers have continued to decline when compared to the August and July surveys.

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Barack Obama is doing as President?

All

44% – approve

54% – disapprove

3% – not sure

Democrats [37% of sample]

76% – approve

24% – disapprove

1% – not sure

republicans [30% of sample]

15% – approve

84% – disapprove

1% – not sure

Independents [29% of sample]

36% – approve

62% – disapprove

2% – not sure

There has also been a relatively small, though still continuing, decline in approval among Democrats. The republican approval numbers have remained essentially unchanged. The “Independent” numbers have improved. While the “Independent” numbers have improved slightly this subsample is larger than the August poll and contributed to the decline in the overall approval number. The difference between the August and September approval numbers is still within the margin of error in both polls.

Yep, a vocal minority of right wingnuts with their own cable news network are driving the agenda in this country.

Previously:

Plain speaking

Why parents need to keep their children from hearing President Obama say they should stay in school

The script of President Obama’s attempt to poison the minds of our children

On September 4, 2009 SurveyUSA released a 500 sample poll of adults taken in Missouri on September 4th. The margin of error is 4.1% to 4.4% depending on the question (due to the percentage differences in responses). The poll was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City.

President Obama plans to deliver a national address to school children on the importance of them taking responsibility for their own success in school. Do you think it is appropriate? Or not appropriate? For President Obama to deliver this address?

Democrats and republicans appear to be undersampled and “Independents” appear to be oversampled in this poll when compared with previous SurveyUSA polls in Missouri.

So, cable news networks enable them and our useless old media have been played by the lunatic fringe right. We are now all in the position of watching some schools and school districts cater to the whims of irrational wingnuts. Is this a great country, or what?

On August 31st SurveyUSA released a 600 sample poll of adults taken in Missouri from August 26th through the 27th which shows lower approval numbers (when compared to July) for Missouri Governor Jay Nixon (D). The margin of error is 4.1%.

The poll was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City.

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Jay Nixon is doing as Governor?

All

50% – approve

41% – disapprove

9% – not sure

Democrats [41% of sample]

30% – approve

59% – disapprove

11% – not sure

Independents [26% of sample]

47% – approve

49% – disapprove

4% – not sure

There has been a very large drop in approval from republicans, and significant drops in approval among Democrats and “Independents”.

Regionally there is net positive approval for Jay Nixon in Kansas City and St. Louis. There is net disapproval in the northern, southwest, and southeast regions of the state.

The crosstabulations by job status in the August survey:

Job Status

Student [10% of sample]

67% – approve

29% – disapprove

4% – not sure

28% – approve

57% – disapprove

16% – not sure

Retired [19% of sample]

64% – approve

27% – disapprove

8% – not sure

There have been significant drops in approval among the full-time employed, homemmakers, and the unemployed. Student approval is similar to July, but the disapproval numbers are up. Approval numbers among the retired remain strong, but that would change if anything were to happen to Medicare.

There have been observations about the declining approval numbers for governors across the country.

It’s the economy, stupid.

We Have A Jobs Problem

…lack of connection between Democrats and the working class reflects itself in all these jobless recoveries we’re seeing. Policy just isn’t made for the mass of people, but of, by and for the rich. And those rich people know that one party serves them much better. If Democrats don’t start creating policies that get regular people jobs, they will be doomed by fundamentals as surely as the Republicans were in 2006 and 2008…

On August 31st  SurveyUSA released a 600 sample poll of adults taken in Missouri from August 26th through the 27th showing the approval numbers for Senators Claire McCaskill (D) and Kit Bond (r). The margin of error is 4.1%.

The poll was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City.

Compared to July Claire McCaskill’s overall approval numbers have improved.

Claire McCaskill’s approval numbers among self identified liberals has improved.

Well, well, well. It’s a rarity when Senator “sit on the fence and bring home the bacon” Bond (r) has a lower approval number (barely) than Claire McCaskill. There’s been some slippage in the numbers for Bond among republicans and Democrats.

Kit Bond has more fence sitters. The decline in the “not sure” (the undecidieds) in Claire McCaskill’s approval numbers may be an indication of polarization. It is possible, as she has been subjected to public verbal assault by irrational teabaggers at her town halls, that the Democratic base is tending to reflexively defend her. And some republicans and especially “Independents” are going the other way (yes, some republicans are going into the approval column, too). Time will tell.

health care reform, Kansas, Kansas City, missouri, SurveyUSA

On August 13th SurveyUSA released an 800 sample poll of adults in the Kansas City DMA (television viewing area) taken on August 13th. The poll was sponsored by KCTV, Kansas City. The margin of error for the 800 sample portion of the poll ranged from 2.7% to 3.5% depending on the response results to various questions (as responses get closer to consensus the margin of error drops). The margin of error for the other portions of the poll of with smaller samples (for instance, those who have insurance) was somewhat larger.

Do you currently have any kind of health insurance coverage?

All

Yes – 82%

No – 17%

Not Sure – 1%

Age 18-34

Yes – 69%

No – 29%

No – 4%

Not Sure – 0%

The younger you are the more likely it is that you do not have health insurance. The higher your income the more likely it is that you do have health insurance.

The crosstabulations by type of insurance people have are quite remarkable:

How would you rate the health insurance you have now? Excellent? Good? Fair? Or poor? (margin of error – 3.9%)

respondents with Medicare

Excellent – 48%

Good – 35%

Fair – 15%

Poor – 2%

Poor – 3%

Not Sure – 0%

respondents who are self insured

Excellent – 25%

Good – 35%

Fair – 27%

Poor – 12%

Not Sure – 1%

Interesting. A government run health insurance program gets better marks. Go figure.

Do you think health care reform is needed? (margin of error 3.8%)

All

Yes – 62%

No – 30%

Not Sure – 8%

Doing nothing is not an option.

Should the government be involved in providing health care to Americans? Or should the government stay out of it? (margin of error 3.5%)

All

Should be involved – 45%

Stay out of it – 45%

Not Sure – 9%

Age 18-34

Should be involved – 52%

Stay out of it – 36%

Not Sure – 12%

Stay out of it – 25%

Not Sure – 12%

Income less than $50,000

Should be involved – 53%

Stay out of it – 36%

Not Sure – 11%

There are a lot of interesting crosstabulations. For instance, 41% of people on Medicare think government should stay out of providing health insurance to Americans. They like their government provided health insurance better than everyone else likes their private insurance, but they think government should stay out of it. Even though government doesn’t stay out of it for them. Go figure.

…They’re pissed that Obama is president. They’re pissed that McCain isn’t. They’re pissed that Jim Talent isn’t their senator. They probably voted for George W. They didn’t vote for Claire. They’ll never vote for Claire….

….No matter what anyone does they’ll be pissed and stay pissed. And they ain’t voting for any Democrats. Ever…
