We should all be really proud that we are represented in the US Senate by Kit Bond.
Last night, he was on the Newshour.
He was asked about whether waterboarding is torture.
GWEN IFILL: I just would like to — but do you think that waterboarding, as I described it, constitutes torture?
SEN. KIT BOND: There are different ways of doing it. It’s like swimming, freestyle, backstroke. The waterboarding could be used almost to define some of the techniques that our trainees are put through, but that’s beside the point. It’s not being used.
He never did indicate whether waterboarding is torture, but he did say, essentially, that Jack Bauer had the right to use it to save the world.
(OK, he didn’t say Jack Bauer, but he said it was justified if we needed information in a short period of time to prevent some catastrophe.)
