The folks who are opposed to the continuation of the earnings tax on Tuesday’s ballot in Kansas City filed a curious string of amended 24 Hour Expenditure Reports with the Missouri Ethics Commission:

POLITICAL ACTION Date Established: 11/4/2009

COMMITTEE: MECID:C091269

FREEDOM PAC

Electronically Filed Reports

I.D. Report Date Received

4753 24 Hour Expenditure Report-4/5/2011 General 04/02/2011

[emphasis added]

What’s the explanation?

For 4796:

Updating amounts spent in opposition to specific ballot initiative.

For 4798:

Updating direct expenditures.

For 4799:

Updating direct expenditures report.

For 4804:

Correct direct expenditure report.

For 4806:

Update direct expenditure totals.

For 4807:

Correct math error on total direct expenditures.

Okay. Seventh time is the charm?

Let’s take a look at the latest summary:

REPORT SUMMARY

FREEDOM PAC [pdf] 4/2/2011

8. Total All Receipts This Election $476,025.01

14. Total Expenditures This Election $532,812.54

27. Money On Hand at the close of this reporting period $32,167.40

34. Total Indebtedness at the Close of This Reporting Period $116,045.00

[emphasis added]

Uh, oh. Those numbers don’t look good. I wonder if their bankroller’s bankroller(s) will bail them out? We’d ask them, but we can’t figure out who it is.

Let’s take a look at those last minute expenditures:

EXPENDITURES AND CONTRIBUTIONS MADE

FREEDOM PAC [pdf] 4/2/2011

Advantage, Inc.

2300 Clarendon Blvd

Suite 1004

Arlington VA 22201

4/2/2011

Voter ID

Hmm. Low turnout elections are notoriously difficult to poll.

Then, there’s this from the first April 2, 2011 24 Hour Expenditure Report (4753):

CONTRIBUTIONS AND LOANS RECEIVED

FREEDOM PAC [pdf] 4/2/2011

B. NON-ITEMIZED CONTRIBUTIONS RECEIVED

13. TOTAL MONETARY CONTRIBUTIONS RECEIVED FROM PERSONS GIVING $100 OR LESS $25.00

[emphasis added]

It looks kind of lost, especially after all those previous $100,000.00 contributions. By our calculation it’ll take 3,355 more of those $25.00 contributions to make up the total indebtedness. What are the odds of that happening?

Another “24 Hour Expenditure Report” from the folk(s) opposed to the renewal of the Kansas City earnings tax on the April 5th ballot, via the Missouri Ethics Commission:

And?

We’re curious. Is this just wingnut welfare?

If the earnings tax is approved it’ll come up for a vote again in five years thanks to a billionaire and the millions of dollars he spent on Proposition A. Do you think the same consultants will be taking care of any future campaigns?

Wouldn’t it have been easier and cheaper just to cut them a check directly and save everyone else the time and expense? Just asking.

The proponents of the continuation of the earnings tax on the April ballot in Kansas City have a thing or two to say about who’s funding their opposition. Like, who are they?:

Keep KC Alive on their opposition.

Good question.

Who would have the deep pockets to be able to drop $100,000.00 at a pop on a right wingnut inspired campaign to defund public services in Missouri’s largest cities?

Keep KC Alive is also running television commercials along the same theme in the Kansas City television market. We’ll post it when we find an accessible version.

Well, what do you think, television and direct mail?

What, no t-shirts? I suppose we’ll have to ask Rex Sinquefield if he’s got any to spare. Nah, on second thought, I don’t think he’d contribute.

If the renewal of the earnings tax passes everyone better save their signs because they’ll have to do it all over again in five years. They can thank Rex Sinquefield for that, too.

Missouri’s Adam Smith Foundation and the repeal of California’s AB 32 – that $498,000, from where? (August 6, 2010)

Anyway, back to Freedom PAC which is opposing the renewal of the earnings tax on the April 5th ballot in Kansas City:
