We just saw the television ad running in the Kansas City media market paid for by the “Missouri Alliance For Freedom – Grace River PAC” attacking Hillary Shields (D), a candidate in the 8th Senate District special election. Mike Cierpiot (r) is the republican party candidate in the election.

Mike Cierpiot (r) [2017 file photo].

It was easily established that the premise of the ad is a lie.

A lot of money has been passed through to the PAC, including:

C171144 10/26/2017 Missouri Alliance For Freedom – Grace River PAC Missouri Senate Campaign Committee P.O. Box 754 Jefferson City MO 65102 10/24/2017 $20,183.00

[emphasis added]

The Missouri Senate Campaign Committee is the republican state senate PAC.

They helped pay for the ad. They own it. They probably don’t care. They probably think they can get away with it. They’d be right.

Hillary Shields (D), the Democratic Party nominee for the 8th Senate District November special election.

Teresa Hensley (D) [2016 file photo].

Josh Hawley’s (r) 2016 campaign for Attorney General is running a slickly produced television ad. Teresa Hensley’s (D) campaign pointed out the artifice in a press release:

JOSH HAWLEY: MISSOURI’S BAD POLITICAL ACTOR
Hawley pretends to go into a courthouse in first political ad.

PLATTE COUNTY, MO – In his first general election political commercial, Josh Hawley did something he’s never done before: stride towards the Platte County courthouse to practice law and maybe even try a case.  The truth is, Josh Hawley has never represented a client in the Platte County courthouse or, for that matter, in any Missouri county courthouse. He does not take or try cases in Missouri.

Teresa Hensley for Attorney General also released her first commercial this week, largely filmed inside the Historic Cass County Courthouse where she practiced law as a private attorney for 14 years.  Hensley then served as County Prosecutor for 10 years, representing her constituents in a court of law, putting hundreds of felons behind bars, winning convictions for over 500 sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse cases, and an unmatched 21 for 21 murder convictions.

“Missouri has enough bad political actors,” said Hensley spokesperson David Woodruff.  “Josh Hawley has never prosecuted a single criminal or sought justice for a single victim in a Missouri courtroom.  Missouri voters will not be fooled by Josh Hawley’s phony effort and lack of experience.  The Attorney General’s office is not a think tank or a political stepping stone.  It’s a law office for the people of Missouri.”

Okay, that left a mark.

Since July 15th has passed we thought we’d take a look at the Federal Election Commission campaign finance report of LG PAC, the political action committee which started running television ads attacking republican gubernatorial candidate John Brunner in June. The LG PAC July quarterly report filed with the FEC covers the period from April 1st to June 30th.

That’s a lot of “media”.

We looked for Freedom Frontier at the Federal Election Commission and came up with Freedom Frontier Action Network, which interestingly, has a Custodian of Records/Designated Agent with the very same address as Freedom Frontier:

Very interesting.

On January 25, 2016 the Federal Election Commission accepted [pdf] the termination of Freedom Frontier Action Network’s involvement with federal elections (and hence, their need to file disclosure reports with the FEC).

We’ve looked for a Freedom Frontier PAC in Missouri, Texas, and Nevada. It could be our poor search skills, but we couldn’t find anything in those systems.

So, as it stands, someone or many people are possibly spending $2,300,000.00 to be really mean to John Brunner (r). And we still don’t know who is behind it.

2012, ads, Claire McCaskill, missouri, Senate, Todd Akin

Claire McCaskill’s campaign released three ads today:

Senator Claire McCaskill (D): I’m Claire McCaskill and I approve this message.

Diana: I’m a Republican and a pro-life mother, and a rape survivor. In the hospital I was offered emergency contraception. Because of my personal beliefs, I declined. Here’s what else I believe, no woman should be denied that choice. What Todd Akin said is offensive, but what he believes is worse. He would criminalize emergency contraception. I’ve never voted for Claire McCaskill, but because of Todd Akin, I will now.

Senator Claire McCaskill (D): I’m Claire McCaskill and I approve this message.

Joanie: Todd Akin apologized for implying there’s such a thing as legitimate rape. He may have misspoken, but I do believe he showed his true colors and his true intent of what he intends to do if he’s elected. Accepting his apology is up to you. I’m a pro-life mother, and a survivor of an extremely violent sexual assault. As a woman of faith, I must forgive Todd Akin. But as a voter, it’s not something I can forget.

Senator Claire McCaskill (D): I’m Claire McCaskill and I approve this message.

Rachel: Ten years ago I was brutally raped in a home invasion. For me taking control started with taking emergency contraception at the hospital. At the worst moment of her life, no woman should be denied that choice. What Todd Akin said was troubling enough, but it’s what he believes that’s worse. His policies would criminalize emergency contraception for women who are raped. That’s what he would do with his vote in the Senate. What will you do with yours this November?

Akin Ads Pulled Due to Lack of Payment

COLUMBIA – Republican senatorial candidate Todd Akin’s latest round of political ads have been pulled from the airwaves of KOMU 8 and other Missouri TV stations due to a lack of payment as of Thursday….

….The ads weren’t cancelled by the Akin camp….

From Todd Akin’s campaign, disputing the non-payment story, and now exacting face spiting retribution:

…we will not be doing any more business with KOMU-TV…

Because interpretive dance and mimes on street corners are so much more cost efficient and effective.

Oh, the unfairness of it all

2012, ads, Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, president

Mitt Romney (r) has a sad.

The Obama campaign ain’t playing patty cake.

Barack Obama (D): I’m Barack Obama and I approved this message.

David Muir: Was there ever any year when you paid lower than the thirteen point nine percent?

Mitt Romney (r): I, I haven’t calculated that. I’m happy to go back and look.

Narrator: Did Romney pay ten percent in taxes? Five percent? Zero? We don’t know. But we do know that Romney personally approved over seventy million dollars in fictional losses to the IRS as part of the notorious Son of Boss tax scandal. One of the largest tax avoidance schemes in history.

Isn’t it time for Romney to come clean?

A comment at Balloon Juice:

Hi, Mr. President.

Hey, good times, eh? Yep. Crazy campaign, huh. Compared with some others, I wonder how it stacks up. So the reason I called-

Hm, that was out of context? You were talking about infrastructure? Well, yes, but they say about politics, it’s not beanbag. But –

Yeah, I know – those Jeremiah Wright ads, and the Bill Ayres nonsense, and all those birther rumors, that doesn’t seem to have been very fair. So anyway –

What’s that? Swift Boats? Yeah, yeah, I remember those. Pretty effective – what? yeah, took some liberties with the truth, those ads. Yes, yes they did. And speaking of –

Huh? Gore being misquoted? Hm, yes, I seem to remember – something about laughing about him claiming he’d invented the Internet, which he’d never said. Yeah, well, that was a one-time thing, but sure, okay, and related to that –

Willie Horton? Remind me? Oh, right, when ads started claiming the guy running for President was to blame for some murder. Um, right. Yeah, yeah, that really was uncalled for.

So anyway, listen. About those ads you’re running saying I might have something to hide about my career in business that I’m making the centerpiece of the argument for why I should be elected? I kinda think they’re unfair. Could you stop them?

I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear you over all the laughing on your end. Was that a yes?

This.

“When your opponent is drowning, throw the son of a bitch an anvil.” James Carville

So, any guesses about when Mitt Romney (r) releases the rest of his tax returns?

2012, ads, Claire McCaskill, John Brunner, missouri, Sarah Steelman, Senate, Todd Akon

Or, if you didn’t benefit from a classical education and you watch too much television:

…Smithers, release the hounds.

Senator Claire McCaskill’s (D) campaign has released three ads, one each for three of the right wingnut republicans trying to make it past the August primary. In alphabetical order:

Claire Mccaskill (D): I’m Claire McCaskill and I approve this message.

Narrator: The most conservative congressman in Missouri as our senator? Todd Akin. A crusader against bigger government, Akin would completely eliminate the Departments of Education and Energy and privatize Social Security. Todd’s pro-family agenda would outlaw many forms of contraception. And Akin alone says President Obama is a complete menace to our civilization. Todd Akin. Missouri’s true conservative is just too conservative.

Claire McCaskill (D): I’m Claire McCaskill and I approve this message.

Narrator: John Brunner, a reliable conservative? Turns out, records show since two thousand Brunner hasn’t even bothered to vote in sixteen elections. And as a CEO, the media reports, Brunner nearly killed the family business and ran up two hundred forty-five million in debt. No wonder John Brunner can’t even say where he would cut the federal budget. Around here, being reliable means showing up to vote and conservative means you don’t spend more than you make.

Claire McCaskill: I’m Claire McCaskill and I approve this message.

Narrator: Meet Sarah Steelman, she’s just more politics as usual. More pay to play, contributions from big contributors earn Sarah Steelman’s vote for big favors at taxpayer’s expense. More inside deals, taking thousands in gifts from lobbyists in just her first five months in office. And more to hide, in direct violation of sunshine laws, hundreds of key documents from Steelman’s office have gone missing. Sarah Steelman, just more of the same.

And they all thought that Claire wasn’t going to bring a Louisville Slugger to the street fight.

First Announcer: That’s right, more nasty political ads from out of state special interests attacking Claire McCaskill.

Second announcer: But here in Missouri [pronounced: “Missourah”] we won’t be fooled.

First Announcer: This isn’t about abortion.

Second announcer: Claire McCaskill is fighting to prevent abortion. She wants all women to have access to affordable birth control. No government can tell a woman whether she can use birth control.

First Announcer: And this isn’t about religion. Our churches remain free to worship in any way they choose.

Second announcer: No church or hospital will be forced to pay for anything that violates their beliefs. Claire will fight anyone, including the President, to protect our religious freedom.

First Announcer: Just like she led the fight to save the auto industry. And stop the Chinese from cheating Missouri [pronounced: “Missourah”] manufacturers.

Second announcer: And stood up to the Obama administration to stop regulations that would cost Missouri [pronounced: “Missourah”] jobs.

First Announcer: Washington hasn’t seen it in a while, but Claire McCaskill’s independent, Missouri [pronounced: “Missourah”] style.

Second announcer: And we’ve got a senator on our side.

Senator Claire McCaskill: I’m Claire Mccaskill and I approved this message.

Second announcer: Paid for by McCaskill for Missouri, twenty twelve.

Okay, was that an Onion parody?

“…Claire will fight anyone, including the President, to protect our religious freedom…” Uh, has this been a problem?

Wouldn’t it be better to debunk and defend against right wingnut bullshit rather than reinforce their memes? The people that wrote those small campaign contribution checks and who worked their asses off getting someone elected would, you know, probably appreciate it a little bit.

https://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F36902980

Announcer: We’re better than this. Every election year it’s the same. Lies and distortions paid for by out of towners. But this is Missouri [pronounced: “Missourah”]. Around here we know false prophets when we hear ’em. No one believes what they’re saying about Claire McCaskill. Claire grew up in Lebanon, going to church on Sundays, watching her dad work the feed mill. Waiting tables helped pay for her law school and college. Claire’s story is our story. she spent ten years in Jackson County prosecuting violent criminals, then, State Auditor, rooting out wasteful government spending. And now? Now we have a senator on our side. Missouri [pronounced: “Missourah”] style independent. Washington hasn’t seen that in a while. She led the fight to ban earmarks. And Claire’s made an enemy of every special interest out there. Claire’s never forgotten her roots. She can’t. Because that’s who Claire McCaskill is. It’s who we all are.

Senator Claire McCaskill: I’m Claire Mccaskill and I approved this message.

Second announcer: Paid for by McCaskill for Missouri, two thousand twelve.

Okay.

Ah, it’s the Ike Skelton “we’re not pandering to the base” 2010 reelection strategery.
