The governor has net approval among all party affiliations in the May survey.

Regionally there is net positive approval for Jay Nixon across all regions of the state in the June survey except in the southeast, with the approval/disapproval numbers the same at 42%.

The crosstabulations by job status in the June survey:

SurveyUSA released a 600 sample poll of “adults” on June 17th taken in Missouri from June 12th through the 14th. The margin of error is 4.1%. The poll was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City.

There has been some erosion in approval when compared to the April survey. More on the May survey after this:

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Barack Obama is doing as President? (June 2009)

All

51% – approve

45% – disapprove

16% – approve

80% – disapprove

4% – not sure

Independents [25% of sample]

39% – approve

56% – disapprove

5% – not sure

There’s some slippage among “Independents”.

The May report is up on the SurveyUSA website, but has no release date. The interviews took place on May 28th and 29th. The survey has a 600 sample of “adults”, a margin of error of 4.1%, and was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City:

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Barack Obama is doing as President? (May 2009)

All

52% – approve

44% – disapprove

4% – not sure

16% – approve

81% – disapprove

3% – not sure

Independents [21% of sample]

51% – approve

41% – disapprove

9% – not sure

The “Independents” in this poll appear to be a little underrepresented and a little more positive than the bracketing April and June polls.

There is a distinct gender gap in both the May and June polls, with women giving higher approval numbers to President Obama.

Bond, McCaskill, missouri, SurveyUSA

On May 1st SurveyUSA released a 600 sample poll of adults taken in Missouri from April 24th through the 26th showing the approval numbers for Senators Claire McCaskill (D) and Kit Bond (r). The margin of error is 4.1%.

The poll was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City.

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Claire McCaskill is doing as United States Senator?

All

51% – approve

40% – disapprove

8% – not sure

Democrats [39% of sample]

72% – approve

23% – disapprove

5% – not sure

republicans [26% of sample]

21% – approve

71% – disapprove

9% – not sure

Independents [27% of sample]

53% – approve

41% – disapprove

6% – not sure

Compared to March Claire McCaskill’s overall approval numbers have improved slightly. The approval numbers among Independents has improved significantly. The numbers among Democrats and republicans remain essentially unchanged. It appears that whatever Claire McCaskill does, those republican numbers ain’t gonna budge.

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Claire McCaskill is doing as United States Senator?

Gender

Male [48% of sample]

55% – approve

38% – disapprove

7% – not sure

Female [52% of sample]

48% – approve

43% – disapprove

9% – not sure

Hmmm. There appears to be something of a gender gap.

Let’s look at the April numbers for Kit Bond:

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Kit Bond is doing as United States Senator?

All

48% – approve

39% – disapprove

13% – not sure

Democrats [39% of sample]

36% – approve

51% – disapprove

12% – not sure

republicans [26% of sample]

73% – approve

19% – disapprove

8% – not sure

Independents [27% of sample]

41% – approve

46% – disapprove

12% – not sure

The senior senator’s overall approval numbers continue their decline. So much for a legacy, eh? When you’re in the party of only “NO” it tends to have a deleterious effect on your likability. There is a decline in approval among Democrats when compared to the March numbers. When you’re not “bipartisan” and things suck, apparently you lose support among the folks that you’ve previously sold on your “bipartisanship” (well, that and pork delivery, too). No matter what Kit Bond doesn’t do, his republican numbers remain rock solidly unchanged.

There’s no gender gap for Kit Bond. The numbers are almost identical.

When compared to the March survey there hasn’t been significant movement in the president’s overall approval numbers.

There is no sign here of the gender gap from March.

Obama has net approval in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Northern Missouri – and a small net disapproval in the Southeast. He has significant net disapproval in the Southwest.

On April 28th SurveyUSA released a 600 sample poll of adults taken in Missouri from April 24th through the 26th which shows slightly lower approval numbers (when compared to March) across the state for Missouri Governor Jay Nixon (D). The margin of error is 4%.

The poll was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City.

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Jay Nixon is doing as Governor?

All

43% – approve

44% – disapprove

13% – not sure

Independents [27% of sample]

48% – approve

42% – disapprove

10% – not sure

Approval is up over March among Democrats, down among republicans (with a smaller subsample), and significantly down among Independents (with a significantly larger subsample).

Gender

Male [48% of sample]

59% – approve

30% – disapprove

11% – not sure

Female [52% of sample]

54% – approve

34% – disapprove

12% – not sure

There is a slight gender gap. These numbers are still very similar to Nixon’s overall approval numbers. The approval numbers among males hasn’t changed much since March. The approval numbers among female respondents are down a bit.

Regionally there is net positive approval for Jay Nixon across all regions of the state, though the Kansas City region numbers are the weakest.

The crosstabulations by job status are interesting:

Job Status

Student [10% of sample]

29% – approve

52% – disapprove

19% – not sure

Full-time [46% of sample]

56% – approve

34% – disapprove

59% – approve

29% – disapprove

11% – not sure

Retired [18% of sample]

73% – approve

22% – disapprove

5% – not sure

The approval numbers among students when compared to March have dropped precipitously. This is a small subsample and could possibly be an outlier. Retirees like their governor.

On March 27th SurveyUSA released a 600 sample poll of adults taken in Missouri from March 20th through the 22nd which shows high approval numbers across the state for Missouri Governor Jay Nixon. The margin of error is 4%.

The poll was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City.

Independents [20% of sample]

62% – approve

33% – disapprove

5% – not sure

There’s a net positive approval for Nixon across all party affiliations. The republican dominated owned and operated Missouri General Assembly should probably take notice. But they won’t.

Gender

Male [48% of sample]

61% – approve

31% – disapprove

8% – not sure

Female [52% of sample]

59% – approve

30% – disapprove

12% – not sure

There is no gender gap. These numbers are very similar to Nixon’s overall approval numbers.

Regionally there is consistency in Nixon’s approval numbers and they are all at a significant level of net positive approval.

In this day and age crosstabulations by job status could be interesting:

Job Status

Student [10% of sample]

62% – approve

27% – disapprove

10% – not sure

Full-time [46% of sample]

59% – approve

33% – disapprove

Part-time [7% of sample]

54% – approve

29% – disapprove

17% – not sure

Homemaker [12% of sample]

48% – approve

38% – disapprove

14% – not sure

Unemployed [8% of sample]

56% – approve

30% – disapprove

13% – not sure

Retired [17% of sample]

74% – approve

19% – disapprove

17% – not sure

Jay Nixon’s weakest numbers (still, at net approval) are among self-identified “homemakers”. The self-identified “unemployed” portion of the sample at 13% is strikingly similar to the difference in the Bureau of Labor Statistics national U-6 numbers when compared to the commonly used national “unemployment” number (U-3):

U-6 Total unemployed, plus all marginally attached workers, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all marginally attached workers…

If this 13% is an accurate indication of the total unemployed in Missouri the General Assembly would be well advised to stop fiddling while the state burns.

Compared to February Claire McCaskill’s approval numbers have dropped. There is significant erosion among Democrats and republicans. The approval among Independents remains unchanged (an even split).

Let’s look at the March numbers for Kit Bond:

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Kit Bond is doing as United States Senator?

All

53% – approve

The senior senator, he of pork and earmarks, has also had a significant erosion in approval numbers. The decline in approval among Independents when compared to the February numbers is remarkable.

Bond, McCaskill, missouri, SurveyUSA

On March 3rd SurveyUSA released a 600 sample poll of adults taken in Missouri from February 20th through the 22nd showing the approval numbers for Senators Claire McCaskill (D) and Kit Bond (r). The margin of error is 4% for the results on Bond and 4.1% for the results on McCaskill.

The poll was sponsored by KCTV in Kansas City.

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Claire McCaskill is doing as United States Senator?

All

54% – approve

40% – disapprove

6% – not sure

Democrats [33% of sample]

83% – approve

republicans [33% of sample]

35% – approve

62% – disapprove

3% – not sure

Independents [27% of sample]

44% – approve

44% – disapprove

12% – not sure

Compared to January Claire McCaskill’s overall numbers haven’t changed much. There is some improvement among self-identified republicans. This month’s survey sampling has a lower percentage of Democrats and a higher percentage of republicans.

Let’s take a look at the numbers for Kit Bond:

Do you approve or disapprove of the job Kit Bond is doing as United States Senator?

All

59% – approve

33% – disapprove

8% – not sure

Democrats [33% of sample]

46% – approve

47% – disapprove

8% – not sure

republicans [33% of sample]

76% – approve

17% – disapprove

7% – not sure

Independents [27% of sample]

57% – approve

34% – disapprove

8% – not sure

There are fewer “undecideds” overall when compared to the January numbers. Other than that Bond’s overall numbers haven’t changed much. There is an increase in disapproval among Democrats and an increase in approval among Independents. Maybe it’s the pork earmarks. There’s nothing like a local news story trumpeting that your senior senator brought home the bacon yet again.
