Josh Hawley (r) took to social media last night in some kind of indignation:

Josh Hawley @HawleyMO
.@AbigailShrier⁩ nails it: congregating in public is now a “privilege” extended to political activists but denied religious believers
[….]
9:13 PM · Jun 6, 2020

Some of the responses:

You’re embarrassing Missouri

If people want to pray on the sidewalk, or other traditional public forum, they can. You’ve confused the ability to jam donors into a tax free semi-private club with free exercise of the 1st Amendment. As a former law professor I’d hope you might understand that.

Worship can be done at home, or remotely. Protesting systemic police brutality less so.

Wow tone deaf much?!

So your argument is that it’s OK for churches to have great numbers of people and get them sick? And that’s equivalent to people rightly angry about the overreach of the police? Strange Christian view to take, as I see it.

Read the room Mr. Hawley

He can’t. He’s running around wearing a bucket on his head.

Funny, my church doesn’t think it is wise to open back up yet and pushed their planned reopening. All on their own.

I live in your home state, Senator. Been to mass 7 times in the last 2 weeks. My church was never closed. Mass was done via live feed on FB or YouTube, but the church was open for worship, as were our homes. As far as congregation—did you see the photos from Lake of the Ozarks??

Let’s talk about it at your next town hall. Oh, that’s right, you were social distancing from your constituents before it was cool. Peaceful protests =/= riots and the church isn’t a building.

So much whining. Resign.

Congregations have continued to fellowship, pray, learn, and help during the crisis. They have used new and old methods. Sitting in a pew every Sunday isn’t the only way to #DoChurch. There are many believers in the protests you rail against who are standing up in His Name.

My God doesn’t require I be in a building. He requires that I stand up for & protect other sons & daughters of God for “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”. Hence why protest is 1 of the MOST Christian things we can do.

Matthew 6:5 kind of sums you up, though, Josh. “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men.” Quit being a hypocrite.

Being outdoor with masks and social distancing carries relatively low risk.

Sitting and singing indoors in a packed congregation for hours carries much, much higher risk.

It’s not about elite privilege – it’s about scientific reality.

Well, God’s not real. However, racial oppression is very real.

Have church in the streets and pray for justice. I have seen multiple clergy at every march I have attended.

Maybe you don’t understand religion.

No heart in that grifter or Huckster Hawley.

Oh shut up. I attend services regularly. My children go to religious school.

We all know the difference between the right to protest violence against other humans and the right to pray. We pray with our congregation online but take to the streets to protest violence.

Get your head out of your behind, Hawley. I’m tired of the pearl-clutching Christian politics.

Utter bullshit. Who writes this tripe, anyway?

What an asinine statement

Wow, that’s an interesting twist of reality. You supported armed protesters with no masks pushing States to open. Now you bash peaceful protesters with masks and claim it’s the same as church.. closed room, communion, … yup makes sense to… nobody.

are you serious??? We can worship God anywhere but politicians like you have done nothing to combat racism so you drove us to the streets

You are so purposely obtuse. Disingenuous.

[….] overcoming systemic rasicism is beyond your intelligence. Please stop embarrassing yourself.

Not one time have you condemned the murder of George Floyd or ecaressed regret for the racism in America. In your few rare acknowledgements that this is going on, you’ve exclusively presented statements against the protests. Do you just not care about the POC you represent or….

“I’m a Republican Senator; we always quote scripture when we are committing a crime.”

Oh poor you. Loser

Bad combover. Check. Too long red tie. Check. Orange spray tan. Check. Tiny hands. Check. Cluelessness. Check…

After last night’s assault by federal law enforcement on peaceful protesters in Washington, D.C. – so Donald Trump could hold up a bible for a photo-op:

Kasie Hunt @kasie
Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., stops to talk to cameras, says he has seen “conflicting reports” of what happened at the White House. Says looting and violence is detracting from what should be the focus on George Floyd.
1:11 PM · Jun 2, 2020

As always, some of the responses:

U should of told him it was in Hong Kong. Only then he would of believe you.

There was no looting or violence at Lafayette Park when Trump ordered the peaceful protesters to be gassed.

It was a peaceful demonstration. We watched this live on television. There is plenty of video/audio evidence.

Trumps fake photo op, (look at me) terrorizing peaceful protesters, gassing them, hitting them with shields & moving up curfew by 1/2 hour is a distraction. Trump saying he loves peaceful protesters, is a blatant LIE. He ordered his militia to “dominate” the crowd using force.

I didn’t realize the White House had been looted. What did the looters get? Did the media catch any of it on film?

[….]Republican corruption is only exceeded by cowardice.[….]

Really?

Former Governor Eric Greitens (r) [2016 file photo].

Eric Greitens @EricGreitens
In the past, we’ve had leaders who wanted to give people a safe space to loot and to burn.

When I was Governor, we were clear that if someone looted, or burned, the only safe space they were going to have was in a jail cell.
[….]
3:08 PM · Jun 1, 2020

On his anniversary.

As usual, the responses are priceless.

[….]No one cares what you think, you lying, pathetic, law breaking, racist, sexual assaulting troll.[….]

When you were governor, you just tied up and blackmailed your mistresses.[….]

You’re irrelevant. Be quiet.

OMG. The have the #dirtymoney #tieherup #stealfromcharity disgraced ex governor on giving advice as to deal with violence? The world is upside down

I had forgotten all about you. No one cares about your opinion

Get back under your rock.

Tell us again, Eric, what else happened when you were Governor. For instance, why you’re NOT Governor. We’ll wait.

Are you still trying to be relevant?

Did you construct jails out of duct tape? Did you tie anyone up?

And your safe word was…?

Being here in Missouri really worked out for you, eh?

Oh, please, for the love of all that is holy, go away.

– A Missouri citizen that didn’t forget

You forfeited by quitting two years ago today, sexual predator. Now bugger off.

Didnt you leave in disgrace? Stay gone

Interesting. Why did you stop being Governor again?

Aren’t you the guy who got run out of office in disgrace?? Get lost, punk.

A safe space like your basement?

You are a terrible human being. Stand down. Stop embarrassing our state any more!

“When” you were Governor. How did that end?

There’s a reason you don’t work there anymore.

Oh man you should really sit everything out not just this situation but everything. You must be enjoying the masks … Oh I’m sorry, it was blindfolds wasn’t it?

@FoxNews has no standards at all.

Your basement doesn’t count as a safe space.

You resigned in shame! Now go away!

You’re an idiot

You might want to sit this one out, asshole.

#resist, George Floyd, missouri, protest, Warrensburg

This afternoon, starting a little before 2:00 p.m. in downtown Warrensburg, Missouri.

“Black Lives Matter”

Warrensburg Police had a relaxed presence with officers at the south end of the demonstration at the intersection of Holden and Pine and officers at the north end of the demonstration on Holden Street. On occasion police vehicles would drive by.

A conversation.

“Black Lives Matter”

A good p0rtion of the crowd wore masks. Some wore gloves. Social distancing was haphazard.

“No justice, no peace”

“End Police Brutality”

“White silence is compliance”

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about what matters”

“Black Lives Matter”

“Justice”

“United Against Racism”

“Justice for George Floyd”

“No justice, no peace”

“I can’t breathe”

“Justice for George Floyd”

One individual, who had been praying on the sidewalk, took to Holden Street. Someone from the crowd held traffic while he prayed.

Praying in the street.

“Black Lives Matter”

“Cop are not above the law”

“Black Lives Matter”

“Black Live Matter” “End Police Brutality”

Writing his name – George Floyd.

This was one of the largest crowds I’ve seen at a demonstration in Warrensburg in a long time. The group was much younger than usual, with a good representation of the older, experienced crowd – the usual suspects.

According to social media posts, after we left the demonstration, the crowd marched to the University and quite a distance around Warrensburg. One social media post estimated the crowd to number between 150 and 200.
