Some GOP leaders say Republican Santos ‘lied’ about career and Jewish heritage
Updated December 27, 20229:14 PM ET

Congressman-elect George Santos from New York now acknowledges he misled voters about big parts of his life story before winning a seat on Long Island last month.

[….]

During the campaign, Santos described graduating from Baruch College, said he worked for Goldman Sachs and claimed to own valuable real estate properties.

He now acknowledges none of that is true. He also admits his claim that four of his employees died in the 2016 Pulse night club shooting in Orlando, Fla., was false.

[….]

A growing number of critics, including some in the Republican Party, say Santos’ outright lied when he claimed to be “a proud Jewish American” and said members of his family escaped the Holocaust.

“His story about having Holocaust heritage and Ukrainian heritage, I just don’t see any evidence to support it in his family tree,” Megan Smolenyak, a forensic genealogist who examined Santos’ family records, said in an interview with NPR.

In a statement Monday, the Republican Jewish Coalition said Santos “deceived us and misrepresented his heritage.”

[….]

What a schmuck.

George Santos (r) should feel at home in the new republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

campaign mail, Johnson County, presiding commissioner, Primary, Republican, Troy Matthews

We get campaign mail.

The text was apparently written using a right wingnut Phrase-O-Matic© generic campaign talking points template.

“Our Johnson County way of life is on the line this August…”

You’re on the primary ballot along with four other republicans who have political views indestinguishable from yours. How does that work?

“…and Make Johnson County more conservative!”

That would be impossible, unless you’re planning on a significant proportion of the county’s population and institutions leaving.

“As a farmer, business owner…” “Put Johnson County farms and businesses first”

A little self-interest there? Just asking.

“Lower taxes and the quality of life” | Fixed it for you.

“Fully fund the police to keep us safe”

The Sheriff’s Office? Municipal police?

Lower taxes, increase law enforcement funding? How is this possible? Do explain.

House majority leader to colleagues in 2016: ‘I think Putin pays’ Trump
By Adam Entous
May 17, 2017

[….] A month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, one of his closest allies in Congress — House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy — made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.
[….]

Projection.

Some of the responses:

How much did the Kremlin pay you to tweet this? [….]

You don’t like real Presidents.
You prefer coup plotting Putin puppets, don’t ya Kev? [….]

The blame America first movement [….]

Siding with the brutal dictator who’s currently slaughtering the innocent civilians of a sovereign nation over your own President certainly is a take, Kev.

Fuck off, traitor.

I’m so old, I remember when the price of oil DOUBLED after Saddam invaded Kuwait and Democrats did not respond by trying to score cheap political points. try being a patriot for five minutes, Kev

A true Leader would pull the country together

Not sow division, dishonesty and disinformation. [….]

Kevin McCarthy is not an American representative. Kevin McCarthy is Putin’s representative.

Once upon a time you said that there were two people who Putin paid- Rohrabacher and trump. Then you said “swear to God”.
Well I guess we all know at least one other person Putin now pays, don’t we Kev? [….]

Defending Putin again

How much was your price ?

Your tweets should carry this disclaimer:

“SPONSORED BY THE KREMLIN”

What specific measures would you take that would actually reduce gas prices here?

Not things that sound plausible. Things that are actually in our control and that would actually work.

Does Putin like you to tickle his balls when you’re blowing him like this?

Kevin McCarthy is a Putin apologist.

Whatever you say, comrade. Putin thanks you for your service.

I’m not Putin anything you say as true

Defending Putin again. Today’s GOP, everybody.

You’re defending Putin?

So…. you are now defending Putin?
Who do you represent again?

How’s that Kevin? Give examples please. Oh wait, you can’t.

Hey, hi, you’re a traitor to the United States, have a nice afternoon. [….]

You’re a moron, Kevin.

Says the Putin asset

I see US sanctions on Russia hasn’t stopped you from getting your rubles.

Bummed your rubles are worthless?

Oh cupcake, we know exactly whose these gas prices belong to.

We see you.

So, this happened today:

Replying to @RepJasonSmith

Kyle Griffin @kylegriffin1
The Hill IDs the congressman who yelled “go back to Puerto Rico” at Rep. Tony Cardenas (who’s not from P.R.) as Republican Rep. Jason Smith.

Cardenas: “It’s sad that anything even remotely close to that would be said to me…

4:39 PM – 17 Jan 2019

Oh, my.

Jason Smith (r) represents the 8th Congressional District in Missouri.

“…Nobody knows in America
Puerto Rico’s in America!…”
– West Side Story (1957)

There are a lot of responses on Jason Smith’s (r) Twitter account:

You do realize literally everyone in the world would rather go to Puerto Rico than Missouri right? Fodor’s actually ranked you between Myanmar and Honduras in awfulness.

Respectfully, where’s your decorum as a House of Representatives’ member?

Complete lapse of manners to yell “go back to Puerto Rico” while on the floor of our Congress.

You owe the citizens of this nation, and their representatives, an apology for your rudeness.

Shameful!

IOKIYAR*

* it’s okay if you’re a republican

I can’t believe I have to admit you are my rep. You are also a racist ass. Resign you don’t represent our state.

Talk about embarrassing, your behavior is inexcusable.

You really shouted “go back to Puerto Rico?” To a minority colleague on the floor of the house? Boo.

Putz

Your crazy is showing buddy, might wanna tuck that back in.

Didn’t you know Puerto Rico is a part of the United States? You should be ashamed of your behavior. It was not befitting a U.S. Representative.

Heh.

Reprehensible behavior on the House floor today. Extremely disappointed but sadly not shocked. #racism

Thanks for making sure none of us would mistake you for a good person.

Ouch, that one left a mark.

Actually have you been to Puerto Rico? Lately? Helped out much?

I truly hope everyone calls you out repeatedly for your bad behavior. I read people didn’t know who you were, I guess we do now. Congratulations, you’re “that guy that yelled go back to Puerto Rico”. Not that impressive.

Does this rep know Puerto Rico is part of the US? That the people there are US citizens? Would he have told a Congressman to “go back to Sioux Falls”?

I heard what you said on the House floor. It was unbecoming of your title to behave in this manner. #PuertoRico = Americans. You spoke in a negative manner about Americans. Apologize then resign.

The people you represent must be so embarrassed by you. Very sad for them.

Resign you racist! Have all of you lost your minds??

You need to be removed from Congress!!
#Racist f*ck
You don’t represent my #America

Oh, my.

So does being from Puerto Rico somehow diminish his ability to legislate, or his humanity? Does it make him any less an American in your view?

Did you yell “go back to Puerto Rico” at a fellow congressman?

Apparently he did.

Republican Congressman is offended at the decorum of a colleague, yet shouts a clearly racist remark at a MEXICAN descended colleague to go back to puerto rico. You can try to spin however you like, but you were clearly going for racism Mr Smith.

Life in the minority is tough.

You shouted “Go back to Puerto Rico” to @RepCardenas.
– Puerto Rico is part of the U.S.
– Mister Cardenas is not born in Puerto Rico.

Did you really yell “go back to Puerto Rico?” Because if you did, I think you should resign.

Ridiculous. You yell at a House Rep to “go back to Puerto Rico” and expect us to take you seriously? Apologize.

You and your behavior today has been identified. I’m guessing you’re cool with your racism considering how comfortable you were screaming “go back to Puerto Rico” at a Hispanic congressmen. Nice to see such great workplace behavior.

There are hundreds of responses.
