Breaking News: House passes “don’t ask, don’t tell” repeal
….This is “an imposition of somebody’s social agenda,” said Rep. Todd Akin, R-Missouri. It’s an “eclipse of reason, an eclipse of common sense….”
I wonder if they think teh gay is contagious? Or just bigotry?
There’s nothing new under the sun:
“….going concerns, accustomed through many years to the present system” of segregation, “no experiments should be tried…at this critical time….”
“…The Army is not a sociological laboratory; to be effective it must be organized and trained according to the principles which will insure success. Experiments to meet the wishes and demands…for the solution of their problems are a danger to efficiency, discipline and morale and would result in ultimate defeat…”
Social agenda? Where have we heard that before?
I don’t understand why supporters of repeal of DADT don’t turn the question around and ask homophobes why they have such a warped view of their fellow human beings? The only reason being gay is considered a bad thing is because some people don’t like gay people or approve of them. The gay soldier is just doing his/her job, going about his/her business, earning medals, racking up active duty time, etc. That person is doing NOTHING to harm anyone else. So why give a portion of the popultion the right to deny them what every other citizen has?
Try this for example: What if all the brown-eyed people in the U.S. decided that having blue eyes was a sign of the devil? What if those brown-eyed folks made it impossible for blue eyes to buy a house, get a job, adopt a child? The blue-eyed Americans aren’t doing anything to harm anyone, but they have the “mark of Cain,” which is totally in the mind of the brown-eyed people. Wouldn’t most of us think that was totally crazy?
Why do we allow homophobes, whose problem is really within their own minds and hearts, to dictate to the rest of us? It’s their problem, and they shouldn’t be allowed to make the rules for the rest of us.
The incidence of bullying and violence against gay and lesbian teenagers is rising, and part of the blame can be laid on those who vote against repealing DADT. If gays and lesbians are blacklisted in the military, that says to disturbed youngsters that there must be something wrong with gay people. So they can rationalize beating up kids at school and ruining the lives of youngsters who have done nothing to deserve such attacks. Our MO congressmen/women who voted against repeal should be ashamed.
