Via Balloon Juice:

…the Obama campaign is already on this one like barnacles on Romney’s yacht…

Win!

A video from the Obama/Biden 2012 campaign:

Barack Obama: I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message.

Narrator: You work hard, stretch every penny, but chances are you pay a higher tax rate than him. Mitt Romney made twenty million dollars in two thousand ten but paid only fourteen percent in taxes, probably less than you.

Now he has a plan that would give millionaires another tax break and raises taxes on middle class families by up to two thousand dollars a year. Mitt Romney’s middle class tax increase, he pays less, you pay more.

Uh, yep.

A new video from Obama/Biden 2012, running in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia:

President Obama: I’m Barack Obama and I approve this message.

[Approved by Barack Obama.  Paid for by Obama for America]

Mitt Romney (r): O beautiful, for spacious skies…

[The Villages, FL 1/30/12]

Mitt Romney (r): For amber waves of grain. For purple mountains’ majesty…

[In business, Mitt Romney’s firms shipped jobs to Mexico.

Los Angeles Times, 6/2/00]

Mitt Romney (r): Above the fruited plains…

[As Governor, Romney outsourced jobs to India.

Boston Globe, 5/1/12]

Mitt Romney (r): America…

[He had millions in a Swiss bank account.

ABC News, 1/26/12]

Mitt Romney (r): America, God shed His grace on thee…

[Tax havens like Bermuda. And the Cayman Islands.

Vanity Fair, August 2012

ABC News, 1/18/12]

Mitt Romney (r): And crown thy good with brotherhood…

[Mitt Romney’s Not The Solution

He’s The Problem.]

“…It didn’t work here so I’m not quite sure why he thinks it might work nationally…”

For republicans, that’s a feature, not a bug.

The Obama campaign has a new video on Mitt Romney’s (r) record in Massachusetts:

The transcript:

[2002]

[Mitt Romney ran for Governor of Massachusetts…

and he made a lost of promises.]

Mitt Romney (r): …We’re gonna have a stronger economy because I’m gonna be governor…

…I have experience in the private sector…

…I know how jobs are created and how jobs are lost…

…I’m gonna work tirelessly as governor, bring more good jobs to Massachusetts…

…I know how to solve a budget problem…

…I stand very clearly for lowering, uh, the taxes…

[Sound familiar?]

[Here’s Romney now.]…

…[2011]

…Jobs and the economy is what I know…

…I spent my life in the private sector…

…I know why jobs come and why they go…

…My number one job will be to see that America once again is number one in job creation…

[2012]

…I will finally get America on track to have a balanced budget…

..I will cut marginal taxes across the board…

[So what can we expect from a Romney presidency?]

…people want to know what I stand for, they can look at my record as governor…

John Barret: …Mitt Romney was not an effective leader in Massachusetts. And the proof is in the pudding…

Jay Kaufman: …I had worked only under Republican governors…

…and I worked really well with all of the others, but there was really not much working with Mitt Romney…

Rob Dolan: When Governor Romney became governor of Massachusetts many of the issues that our country faces were at our door step, high debt, the need for jobs, the need to support a working middle class. There were great opportunities and there was great hope that Governor Romney could deliver. He didn’t deliver…

[Jobs]

[2002]

Mitt Romney: …We need a job revolution, we need to have more jobs in Massachusetts, more good jobs. That’s the key to our future…

Karen Spilka: There was that promise, uh, and hope that Romney would deliver with jobs and grow the economy here in Massachusetts and that did not materialize.

Jack Yunits: …Massachusetts growth stopped, companies stopped coming, that new jobs were not being created….

Jeffrey Sanchez: …We knew that we were losing manufacturing jobs and he never found any solutions to try and figure out how do we keep them…

…By the time that Romney left office we were forty-seventh in the nation in terms of job growth…

Rob Dolan: During Mitt Romney’s tenure as governor wages dropped five percent his first two years which really had a very negative effect throughout Massachusetts…

[Taxes & Fees]

[2002]

Mitt Romney: …I will fight to keep our tax rate, not going up, but to keep it where it is and then bring it down by the end of my first term…

Jay Kaufman: What we heard from Mitt Romney during the campaign was the no new taxes pledge…

…And he found very quickly once he was in office that he couldn’t deliver on any services without having sufficient resources, so he raised our taxes by raising our fees…

Rob Dolan: …But a rose by any other name is absolutely still a rose. Fees are an increase out of the pockets of every Massachusetts resident. That’s a tax. Let’s call it what it is…

Carl Sciortino: …Struggling working families, they were paying more under his administration. They’re paying at the Department of Motor vehicles, they’re paying for marriage fess and burial fees…

John Barret: …Every fee that he put in place or increased impacted mainly the average middle income person…

Carl Sciortino: …The only place that I remember Mitt Romney actually cutting taxes was for the two hundred and seventy-eight wealthiest families in our state…

[Debt]

[2002]

Mitt Romney: …I’ve indicated what my position is on how to balance the budget and it’s by cutting out waste and inefficiency and taking advantage of great efficiencies that I think we can capture…

Jay Kaufman: …under the Romney administration we accumulated the greatest debt build up of any state in the country, that’s after a campaign promise to do exactly the opposite…

Carl Sciortino: …He used debt to pay for annual operations costs. That’s like paying your, your rent on your credit card. And that was Mitt Romney’s way of paying for the way we maintained our highways, the way we cleaned our streets. It was a really flawed way of addressing basic operations, was to go deeper and deeper into debt…

Rob Dolan:…Governor Romney’s plan for America is the same plan that he sold to the people of Massachusetts in two thousand two, less government, less debt, better business, and less taxes. The result was the opposite, more fees, less business, more debt, bigger government here in Boston.

John Barret:…He just did not get the job done. He just didn’t walk the talk…

Carl Sciortino:…There are time when I watch Mitt Romney saying the exact same things now that he said here in Massachusetts in two thousand and two, in a robotic way that is completely hollow. It didn’t work here so I’m not quite sure why he thinks it might work nationally…

John Barret:…Romney economics doesn’t work. It didn’t work in Massachusetts and it’s not gonna work in Washington…

2012, Obama, Romney

From the Obama campaign:

[As republicans settle on a nominee…

…let’s take a look at some of the unforgettable moments from this unforgettable primary.]

Mitt Romney (r): Corporations are people, my friend.

….I like being able to fire people that provide services to me….

….I was a severely conservative Republican governor….

[Mitt Romney

Memories To Last A Lifetime

Remember what he said about women’s health?

Mitt Romney (r): Do I believe the Supreme Court should overturn Roe v Wade? Yes…..

…..Planned Parenthood, we’re going to get rid of that….

….Of course I support the Blunt Amendment….

Greta Van Susteren: The amendment would have let insurers and employers out of providing birth control coverage if they had moral objections.

Mike Huckabee (r): Would you have supported the constitutional amendment that would have established the definition of life at conception?

Mitt Romney (r): Absolutely….

[Remember what he said about housing?]

Mitt Romney (r): as to what to do about the housing industry specifically, don’t try and stop the foreclosure process. Let it run its course and hit the bottom….

[Who could forget “Let Detroit go bankrupt”?]

Mitt Romney (r): Yeah, that, that’s exactly what I said. Let Detroit go bankrupt.

[Remember when he called bringing our troops home before Christmas “tragic”?]

Mitt Romney (r): It is my view that the withdrawal of all of our troops from Iraq is unfortunate. It’s more than unfortunate, I think it’s tragic….

[How about when he said he’d “kill” Obamacare?]

Mitt Romney (r): If I’m president I will repeal Obamacare and I’ll kill it dead on its first day….

[And his plan for immigrants?]

Mitt Romney (r): The question is, if I were elected and Congress were to pass the Dream Act would I veto it? And the answer is, yes.

[Remember when Paul Ryan said Romney would enact his economic plan?]

Reporter:….If Mitt Romney became President of the United States you’re convinced he would follow through [crosstalk]…

Rep. Paul Ryan (r): Yes.

Reporter: …with a lot of the reductions you make.

Rep. Paul Ryan (r): Yes.

[The Ryan plan ends Medicare as we know it – remember?]

Mitt Romney (r):….I applaud it. It’s an excellent piece of work.

….I was a severely conservative Republican governor….

[Mitt Romney

A severely conservative nominee

Remember that.]

Romney robocalls

robocalls, Romney

I have two land lines (don’t ask).

One is rather old and the other I have had for over twenty years.

Tonight, I have gotten Romney robocalls on both.  The message is the same: Santorum has flipped on supporting Planned Parenthood.

My spouse tells me we had a call for Paul and a call for Santorum on the old land line.

I wonder how much a robocall costs.  And, Romney appears to be carpet bombing at least my part of the state.

Are you getting any calls?

2012, missouri, Obama, PPP, president, Public Policy Polling, Romney

Public Policy Polling [pdf] released additional results from from their survey of 582 Missouri voters interviewed between January 27th and 29th. The margin of error for the poll is 4.1%.

Interesting results:

Q8 If the candidates for President this year were Democrat Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney, who would you vote for?

Barack Obama – 45%

Mitt Romney – 45%

Undecided – 9%

Why would that be?

Q4 Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Mitt Romney?

Favorable – 30%

Unfavorable – 54%

Not sure – 15%

[emphasis added]

Apparently Missouri has a significant number of perceptive poor people.

The crosstabs also enlighten us about the republican base:

Romney Favorability

Somewhat conservative

Favorable – 46%

Unfavorable – 35%

Not sure – 19%

Very conservative

Favorable – 36%

Unfavorable – 48%

Not sure – 16%

[emphasis added]

That would explain a lot.

Previously: PPP: Claire McCaskill, not particularly liked (February 1, 2012)

Pity, all they have is the harraser, the grifter, the flip flopper, the certifiably insane…

OK, so there is not much to do tonight and my brother has picture-in-picture to follow the Cub game.

Romney just said that states should take care of disasters like Joplin.

That response would be a great commercial to run if he gets the nomination.

When in doubt, endorse the multi-millionaire

The Boston Globe

Missouri governor to join Lexington investment firm

December 30, 2008 07:55 PM

Outgoing Missouri Governor Matt Blunt has been hired by a Lexington private equity firm headed by a son of a former Massachusetts governor, Mitt Romney.

Blunt, an early supporter of Romney’s failed Republican presidential bid, will join Solamere Capital as a senior adviser responsible for helping to evaluate new investment areas, the company said today…

…The announcement of Blunt’s hiring noted his work on Missouri’s budget…

[emphasis added]

I suppose he’ll kick the widows and orphans off of their health insurance program and really cut into their employee education program. He should probably check into the company’s e-mail policies before getting on board, though.

When did this company start up?:

The New York Times

Romney Son Moves Into Private Equity

June 17, 2008, 9:43 am

Tagg Romney, a son of former Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney, is helping to start up Solamere Capital, a Boston-based private equity firm…

…Mr. Romney’s father, of course, made his fortunes as a co-founder of Bain Capital, which has become one of the largest private equity firms around.

Let’s take a look at the Blunt family connections to Mitt Romney’s failed presidential campaign:

…Also on Thursday, Romney was formally endorsed by Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, who has been actively helping Romney raise money.
