Chris Wallace, faux News, Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart entered the belly of the beast (yeah, there’s an ad at the start of this clip):

http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:video:thedailyshow.com:389999

….Jon Stewart: You believe that Fox News is exactly the ideological equivalent [crosstalk] of NBC News.

Chris Wallace: I think we’re the counterweight. I think we’re the counterweight.

Jon Stewart: You believe that [crosstalk]…

Chris Wallace: I think that they have a liberal agenda and I think we tell the other side of the story.

[cut away from video]

Jon Stewart: The other side of the story. We don’t, we don’t tell both sides of the story. We tell one side. The other side. The one we perceive as never told [inaudible]. ‘Cause as you know news only comes in two sides. [laughter] And if the conservative side isn’t being told what’s being told must be liberal. Fox News isn’t fair and balanced it’s balancing the system, man. Don’t you get it? The system’s unfair and unbalanced. To balance the system Fox has to be the purest form of right wing resin because of how [laughter], because of how heavy left wing America is. Hollywood, comedians, every single news organization, the Internet, facts [laughter], history, science, it’s all just left wing [bleep], man…

We knew that already:

A protest sign from a few years ago.

March 25, 2004:

Wholly without merit

We’ve continued our daily vigil on the Quad at our university for over a year. Yesterday I was joined by other activists, one by one, until by the end of our vigil our host numbered six.  My colleague, the fourth to join us, noted as he approached, “Boy, you really notice it when there are three of you standing out here.”  And we were noticed.  You could see the people walking in the distance slow perceptibly as the passed, some squinting to read our signs.

I handed out signs to those who joined us.  The usual question from me is “Which one do you want?”  Some signs are more aggressive than others – the recipient choosing that with which they are most comfortable.

After I passed out signs I took up the “Faux News Channel, fascist groupies” sign.  And yes, it is aggressive.  At that time an individual slowed in the distance and called out “Does that make me a fascist?”  It was an interesting reaction to observe – taking the content of a sign directed at a corporate entity as a personal affront.  We had all been engaged in conversation.  Upon hearing his question we all looked up.  My colleague called back, “It just means you’re misinformed.  Is that where you get all your information?”  He replied, “Fox on the right, CNN on the left.”  Several of us started laughing.  Others in our group asked for a repetition of what he had said and upon hearing it, added to the laughter.  It is symptomatic of this skewed world view that not being Fox News and actually being center right equates with a conveniently packaged leftist label.  That standard would make Attila the Hun a moderate.  And infinitely more compassionate.

He continued walking away in the distance as the sounds of our laughter followed him.

Robin Carnahan (D) Senate Campaign: the Faux News lawsuit is a gift which keeps on giving

Heh. There’s got to be somebody at Faux News who spoke up at a meeting and said, “let’s sue Robin Carnahan’s campaign for using some of our video clips in an ad” who is thankful that he doesn’t have to clear his desk out at the end of business today only because everyone else around the table probably agreed so enthusiastically that it was a mondo boffo idea.

[Mindy Mazur – Campaign Manager

Robin Carnahan for Senate]

Mindy Mazur: Hey, guess what I’m doing? I’m standing up to Congressman Blunt. And you should, too. And while we’re doing that we’re gonna stand up to Fox News as well. Their parent company has given Congressman Blunt ten thousand dollars over the years. But in just one day we’ve already gotten four hundred donations supporting us in standing up to tell the truth. But we want five hundred. George in St. Louis, thanks for being number four hundred. You out there who haven’t donated yet, it’s your turn. Help us out, go to Robin Carnahan dot com. Thanks.

My advice to Robin Carnahan’s campaign – keep beating this like a big bass drum.

You make the ad, we sue you to protect our candidate

faux News, Robin Carnahan, Roy Blunt, Senate race

There’s a first time for everything, so Congrats to Robin Carnahan’s campaign on being sued by Faux News and here’s some “best of” from this situation.

“The Carnahan Ad is designed to make it appear as if Wallace – a trusted journalist – is instead speaking as a campaign operative,” the suit says.

1. They have trusted journalists at Faux News? That’s a pretty big claim to make in a lawsuit.

2. Obviously Faux personalities would not act as campaign operatives. Ask Mike Castle. They have a shock collar hidden to prevent that activity.

The suit, which says that Wallace won every major broadcast news award, claims the Carnahan ad “intruded upon Wallace’s private self-esteem and dignity; and caused him emotional or mental distress and suffering.”

If you’re gonna go for the lawsuit, go 100% and make up as much favorable stuff as possible. I hope that his kids weren’t made fun of at school too.

Fox’s suit asks the judge to yank the commercial from the air – its already been taken off YouTube — and order the Carnahan campaign to pay “reasonable attorneys’ fees” and undetermined monetary damages.

So Faux is off the bandwagon for tort “reform”?

Fox News is being represented by Lathrop and Gage in Kansas City.

No kidding?

Probably that a Republican would be getting sued by Faux for using a Faux news appearance to make their Democratic opponent look bad: -6% (they’d probably air the ad for free)

We wish Chris Wallace and Faux News a speedy recovery from effects of that ad existing. We know it’s been so hard. Since people never lie/distort on legal filings.

Kind of hard to argue the ad isn’t having an effect when Faux has to run defense for Roy Blunt. You don’t sue over ineffective ads.

That was then, this is now:

Methinks Faux News doth protest too much.

Misperceptions, The Media and The Iraq War PIPA[pdf]

…The extent of Americans’ misperceptions vary significantly depending on their source of news. Those who receive most of their news from Fox News are more likely than average to have misperceptions. Those who receive most of their news from NPR or PBS are less likely to have misperceptions. These variations cannot simply be explained as a result of differences in the demographic characteristics of each audience, because these variations can also be found when comparing the demographic subgroups of each audience…

Heh. Fairly imbalanced.

This has got to be a parody. Nobody is that stoopid. Only an idiot would wade into a crowd of anarchists in the middle of a live broadcast. I swear I saw this in a fake newscast within a cheesy television show, you know, like The A-Team.

I pity the fool.
