On June 2nd Congressman Todd Akin (r – Missouri) blabbered incoherently about climate change on the House floor:

Via Think Progress.

Congressman John Fleming (r): …can somehow be blamed, uh.

Congressman Todd Akin (r): Just reclaiming my time.

Congressman Fleming: Yes. [crosstalk]

Congressman Akin: Somehow rather this whole thing strikes me i, i, if it weren’t so serious, as being a comedy, you know. I mean, we just went from winter to spring. In Missouri when we go from winter to spring, that’s a good climate change. I don’t want to stop that climate change, you know. So, and, and who in the world would want to put politicians in charge of the weather anyway? What a dumb idea. But anyhow let’s….

….Some of the models said that we’re gonna have surf at the front steps of the Capitol here pretty soon. I was really looking forward to that, you know. [laughter] Go ahead….

….Over the next eight years for this one point two trillion dollar tax increase. We’ve been joined by another doctor, a medical doctor but also a guy who graduated from high school science as well, from Georgia, my good friend, Congressman Gingrey….

…. People that have a technical or scientific background are a little rare in the chambers here. So to have [laughter] a, actually a guy who, who’s passed high school science is tremendously helpful. And, uh, Dr. Fleming is from Louisiana, I’m a….

No comedy. The tragedy is that Todd Akin is a member of Congress.

A comment from Think Progress:

My, my. Graduated from High School Science? Well, that surely puts all of those climatologists with PhD’s to shame, right?

I mean, studying the intricate patterns of chaotic world-wide systems is not brain science… I mean, it’s not rocket surgery… I mean… uh… it’s all Gore’s fault!!!

And another:

…It takes someone who has a vested interest, whether financial political or religious, to continue denying global climate change. It takes someone who’s delusional and willfully ignorant to believe them…

Many of the other comments are priceless.
