“…Inviting stressed parents to tattle to the AG’s office is not the way to go…”

Last week we received a response from the office of Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt (r) complying with our December 9th RSMo § 610 “Missouri Sunshine Law” request for the contents of the illegalmandates@ago.mo.gov email address set up by the Attorney General to solicit complaints about mask wearing in Missouri public schools.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s (r) anti-mask public school complaint email address: illegalmandates@ago.mo.gov

One voice, of a generation:

[….]
Subject: your efforts re: COVID-19

Dear AG Schmitt,

I am the great-grandmother of five children currently attending Missouri schools. Thet are doing OK, so far, but your attempts to make mask-wearing optional in our schools worry me. Two of them have been diagnosed with asthma, which according to reliable sources makes them more susceptible to the Covid virus. One of them lives with a parent who has sever asthma. All of these children could contract the virus from other, unmasked children in their schools. Our public schools are tasked with providing a safe environment for education. If this cannot be done in the school buildings, they will have to go back to online distance learning, and we are already seeing signs that many, if not most, children lost ground last year, in spite of the valiant attempts of teachers to revise and manage this new learning medium. A safe, in-school environment is the necessary basis for children to learn well.

Last week we learned that state-rquested review of the data showed that mask mandates do indeed reduce incidence of infection and hospitalization. The Governor may choose to ignore this study, but you, in your position of responsibility, may not ethically do so.

As infection and hospitalization rates are rising with the onset of winter and the growing prevalence of the delta variant and potentially also the omicron variant, it is obvious that the cause of public health requires strong measures to protect the well-being of the whole population. We know from history that such strong measures (as in the 1919 influenza, the 1950’s poliomyelitis, etc.) can bring a pandemic to an earlier end. While many people may be inconvenienced and discommoded by such measures, when the pandemic is ended the people are grateful.

We have had too many deaths, and too many people disabled by ‘long Covid.’ We have had too many children lose ground in their education by the disruptions already resorted to. It is time to move on to a more practical and ethical approach. Inviting stressed parents to tattle to the AG’s office is not the way to go.

Sincerely,
[….]

And another:

[….]
Subject: tired of mask mandates

My name is [….] I live in [….] I am sending this email because these schools think they know more than I do about my children, well my great grand children.
I have had these children most of their life..one evr since birth. My complaint is involving the Washington School which is District 200 and the other one is with the Heasstart school through Missouri Valley community Action Agency. of Sedalia. they just started a mask mandate on Dec. 6th 2021. Enough is enough the headstart are putting the mask on as young as 2 years old…no these kids dont need this they go through enough just getting prepared for the classes.
Please help get these muzzles off our kids.

Oh yes just so you know the kids are being suspended and or sent home for standing up and showing the schools a copy of your letter…[….]stated you are not his boss and you will not tell him how to run his schools.
thank you for hearing me out…I just pray you will help these kids…
God Bless and thank you
[….]

The contrast is jarring.

“…Inviting stressed parents to tattle to the AG’s office is not the way to go…”

That’s on you, Eric Schmitt (r).

Attorney General, Corona virus, COVID-19, Eric Schmitt, missouri, Missouri Sunshine Law, pandemic, right wingnut, RSMo § 610

An unending sea of email.

On Thursday afternoon we received a response from the office of Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt (r) complying with our December 9th RSMo § 610 “Missouri Sunshine Law” request for the contents of the illegalmandates@ago.mo.gov email address set up by the Attorney General to solicit complaints about mask wearing in Missouri public schools.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s (r) anti-mask public school complaint email address: illegalmandates@ago.mo.gov

Continuing:

[….]
Subject: Springfield Public Schools
[….]

I’m sure you’re receiving tons of these. This was sent out in a text notification from school.

Yesterday, my daughter was sent home after spending 2 secs in the nurses office for “COVID” symptoms and was required to have a Covid test before returning to school even though ear ache is not a symptom of COVID. Her stuffy nose and headache might have but it turned out she didn’t have COVID or strep, and her symptoms were easily corrected with allergy medication immediately after coming home. I spent 2 hours waiting on the test to come back to be able to send my duaghter back to school. That same night, we got notification via texts that a student tested positive for Covid. I attempted to contact the principal to determine if my child was the student referenced in the text.

I’m suspicious as to whether or not they are reporting accurately and since your office has started forcing them to look at their COVID protocols, I have received more and more texts stating students are testing positive. Since Dec 3, supposedly 8 students tested positive. Before Dec 3, the last notification of positive was November 19th.

[….]

You’d think they’d be more happy that their daughter tested negative.

“…I’m suspicious as to whether or not they are reporting accurately and since your office has started forcing them to look at their COVID protocols, I have received more and more texts stating students are testing positive. Since Dec 3, supposedly 8 students tested positive. Before Dec 3, the last notification of positive was November 19th…”

Never learned that correlation is not causality.

Gee, did something like a holiday, where people gather together from all over, occur between November 19th and December 3rd?

Gee, were there no kids in school for part of the holiday period?

[….]
Subject: Violation of Mandate

I heard that Springfield Elementary is requiring masks. Bart is not wearing one but Lisa is and is telling al her classmates to obey the mandate. Please help!

D’oh!

[….]
Subject: Ladue school district mask mandates

My 3 year old is still required to wear a mask to school. We are in the ladue school district (St. Louis). So many parents are beyond frustrated with this. —

[….]

How many? Five, ten, one hundred?

[….]
Subject: Concert with masks required for students

Hello,
This is the third email I’ve sent to you today (the last two were forwarded emails from [….] from Waynesville school district. My eldest daughter had a Christmas concert tonight and masks were required to be worn by the students although, the choir teacher(s) did not wear one. After the concert, my daughter was out of breath and her face was bright red. The choir does not normally practice with masks in school so my daughter was completely confused when she was told to wear one for the concert.

I currently have three kiddos in Waynesville schools, 8th, 7th and 5th grade. The two that are in middle school do not say anything about the masks because they fear reprimand. They FEAR standing up for themselves because they don’t want to get into any trouble. Mainly because we have taught them to obey the rules.

I’m going to attempt to attach a video and some photos. Please contact me if they do not go through. The video is just over 5 minutes long and my daughter is the second to the last student to go on stage. There are three photos, two of one teacher with different students and one of the other choir teacher at the piano who is not wearing a mask.

[….]

Recent scientific literature shows that singing and group singing is one of the most efficient means of spreading COVID. Incidently, piano playing isn’t particularly efficient at doing so.

“…The two that are in middle school do not say anything about the masks because they fear reprimand. They FEAR standing up for themselves because they don’t want to get into any trouble…”

It’s so sad when youngsters feel like they can’t put their graduate degrees in epidemiology to practical use.

“…Mainly because we have taught them to obey the rules…”

So, then, no problem?

Subject: Waynesville IV-D district intent to not comply

Good evening,

I am writing to you this evening regarding Waynesville IV-D email of intent saying they will not be complying with your order. I have attached the correspondence from the district that was sent today.

Our problem with the Waynesville district is that it heavily impacted, heavily influenced, and heavily funded by the DoD being the district that supports our youth of Fort Leonard Wood. We can not escape theses tyrannical mandates and rules from the DoD, the poor Fort Leonard Wood leadership, the base, and then FLW leadership pushes these onto our school board/school administrators.

It is the school itself sir laying the rules, not following them themselves, yelling and bullying our children when they don’t have their masks perfectly adhered to their faces ALL day and we have had it. It’s bad enough we have middle school teachers assaulting 7th grade boys and our local prosecutors not taking action, teachers adding in non-approved CRT lessons, bullying our children over masks, poor and inadequate food choices for children even with additional federal funding… we have to deal with CONSTANT quarantine this, mask taht, social distance this, ‘GET AWAY FROM YOUR FRIENDS’ in the hallways that.

I can speak for a large group of parents in the Waynesville school district when I say we have had it and need someone that is not on the ‘good ole boy’ team down here to remind them they are not above the law.

[….]

“…Our problem with the Waynesville district is that it heavily impacted, heavily influenced, and heavily funded by the DoD being the district that supports our youth of Fort Leonard Wood. We can not escape theses tyrannical mandates and rules from the DoD, the poor Fort Leonard Wood leadership, the base, and then FLW leadership pushes these onto our school board/school administrators…”

So much for “support our troops.”

Wow, the Waynseville school district must have quite an advanced academic program if they can offer curriculum from graduate level law schools. Impressive.

“…I can speak for a large group of parents in the Waynesville school district when I say we have had it and need someone that is not on the ‘good ole boy’ team down here to remind them they are not above the law…”

Then why are you writing to Eric Schmitt (r)?

[….]
Subject: Masks

Yes, since the AG seems to feel he is ‘qualified’ to make decisions on medical matters, I have multiple health questions I need answered, after all he seems to think he’s an expert.

1) I have started getting dizzy when I stand up, what should I do to prevent that?

2) I’ve noticed that since my last surgical procedure I have had some lingering pain and I’m unable to identify the source, it radiates from my LLQ, it’s throbbing, somewhat localized, and is concerning but more of a nuisance, what anti-inflammatory is best to reduce the pain?

3) It appears that my HTN is increasing with varying intenisty and frequency. I’ve attempted the usual statice treatments but the seem to be ineffective in the reduction of the diastolic numbers, what suggestions do you have? I’ve made multiple lifestyle changes already, I’ve cut Na, sucrose and fructose, I’m eating a plant based diet, I’ve increased physical activity to 10 min qID 7 days a week, yet it isn’t subsiding.

His expertise is greatly appreciated.
[….]

[….]
Subject: Parkway School District

FYI. Parkway School District is still requiring this ridiculous mandate. Please end this child abuse.
Parkway parent,
[….]

[….]
Subject: NKC schools and Kansas City non compliance

NKC school district is refusing to comply until January 1. They also stated kids will still be required to wear a mask on the bus because of the federal mask mandated. The Mayor Quinton Lucas is also saying we have to listen to/follow him and the council members recommendation on masks. It was recently ruled by a judge that Lucas and the council members violated the law when he tried to take 40 million in police funding and move it to other areas, yet he remains in office. They have also stated that all city employees will be forced to get the vaccine or have to pay for WEEKLY test out of employee’s paycheck. If the unvaccinated employees refuse to comply the will be punished/fired. Please help Kansas City.

Sincerely,
[….]

So, what’s the punishment?

[….]
Subject: Concerned grandparent

Mr. Schmitt,
Are you kidding me? The attorney general asking people to turn in school districts for trying to keep children safe. Just when I think you can’t sink any further you do. Why the war on children? I do not understand. It’s been proven masks work. How many children will get sick and die because of you?

Eric Schmitt (r) [2021 file photo].

Sigh. Just more of the same.

Liberty Public Schools in Liberty, MO is continuing to enforce the mask mandate and quarantining. Email just this week said it was not changing its guidance.

As if the office of Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt (r) doesn’t know? We never get out of junior high school.

[….]
Subject: Rockwood shool district masks

Rockwood still forces all students AND staff to wear masks. I am a staff member and will report every day.

[….]

The DDR Staatssicherheitsdienst would certainly understand how that works.

[….]
Subject: Springfield public school mask mandate

Good Evening.

Three of my children go to Springfield public schools. March of 2021 I ended up quitting my job because my twins were sick with everything but covid all winter. You see, they were pre-mature and have asthma. There is no reasoning with SPS. No exceptions. Now one of the twins is home doing online school until the mask mandate is lifted, along with my younger child. They need school in a building. They want to go see their friends. I want to go back to the office. It really affects their health and breathing to have a mask all day, so I have to stay home. It took me 6 months to find a job I could do from home while they do school work. This has to end. Please, let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do to get this.

[….]

Wow. Just, wow.

[….]
Subject: Idiot

I cannot understand why you want to put my kids at risk by trying to rid necessary and prudent precautions. I have 1 kid in a MO college and 3 in public school… and I am seething that you think of them as collateral for your idiotic political game.

[….]

[….]
Subject: I disagree, Eric

I’m a rural mom of three in Lone Jack and a public school teacher. I applaud districts masking staff and students for their protection. We are still living in a pandemic. Our local & state healthcare systems are worn out. Our teachers and other school staff are worn out as well.

Please find a more educated, helpful battle to pick

[….]

[….]

Hi! I am writing to let you knw that LSR-7 district in Lee’s Summit, Mo is still implementing there ridiculous mask mandates and quarantine protocol. Currently it is only Pre-K and Elementary (which is literally the group who is least effected) but this madness NEEDS to stop! Please don’t stop fighting for our kids and families freedoms! This mother hreatly appreciates it [..]

[….]

One of their most celebrated and accomplished alumni perhaps?

[….]

I am extremely concerned about an organization that continues to promot unreasonable and dangerous behaviors in our state. I would like to report the office of attorney general Eric Schmitt for criminal intent, concealing health information, and encouraging we out our children’s life at risk right as cases are rising again.

And he’s a right wingnut asshole. They probably inadvertantly left that part out.

[….]
Subject: Masks in schools

I support masks in schools as well as vaccination mandates for all school employees.
Sincerely,
Concerned citizen

[….]
Subject: Mandates

We need mandates because some people are too stupid to do the right thing.
[….]

[….]
Subject: Mask mandates

Your political ambition is a greater threat to the school children in Missouri than any mask will ever be. Have you no shame?

[….]

No. This has been another edition of short answers to simple questions.

[….]
Subject: Mandates

I have thought long and hard about safety policies in schools. Bottom line: In-person learning is vastly superior to online school. Masking keeps kids in school. I really don’t understand why you can’t handle that.

[….]

[….]
Subject: Mask mandates!

I favor mask mandates. Shame on you for using government resources for your pet MAGA project.
The thing that makes America truly great is when we observe our civic duty and look out for one another.
Now put on a mask and quit trying to prolong a fucking plague.

Sincerely,
[….]

[….]
Subject: My son [….]

Dear AG Schmitt,

Thank you for being a real life example to my son [….] You see, [….] is reading the George Orwell classic 1984, and he couldn’t believe anyone would call police to tell them their neighbors are committing crimes, but you have provided a real life example of government overreach for my son [….] Please go take a deep breath unmasked in a COVID ward.

Take care,
[….]

[….]
Subject: Masks

Quit being a political asshole. Our kids don’t mind wearing a damn mask. They are just happy to be in school.

[….]

[….]
Subject: Keep the mandates in place

I have three grandkids that can’t be vaccinated yet. The only way to help keep them safe AND in school is to have EVERYONE wear a mask. Missouri’s own study (you know the one Parson didn’t share with the cabinet) says the same thing. Masks reduce the number of cases.

Have to say, I’m pretty proud of myself for writing without including any of the four-letter words that were screaming in me to get out.

Do the right thing. NOT the thing that you think will get you votes.

“…I’m pretty proud of myself for writing without including any of the four-letter words that were screaming in me to get out…”

Others have stepped up to the plate.

[….]
Subject: Mask mandate in school

Good evening. I wanted to email and inform of my son’s school still enforcing the mask mandate in school, after school activities and on bus. This is Lindbergh school district, Dressel Elementary School.

Thank you for fighting for Missourians!! I’m so thankful we have you here in Missouri.
God speed Sir and God Bless America
[….]

“Is there a proper blessing… for the Tsar?”

“A blessing for the Tsar? Of course! May God bless and keep the Tsar… far away from us!”

This is the absolute worst’
[….]

He can’t help himself. It’s in his nature.

[….]
Subject: Voting constituent

I don’t think I’ve seen a politician go to such efforts to not do his current job while trying to get his next job. I sincerely will work more than I have before to ensure that you never hold public office. What a disgrace

You’re a mean one, Mr. Schmitt…

Subject: Masking in school

Hello I would like to report that Pattonville school district in Maryland heights MO is enforcing mask mandates. Thanks for all you do keep up the good work.

Subject: Mask Mandates

Our AG is a moron. We need mask mandates to stop this pandemic. You are endangering children and you should stop.
[….]

[…]

Performance art.

[….]
Subject: Cease and desist!!

How dare you threaten the safety of our children and endanger the ability of our kids to access a public school eduaction? What a ridiculous waste of taxpayer resources. All because you have political ambition. You should really be ashamed of yourself.
[….]

[….]
Subject: Support or schools

I want to express my full support for Rockwood School District who has done everything they can to protect kids over the last 18 months. Please let me know what you have done? I’ll wait.

Sincerely
[….]

It’ll be a long wait.

[….]
Subject: Mask mandates

As a father of 2 young boys in public schools here in Missouri, its hard to understand the logic that clearly goes against reality and all data.
I’ve seen the effects of my children wearing masks for 2 school years now.
Neither of them have brought COVID home from school, not to mention any of the many respiratory virus or flu that are spread every other year that masks are not enforced.
2 full years of research data makes it abundantly clear that masks reduce the spread of this lethal virus.
Your ignorance of facts and reality ensure that you will not receive my families vote in any future election.

Please resign

Thanks.
[….]

[….]
Subject: Mask Mandates are Common Sense

As COVID-19 cases in Missouri soar, schools that mandate masks are looking out for the health of their students, teacher, and communities.

The Governor’s own study showed that mask wearing protected community spread of this horrible disease.

Be a leader and stop spreading lies and anti science rhetoric. Your behavior is embarrassing our state.

[….]

There are 8000 pages in the four files. I haven’t been able to access about half of the pages (in the largest single file). If I make it that far I’ll ask for that portion of the documents in a subsequent RSMo § 610 “Missouri Sunshine Law request.

At this point I’ve gone through about one-eighth of the total 8000 pages. What I haven’t posted is a considerable amount of monkeywrenching spam subscriptions and other emails reporting schools or school districts with multiple pages of “evidence” in the form of documents and school or school district web sites.

Think about that for just a second. A significant number of our neighbors have been eagerly submitting their “research” and “evidence” to an agent of the state with the explicit purpose of punishing their local schools, teachers, and school administrators.

They have a long plan. It is to undermine public confidence and support for public schools. Once that public supprot is gone public school resources will be divided up and tossed to private for-profit entities. If you’ve been reading these emails you’ll note that even parochial schools aren’t safe. This was best illustrated in a comment in an email [not published here] complaining about masking in parochial school and blaming a “liberal priest.”

Another thing that comes across in some of the narratives supplied by the anti-mask, anti-scince crowd is the professionalism and patience of teachers and school administrators as they deal with self-centered fools. It’s also painful. School adminstrators and teachers have enough on their plates these days without having extremist assholes sending in their children to provoke confrontations. Yes, even children of kindergarten age. What kind of parent even contemplates doing this?

Yet, here we are.

I’m sending a visual of what a rag looks like after cleaning 17 rooms. Parents need to see what kids are touching on a daily basis. Which is then tranferred to the mask that many are forced to wear during school hours.

Sigh. Again, Dunning-Kruger.

Uh, transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is significantly mitigated by community masking. Vaccines, too.

The same rag for seventeen rooms?

Do each of the kids wipe their masked faces on every surface in seventeen rooms? Seems like it could be a school discipline problem.

Subject: Mandates

Hi there,

Mask mandates and quarantines are best practices save lives. Perhaps your time would be better spent encouraging vaccination and continued vaccinations to end this pandemic sooner.

You’d think.

Subject: Rolla Middle School

My daughter 4th grade student at Rolla Middle school was put on quarantine on Monday, December 6th. Today, Thursday December 9th I called the school to ask if my daughter can come back since the Attorney Geberal released that schools can no longer enforce wearing masks or quarantine to which they stated ‘we are not cahnging our covid protocols at this time your child is to still quarantine’. I’m pretty confused with this conversation and I’m not sure where to go from here. My child has learning disabilities and this is our second quarantine this year. This has been the least productive as she has been in tears multiple times each day and cannot maintain focus. This has been so frustrating and I am severly concerned for my daughters education.

My daughter was exposed by a student in her class. We have monitored sysmptoms. We will test if necessary.

Thanks
[….]

No confusion. Missouri Revised Statutes:

RSMo § 167.191. Children with contagious diseases not to attend school — penalty. — It is unlawful for any child to attend any of the public schools of this state while afflicted with any contagious or infectious disease, or while liable to transmit such disease after having been exposed to it. For the purpose of determining the diseased condition, or the liability of transmitting the disease, the teacher or board of directors may require any child to be examined by a physician, and exclude the child from school so long as there is any liability of such disease being transmitted by the pupil. If the parent or guardian refuses to have an examination made by a physician at the request of the teacher or board of directors, the teacher or board of directors may exclude the child from school. Any parent or guardian who persists in sending a child to school, after having been examined as provided by this section, and found to be afflicted with any contagious or infectious disease, or liable to transmit the disease, or refuses to have the child examined as herein provided, is guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine of not less than five nor more than one hundred dollars.

Subject: Fox C6 School District

Fox c6 school district has been violating the new restrictions. They are still enforcing masks for some of their schools. They are still doing modified quarantine and forcing those exposed students to sit alone at lunch and away from others during class time, as well as wearing a mask while playing outside.
I’m a teacher and parent at Fox school district and I’ve seen these rules get in the way of teaching and learning.
I’ve seen school nurses and staff create quarantines based on assumptions and not facts of an actual positive case.
Thank you,
[….]

Interestingly this ‘teacher’ believes their expertise in medicine supercedes that of nurses. Dunning-Kruger writ large.

“…I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time… like tears in rain…”

Subject: Mask mandates

I live in St, Joseph, Mo, my grankids go to Gene Field Elementary School, they are required kids to wear masks at this time. Is this not against what you just fought against? My granddaughter can not breathe in those things and cries when she has to go to school and wear them, she is in first grade. A applaud what you are doing. I’m hoping you can help. Thank you.

Well, that certainly settles everything.

Subject: Fw: Updated COVID-19 Communication – A Message From: [….]

To whom it may concern:

Below is the latest email that I have received from my child’s school. When he returned in August he was required to wear a mask. November 10th we received an email advising that masks are no longer required. No we are told that the children have to wear a mask again to attend school. Theis needs to be stopped so children can attend school and learn the way they are supposed to. I am all for if they would like to wear a mask on there on free will that is their option but stop forcing it on these children.

If you need the other emails forwarded please let me know.

Thank you for all your help for these children!
[….]

By all means, forward everything you’ve got to Eric Schmitt’s (r) office. In triplicate, just to make certain he receives it.

Subject: AG Schmitt/This is horrible

AG Schmitt,

I’m a Missouri taxpayer and parent of 2 kids. I’m stunned by your craven use of public funds and attention to advance yourself politically. You are endangering kids and other populations 1) by undermining public health measures 2) using divisive language to further codify disagreements and distrust between different parts of the community.

This is disgusting.

[….]
Subject: Illegal mandates in St. Charles county too

Hello,
I am a parent and kindergarten teacher in the Francis Howell School District. Our district said that we are still required to wear face masks even though our AG said that it was unlawful. I would like to say that I am completely against forcing people to wear a mask, especially if they are fully vaccinated. It completely goes against getting the vaccine and makes people not want to get it if they are forced to wear a mask. I would like people to try and wear a mask for 7 straight hours while trying to teach a room full of 22 five and six year old. It’s impossible!
We were emailed the following statement from our superintendent saying that they can still force us to wear a mask PLEASE HELP US!
[….]

Apparently there’s also a Dunning-Kruger epidemic in Missouri.

If you give a fish a bicycle it’ll snow in July.

Subject: COVID

Every elected official in this state should be working hard to stem this pandemic. Wear a mask, keep your distance, get vaccinated. That should be your only message. Even the dimmest bulb can understand it. Drop the pretend freedom argument that the anti-science conspiracy teories, and help us stop the virus from spreading.

Embarrassed to be a Missourian.

“…Even the dimmest bulb can understand it…” Assumes facts not in evidence.

Subject: School mask policies

Dear Attorney General Schmitt:

You are one of the most dangerous people in the State of Missouri. You are endangering children in the worst way by trying to get rid of mask mandates.

These mandates have been proven scientifically to reduce the risk of infection of Covid and other aitborne disease such as colds and flu. However, you obviosly aren’t interested in real science. You are more interested in political idiocy and grandstanding that you are in protecting Missourians.

I am 100% against your asinine plans to force school systems, such as Springfield to remove their mandates. In fact, Springfield should continue their mandate beyond their planned stoppage in January.

Sincerely,
[….]

“…In fact, Springfield should continue their mandate beyond their planned stoppage in January…” At this point you can probably bet the rent that they will.

Subject: Mask mandate Pattonville school district

To whom it may concern, I’m writing this to report my child’s school district, Pattonville district, is still continuing with the mask requirement for student. I spoke with the schools superintendent on 12-8-21 at approximately 3:12. He said the district doesn’t intend on changing anything at this time and is waiting to see an appeal and next semester may consider a mask optional policy pending the schools board. I’m respectfully requesting a cease and desist letter be sent to the district immediately as they are in violation of state law.

Sincerely,
[….]

“…at approximately 3:12…” Are you certain?

Subject: Hi Attorney General Schmitt,

My son who is in the Rockwood School District and attends LaSalle Springs Middle school is being put in a seperate conference room with other students who refused to put a mask on today. They will not allow them into class unless they put a mask on. Their options were to put on a mask, be segregated from their classmates, or for me to pick them up.

Please see email below from the assistant principal who said per Rockwood’s current mitigation strategies would not allow him into class. I have also attached a video of the assistant principal stating that he would not be allowed in the class without a mask.

My daughter who is a kindergartner at Eureka Elementary school in the Rockwood school district was not allowed to go into her classroom without a mask today. Her options were to put on a mask and go back to class, I could pick her up, or she could go into the library and learn on her own for the day.

[….] Is not following the cease and desist letter and all of the administrators state that their mitigation strategies are still in place and nothing has changed. I beleve whatever next steps are needed to take action on this needs to come from your office at this time.

Thank you so much,
[….]

Shorter version: Rules don’t apply to me.

For God’s sake, the kid is in kindergarten. What kind of parent uses their child like this?

Subject: Libert High School

My son, [….] is a sophomore at Liberty High School. This morning he went to school unmasked, and armed with a copy of the AG’s letter to [….] instructing him to cease and desist. Prior to his second class of the day, he was confronted by a teacher [….] Although my son is not in his class, he has had several run-ins with him previously regarding masks. This morning [….] entered the classroom and sat down. [….] asked if he had a mask. [….] responded that he did not have a mask, but he did have a statement from the Attorney General that said he he did not have to wear one. [….] the commented, ‘Wow, he’s got a little letter from the Attorney General, isn’t that cute’. He said that while laughing. At that point, […] advised that it was unconstitutional to wear a mask. [….] became upset and told [….] to go to the office. [….] did as instructed and had to wait for the principal to become available to talk with him. When she called him into the office she said, ‘So, you don’t want to wear a mask?’ [….]responded, ‘No mam’. She then said ‘alright then’ and advised him he could no longer go to school. She called me to pick him up. When I asked herto justify denying the AG’s order, she advised she had to ebforce the policies of the school district. I emailed both [….] and [….] after taking my son home asking for clarification regarding the defiance of the AG’s order. I also inquired about the effect this would have on [….] academics. I was told to refer to the Superintendent’s previous email about not complying with the AG and the Court’s decision regarding masking. Additionally, I was advised I would have to call daily to excuse [….] absences and that all his schoolwork will need to be done at home. He will have to make special arrangements to take his finals, in the office by himself. Please let me know if you need any additional information or have any recommendations for how to resolve this issue and get my son back to school.

Thank you,
[….]

Assign a forty page research paper. Primary sources – monographs, periodicals, court precedents, statutory references. No websites, no Google, no Wikipedia. End notes. And the kid can do a twenty-five page paper.

It appears that the school was accommodating when it came to the kid’s academic work.

Parents, don’t raise your kids to be entitled assholes. One generation is enough.

Subject: Illegal mandates

How are you? Hope all is well and you haven’t been adversely affected by the global pandemic. My family and I have managed to avoid infection of the novel Corona virus by following the eveloping scientific research of health experts of infectious diseases.

Two of my children until recently were too young to receive a vaccine and are still not fully protected by it. Thank goodness their school chooses to enforce a masking policy to keep them and their classmates, teachers, bus drivers, other staff members and all of their families that much safer. By looking out for the other people in our community and their welfare and health we can help promote the success of our community. Now is not the time for self-serving politicians to try and divide our communities so you can further your own personal agenda. You are putting our children, our families, our communities, and our state at risk. Why don’t you follow the scientific evidence and help save lives instead? The children have no problems wearing a mask to school, it is the selfish adults who can not handle it. Why don’t we just worry about surviving this global crisis without more needless casulaties instead of trying to get a senate seat?

Subject: Mask Mandates

Mr. Schmitt,

I am opposed to your plan to punish schoold districts who plan to keep their mask mandates. Many schools and communities have found that mask mandates have been an effective way to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus, as shown by scientific and community studeies.
It is disheartening to see politicians use this pandemic for political purposes, as shown by your and others’ ploitical aspirations. Unfortunately Missourians and other states are at the mercy of politicians in this pandemic. If your purposes were for the people of Missouri, you would not be punishing children, families and educational professionals for your political gain.
Your response would be appreciated.

Subject: “Illegal mandates” hotline report

The activity this AG office has engaged in – is disgusting.

Turning citizens against each other intentionally, shameful.

Mis-representing the status of law in Missouri is a complete failure of the AG office.

Your office is helping a virus – during a global pandemic.

A simple policy tp prevent spread of virus is not “tyranny”.

I’d like to report the AG has abandoned reason, and has inserted his unfettered opinion in place of actual policy.

Thank you.

Subject: Mask Mandates

My Son is a 36 year old young man that teaches at a MO HS and I couldn’t be more relieved that he has a common sense, science based administration and school board that knows masks AND vaccination is theproper, intelligent appraoch to health for ALL humans. It’s also a fact that a study performed for our state concluded that masking helps detr and individual’s risk and transfer to others, so why are youperpetuating this dangerous view Sir? Please stop politicizing this simple and completely safe practice. I worked as a union laborer for 40 years and not only had to wear N95 masks for up to 16 hours a day, but even had to qualify to wear a respirator while working in infectious disease environments, and alive because of it. I fully support vaccinating and mask use when in large events in closed quarters. I WILL do everything I can to thwart those that lie about masking superiority to fend of this insidious virusthat you seen hell bent on allowing to maim and kill. To date I’ve lost 27 family/friends and those friends children. My wife works for a large hospital system and dealing with viewpoints such as yours is pushing her to the brink. Our economy and health system CAN NOT survive another shut down. Again Sir,

Subject: Webster Groves School District

Dear Mr. Attorney General,

I am informing you that my school district, Webster Groves, just as of tonight 12/9/21 had their board meeting. [….] Superintendent, has stated that they are keeping mask mandate and quarantining of children.

Please know the other concern that came to light is testing children in school. I do not consent of any one testing my children.

At what point do these people get held accountable? At what point do parents have a say about medical restrictions put over our kids mouth and nose?

Please help.
[….]

At this point you get held accountable – Missouri Revised Statutes:

RSMo § 167.191. Children with contagious diseases not to attend school — penalty. — It is unlawful for any child to attend any of the public schools of this state while afflicted with any contagious or infectious disease, or while liable to transmit such disease after having been exposed to it. Subject: Archdiocese of St. Louis

Hello,

I am asking and wanting a response on if this mandate applies to Archdiocese schools in St. Louis. My school, St. Joseph-Josephville in Wentzville MO is stating per the Archdiocese this ruling does not impact private schools only public locations and school districts. I am questioning the truth to this staement as they enforced a new mask mandate yesterday saying they are within their rights to do it as a leader of a private school. Please clarify how something can be ‘illegal’ for some schools and not ‘others’. All of their letters related to Covid policy says they meet and have consulted with the St. Charles County Health Department in their decision. Again, my understanding is the county health does not have this authority to advise and tell them what to do either. A prompt response would be greatly appreciated as my child is currently not attending school until more clarity is provided on this issue.
[….]

Sigh. Dunning-Kruger.

“…Please clarify how something can be ‘illegal’ for some schools and not ‘others’…” There’s an old PUBLIC television children’s show that has some sort of song about this.

The St. Charles County Health Department (note the location, in St. Charles County) has the expertise to advise and recommend.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for Eric Schmitt (r) to take on the Archdiocese of St. Louis in court.

[….]
Subject: Mask Mandates

It is with deep disappointment that I write this email to Attorney General Schmitt. Wearing a mask is such a simple thing that we do to protect those around us. For him to forbid school districts to use common sense measures to stop the spread of COVID is bad science and bad policy.

Equally distatseful is his use of the public to “rat out” those educators who have worked so hard to keep students and staff safe and productive.

As a fellow Catholic, I thought that Attorney General Schmitt considered himself a “right to life” person. His actions show otherwise.

Subject: Bernard middle school Mehlville school district

Hi! I am a concerned mother and I first want to say thank you for standing up for all of us. I greatly appreciate it. Not only does our school inforce the mask mandate , our kids have not had lockers in 2 years. My daughter is in 8th grade I can’t even carry her book bag into the house because it hurts my back. She refuses to wear a coat because anything she brings to school she has to carry with her to each class. It is horrible. Gym clothes, lunch, coats, books , laptop, etc. If you can only help us in anyway to get our kids the respect they deserve by giving them their lockers back we would greatly appreciate it. I addressed this in the bet of the year and basically I was told that if I don’t like the rules I can home school my child, my heart hurts for these kids. Thank you, and please keep up the good work, we will continue to support you.
[….]

Lockers? Seriously?

But you are demonstrating to your child that you believe rules are for other people.

Subject: Masking

I had to pull my 17 year old and 11 year old out of Eureka High School and Rockwood Valley Middle School because I am on [….] infusion to treat my Rheumatoid Arthritis. As their mother, I could die if I contact Covid. Do you think my children could live with the fact that they brought Covid into our household and it killed their mother? If my children suffer mentally and physically because of your actions, this is on you. There is no place in heaven for a man like you.
[….]

It appears that Eric Schmitt (r) is not particularly concerned about this.

[….]
Subject: School District Illegal Quarantine Mandate

Good evening,

My daughter’s district, and the one which I teach, still quarantine perfectly healthy students (those with exposure and no symptoms) and send them home for a mandated 8 days minimum. To came back, students and staff must test negative on days 5-8.

Mandates are illegal, and an invasion of my personal choice and freedoms. This district is Grain Valley R-V and I wish to add it to your list of districts not following the court order. Thank you for your patriotic support.

I would ask to remain anonymous,

Thank you
[….]

Sigh. Dunning-Kruger.

“…To came back, students and staff must test negative on days 5-8…” Well, that’s certainly more accurate than trying to read roadkill entrails.

Subject: stay in your lane

How dare you?

We want to hear from public HEALTH officials on actual EVIDENCE Based recommendations. Not your posturing and power grab to show how many more people can be killed or injured from COVID. Why don’t you refer to that study on if masks work or not and actually pay attention to what the data says on how to keep children healthy instead of listening to the louder complainers. Why don’t you compile the level of education and in what field people that are pro-mask compared to antimask??

Why is it so unreasonable to protect children? I understand not wanting them to be in a mask forever but at least yet the youngest kids get vaccinated! You are putting the youngest kids at risk by pulling these mandates before they have a chance to protect themselves.

There have been over 2 million cases of COVID in 5-11 year olds with that number disproportionally rising. >8300 hospitalizations in the US in ages 5-11 and 1/3 of them required ICU care. What do you say to those parents? Please do what you can to prevent any more children from being hospitalized unneccesarily and continue masking until the vaccine is available for everyone.

Facts matter. Expertise matters.

Subject: Pattonville School District

Dera AG Schmitt,
I am writing to you on behalf of a teacher at Drummond Elementary in the Pattonville School District in north St Louis County who says masks are still being strictly enforced. She is ready for her students to take of their masks (plus herself!), so that she can see their faces and begin the journey of getting back to a normal classroom. She cares so much about them! I am writing for her, so she can protect her job.

Thank you for all that you are doing to save the children of Missouri!!

Grateful,
[….]

That’s a lot to unpack. Doublespeak obviously requires two exclamation marks.

Asking for a friend? And, finally, someone who appears to understand that a public record is public.

Subject: Unconstitutional masking

Good morning – We have children that attend Springfield Public Schools. This morning we witnessed teachers mandating masks as children enetered each of the three schools they attend. Eugene Field Elementary School, Pershing Middle School, and Pipkin Middle School. As students attempted to enter the school without masks, teachers blocked access and handed out masks to those students. Thank you for your diligent efforts to help parents retake control of their children’s health. safety, and education. [….]

Helen Gahagan Douglas was found to have voted with Vito Marcantonio. So, there’s that.

[….]
Subject: Mask mandates

Please stop threatening school districts with a case that doesn’t even support what you claim it supports.

The case referenced does not support your claim that school districts/officials cannot enforce mask mandates or quarantines.

In fact, school boards are elected and thus can do what is, in their opinion, the right thing for our kids, whether or not you agress.

Please keep your political grandstanding for the sake of your Senate campaign out of the discussion whenscience backs up the facts that masks help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Sincerely,
[….]

Subject: Masks in schools

Please tell all the private schools to let our children unmask too!!! These schools are scared that they will get in trouble if they let our children go unmasked!
Thanks.
[….]

Private schools are not immune (pun intended). Yes, they are scared – of the catastrophic results.

Subject: Parkway

Dear MO State Leaders:

I want to report that my school district, Parkway, is amazing. The kids continue to wear masks to protect themselves AND their classmates. They are acting more mature and more thoughtful than the ‘leaders’ of Missouri in protecting their classmates with weakened immune systems.

Are you honestly so bored, so actual out of problems in this state taht you are resorting to policing children’s choice of clothing? Good grief. Stop throwing a temper tantrum and use your time, and our tax dollars, for something that actually matters. If you nedd ideas I might suggest:

decriminalizing marijuana use, and getting low level offenders out of jail

keeping women’s healthcare legal and safe in this state.

ending gerrymandering in this state so everyone has a voice

I’m sure I can come up with more with a little more time. Stop wsting my tax money on petty things. Do your job and lead toward a just state. Stop trying to drag us back to the ‘good old days’ where white men were all that mattered.
Sincerely,
[….]

Subject: Mandates on masks

You want tips on schools mandating masks? Here’s one for you:
Masks will not only cut down on spreading COVID, it will cur down spreading colds, the flue, and pneumonia, all of which take lives. And all of which is proven. Have you no concern for the health and well-being of children, Eric Schmitt? You are are a heartless politician with a dark soul. You only care about your own personal political gains. I am embarrassed and sickened you, Hawley, Wagner, Blunt and Parson are part of Missouri government. Absolutely disgusting.

Proud not to be a Trump loving human being.

Subject: Visitation Academy Masks

Hello,

I would like to bring it to your attention that Visitation Academy is illegally forcing their students to wear masks. This is being lead by [….] (Head of School). Furthermore, [….] is encouraging teachers to hand out punishments when masks fall below their nose, such as demerits and docking points in class. We would appreciate a letter or call to [….] notifying him of his illegal practice.

Thank you.
Concerned Visitation Parent.
[….]

Oh, the humanity!

Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Parochial schools aren’t immune from this madness. Do you think these schools want Eric Schmitt (r) to interfere in their operations? Just asking.

And finally, go ahead, keep waving a red cape in front of the Head of School.

Subject: Masks

Are people so uneducated that they are ignoring public health and scientific data. What constitutional right is violated if people are mandated to wear a mask. I do not understand this. The government mandates a lot of things – taxes, seatbelts, helmets, school vaccines for many diseases, etc. we have a pandemic that is killing too many people every day and masks have been shown to decrease the spread of this virus. Government needs to get out of making critical health decisions. That should be left to those with scientific and medical expertise. Go into a hospital and look at what medical staff are dealing with everyday! Too much senseless suffering that can be easily controlled with masks and vaccines. A mask does not prevent me from doing anything. Masks do not affect breathing. If you think masks are not necessary, then when you have a medical procedure or surgery be sure to tell your physician he/she does not need to gown or mask up. Take your chances on getting a life threatening infection. I tend to lean toward voting Republican policy but people like Eric Schmidt would never get my vote. Does he not believe in protecting his family? He should but obviously does not.
And now we are going to asking people to ‘tattle’ on each other.
How can government dictate rules at schools and business. You do not make other conduct rules for them. Let the science experts do their job so we can curtail this pandemic. Go back and do whatever it is you are supposed to do!

“…Are people so uneducated that they are ignoring public health and scientific data…” Yes. This has been another edition of short answers to simple questions.

Subject: Raytown c2

Hello again my name is [….]
I contacted you yesterday about Raytown C2 school district and their choice to not obey the judges orders. I mentioned my son’s wrestling coach calling and saying that he was around somebody that popped positive. Well I got a call today from one of the activities coordinators that tried to tell me my son is to quarantine which is absolutely not going to happen. My son’s education and his extracurricular activities are far more important than someone else’s flu or their fear.
My son is healthy, our family already had this and we have natural immunity.
This will affect my son’s wrestling career as well because he’s got upcoming meets that are now insinuationg he must miss because somebody else’s irresponsible parent sent them to school sick. Do not think it’s fair that the children that are healthy have to miss out.
I am not sure what i’m supposed to do other than tell him not to leave school and I’m not sure what will happen at this point.
I’m begging you to send the cease-and-desist letter to Raytowm’s superintendent who thinks that the judges order was up for perception.
Thank you for your time again.

Subject: Mask mandate

I’m still disapointed to see that people have taken such an issue with the most basic form of protection from covid. I guess people enjoy being in a prolonged pandemic, where friend and loved ones are still getting sick and dying. But sure, something something something my rights something something freedom.

I get that this email probably won’t be taken seriously, but any time that was wasted in reading this was worth it.

Subject: Mask mandates

Dear MO State Leaders:

I just wanted to let you know that my schoold district is sane, calm and peaceful. The kids wear masks to protect theselves and others, and no one throws a todler tantrum or whines like a baby. They are adulting better than many of our elected officials, and I’m proud of them! Because of the mask mandate, I’m able to send my son to school and not worry about him, and there have been minimal outbreaks of COVID in the district, unlike in non mask wearing schools. I am so grateful that my school is keeping my son safe, so that he might hopefully live to vote against you won day.

Please do something useful with your elected office, such as overturning wrongful convictions, releasing people from prison who are there on petty drug charges, or actually doing ANYTHING to help make Missouri a better place!

What a motivation [….]! Thanks for asking for comments.

Subject: Mask Mandates for Schools

Hello, could you please let me know if this applies to Saint Charles County Catholic Schools also? Thank you.

[….]
Subject: Stop the political theater

The majority of parents disagree with you. I am one of them. It is appalling that you are directing adults to take pictures of other peoples children and send them to you.Regardless if there is a mask mandate, my three vaccinated children will be wearing masks at school because we care about other human beings, unlike you. There are many children in our district who are immune compromised. Just because you’ve decided to play to this ridiculous anti-scince anti-caring about others campaign, does not mean the majority of Missourians agree with you.

Good luck scraping the bottom of the barrel. I wish you would put all this time, energy and money into things that would actually help our school districts, like not being 49th in education funding.

Have the day you deserve!
[….]

“…like not being 49th in education funding…” They consider that a feature, not a bug.

Subject: Mask Mandate at Visitation Academy

I am writing this email to inform the state of Missouri that my daughter’s school Visitation Academy located at 3020 N Ballas Rd. St. Louis MO 6313 [….] continue to require their students to wear masks their entire school day. They also enforce ‘proper mask wearing’ with demerits. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you
[….]

Holy cow, people are really upset about those demerits.

[….]
Subject: Masks work

I am shocked that this is what you are using out tax dollars to do. Keeping our children safe is the most important responsibility you hold, it is dispicable that you are using the health of our children for your political gains. Masks work, please go use your time more judiciously in actually bettering our lives.

Subject: Question regarding quarantine rules

My children attend the fort zumwalt school district and they are still requiring the daily check before school that includes every symptom like runny nose, cough, etc. If they have any of those symptoms we’re not supposed to send them to school. Is that practice included in the ‘quarantine’ that is supposed to be rescinded? My daughter has mised 4 days of school now because she does have a cough. No fever, and she feels fine otherwise and would prefer to go back. Please advise.

Thank you,

This is why we can’t have nice things. Monty Python’s Black Knight “…’tis but a scratch…” comes to mind.

Subject: Truman State University

Mr Schmitt and Team,

I have not been able to find a sure answer about whether state funded universities are included in what you and your team are doing, but we have had a mask mandate since the beginning of Fall 2020, and it will not be re-evaluated until Jan 28. It has been re-evaluated twice this year. Briefly it was lifted in late June and early July, but it was immediately reinstated upon the students return to campus. In my opinion they have no intention of removing it, but are grandstanding to show that they are considering it. We have only 10 students in isolation currently, and that does not even positive for covid, and have had a total of 590 students in isolation in isolation since July 2020. For a school with nearly 4500 undergarduate students, these numbers by no means mean a mask date should be in effect. Our administration has been very strict on this order, including forcing myself and other football players to wear a mask while working out in our weight room. I look forward to hearing whether the Cole County decision nullifies their order.

Thank you and keep up the great work,
[….]

Subject: Hazelwood and Ferguson Florrisant are breaking the law

Hello,

Thank you! Thank you for addressing this and having courage to represent our constitution.

I am a speech teacher working in Hazelwood school District. They are quarantining, masking, and have plastic dividers all over the desks and tables.

As far as teacher go- they told us we all have to be vaccinated or get tested every week starting this week-or we cannot step on the premises next week.

I worked in Ferguson Florrisant for 10 years prior. Last week they told the teachers that everyone has to be tested weekly vaxed or not. This week they said no one had to be tested until after break.

They (Ferg Flor) out out a robo call last night in RESPONSE TO YOUR LETTER TO THEM/PUBLIC that regardless of your letter they are pushing forward with all mitigation’s.

I have not heard anything I’m Hazelwood yet-but a handful of us are not testing or getting the shot. I am in search of a lawyer that understands what’s happening in case we should need one.

Thank you,
[….]

Josh Hawley (r) claims to be a constitutional scholar. He can probably be found in Virginia.

[….]
Subject: violation

BEFORE OUR CHILDREN CAN EVEN GET THEIR SECOND SHOT, I am so angry our AG is bullying CPS,demanding they drop the common sense, science-based mask mandate. He’s putting my child, my family and my community at an uneccesary, politically motivated risk. Lives are at stake. Isn’t he supposed to be ‘pro-life?’

I would be slightly less incensed if he would back off until after the Christmas break, when my child will be fully vaccinated. This is going to cost lives and lost school days.
[….]

Still, wear a mask. Protect others.

[….]
Subject: As a Physician and Parent I SUUPORT Mask Mandates

Attorney General Schmitt,
I’m writing in SUPPORT of Mask Mandates to keep our children safe as a private citizen, parent, and physician. The data are clear. Masks are effective in reducing risk of contracting COVID-19. The harms are minimal and there are no credible data showing widespread harm from wearing masks. There is harm from children staying home and quarantining, which can be prevented by mitigating disease spread, though masks.
Personal liberties do not and should not come at the expense of others’ safety. Refusing to wear a mask and spreading a contagious disease to others puts others at risk and is inconsistent with the values of this state and country. Although the risk for children of death is low, the risk of death remains. How many children is it acceptable to lose for this personal liberty? Further, children are at risk for debilitating symptoms of long covid, now well characterized. Sir, there are mountains and there are molehills. When choosing a hill to die on, best to make sure you’ve chosen a mountain and not a molehill. Wearing a mask is a molehill.
I understand that you are running for higher office and hoping to appeal to a base that rejects high quality scientific evidence, however, consider the consequences of your actions in the long term. How many people are you willing to sacrifice for the power that comes with higher office? It seems there are no bounds. I’ve seen this disease with my own eyes, during several turns of working on COVID wards. I am mentally and physically exhausted by the pandemic, as much as anyone is. But until you’ve looked into the eyes of someone who is needlessly suffering and struggling for air, then I’m not sure you have any right to tell others they’re allow to put people at risk.

Sincerely,

[….]

[….]
Subject: Violation

I would like to report multiple violations:

Eric Schmitt is in violation of multiple mandates:
– the mandate to not lie to the public (Robinson vs. MO DHSS does not invalidate mask mandates in schools, only that DHSS cannot close close schools based on opinion of an unelected official)
– the mandate to not intimidate scchools into believing these falsities
– the mandate to not prioritize his political campaign over his actual job
– the mandate to protect our children, teachers, and others working in schools
– the mandate to be a decent human being

Sincerely,
A Missouri Parent

Subject: Illegal Mask mandate enforcement

Please notify The Daniel Academy 301 W 106th Street KCMO 64114 that they’re mandate is illegal

Thank you. I volunteer there every week and am forced to wear a mask along with the students.

The horror! Do you think they’re aware of your concern?

It’s funny how the universe has a tendency to balance everything out.

[….]
Subject: Leave the mask mandate in place

I am in favor of the mask mandate in St. Louis Public Schools. Science and basic, common sense tells us that masks help to prevent the spead.

Stop bullying the school disticts and let them make decisions based on facts rather than your right wing conspiracy bullshit.

Thank you,
[….]

[….]
Subject: Snitch

As a teacher and a parent in St. Louis County I am refusing to be a pawn in your future political aspirations. Your posturing as the big man in charge does nothing to benefit our children, teachers or school administrators. During this unprecedented time your attempt at leadership is disgusting! Our children and school staff are doing their best to show up….show up! They are bravely powering through adversity to get an education. Shame on you for belittling those who are committed to providing this education and giving ALL children a chance to be in school. I want to know your plan for filling the vacancies of teachers, administrators, and school board volunteers when they get tired of this and leave the profession? Schools benefit from community from community support…. your efforts are breaking that down.
Shame. On. You.

[….]

“…I want to know your plan for filling the vacancies of teachers, administrators, and school board volunteers when they get tired of this and leave the profession?…” There is no plan. Eric Schmitt (r) considers this a feature, not a bug.

Subject: Just stop

Another wasted effort to try and appease crazy parents. kiids re fine. My kids (4 and 2) have been wearing masks and have ZERO complaints. Most kids do not care about wearing masks. The PARENTS are the ones making this so difficult and making it an issue. Please stop wasting the states money! Focus on true needs of this state and leave the schools alone!
[….]

There are over 8000 pages. This disheartening display of arrogance, self righteousness, willful ignorance, stupidity, entitlement, narcissism, insanity, and sarcasm is breathtaking in its volume.

Private and parochial schools have not been spared from the wrath of the anti-mask, anti-science crowd.

The anti-science, anti-mask, anti-vaccine, anti-quarantine crowd is not so much defying public authority, though they do so with experts, school administrators, and elected school boards, but they are deferring to, writing polite supplications and inquiries to their perception of a centralized authority (albeit one who arguably oversteps that authority). Again, here lies danger.

Anyone who has attended a local elected school board meeting or an elected county health board during this pandemic when mitigation is a discussion item will note the jarring contrast. The local elected authorities are treated differently. There are numerous examples of this, far too many.

Yet here, and in two previous posts, we witness the anti-science, anti-mask, anti-vaccine, anti-quarantine crowd’s defference to some unnamed bureaucrat receiving their snitch emails via the portal established by Eric Schmitt (r). However, the range in the tone, from polite to scolding to contemptuous to defiant, in the emails from those opposed to the actions or Eric Schmitt (r) is a significant contrast.

In the defiant American tradition of monkeywrenching the pompous, there are a number of emails submitted to the Attorney General’s snitch site, not reproduced here, which can only be described as directed spam.

All day I hear teachers/staff demanding these children pull their masks up. As soon as they’re done eating, no talking to friends, and pull your mask up. It’s borderline mail for these sweet children. Kids are scared, other kids are telling on others, as if the mask less are harmful. Please help us! I keep telling my children to pull their masks down, to stand up for their freedom and their rights. They’re healthy children. Please please help.

Below is an email from [….] our superintendent. I cried when I read it, I’m just so frustrated.

That is just sad.

Hi!! Looking for some transparency in the mask mandate….since my children are at a private school, do they not have to comply with the “no” or “illegal” mask mandates? I attached the recent letter that addresses the decision last week.

Subject: Mask Requirements Remaining on School Buses

Greetings,

I am a school bus driver for the North Kansas City School District #74. I’m glad to hear that, in only a day’s time, our superintendent repealed his insistence on masks in school buildings in response to the Cole County Court decision.
They have not changed their mind about the buses and are continuing to insist masks be worn only there. It is my understanding that school buses fall under the federal mandate of public transportation. Convenient. They claim to be helpless to change the policies on buses. However, when it is also convenient, they insist the school bus is an extension of the classroom. I see this as the least logical combination of rules, to roam maskless and free for eight hours in the halls then slap a mask on for a 10-20 minute bus ride. Also, the buses are only as public as the school buildings. State laws (RSMo 569.115, below) actually limit buses to exclusively students and school staff. Is there any grounds to apply the recent ruling on a school bus? I am hardly qualified to say yes, so help and clarification would be appreciated.

Thank you,
[….]

That’s literally throwing the bus under the bus. Convenient.

Subject: Kearney School District

I know that you have received numerous complaints about Kearney School District defying your order.

We are aware that Liberty has received your second letter, have you sent it to Kearney and North Kansas City?

Students started not wearing their masks after your first letter and Kearney school employees have threatened to disqualify them from playing sports, have issued in school suspension and threats of out of school.

Kearney will food parents’ emails with reports of rising COVID and even close schools to pit the maskers/vaxxers against those with commonsense.

Thank you for fighting for us!

Subject: Columbia Public Schools still violating the recent Cole County Circuit Court , my grandson’s story. (video links)
[….]

My 16 year old grandson contacted me from school at 13:20 on December 7th with an ‘urgent’ need. He was being removed from his welding class at Columbia’s Hickman High because he refused to wear a paper mask with sparks flyinh in the room from welding and grinders used on metal. My grandson says thewelding class instructor has not made students wear a mask in this environment. However, after the class started on Dec. 7th [….] walked into the classroom and upon seeing ‘all’ students without a mask demanded masks be worn. My grandson refused to put a mask on due to paper masks not being safe. After some discussion he was offered a ‘fire resistant’ mask but he refused as it was too small (he is over 6 feet tall and around 200 lbs.) Besides not being required by the instructor to wear a face mask in class this season, my grandson also reported on Dec. 7th there were a total of 5 students present in the class but only 3 fire resistant masks were available. It is evident wearing a fire resistant face mask has not been expected nor available for all students. After first resisting to put on a face mask, the other 4 students finally complied (I guess one wore a paper mask in a room with sparks) but refusing to comply, my grandson was removed and made to sit in an office for the remainder of the class.

Last week my grandson, having heard about the judges ruling in the Robinson vs MO DHSS case, personally asked [….] how it impacted the schools mask mandate. [….] told my grandson that the school board had received an email from their ‘lawyer’ explaining that the Robinson vs DHSS did not affect their policy of masks being required at school. [….] actually read the email to my grandson.

Finding it egregious that a Columbia Public Schools leader should flaunt the law in the face of a high school and continue, under the mask mandate, to deprive my grandson from taking part in classes, on December 8th I personally went to the Hickman High School to discuss the issue. I took with me a copy of Attorney General (AG) Schmitt’s December 7, 2021 letter to the MO public schools and a copy of the Dec. 7 press release from the AG’s office regarding the letter. I briefly spoke with [….] and asked why CPS was not complying with the judge’s order and follow-up order fromAG to immediately cease CPS’ mask mandate. At first [….] simply referred to the CPS Administration office stating he was following policy. When I politely challenged that the AG’s order was sent to the schools on Dec. 7 [….] denied that the school had received the order on Dec. 7, yet when I showed him the Dec. 7 press release he stated he had seen it ‘on line’. I politely reminded [….] that as an adult leader to students he was personally responsible for obeying the law.

I recorded the above meeting on my personal cell phone (careful not to record any students, only my face is visible, but [….] voice is clearly recorded). You may view/download the video here
[….]

After leaving Hickman High I promptly traveled to and presented the AG’s Dec. 7th letter and a copy of the press release to the friendly receptionist at the Columbia Public Schools Administrative building. I was informed that there were no actual offices at this facility but the receptionist could send copies of the documents I submitted to each of the School Board members if I wished. I affirmed my desire that each member receive a copy. I recorded this brief interaction and it can be viewed/downloaded here [….]

Photos of the documents I delivered to both [….] at Hickman and to the receptionist at the CPS Administration building are attached. Not the highlights and my contact information written on the first page.

It is quite apparent the Columbia Public Schools administrators do not believe they are bound by court rulings nor the follow-up order from our Attorney General. I am asking that this be investigated immediately and our children’s rights protected. I greatly appreciate your service to the people of Missouri
[….]

A polite reminder – press releases generally do not have the force of law.

“…careful not to record any students…” Is that throwing shade at Eric Schmitt? Just asking.

Good morning! I am not sure if you can send cease and desist letters to St. Louis Cathlic schools that are part of the archdiocese?

Subject: Masking in Public Schools

Mr. Schmitt,

Why on earth would you, the Attorney General of Missouri ask for pictures of children? Taken WITHOUT parental consent?

I understand you want to overturn the mask mandate. Fine. However, asking strangers to take pictures of children wearing masks is dangerous and reckless.

My children CHOOSE to wear a mask; WITH or WITHOUT a mandate. I wear a mask because I have multiple auto immune diseases and CHOOSE to wear a mask as well. I’m not a radical ‘wear a mask or you’ll harm others’ person. However, I am a parent and I do believe in our God given rights, Consitutional Rights and Human Rights. This request violates all of those.

Your request isn’t a sound request, considering ‘data’ will be flawed. Therefor, irrelevant. You ‘may’ get photos of faculty and/or students that CHOOSE to wear a mask.
You 100% can not, you are encouraging strangers to approach children while at school, in the school yard etc. to have them ask the child. If that is the case you are putting children’s safety at risk and violating their expectation of privacy while attending school. What is worse, you just gave pedophiles and the like just cause to sit on our children’s playgrounds and photograph them!

Surely you can do better than endangering our children, and to what end?
Will fines be issued?
Will our human rights be taken away?

What is YOUR agenda in publishing this witch hunt over masking vs non masking in schools?

Simply put, your request needs to be retracted and an apology issued.

Subject: Lee’s Summit mandate statement

Dear AG Schmitt,
You may have already seen the text below that was emailed to parents in the Lee’s Summit R7 school district, basically disregarding the directive sent from your office.

On a personal level I wanted to let you know that my duaghter is feeling a great deal of pressure to get the vaccination because she thinks that would be better than the shaming that happens toward students who are quarantined.

Our daughter tested positive for Covid over the Summer break, but of course no regard is given those who now have natural immunity (which is a separate issue that need to be addressed).

I’,m asking for your office to look into the continued mask mandate at LSR7 and let me know if they are out of compliance with your directive.

I have some photos of the statement that [….] put out yesterday morning as well as a conversation with my son from school when he texted me to inform me that he was being force to wear a mask again. A member of the superintendents office, who refused to identify himself, has also told several parents that there is a clause that allows the school to wait until after the board meets to decide but they may not get to meet until after school comes back from the holiday break. They currently have a board meeting scheduled for the 16th of December.

Yesterday when I sent my 4th grader and kindergarten to school and they told the teachers that they would not be wearing a mask to school on Thursday. Their teachers told them that they had heard wrong and that they would be sent home if they didn’t come to school in a mask.
I will be taking them to school today with NO MASK. Both of my boys have Asthma and one has Trachomalacia which makes it more harmful for them to be masked since they are more susceptible to infections in their lungs. The masked need to go. They need to breath fresh air again instead of air thats trapped in their masks that they have sneezed in, coughed in, dropped on the ground, and so on.
Thank you for fighting for our kids! We appreciate everything that you do for our state!

How dare you put the lives of our children at risk to score political points! Covid is real and masks save lives. My grandson attends Columbia Public Schools and we strongly support the mask mandate. Subject: Kiddie Academy – Chesterfield, MO

Hello,
I am contacting you because our child is being forced to quarantine from his school due to a teacher contracting covid. The teachers are required to wear masks all day while with the students. We are being told to quarantine for the 2nd time in ~45 days and that we still have to pay for our ‘tuition’ during these times. As you can imagine this is a very difficult situation for both sides but I feel it is completely unnecessary to be putiing a financial burden on families when services are not being rendered. On top of the financial aspect, it is very difficult for parents to plan within the timeframe we are notified. It is also extremely challenging to watch our 4-year-old child while trying to maintain our careers.

I have attached the communication from the Kiddie Acadaemy located in Chesterfield.

I am asking for your assistance in this matter.

Thanks

Pro tip: Your ‘anonymous’ signature isn’t really anonymous when the email header contains your email address as part of a public record.

There are over 8000 pages. This disheartening display of arrogance, self righteousness, willful ignorance, stupidity, entitlement, narcissism, insanity, and sarcasm is breathtaking in its volume.

Public schools have to be open to and accept all students. That’s not necessarily the case with private and parochial schools. Generally parents have to pay tuition (and in some cases provide their student’s uniforms) for those private and parochial schools.

In the past polling in Missouri would indicate a pride in and fierce loyalty to local public schools. If these emails are any indication, that support has eroded. If right wingnut politicians can turn people against their local public schools they can easily turn them against anything and anyone. Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt (r) has easily demonstrated this possibility with his political stunt in support of his U.S. Senate primary campaign.

We’re not going to thank him for enabling and helping to confirm the obvious.

This is inevitable when our culture considers public education as if it’s nothing more than cheap and convenient childcare.
