4th Congressional District, former newsreader, Mark Alford, missouri, right wingnut, sycophant, that ridiculous hat, Trump sycophant
This afternoon:
Congressman Mark Alford
[February 20, 2026]My statement on the Supreme Court Ruling on President Trump’s tarriffs:
“I wholeheartedly support President Trump’s efforts to advance a trade strategy that stops foreign countries from taking advantage of American workers, while supporting Missouri jobs, businesses, and consumers.
This SCOTUS decision does not eliminate all avenues for the President to pursue this strategy, and I look forward to working constructively with the Administration and my colleagues in Congress to identify other paths to further our shared goals.”
You mean “identify other paths” to raise taxes on the working class? What an asshole.
Some of the responses:
Sure buddy. Ruling by executive Fiat when you hold unified government control in a so-called historic voter mandate, is not weird at all. You guys haven’t totally invalidated your credibility moving forward. I’m sure the MAGA be fine for the next…what, 6 or 7 months?
This is why you should do things legally. IAW the laws not try and make everything an emergency.
You have congress let them do their job.
Congressman Mark Alford, here’s a serious question. Are your “colleagues in Congress” both parties or just those legislators who embrace MAGA?
“I fully support president Trump taxing the American people with no checks.” – Mark
Based on the text in this statement, here are the primary logical fallacies and rhetorical strategies being used:
* Begging the Question (Assuming the Conclusion): The statement assumes as fact that the specific trade strategy (the tariffs) actually does “stop foreign countries from taking advantage” and does “support Missouri jobs, businesses, and consumers.” It treats the intended goals of the policy as its guaranteed outcomes, without providing evidence that the tariffs actually achieve these positive results.
* Appeal to Emotion / Appeal to Patriotism: The language relies heavily on emotionally charged, patriotic framing. Phrases like “taking advantage of American workers” and “supporting Missouri jobs” are designed to evoke a strong protective and patriotic response, encouraging the reader to support the stance based on feeling rather than a detailed economic argument.
* Glittering Generalities: This statement uses universally appealing but vague concepts. Everyone generally wants to support local jobs and stop workers from being taken advantage of, making it hard to disagree with the sentiment, even if the specific underlying policy (which was just ruled on by the Supreme Court) is controversial or legally flawed.
* Evasion (Pivoting): While responding to a Supreme Court ruling (which presumably struck down or limited the tariffs), the statement completely avoids addressing the actual legal or constitutional reasons for the SCOTUS decision. Instead of engaging with the facts of the ruling, it immediately pivots to “identifying other paths.” Rhetorically, this downplays a potential defeat by reframing it merely as a temporary obstacle.
In essence, this is a classic political spin statement: it glosses over the specifics of a legal setback by doubling down on the emotionally appealing goals of the original policy.
Heh. I just wrote the same thing, only with fewer words: “What an asshole.”
Congressman Mark Alford AKA Anchorman. I would like an answer to this question please: Who pays for the tariffs that Trump has implemented? Please tell me? Explain who pay’s tarrifs like your explaining it to a middle schooler. I’d like to see your answer.
This is an open question to a sitting member of congress that I’d like to hear you answer in a public forum. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Why do they still not understand that the price of the tariffs is paid by the companies in our country and passed on to the consumers IN OUR COUNTRY!!!! Sheesh! And as I said before, you Mr. Alford, are a fool!
Congressman Mark Alford The constitution is clear: it’s YOUR JOB to levy taxes, not the President’s job.
By supporting his illegal maneuver, you are violating your oath.
Do better. Also, make the rich pay their fair share before levying taxes on lower and middle class folks. We will not stand for another round of taxes on imports.
Our trade deficit is higher than ever, our currency is plummeting, and our debt is skyrocketing. You call that a good thing?
Get bent.
Tariffs are taxes on American taxpayers.
Oh, here’s one. Maybe Congress could set tariffs…. like the Framer’s intended in the Constitution. If Congress would start doing its job we wouldn’t have to rely on the Supreme Court to check the Executive Branch all the time. After paying thousands to cover Donald Trump’s illegal tariffs and not being rich enough to benefit from his tax cuts (or among the suckers he’s trying to buy off by exempting a fraction of their income–while driving up the costs of the consumer goods they purchase)… I’d appreciate a Congressman who represented my interests instead of Donald Trump’s.
The President’s response was an across the board tax increase of 10% on hard working Americans importing or consuming imported goods.
Do you support this tax increase?
When do we get our $1000 back?
Tariffs = Higher Costs for the Average American and that is a Fact, it’s always been a Fact, you can’t spin this any other way .
When you don’t have a label identifying you as a doormat.
They were illegal from the start. You should know that being a member of congress 🤡
Congressman Mark Alford the SCOTUS decision is about law and the constitution, something you don’t seem to understand or care about.
How do you still have a job?
Are you really still asking us to believe that tariffs are not a tax on the American people, and that other countries are the ones paying the tariffs, not us?????
Trump: “I can do anything I want to do to them … I’m allowed to destroy the country.”
Alford springs to his feet in applause and shouts please sir may I help.
Do you know how tariffs work, Mark? I truly don’t think you know how anything works.
Hey Missouri 04 constituents, your elected representative supports increase in taxes on you the consumer, you the small business owner. Vote him out in November.
So. In other words you fully support Trump even to the extent of harming your constituents with illegal “sales taxes”. Coffee is 50% higher than it was a year ago, with fewer ounces per canister. Our farmers have lost essential trading partners. Your “Liberation Day” cheering was a huge mistake, and after the SUPREME court made a correct and well considered ruling, you just want to double down. Read the ruling again, and think carefully before you agree to further taxation of your constituents. How about making a plan to give us all a refund of those illegal tarriffs instead. It’s time congressional GOP take on the responsibilties assigned to you in the Constitution. That is where your loyalty belongs, not to the bully wanna be king in the White House.
Of course Alford backs Trump. National sales tax. Regressive. And stupid. The congressman is not a genius. Glib, but glibness does not imply intelligence.
You’re such an ass kisser
So you’re ok with the middle class picking up the bill for billionaires? God, November can’t come soon enough. You gotta go.
You’re an idiot
Ah, yes. The America Alone strategy. You propaganda hacks obviously have not understood that other countries already are diverting away from doing trade with the US. Welcome to reality. You are making the country poorer.
Maybe you should take an economics class, so you learn how tariffs work! In fact maybe you should take a Constitution class so you learn how the government works too, since you are clueless on both fronts.
“I fully support an authoritarian president unilaterally imposing massive new taxes on American citizens with no real rhyme or reason and no approval from congress.”
– A batshit crazy statement no Republican would have ever made prior to the party being taken over by the MAGA crazies.
A non-staement. Typical. Find new ways to hurt your constituents and the economy.
Looks like you’re on the wrong side of history. See you at the midterms.
You are literally fighting for Trump over Missouri farmers.
