If your constituents don’t, you can say whatever you want.

Representative Vicky Hartzler (r) [2016 file photo].

This morning, from Representative Vicky Hartzler (r):

Rep. Vicky Hartzler @RepHartzler
I agree, @RepDougCollins. Dems are now pushing impeachment even though Mueller did not recommend any indictments.

Let’s be clear: I stand with our president. I hope Dems will put the charades aside, work with @HouseGOP and President Trump, and keep America moving forward.
[….]
9:58 AM · Sep 9, 2019

Much hilarity ensues in the responses:

So it does not bother you Trump is using the military to prop up his resort in Scotland?

Either you can’t read or you hate this country enough to leave it in the hands of the man the actual #MuellerReport proved was a criminal

Uh, both?

Mueller believed that a sitting president could not be indicted. That’s the only reason Trump didn’t get indicted. But please, go on being loyal to a selfish and corrupt man who will betray you the instant he no longer finds you useful as he dismantles our democracy for gain.

Admitting to a national audience that you do not support the rule of law, our constitution, morals, honesty and integrity? Mmm. Not a good look.

That river was crossed long ago.

So dishonest, Vicky.

Mueller made clear his intent was to send the report to CONGRESS FOR CONGRESS TO ACT on the report’s materials.

Mueller was PROHIBITED from indicting a SITTING PRESIDENT.

Congress, INCLUDING YOU, should take their responsibility more seriously.

Did you actually read the Mueller Report or listen to anything he said as he testified? Mueller stated he could not exonerate the President and that he did not have the power to indict. He clearly intended Congress needed to fully investigate. Congress needs to do its job!

The only reason he did not recommend indictments was the DOJ guidance that a sitting president can not be indicted. He can, of course, be impeached which is what will happen.

“I stand with our president.”

I wish you would stand with your constituents int he 4th District instead. Your primary loyalty is in the wrong place.

Bull. #Mueller clearly stated that the reason he did not recommend any indictment was just the DOJ “rule”, and that he WOULD indict otherwise.

#trumpImpeachableOffenses go beyond the #MuellerReport.

Missourians know bullshit when they see it and smell it.

So you think the rule of law and upholding their constitutional duty is a charade? So much for your oath of office. I hope you didn’t swear on your beloved bible. #ImpeachTrumpNowNANCY

Mueller couldn’t indict a sitting president. Do you not remember that. He left it up to Congress. You obviously have zero regard for the truth and the law.

So, you’re fine with your orange savior violating the Constitution with the Emoluments Clause? You’re fine w/him taking $ from the military to pad his pocket?

There are countless reasons why good people are fleeing the GOP. This is just one of them.

The contempt you show for voters by lying to them so easily is absolutely disgusting. Your addiction to political tribalism is just as disgusting.

The so-called president was not exonerated.

This is bogus. You KNOW that Mueller expected Congress to act because he was NOT ALLOWED to indict this m’fucker.

So, you support a pathological liar, sexual predator, serial adulterer, racist who incites violence & cages children in inhumane conditions &!corrupt, treasonous mad man?

You betray your oath. You lost 40 House seats & didn’t learn 1 thing.

Enabling a traitor makes you 1, too

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…

On Twitter yesterday:

Jean Evans @mojeanevans
If the public “approved” of your ideas, they’d vote for your candidates. Amirite?
[….]
10:46 PM · Sep 5, 2019

There was much hilarity in the responses:

The public voted against right to work, for a minimum wage increase, for Clean MO, and for medical marijuana.

If it makes to the ballot, they will also probably vote against your fundamentalist abortion laws and for Medicaid expansion.

I don’t vote republican and thousands of us don’t. This state is gerrymandered because republicans can’t win if they don’t cheat.

Actually they do approve of Dem ideas, as per the last several ballot issues. Gerrymandering and over-representation of rural counties in the #moleg has prevented Dems from making inroads in the state legislature. But you knew that, b/c you’ve been part of it.

You must have been in a coma when prop A, clean mo, minimum wage and medical marijuana passed.

Republicans have 87% of the reps but only 52% of the votes.

Do you not really see the problem with that?

We knew that:

The distribution of votes (statewide) by party for the Missouri House of Representatives – November 2018

The distribution of seats by party in the Missouri House of Representatives – 2019 Session

Are you being intentionally obtuse or just very stupid? It’s 2019 and I am out of energy for trying to figure this out for every state-level Republican operative so now I’m just asking. #moleg

Nope, you’re not.

Well, there is the matter of the leader of the Republican Party:

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…

It’s not so much that Donald Trump (and those around him) blatantly lies much of the time. It’s that they believe most of us are stupid enough to believe him in the face of the overwhelming evidence otherwise. And that they believe they’ll easily get away with it.

The frightening part is that they’re quite possible correct in their assumptions.

Trump Shows Hurricane’s Path With Apparent Doctored Bubble To Include Alabama
By Kate Riga September 4, 2019 2:53 pm

President Donald Trump on Wednesday displayed a map of Hurricane Dorian’s forecast path that appeared to feature a bubble scribbled on to include Alabama, a state which Trump had earlier insisted, against direct proof, would be hit.
