Senator Kamala Harris’ (D) presidential campaign has released a new ad commemorating her August Iowa bus tour.

And there I am, ever so briefly, twenty-two seconds into the ad:

The ad:

One of the greatest strengths about who we are as a people is in our core, in our heart, we know we all have so much more in common than what’s…

Senator Harris is kicking off a five-day bus tour… [….] I love being in Iowa. You have made me a better candidate…

Today California Senator Kamala Harris will be making a stop right here in Sioux City.

It is the conversations that we’ve been having that have really given me a lot of perspective on some of the biggest issues that are facing us as a country.

There are two groups of people raising our children. Parents, often with the assistance of grandparents and aunts and uncles, and our teachers but we are not paying them their value.

[….]

If we have faith to see what can be, unburdened by what has been, we move mountains.

Let’s have a problem-solving president, let’s deal with the issues that are challenging us, and let’s write the next chapter about the America we believe in.

This campaign is about all of us. It is so much bigger than me. I cannot do this without you. I need you. Everything that you guys are doing out there that is about touching your neighbors and your friends and perfect strangers, it’s about all of us knowing our power, each of us to lift people up, right, and to remind them that we see them and we hear them and that they matter.

Senator Claire McCaskill’s campaign isn’t wasting any time, releasing a new ad:

Narrator: It’s a Missouri story born in Houston under the shadow of the McCaskill family mill. There was a drought that year, business slowed and the family moved around – Houston, Lebanon, Columbia. Clare worked her way through college and law school, waiting tables.

For years she drove a rusted through Chevy Nova. For her first campaign she knocked on eleven thousand four hundred and thirty two doors, and she won. It was a rough time to be the youngest woman in Jeff City, but they say she gave back as good as she got. Raising three kids as a single mom she relied on family.

As Jackson County Prosecutor, then State Auditor, Claire was always independent and always working across the aisle to make a difference. Now a grandmother of eleven she’s still the same as our Senator.

Claire McCaskill’s never left Missouri – she takes this story to work with her every day, because we all have a story – and Claire’s fighting to protect it.

Sen. Claire McCaskill (D): I’m Claire McCaskill and I approve this message.

“…listen, I’m a Mizzou educated lawyer, but I can keep up. [laughter] And I know what the word shall means in the law. Now I know he went to Yale, I think, or Harvard, one of those, one of those fancy ones. Um, I think they taught him the same thing, shall is shall…” – Senator Claire McCaskill (D) on Josh Hawley (r) – August 17, 2017

We can’t wait for that to appear in a campaign ad.

“Not this time” – Trump Muslim ban protest at Kansas City International Airport – January 29, 2017

Pro tip: actual protests are usually not color coordinated with the product you’re trying to market.

And, if they’d like, we could probably help them out with cello stuff, too.

The newest ad from Teresa Hensley’s (D) 2016 campaign for Attorney General:

The Attorney General’s job is to protect Missouri’s most vulnerable. Teresa Hensley understands that. And so do the people she’s fought for.

She prosecuted the man who broke into my house and attacked me.

There was five prosecutions in my grandfather’s murder and she got five convictions.

Teresa was protecting me, but she was also protecting every woman in Missouri.

She told us how it was gonna go and that’s exactly how it went.

Teresa is the only one I trust as Missouri’s Attorney General.

Teresa Hensley, a prosecutor for Attorney General.

Teresa Hensley (D): As prosecutor I’ve fought for Missourians who needed a voice. [Teresa Hensley, Former Cass County Prosecutor] The Attorney General’s job is to protect our most vulnerable. I’m the one candidate who’s done that.

Announcer: Teresa Hensley, twenty-four years in a courtroom. Over ninety child sex abuse convictions. Twenty-one murder cases, Twenty-one convictions. And Teresa Hensley is endorsed by Missouri’s FOP.

Teresa Hensley (D): I’m the only candidate with a record of seeking justice above politics. [Teresa Hensley, A Prosecutor for Attorney General] That’s the job. And why I’m asking to serve as your Attorney General.

Jason Kander (D) – Warrensburg – August 14, 2016.

Jason Kander’s (D) U.S. Senate campaign released an ad today titled “Background Checks”:

[Jason Kander][wearing a blindfold, disassembled rifle]

Jason Kander (D): [assembling rifle] I’m Jason Kander and Senator Blunt has been attacking me on guns. Well, in the Army I learned how to use and respect my rifle. In Afghanistan I’d volunteer to be an extra gun in a convoy of unarmored SUVs. And in the state legislature I supported Second Amendment rights. I also believe in background checks so that terrorists can’t get their hands on one of these. I approve this message [assembled rifle, removes blindfold] because I’d like to see Senator Blunt do this.

[Jason Kander for U.S. Senate]

[Paid for by Missourians for Kander, Approved by Jason Kander]

Devastating.

This ad was made possible by an environment where the republican gubernatorial nominee, Eric Greitens (also a veteran) ran ads of himself firing a minigun and shooting at an exploding target. This ad is probably the one Eric Greitens (r) should have run.

There is a difference – Jason Kander definitely knows guns, he also knows he doesn’t have to expend ammunition to make his point.

Stephen Webber’s (D) campaign has a new television ad out:

Stephen Webber (D): This is the last place I came before I deployed to Iraq. And the first when I came home.

Al Shattuck: Webber served two tours of duty in Iraq.

Al Barnes: He’s one of the best leaders I’ve ever had.

Voice: Webber was our squad leader and he definitely looked out for us.

Nic Gibbons: Webber always led from the front. He was the first vehicle, he’d lead on the patrol every single time. And he did it humbly, too.

Aaron Schulz: The reason he was in front is because if something happened he wanted to be the one up there that was in harm’s way.

Voice: When we first arrived in Fallujah it was a totally different world.

Voice: There was improvised explosive devices. We had snipers, firefights. It takes a real leader, someone like Webber that keeps his team and his squad on point all the time.

Bryan Miller: I was in the Humvee with Webber when we hit an IED. Forty pounds, C4.

Aaron Schulz: He got everybody home safe.

Voice: I believe in him as a person, as a leader, and as a friend.

Stephen Webber (D): No matter what I faced in Iraq or here at home, these names and the memory of their sacrifice humbles me and gives me the strength to serve.

Jason Kander’s (D) campaign has been running an ad discussing Roy Blunt’s Washington, D.C. record.

Jason Kander (D): I’m Jason Kander and I approve this message.

Announcer: Is Washington working for your family? After twenty years there it’s working great for Roy Blunt’s family. Senator Blunt voted to raise his own pay twelve times. He lives in a one point six million dollar D.C. Mansion. And his wife and three of his children are all lobbyists. When asked about the conflict of interest, Blunt said:

Roy Blunt: I, I, I don’t even understand why that would be a question.

Announcer: There is no question. Missouri needs a new senator.

Jason Kander’s (D) first U.S. Senate race broadcast television ad is up:

Jason Kander (D): This is what Afghanistan looks like when you’re an extra gun in an unarmored SUV. I’m Jason Kander. I enlisted after nine eleven and was an Army intelligence officer rooting out corruption in the Afghan government.

When I came home I worked to reform state government, saved tax dollars as Secretary of State, now I’m running for Senate and I approve this message because there are too many politicians in Washington who only care about themselves.

We need more leaders willing to sacrifice for their country.

ad, missouri, Roy Blunt, Senate, super PAC

There’s a super PAC video of b-roll images of Roy Blunt (r) that’s just awesome. The PAC supports Roy Blunt.

Treacly music.
Lens flare.
Rolled up sleeves.
Slow motion. Jump cuts.
Bugs. Lots of them.
That smile. That grin.
More bugs.
More lens flare.
Unintentionally ironic bus wrap.
More rolled up sleeves.
Bugs on the bus windshield.

Cliché images, without substantive content. That about sums up Roy Blunt (r) in the United States Senate.
