Rep. Ashley Aune: ….the challenge this year has truly been the republicans’ insistence on overturning the will of the voters at every single turn. Whether it’s abortion rights, or workers’ rights, uh, you know when I came in it was Medicaid expansion they were trying to undo. And every single session that I’ve been down there it’s been something else. Uh, one other way, uh, to thwart the voters to say, ‘I know better than you.’ Um, and this year it has been the most egregious we’ve ever seen.

On top of that, as you heard, we are being threatened with this [Congressional] redistricting plan. Uh, and I have, every indication that I’ve seen is that it’s happening. Uh, and, of course, as super, as a super-minority we have very few levers to challenge that….

….We can not show up for work as Democrats and the republicans can do their work, no problem. In fact, they’d probably prefer it that way….

Rep. Ashley Aune: ….In order the break the [republican] super-majority we need to flip two seats in the Senate and three seats in the House. That is absolutely doable in 2026 you guys. We have, not only do we have incredible candidates lining up to run in some of the most important races across the state, but we have people Like Keri Ingle, who’s digging in to Eastern Jackson County [applause] and making sure that that senate district, it doesn’t stay red. We have people like Betsy Fogle down in Springfield who are running to put that put that senate seat as well….

….While Missourians continue to elect republicans, they’re also voting for progressive priorities like Medicaid expansion, legalizing marijuana, making sure that we put abortion rights in our Constitution, and improving workers’ rights across the state. Missourians believe in progressive values. We need to make them believe in progressive candidates….

Today, in response to Gov. Mike Kehoe’s (r) executive order activating the Missouri National Guard:

Missouri House Democratic Caucus
[June 12, 2025]

‘BLATANT ATTEMPT TO INTIMIDATE’ | House Minority Leader Ashley Aune released a statement on behalf of the Missouri House Democratic Caucus in response to the completely unwarranted state of emergency declaration by Gov. Mike Kehoe.

LET’S BE CLEAR: This is nothing more than an attempt to intimidate and suppress peaceful protest of the federal administration that’s descending into authoritarianism at an alarming pace.

These protests are in response to the very obvious and unabashed transfer of wealth and power to the nation’s billionaire class at the expense of working Americans, regardless of their political affiliation.

“Governor Kehoe should staunchly defend the rights of Missourians, not mimic the authoritarianism of the president,” Aune said.

‘Governor Kehoe’s preemptive declaration of a state of emergency as Missourians prepare to protest an increasingly authoritarian presidential administration is a blatant attempt to intimidate and suppress First Amendment rights.

The protests planned this weekend across Missouri and throughout the nation were sparked by the president’s unwarranted and heavy-handed military responseto opposition to his policies. By doing the same, the governor will only heighten tensions and increase the possibility of conflict.

Governor Kehoe should staunchly defend the rights of Missourians, not mmic the authoritarianism of the president.’

Priorities.

In the republican controlled Missouri House of Representatives:

RULES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES [pdf]
102nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Adopted January 11, 2023

[….]

Dress Code

Rule 98. At all times when the House is seated, proper attire for gentlemen shall be business attire, including coat, tie, dress trousers, and dress shoes or boots. Proper attire for women shall be business attire, including jackets worn with dresses, skirts, or slacks, and dress shoes or boots. For the purposes of this rule, “jacket” shall include blazers, cardigans, and knit blazers. This rule shall apply to all members and staff on the floor of the House and lower gallery.

Subtle.

I’ll be honest, I never thought my first national interview would be about what I can and cannot wear as a female lawmaker…

Missouri lawmaker pushes back on strict dress code for women in state house

Missouri lawmakers are tightening the dress code for women lawmakers, including specific requirements on how to cover their arms. [….]

Rep. Peter Merideth @PeterforMO
Debating the house rules on the floor today, and the first amendment offered by a Republican is about making stricter the rules of what women have to wear in here.

Rep. Peter Merideth @PeterforMO
Yep, the caucus that lost their minds over the suggestion that they should wear masks during a pandemic to respect the safety of others is now spending its time focusing on the fine details of what women have to wear (specifically how to cover their arms) to show respect here.

Well done.

I’m Ashley Aune and I’m running for state representative in Missouri’s 14th house district. If we haven’t met yet it may be because campaigning looks a little different these days. But it’s more important than ever to elect someone who will do whatever it takes to represent you. As a business owner and lifelong Kansas Cityian I’ll bring a unique perspective to the Missouri legislature, one that focuses on creating and nurturing opportunities for economic success, both for our families and our business community.

As your state rep I want to be a voice for progress in the Northland. You can trust me to fight for the best educational opportunities for all our children, quality affordable health care access to keep our families and workforce strong, a fair and transparent government that works for everyone, protections for the workers and union members who move our economy forward, and a balanced approach to ensuring the safety of our families in the face of crime, gun violence, and inequality.

Well done.
