According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report released yesterday, Missouri lost 2,500 jobs last month and 11,100 jobs total since May. So why is there a headline in the St. Louis Business Journal that states “Missouri Employment on the Rise”? The article actually details all of the sectors that gained employment before acknowledging the loss for the month in the third paragraph of a 4 paragraph story.

Sounds like there is something akin to the “DC Beltway Non-Reality Bubble” in St louis. No doubt there are similar bubbles all across Missouri. The wingnuts have used the last 27 years to develop an alternative reality for themselves and the people of MO. This “reality”, as we know, rests on wishful thinking, half truths, misleading statements, and pure lies sent out from the neocons and repeated endlessly as the truth by its echo chamber.
The rise of the Progressive media is slowly making everyday reality (truth) available to average people like us. The blogs are becoming a great tool for political exchange and discussion. No longer must we endure the double talk, the confusing newsspeak, and politically slanted opinions we see everyday in the traditional press.
The good news is that once we expose this process to the light it can be seen for what it is and will lose its power to influence. Developing alternative media in MO is a project we should contine to cultivate and support.
