Devilstower, a Dailykos front-pager offers his take on what election day holds in store  for St. Louis.  While many of you may already have read this diary on Dailykos,  there might be enough who haven’t to justify posting a link and a teaser.

I haven’t lived in the St. Louis area long enough to vouch for all Devilstower’s claims about the makeup and character of the area, but it seems pretty much on the money based on what I do know.   The only statement that I would contend with is his assertion that “No city in America has suffered from as much classic “white flight” to suburbia as St. Louis.”  Clearly, he’s never been to Detroit.

A sample of the insights offered:

At the end of the night, there will be thousands of St. Louisans who didn’t get to vote, Republicans will scream that Democrats were trying to cheat “again,” and Kit Bond will deliver a red-faced speech that’s slightly less coherent than Sarah Palin on a bender. All of this is as predictable as sunrise.

So when you see the first results come in from Missouri, and they lean toward McCain, don’t give up hope. The Republicans may play the same defense they’ve played forever in the cities, but this year’s offensive line is coming at them with an energy they’re never going to expect.

Love the image of Kit Bond, red faced and “slighty less coherent than Sarah Paln on a bender.”  I just wish I’d thought of it first.
