19th Senate District, attack, Kurt Schaefer, mail, Mary Still, missouri

Standard republican operating procedure.

Representative Mary Still (D), the Democratic Party candidate in the 19th Senate District, on the floor of the Missouri House, March 21, 2012.

In April 9, 2011, in the Washington Monthly:

…On the Senate floor yesterday, Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), eager to prove that the budget debate wasn’t just about Planned Parenthood, spent some time on the Senate floor going after Planned Parenthood.

“Everybody goes to clinics, to doctors, to hospitals, so on,” Kyl said. “Some people go to Planned Parenthood. But you don’t have to go to Planned Parenthood to get your cholesterol or your blood pressure checked. If you want an abortion, you go to Planned Parenthood, and that’s well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does.”

That’s not even close to being accurate. Just 3% of the organization’s work is related to terminating pregnancies, while “well over 90% of Planned Parenthood does” relates to preventative health care services….

….As political spin goes, this is a true gem. Kyl said abortion is “well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does” — a blatant lie — and when called on it, his defense is that his remarks on the Senate floor were “not intended to be a factual statement.” What an amazing way to justify all bogus claims — just make stuff up, and if anyone notices that you’re not telling the truth, simply explain that your nonsense was “not intended to be a factual statement….”

[emphasis added]

Today, in the 19th Senate District race, a story about a republican attack piece against Mary Still (D):

GOP ad accusing Still of missing votes takes liberties with dates

By Rudi Keller

Saturday, October 27, 2012

A Republican direct mail piece attacking Rep. Mary Still for missing votes includes a mention of 100 votes taken while she was hospitalized and cites dates when Still was either on hand or the House was on vacation….

….The fact that the dates used are not dates when Still actually missed votes do not undermine the message of the circular, said Jonathon Prouty, spokesman for the Missouri GOP. “If the statements that are made are not actual statements but made to highlight a particular part of the failed record, then the dates are insignificant,” he said…..

We live in a post fact, post truth, post sane America. The stoopid, it burns.

Ed Martin’s (r) campaign for Attorney General is the beneficiary of one of the republican campaign contribution saints of lost causes.

2012, Claire McCaskill, missouri, poll, Senate, Todd Akin

Claire McCaskill’s campaign released the top line numbers in the latest Kiley & Company internal poll done for her campaign. The poll was completed Thursday night, had a sample of 600 likely voters, and a margin of error of 3.5%:

….The partisan breakdown of this sample is 45% Republican; 38% Democratic; and 17% Independents who do not lean toward either party. The seven-point Republican advantage in party identification is very consistent with previous polls….

The numbers:

McCaskill – 53%

Akin – 39%

Other – 1%

Not sure – 7%

7% are “not sure”?

Further:

….Also consistent with our previous tracker, McCaskill has the nearly unanimous support of Democrats (93% to 6%), and a solid, 24-point margin among Independents (56% to 32%).

McCaskill enjoys a 20-point lead among women, but she is also ahead by 8 points among men…

.

…Akin’s already-poor ratings have deteriorated further in this latest measure: only 30% of all voters have a favorable opinion of him, fully 58% now express an unfavorable impression.

In sharp contrast, Senator McCaskill’s ratings are 51% favorable and 43% unfavorable…

…voters trust her rather than Akin to protect Social Security and Medicare by a 23-point margin. By similar margins they see her as effective (+23), likeable (+24) and someone who cares about them (+18)….

Uh. Todd (r), that’s not good for you.

Interesting. The results of letting right wingnut whack jobs take over the republican party. If you shine the light of day on them they lose.

Apparently, the one percent aren’t particularly concerned about the appearance of grassroots support.

And there is another one percenter in the game for the same candidate.

2012, ad, Gay, Lieutenant Governor, missouri, Peter Kinder, Susan Montee

In the Lieutenant Governor race incumbent Peter Kinder (r) has fired off an attack ad against Susan Montee (D):

Announcer: Susan Montee claims she’s conservative. No way. Here she is at the St. Louis gay pride parade. She’s a real liberal activist. Montee’s pro-abortion. She backs Obamacare. No wonder the NRA opposes her…

Timeout. Uh, there’s a prohibition against abortion and health care reform written somewhere in the 2nd Amendment?

Peter Kinder’s the conservative. He sued to block Obamacare….

Timeout. That didn’t turn out so well, did it?

…cut taxes three hundred twenty million dollars, delivered the back to school sales tax holiday. Peter Kinder for Lieutenant Governor. It’s the conservative results that count.

Heh. These kind of conservative results? Just asking.

Update:

Susan Montee ‏@SusanMontee

Equality. Why would anyone be against that? http://bit.ly/TL3RdC 5:38 PM – 26 Oct 12

clinton ‏@SECbest

Why does @peterkinder think its bad for @susanmontee to be @ pride parade but ok for campaign contributor AB-InBev to sponsor it? #MOLtGov 5:50 PM – 26 Oct 12

Good questions.
