Back home I have heard almost no complaints about the shutdown.
Folks tell me keep it shut down.
They were ecstatic to hear we would use this moment for terminations rather than furloughs.

Today:

Eric Burlison
[November 4, 2025]

Democrats are playing games with the American people and taking federal workers and SNAP recipients hostage.
We were the adults in the room. We sent a clean extension. Open the government.

Some of the ecstatic responses on Sunday:

Have a open town hall and you may hear plenty of complaints.

Who are you talking to “back home”? I’m a constituent and you haven’t asked me!

Host a town hall Eric so we can praise you in person 😏

Well, since you’re doing such a great job and your constituents are so happy, why not celebrate with a town hall?

Folks back home tell me this is one of the dumbest generalizations they’ve ever read.
Folks also tell me you should furlough your account until the shutdown has ended. I’ve heard you would probably get almost no complaints about that. 🙄

Sounds like the perfect time for a town hall — when and where will it be held?

There’s a special kind of arrogance in celebrating a shutdown while collecting a taxpayer-funded paycheck. 🙄

*hides from constituents* “No one is complaining to me!”

Eric doesn’t get out much. Why doesn’t he head to a food pantry and talk with folks?

Um – have you actually talked to any of us because everyone I know is pretty mad about you taking a paid vacation while folks here are worried about being able to feed their kids
That’s on both sides of the aisle

Hold a town hall and find out what we really think about the shutdown and your extended paid vacation from your job.

Other than keeping our heads on a swivel and being well armed, nothing has changed in our area. The Demoncratic Communist Party shut down is just plain stupid. A great demonstration of how Socialist policies can be implemented to roll right into Marxist suffering of the people by controlling their food.

Who are you asking? Get out and visit with people. It hasn’t affected me but I care about those it does. I also care about those who will not be able to afford their health insurance. I care about senior citizens and children who will go hungry. People keep saying that democrats want health care for illegal aliens covered. Fine then say you’ll keep the subsidy for American citizens if that part is dropped. Say it loud and clear. Now the argument is over. That’s not it though is it? That’s a convenient spin but in reality you don’t care about people’s health insurance because it doesn’t affect you. You care about the big business breaks because it lines your pockets as well eventually. It is disgusting.

No, we’re 100% not ok with it and the pandering to the private equity/corporate-welfare you guys seem to be completely dedicated to.

If your response to hearing about working class people losing their jobs through no fault of their own is to be ecstatic, you are a terrible human being.

That’s because (a) you talk to the same “folks” and (b) because those “folks” don’t care much about governance.

Is this a joke?!
Congress is on a paid vacation while millions of Americans are suffering, and you think this is what the people elected you for?! Pink slip. Terminations, sure…for congressmen who can’t do their job: negotiate, compromise, govern.

Stop gaslighting us. Talk to people in the state. Watch the news – all news: conservative and liberal. The shutdown is affecting all of us. It is hurting regular people. Have you ever gone without a paycheck this long? Try stepping across the aisle and making compromises rather than trying to put this LIE out and expecting people to believe and be ok with it. What a joke. So disappointed in ALL our government on both sides.

There is a lot more.

Then, responses from today:

Tell Mike to open up the house and negotiate a bipartisan budget. There is literally no rule that says that can’t happen during the filibuster in the Senate. He can throw shade at Schumer until he’s blue in the face. But ultimately, all he really has to do is open the house. Democrats can give up part of what they want, Republicans can get some wins on some of the Democrats demands. Boom. Problem solved.
You congressmen really need to remember that you work for the entire United States at the end of the day. Not just the people that voted for you.

Fund health insurance subsidies

Another LIE, but that’s all Burlison does.
Calling Republicans, who ran and hid for several months now, “adults” is ludicrous.

No you weren’t the adults in the room. There are no adults running the government. It’s just a bunch of toddlers.

#RepublicanShutdown

If you were the adults, you would have NEVER voted yes on the Horriffic bull 💩 bill which cuts billions from SNAP, Medicaid, and Medicare all so the rich get a tax break. Remember that bill? People may not right now, but wait until that kicks in after the mid terms. Stop gaslighting Americans.

Before the shutdown, you voted to slash SNAP. Now you whine because team Trump can’t cut a deal. You are purposely stripping Americans of their access to health care, despite not having a health care plan of your own.

Do you think we’re stupid? You can’t vote on anything when you’re hiding out here. Go back to DC, do your job or resign. You are easily replaced.

Just yesterday you were saying the shutdown was a good thing. Are you okay?

There’s that.

“…..Folks tell me keep it shut down.
They were ecstatic to hear we would use this moment for terminations rather than furloughs”

“….Democrats are playing games with the American people and taking federal workers and SNAP recipients hostage….”

Which is it? Hostage? Termination? Can’t be both.
