A friend of mine just showed me a correspondence from a teacher he knows in St. Louis County. Apparently parents are calling the school and requesting an “alternate activity” when Obama addresses the school children on Sept. 8.
What is this country coming to?
…doing piece work for their future corporate masters?
can people really be so dense. The people firing up the swift-boats are just too good at playing to the prejudices of the natives and today I hear that Obama will probably back down on the public option.
Those people are watching the American Dream disappear. All their lives they have done NOTHING but consume, bitch and belch. Now, after eight years or the neocons running this country into the ground, they start to take action, but not against the people that really screwed them, (the military industrial congressional mediatainment wall street bankster big pharma insurance complex) they single out the n______r.
Obama is far from perfect, but he is exponentially superior to 90% of politicians. I only pray that when he wins in 2012 he starts being the “Progressive” that I think he is deep inside.
As for the alternate activity, let’s pull the parents in and make them watch “A People’s History of the United States”.
That some people have to steal a feeling of empowerment through racist actions. President Bush used their faith, their fears and their patriotism to wreak havoc on this country and they couldn’t see it, but they can see President Obama, the nonwhite male, trying to control the minds of their children. That’s weak!
–Dana Loesch and her minions ought to take their own advice and stay away for good. This would serve their ends and keep everyone in our ‘socialist education system’ safe from their polluted thinking.
…that WillyK linked to here apparently home schools her children, so I guess she figures suggesting others to keep their children home on the day when the President is to speak is just one day closer to what she does all year ’round.
Three observations:
1. This is a continuation of the crazy emails that were going around during the McCain/Palin effort to marginalize Obama — you know, G#%& D%%^ America attributed to him cause Rev. Wright said it — or, he’s a Manchurian candidate Muslim… it’s the same crazyiness brought to a new fever because of health care reform debate.
2. When pundits like Beck and others roll out these crazy ideas, they’re just trying to make money by getting more market share, that goes for recent pushes, tea party, ‘buycott’, school boycott, etc.
3. It’s not a large sector of folks showing up at these events like the buycott, or calling their schools, but the media loves the conflict and sensationalism; and unfortunatly, these demented and bizzare actions take too much of our attention as well. The sorrows of news divisions now fallng under the for profit entertainment divisions.
“If it bleeds it leads” — sadly, it is the dignity and integrity of America that’s being injured.
I don’t think children should be used as a backdrop for political speeches or other purposes. And let’s face it – that’s what this is.
If I had a child in school during the last 8 years and George Bush was going to address them I probably would have pulled them out for the day to keep them from being used by a political party and a politician I abhor. If I had a kid in school right now I might even consider pulling them out for the day. It’s one thing if I choose to take my kids to a political speech, it’s another for a school district to determine that my kids should hear a political speech and be used for political purposes.
has a brief history of ways various presidents have “indoctrinated” school children, including some actual indoctrination from Bush and Cheney. Apparently Benen would agree with Willy that the real issue “seems to be that a non-issue is being used by folks with, as one blogger put it, an irrational fear and hatred of Obama in order to undercut his initiatives and create a narrative that inspires fear.”
Here’s Benen’s conclusion:
as he put it in TPM:
