Today:

Congressman Mark Alford
[January 26, 20250
I am deeply concerned by the recent reports of toxic chemicals found in Henry County soil, as highlighted in recent news articles.
We have been in contact with the complaintant, Bill Steward since January of 2024 regarding the matter.
My staff and I will be in attendance at the Henry County Commission field hearing at the county courthouse in Clinton. We look forward to hearing your concerns.
The health and safety of our community are paramount. Any threat to our environment is a threat to our well-being in the 4th Congressional District.
Our land and water are not just natural resources; they are the lifeblood of our district—supporting agriculture, recreation, and the daily needs of our residents. Protecting these vital assets is essential for our current and future generations.
Our district office is actively monitoring this situation. We are in close communication with state and county leaders to gather all pertinent information and ensure a coordinated response. We are committed to staying on top of this issue, advocating for thorough investigations, and holding any parties responsible for environmental harm accountable.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available and will work tirelessly to safeguard the health of our community and the integrity of our environment.
Congressman Mark Alford
Missouri 4th District

Some of the responses:

Y’all WANTED “de-regulation” – now you have it. Elections have consequences – be careful what you wish for.

Wait, I thought you were in a hurry to get rid of the EPA! And all those other gov. regulations? You’re words on this matter ring very hollow!

How will Drumpf’s move to deregulate and elimination of inspector generals be of help!!

Mark, you support deregulating companies that poison the air and ground. If you could stop kissing the ring long enough to actually do something, that would be great.

he’s auditioning. He has no time for his actual job.

Evergy donated $3,000 to Mark Alford’s 2024 campaign. that about says it all.

Yep.

right – hate poisoned water, poisoned food, Billionaire$ 3rd yacht, sub-living wages, rip-off “health” insurance, underfunded schools, bigotry in general… yep – every hour of every day of the year.

As a former member of the GOP, I am saddened to see the party overran with the MAGA morons, I do despite the demented lying donald, after him mocking the disabled reporter. The commander-in-thief earned it

Trump wants to put a 25% tariffs on Colombia, that makes sure coffee will be 25% higher for we the people,Starbucks say thanks Donnie! And small coffee businesses will be hurt under Trump,we the citizens are so very proud of him , said sarcastically!

Republicans are too busy regulating genitals to care about regulating so we have safe water and air.

Republicans just single handedly gutted the agencies that could enforce change. Don’t pretend you care for the people. Republicans have not cared for the people since before 1960.

You want to deregulate everything, but now there’s this.
Maybe you should just pray for them.

What is felon 47’s plan for the epa? Rollbacks and handing most over to the states was what I read.

Oh so the coal fired power plants that the GOP doesn’t want to shut down and have been know for decades to be dangerous to the health of humans and this planet?
At Davos, Trump said:
“Nothing can destroy coal. Not the weather, not a bomb — nothing. And we have more coal than anybody.”

Elections have consequences. Vote Republican, you get climate change deniers and politicians bought and sold by Big Oil.
We have know coal burning has been bad for people and the environment since at least 1912. (Popular Mechanics, March 1912))
What does Trump do on day 1? Get out of the Paris Accord.
What does Trump do on day 3 or 4? Tell the world burning coal is the future.
[….]

Meanwhile y’all want to dismantle the EPA and stop any alternative form of energy. Called pooping in our own nest.

Funny because you and Republicans continually oppose regulation and corporate responsibility.

You have been aware of this for over a year. Evergy had a PSC hearing in Sedalia in August asking for yet another rate increase. Why wasn’t your office raising questions at that time and at that meeting?

can you also check into the chemtrails. I know some states have started taking action against this, but can we get something going at the federal level.

Okay.

I like how you are wanting to look like a hero but not saying who the culprit is!! You don’t want to say because it is EVERGY! They are not properly managing fly ash and bottom ash from coal combustion at the Lacygne KS and Howthorne power generating stations. They are transporting to this location because of capacity. Are they mismanaging the waste? Absolutely! The pictures are ridiculous.
The issue I have is why do you seem to care now?? Isn’t the orange shitler going to make all these problems disappear? Why does he appear to give a damn about anything regarding the environment? He certainly isn’t going to tell EVERGY to stop what they’re doing.
My only real question is why hasn’t MDNR been doing anything about this and addressing the issues?

Says the man that wants zero regulations for businesses and Farmers. Why do you think we got those regulations to begin with?

You’ve known for over a year and didn’t say anything? That’s pretty disturbing, Mark.

Another example of how unfit Alford is to hold office. He literally tells everyone he has known for a year and has done nothing, but now, he will come in and save the day.

How were they even given the permission to dump ash onto open ground, next to a body of water that dumps into our lake and river system? Heads should roll for this, everyone who was a part of this should be held accountable, from Evergy to any Politicians involved.

A lawsuit against Evergy was filed last week for those interested by Mr Steward.
Here are the details
What’s at the heart of the suit is a byproduct of coal-fired power plants called fly ash.
The suit says the Montrose plant would put their fly ash into unlined and uncovered ponds until 2020, when it continues to allege that they excavated more than 75,000 cubic yards of fly ash from the ponds and left it on the ground and in landfills at the site.
Court documents say that Evergy and the other defendants, “disturbed and failed to adequately manage fly ash at the Evergy Site, causing fly ash to migrate through air, soil and water to properties.”

Poisoning of the soil and water. This is what I have witnessed for 60 years. Not to mention intentional poisoning of humans with first hand experience. 3 generations of being poisoned, personally and intentionally. Irresponsible poor stewardship of the earth by its inhabitants has been obvious my entire existence. Humans inabilities are self destructive and exponentially damaging to the environment. Abominations galore.

The chemical contamination is in people’s well water. How are you going to propose they clean this up? How are you going to propose they provide us with clean water? I’m not taking cases of nestle as an acceptable answer.

Action, meet consequences.
