August in Missouri. Hot. Damn hot. Humid. And, in Sedalia, two weeks of the Missouri State Fair.
The Missouri Democratic Party hosts a tent staffed by volunteers from various county parties for the duration of the fair. The tent is staffed from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (depending on the heat).
Today fairgoers stopped by for conversations, others waved and thanked the volunteers for being there. A few passersby scowled, though by appearance they didn’t seem to be billionaires. One libertarian stopped by for conversation to the usual effect.
There are food choices:
“Worry Free.” Heh.
Funnel cake:
At one point a helicopter flew over the fairgrounds. Later, from the parking lot:
The passing crowd was fairly robust early in the morning. By noon, with the increasing heat, it thinned out considerably.
Only “…Mad dogs and Englishmen, go out in the midday sun…”
