19th Senate District, attack, Kurt Schaefer, mail, Mary Still, missouri

Standard republican operating procedure.

Representative Mary Still (D), the Democratic Party candidate in the 19th Senate District, on the floor of the Missouri House, March 21, 2012.

In April 9, 2011, in the Washington Monthly:

…On the Senate floor yesterday, Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), eager to prove that the budget debate wasn’t just about Planned Parenthood, spent some time on the Senate floor going after Planned Parenthood.

“Everybody goes to clinics, to doctors, to hospitals, so on,” Kyl said. “Some people go to Planned Parenthood. But you don’t have to go to Planned Parenthood to get your cholesterol or your blood pressure checked. If you want an abortion, you go to Planned Parenthood, and that’s well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does.”

That’s not even close to being accurate. Just 3% of the organization’s work is related to terminating pregnancies, while “well over 90% of Planned Parenthood does” relates to preventative health care services….

….As political spin goes, this is a true gem. Kyl said abortion is “well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does” — a blatant lie — and when called on it, his defense is that his remarks on the Senate floor were “not intended to be a factual statement.” What an amazing way to justify all bogus claims — just make stuff up, and if anyone notices that you’re not telling the truth, simply explain that your nonsense was “not intended to be a factual statement….”

[emphasis added]

Today, in the 19th Senate District race, a story about a republican attack piece against Mary Still (D):

GOP ad accusing Still of missing votes takes liberties with dates

By Rudi Keller

Saturday, October 27, 2012

A Republican direct mail piece attacking Rep. Mary Still for missing votes includes a mention of 100 votes taken while she was hospitalized and cites dates when Still was either on hand or the House was on vacation….

….The fact that the dates used are not dates when Still actually missed votes do not undermine the message of the circular, said Jonathon Prouty, spokesman for the Missouri GOP. “If the statements that are made are not actual statements but made to highlight a particular part of the failed record, then the dates are insignificant,” he said…..

We live in a post fact, post truth, post sane America. The stoopid, it burns.

It is an awesome thing to behold, attack mail directed by republicans at republicans. This, paid for by Missourians for Conservative Values PAC:

The chocolates are a thoughtful touch.

Hotel bills, check. Penthouse Pet, check. What, no burning car? Yeah, like that would have been too much of a cheap shot.

Today at the Missouri Ethics Commission there was an interesting little tidbit in one of the reports:

Yeah, that Missouri HRCC.

….The message says it’s paid for by the House Republican Campaign Committee, Inc. That is not the Missouri Republican Party. I called the campaign committee and left messages, and didn’t hear anything back. KHQA did get a statement from the Missouri Republican Party. It says it did not authorize, approve, or pay for this campaign activity….

Really?

Yeah, that $100,000.00 went the other way on the same day. As if they don’t know each other? With that kind of money moving around they all must be good friends, eh?

121st Legislative District, attack, Courtney Cole, Denny Hoskins, mail piece, missouri

Previously: “Noun, Verb, CPA”: Hoskins (r) mail attack on Cole (D) in the 121st Legislative District race

Look who’s paying for all those really slick attack mail pieces. Do you think the incumbent is having trouble raising grassroots cash so he can do his own mail? Or is this all just a charade with a touch of plausible deniability thrown in? Just asking.

Today there was another attack mail piece paid for by the Missouri republican party on behalf of Denny Hoskins (r-noun, verb, CPA) directed at Courtney Cole (D) in the 121st legislative District race.

Again, it appears that a republican incumbent with no record of achievement and a tax payment problem has to be propped up by their party apparatus with irrelevant wedge issue attack pieces.

I wonder, did the Missouri republican party have to pay a royalty for using the Obama campaign logo?

At times republicans do have problems with the asking permission thing.

The desperation on the inside of the mailing:

We understand that the photos the republicans copped for this mailing probably came from events years back when Courtney Cole was honored by a professional business organization. Ironic, eh?

The interior of the attack piece.

“…Cole is a card-carrying member of a liberal special interest group…”

Uh, Courtney Cole (D) is a high school teacher. The footnote refers to the Missouri National Education Association (MNEA), a group which advocates for our children and our public schools.

Uh, didn’t that “card carrying” bullshit go out with the anti-fluoridation whack jobs from the fifties? Apparently not. Same type of right wing extremists, different wedge issues.

“…extreme agenda of government-run health care, amnesty for illegal aliens, and same sex marriage…”

Government run health care? You mean like Medicare and the Veterans Administration. Is Denny Hoskins advocating getting rid of Medicare and health care for our veterans? Just asking.

Amnesty for illegal aliens? You mean like the 2008 republican presidential candidate? We have to suspect that Denny Hoskins (r) didn’t vote for Obama because of this mailing, so he had to have supported McCain, right? So much for consistency from republicans.

The gays are here, the gays are here, run for the hills…

When you can’t talk about supporting our public schools, economic development and creating jobs all you can do beat the distraction drum with the usually republican wedge issues. Typical.

121st Legislative District, attack, Courtney Cole, Denny Hoskins, mail piece, missouri

Denny Hoskins (r-noun, verb, CPA) is the beneficiary of a mail piece attacking Courtney Cole (D) – and just like two years ago it’s paid for by the Missouri republican party, of course:

The address side of the folded mail piece.

Lowering taxes? How? By not paying them?

The outside back of the folded mail piece.

You can tell a lot about a person based on what’s in their wallet.

Uh, like the $20,317.89 that should have gone toward paying their property taxes.

Sometimes the jokes just write themselves.

The attack part on the inside of the mail piece:

Denny Hoskins (r) has experience in balancing budgets? It ain’t so.

Denny Hoskins (r) is taking on the stimulus? Really? Anyone notice him making noise over those highway projects on U.S. 50?

Paid for by special interests? You mean like a $5000.00 check from a PAC for Denny Hoskins’ campaign?

And then there’s this disingenuous little gem:

“…Courtney Cole proudly states she is a card-carrying member of a liberal special interest group…”

As the footnote states, she’s a member of the Missouri National Education Association (MNEA). Uh, Courtney Cole is a teacher who works very hard to educate our children. And these republican morons call the MNEA a “liberal special interest group”? That shows the worldview of the Missouri republican party – and they think everyone else is stoopid.

Apparently, Denny Hoskins (r) thinks he’s running against Obama. He’s two years too early.

Nice photo of Courtney Cole. I wonder where they got it? Denny Hoskins (r) has said he wouldn’t know about that.

…With this tracker stuff out in front of the public does that mean we won’t be seeing any darkly lit shaky videos or grainy photographs along with shock headlines and disturbing music in cable television commercials in the 121st District before the November election? Just asking.

It looks like we just got the answer to that question.
