On Wednesday evening approximately 100 supporters crowded into the building for the opening of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign office in Kansas City. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, Kansas City Mayor Sly James, and Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker addressed the crowd. A number of candidates and office holders, statewide and local, also attended.

Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D) ….Only God can speak things into existence [voice: “Amen.”], the rest of us have to work them into existence…. Here’s what I know, Hillary Clinton knows more about the operation of the Federal government than all of the other candidates combined….There is a reason that many of the candidates are not giving answers to the questions, there is a reason….There’s a reason that people don’t give answers, and there’s a reason that when you listen to the debate you understand very clearly that there is a fine line that separates Hillary Rodham Clinton and everybody else. In depth answers to questions. [applause] ….Hillary Clinton does not promise more than she can deliver. But when she wins, she’ll deliver more than she promises. [applause]….

We have people that can’t get insurance. We have a society where it is a right to own a gun and a privilege to have insurance…. We have kids that need early childhood education. We have infrastructure that needs t be rebuilt…. We need serious people to deal with these problems…. If we really care about this election, if we care about this country, and if we care who sits in the White House, if we care about our children, then we will work our tails off to make sure that Hillary Clinton’s elected….

Again, unlike republican candidates the probability of a down ticket statewide Democratic Party candidate in Missouri receiving a single $1,000,000.00 contribution from a billionaire approaches zero.

4th Congressional District, 52nd Legislative District, Gordon Christensen, Johnson County, Judy Baker, Kyle Garner, missouri, state treasurer, Warrenburg

The 2016 general election is eleven months away. The primary, for candidates who draw an opponent, is eight months away. Candidates are already out engaging with voters – before you complain about the length of our campaign season(s) consider this: a candidate can always raise more money, the can always print more literature and signs, what they can’t get is more time. One on one contact with voters is the most effective thing a candidate can do to get elected. There are a lot of voters out there – and that personal contact takes a lot of time.

Judy Baker (D), Democratic Party candidate for State Treasurer, in Warrensburg - December 13, 2015.

Judy Baker (D), a Democratic Party candidate for State Treasurer, in Warrensburg – December 13, 2015.

In almost every county across the state politically active people gather for one reason or another, sometimes on a regular basis. These gatherings are a convenient concentration of voters for candidates seeking that direct voter contact.

Gordon Christensen (D), a Democratic Party candidate in the 4th Congressional District, in Warrensburg - December 13, 2015.

Gordon Christensen (D), a Democratic Party candidate in the 4th Congressional District, in Warrensburg – December 13, 2015.

One Sunday evening in Warrensburg there was one such gathering of engaged Democratic Party voters. It was an opportunity for several candidates to talk one on one with people who actually bother to vote. Judy Baker, a candidate for State Treasurer; Gordon Christensen, a candidate in the 4th Congressional District; and Kyle Garner, a candidate in the 52nd Legislative District utilized the occasion for that one on one engagement.

Kyle Garner (D), the Democratic Party candidate in the 52nd Legislative District.

There may or may not be an opportunity for a candidate to address the crowd. The smart candidate circulates and engages every person present. When you witness that actual engagement from a candidate you know that individual understands the process of retail politics. And in case you’re wondering – it’s very effective. For candidates it’s probably the one part of the process of running for office that they enjoy the most.

Statewide Coalition Backs Baker to Make Change for MO

Community Leaders Endorse Former Columbia State Representative for Missouri Treasurer

COLUMBIA – Citing statewide support, State Representative Judy Baker today formally launched her campaign for State Treasurer. Under the banner “Make Change”, Baker will seek to make Missouri’s money work for everybody, not just a few.

“We need to make change in Missouri. We need to invest Missouri’s money in Missouri’s people. For too long families have struggled to get ahead because of lack of access to resources to buy homes, start businesses, or secure a postsecondary education. Now more than ever we need leaders who will make every tax dollar go further and do more,” Baker said on her announcement.

“By focusing on transparency and economic development, we will make Missouri taxpayers a priority again. An annual report card will make state government accountable to taxpayers while leveraging innovative financial incentives will encourage economic development in our state’s lagging economy. It’s time for Missouri taxpayers to get ahead and we can do it while keeping our tax dollars safe and putting them to work for Missouri’s middle-class families,” Baker concluded.

Baker enters the race with a broad base of support having earned the endorsement of community leaders from every corner of Missouri. Pointing to her longtime commitment to Missouri taxpayers, supporters applaud Baker’s entrance into the race and her campaign to make change.

“I am proud to join leaders from across Missouri in supporting Judy Baker for Missouri Treasurer. She has put Missouri citizens first her entire career and her commitment to transparency and economic development is sorely needed in state government. Treasurer Clint Zweifel has done a good job of protecting public funds and Judy is the right person to continue this commitment to integrity. Judy’s common-sense approach to financial management will not only safeguard but grow taxpayer dollars, putting them to work for Missouri families,” said St Louis Treasurer Tishaura Jones.

Former Missouri State Senator Wes Shoemyer from Monroe said, “As long as I have known Judy, her commitment to creating opportunity in rural areas is a core value. She’ll make a profoundly strong advocate for all Missouri’s people as State Treasurer.”

2012, Judy Baker, Lieutenant Governor, missouri

Judy Baker’s (D) campaign for lieutenant governor released a video:

Judy Baker (D): Missouri is a great state with great people and a bright future. But we’ve gotta get serious about the real challenges that face our state.

This means the time for petty political games is over. We have to find better ways to create jobs and strengthen our schools, help seniors get the services they need to stay healthier and independent longer, and to help our veterans as they transition back to our communities as we welcome them home.

From my earliest childhood to my days in seminary to when I was serving you in Jefferson City I have always seen public service as a mission, a chance to serve a higher call. I learned this from my parents. My dad was a career Navy doctor and my mother a public school teacher.

So if I get the chance to be your lieutenant governor I will stay focused on the things that really matter, the things that will make a difference, by taking on the real challenges that face Missouri families.
