irony, Joe Wilson, lying

Another sign of the impending December apocalypse:

Rep. Joe Wilson calls Obama campaign accusations of Romney lying ‘inexcusable’

By Daniel Strauss – 10/15/12 05:43 PM ET

The congressman who accused President Obama of lying during the president’s 2009 address to Congress called the Obama campaign’s recent charge that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan had lied during presidential debates “inexcusable.”

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) was the congressman who in 2009 shouted “you lie” at Obama while the president was delivering a speech to a joint session of Congress. In an interview with Fox News on Monday, Wilson criticized accusations by the Obama campaign that Romney and Ryan had plainly lied during their debates against Obama and Vice President Biden, respectively….

….”But, truly, I think it’s inexcusable for the highest levels, [campaign advisers David] Plouffe, [David] Axelrod – the statements that are being made, and this is being thought out. It’s not spontaneous and it’s just not true….

“…It’s not spontaneous and it’s just not true…”

Uh, didn’t he just accuse someone else of lying? Irony impairment, still a requirement for the republican cult of the victim.

A little over a year ago, from the republican Speaker of the House of Representatives:

Boehner: I got ’98 percent’ of what I wanted in debt deal

By Daniel Strauss – 08/02/11 08:27 AM ET

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he got “98 percent” of what he wanted in the final deal to raise the debt ceiling.

“When you look at this final agreement that we came to with the White House, I got 98 percent of what I wanted. I’m pretty happy,” Boehner said in an interview with CBS News on Monday evening….

….The measure passed the House Monday 269-161, with 174 Republicans backing the bill. Sixty-six Republicans voted against the plan….

[emphasis added]

This evening Representative Vicky Hartzler (r) was the host of an event in Warrensburg on the subject of sequestration in the defense budget. At least one member of Congress, Randy Forbes (r) from Virginia, who was scheduled to appear could not do so due to a “conflict”. Representative Joe Wilson (r) from South Carolina joined Representative Hartzler on the stage and participated with opening remarks and in answering the submitted questions. Yes, that Joe Wilson.

Today, via Twitter:

Rep. Vicky Hartzler ‏@RepHartzler

“I voted no on #sequestration. I believe its wrong to threaten our national security in that way.” 5:30 PM – 18 Sep 12

Rep. Vicky Hartzler ‏@RepHartzler

Honored to have Rep. Joe Wilson speaking. Community leaders also addressing #defense cuts. 4:53 PM – 18 Sep 12

There were a number of “community leaders” who spoke on stage to the two Congresspersons lamenting the negative economic impact on local economies if sequestration cuts in the defense budget were to proceed.

Rep. Vicky Hartzler ‏@RepHartzler

#sequestration slated to raise unemployment by another percent. #MO would lose over 33k jobs. 4:45 PM – 18 Sep 12

Who knew that the defense budget was a stimulus plan for local economies?

The event was held in Hendricks Hall on the campus of the University of Central Missouri. There were approximately 80 people who attended the event, including an Associated Press reporter, the editors of the Sedalia and Warrensburg papers, and two bloggers. The hall can seat approximately 1100 people.

Joe Wilson, missouri

Or maybe it’s something classless.

The view of the Missouri River from a bluff near Rocheport.

Chad Livengood of the Springfield News-Leader posted via Twitter about yesterday’s Wingnutfest 2009 in southwest Missouri:

Joe Wilson says his son described his “You Lie!” outburst at Obama as a “townhall moment.” So that’s the term he now uses to describe it. about 15 hours ago from mobile web

There was plenty of Twitter activity about Dick Morris, too. As if he’s an example of rational, let alone any useful, political discourse?

I responded:

@ChadLivengood “Joe Wilson…outburst at Obama…a ‘townhall moment.'” As if there’s no difference from a joint session of Congress? about 1 hour ago from web in reply to ChadLivengood

A point at the end of one of the land arms in the Lake of the Ozarks.

So, what’s with the images of scenic places in Missouri?

From time to time people in Missouri chose to get married outdoors at a scenic place which may or may not have special meaning for the couple. When couples make that choice they should realize that the weather and other elements inherent in the location, including passersby, are out of their control. Unlike more traditional locations. With luck on their side a couple choosing an outdoor wedding can end up with an idyllic setting on the perfect day to mark the occasion. With luck.

The weather has cooperated for the happy couple. Everyone close to them is there and the setting and weather is near perfect. Except, there’s a high end speedboat going by, near full bore, in the middle of the channel and it’s occupied, as it appears from that distance, by a number of younger males. This at a quiet moment in the ceremony. It’s evident by their behavior that the boat’s occupants know what is going on. The musicians in the background, the people seated in neat rows, the minister, a groom in a tuxedo, and a bride in a white dress standing in front of the seated guests are all obvious clues. And what does one hear, not once or twice, but repeatedly, shouted from the speeding boat and carried by the wind over the water? “@%$# her, I did.” Punctuated by laughter each time. Real class that. Would they do the same in a traditional location in front of their parents or grandparents? In this day and age I’m not so sure. Maybe because we have so many role models with similar mindsets. No class.

You take your chances about class and civility at an open town hall. You shouldn’t have to during a joint session of Congress. And Wingnutfest 2009 in southwest Missouri celebrates people who can’t tell the difference.

Importing nutballs

Joe Wilson, missouri

Would that I could say, with any self-satisfaction, that at least I’m not from Minnesota, the state that hatched Michele Bachmann, or from Iowa, a state that gets to claim both Charles Grassley and Steve King, or from Texas–omigod, where to start? with Bush or DeLay? (who is currently ruining Dancing with the Stars for me).

But we Missouri progressives can’t afford to be smug. Not with Roy Blunt, Cynthia Davis (with guffaw-inducing foibles too multiple to bother linking to any one of them), Tim Jones, and a host of others. And in case home grown isn’t embarrassing enough, we import nutballs: Joe Wilson will be speaking next weekend in Springfield to the Missouri Republican Assembly, which bills itself as the “Republican Wing of the Republican Party”.
