You’ve got to wonder what they all think about income taxes, you know, an equitable revenue stream intended to support the infrastructure of civilization that isn’t supposed to be regressive. Just asking.

Lafayette County, Republican Party

(soon-to-be infamous image is from Fired Up! Missouri, and the billboard is located near Grain Valley Lafayette County, Missouri)

Don’t waste your time waiting for Roy Blunt, Chris Roepe (MOGOP Political Director and LafCo native) or Bill Stouffer to condemn this lunacy. It won’t happen. This is their base.

2010 Elections, Republican Party, Roy Blunt

Winston Churchill once said “If you’re going through hell, keep going”. An element of the Republican base and Republican party appear to have accept the advice of “If you’re going through hell, go crazy.”

Public Policy Polling’s latest poll found this information:

The poll asked this question: “Do you think that Barack Obama legitimately won the Presidential election last year, or do you think that ACORN stole it for him?” The overall top-line is legitimately won 62%, ACORN stole it 26%.

Among Republicans, however, only 27% say Obama actually won the race, with 52% — an outright majority — saying that ACORN stole it, and 21% are undecided. Among McCain voters, the breakdown is 31%-49%-20%. By comparison, independents weigh in at 72%-18%-10%, and Democrats are 86%-9%-4%.

For those of you curious about how many votes would need to be stolen to pull off this delusion? Between 1.1 and 9.5 million votes. 1.1M is the margin of Obama’s victory in 7 states. 9.5M is his margin of victory overall. Obama won 69M votes, the most ever.

The main effect of the Scozzafava purge wasn’t to drive the Republican Party to the right, but to silence anybody who opposed the paranoid wing of the party. The previous split between “silly” and “sensible” in Republican is virtually gone, replaced by “cowards” and “kooks”. Anybody speaking out against the Sarah Palin Society in the Republican Party is going to get undermined and defeated. Dede Scozzafava was the last, Arlen Specter was on their list, and Charlie Crist’s fall from popular governor to purge victim appears to be certain.

We know that Roy Blunt probably doesn’t believe in a mass ACORN conspiracy to deny John McCain his victory. Although he has already waffled on Obama being a US Citizen. He just doesn’t want to anger his base any further. He knows that if he shows the courage to speak out against nutjobbery, all he will get is nothing.

November 4th, 2008 was the beginning of end times for civility and cooperation in the Republican Party. Now the Republican party appears to be relying on the traits of craziness and cowardice. There’s no going back, It’s terminal now.

Your "mainstream" Missouri republican party in action: birthers!

Birthers, missouri, Republican Party

There are people who fervently believe that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States, despite all evidence and logic to the contrary, and hence, that he is not actually qualified to hold that office.

Is this a “mainstream” republican party issue in Missouri? Apparently so:

From the Platte County, Missouri republican Central Committee web site.

Dr. Orly Taitz

Dr. Orly Taitz, lead attorney on the Obama Birth Certificate issue, will be coming to Missouri to speak with Senators, Representatives, and Citizens about getting into action regarding the Obama Birth Certificate dilemma.

Obama has spent millions keeping his birth certificate a secret, but the issue WILL NOT go away. There will be two meetings on July 1st, lasting 1-2 hours each. Please join Dr. Taitz and bring a friend!

The disclosure statement from the Platte County, Missouri republican Central Committee web site.

There are two scheduled events in Missouri tomorrow. One in St. Louis at 11:00 a.m. and one in Jefferson City at the Capitol Plaza at 4:00 p.m. It seems that bloggers aren’t welcome, even if we are somebody’s friend.

Our good friends at Fired Up were discouraged from attending:

I am familiar with your SMEAR Journalism (sic). You are not welcome at either events (sic). If you do show up, we will be forced to call security.

Man, how are we gonna get to see who attends this? I guess we’ll have to ask republican members of the Missouri General Assembly one by one if they attended and if they subscribe to the birther premise. That could be fun. Any guesses?

Chris Koster, Democratic Party, Michael Gibbons, Republican Party

Watching TV the other night, I saw my first ad for a downballot race, for Michael Gibbons for Attorney General. It was a pretty unremarkable ad (never good news for an advertiser) but one thing stood out precisely because of its absence – Gibbons didn’t mention his party identification. I went to Mike’s website this morning to see if I could watch the ad again and find that I was mistaken, and sure enough, there is no mention of the Republican Party. Neither is there much mention of the Republican Party on his website. In fact, I had to resort to a Google search to find any, and they were all in the “Newsroom” section.

Why not? Chris Koster announces at the very top of the website that he’s a Democrat – why won’t Gibbons? The Republican Party holds the legislature and the Governor’s Mansion, and their own candidates won’t even say what party they belong to?
